Swanfeather
Red and yellow leaves littered the slow moving stream as the cream colored medicine cat watched the water. Her thoughts had been all over the place during this brisk leaf-fall morning. Swanfeather had intended to get a nice drink of water before returning to her duties her upon seeing her reflection she saw how different she was.
Her black muzzle had flecks of grey, it was purely vanity that had her blue eyes studying her reflection. So many moons had come and gone, if grey fur was a testament to anything, Swanfeather had lived many. Her younger self wouldn't be able to recognize her and it wasn't because of the grey in her fur.
Swanfeather was almost an entirely different cat if compared to her younger self. Her younger self was in love, she might never have his kits, but Swanfeather had the love of one cat to fill her heart. Those thoughts and a few others had kept Swanfeather near the stream.
Her thoughts went to Bravebird. He had been a little glimmer of hope in her sad days, a prayer answered. She found him by StarClan's blessing and gladly took him into her life and Clan. She watched this last living connection to Frostfang grow into a strong warrior of her Clan. Her love for Bravebird would often had her questioning her hatred of those born in different clans in her Clan. Bravebird aside from his relationship to Frostfang had no other RainClan blood. Why did she love him as a son when she hated to see the sights of Timberwing or even Gullpaw walking around the Clan. These thoughts troubled the she-cat as she sat alone at the stream.

SETTLE DOWN, IT'LL ALL BE CLEAR Thirst had driven him toward the nearest source of water, which was never far away in their territory, but the sight of a familiar she-cat directed him toward the camp stream. Now a seasoned warrior with several seasons of experience behind him, he was kept busy with the various duties befitting one of his station. Timberwing had sent him on the dawn patrol this morning, and yesterday, he had found himself by the river, catching what he could before the cooler temperatures set in. He hoped that others had come to see him as a dependable and competent member of the clan, for he certainly tried his best to be that. After all, he owed his life to RainClan and the cats who called it home; the least he could do to repay them was put forth his best effort to be as useful as possible.
Confident strides carried him toward the she-cat as fondness burst like fireworks within his chest. If he was indebted to any particular cat, it was RainClan’s medicine cat, though he knew she would never view their relationship that way. Having stepped in when he needed the most support, she was a mother to him, and one with whom he wished he could spend more time. It had been quite a while since he had been able to just sit down and catch up with her – but perhaps he could remedy that now. “Hello Swanfeather,” He purred, voice warm, as he drew close. Tail flicking lightly across her shoulders, the warrior moved to stand beside her, bright blue eyes meeting hers. A smile pulled at the corners of his lips, and never good at hiding his emotions, he let his contentment show.
“I miss talking with you,” Bravebird murmured, a loud purr rumbling in his chest as he turned his gaze toward the water. He found their rippling reflections and idly noted how much larger he seemed next to her. He could remember those first few swimming lessons where, terrified, he had had to be coaxed to even put his paws in the stream. It had seemed so deep, and now he knew how shallow it truly was. Had he truly grown so much? It did not feel like so much time had gone by, and yet, here he sat, a warrior nearing his third leaf-bare as a member of RainClan. “Where has the time gone?” Bravebird | RainClan | Warrior | Home – Phillip Phillips IF YOU GET LOST, YOU CAN ALWAYS BE FOUND Hellion

Swanfeather
His scent brushed against her nose, prompting the blue-eyed she-cat to look towards him. A warm smile crossed her face but a good measure of surprise in her eyes. She hadn't seen much of him and considering her profession, Swanfeather was happy for that. She'd rather see him only at clan meetings then to have him hurt in her den. Bravebird might not be her son by birth but he she still loved him like her son.
Her name was kind in his voice. The purr reminded her of his early moons in her den, hiding from the thunderstorms, but it seemed to her he wasn't afraid of the storms anymore. Swawnfeather took him in his all his adult size, towering well over her. But she couldn't help but still see those little paws toying with a moss ball in camp. "Hello Bravebird " She greeted him.
As he sat beside her she leaned into his shoulder for a moment, reconstructing their bond with a gentle nudge. It was nice to be able to sit beside him, share in this moment of two cats who loved one another as family, Swanfeather missed that. "I also miss talking to you, but I'm also glad I don't see your pelt in one of my sick nests." She replied, following his gaze back to the water. There was such a contrast betwee the two of them. He looked so young and full of life, his heart hadn't yet been burden with heartache. Her own reflection was that of a she-cat who remained in the past and bitter about her situation, a constant inner battle. However, she would not let those demons surface in this moment with her son, it would be awful to fill what little time they got with sad thoughts.
"The time has gone into your training and my mentorship. In hurried greetings and short goodbyes. Time is faster than we can comprehend but also slower to those who are stuck. She stated, looking toward him with a tiny smile. She was one of those cats stuck in time. She felt trapped in the never ending loop of her duties. The only reminder that time has passed is the growth of young kits into new warriors. A welcomed glance at freedom.

SETTLE DOWN, IT'LL ALL BE CLEAR He watched as her reflection leaned toward his, and a moment later, he felt her warm presence nudge his shoulder. Turning his head, he rested his cheek against her fur for a brief moment, breathing in the scent of safety and love. As he continued to sit beside her, he could feel himself relaxing, tension that he had not even known existed slowly draining from his shoulders. He let out another soft purr, the rumbling coming from deep within his chest. She shifted, turning her gaze toward the water, and he followed, moving back ever so slightly so they could watch their reflections together. “Well, I do my best to stay out of them.” He murmured softly. What with the sicknesses that seemed to spread through the clans every leaf-bare, it was a testament to his efforts – and perhaps his youth, as well – that he had not ended up sick at least once.“You know I do enjoy your company, but I’d much rather have it be like this rather than medicine cat and patient.”
There was a familiarity to their actions that spoke of many moons in each other’s company, and he had not realized how much he missed that comfort until now. They communicated just as much with a slight shift to one side or the other as they did with words, and it was a closeness he shared with few other cats. Perhaps if I hide from thunderstorms in someone else’s fur, I’d get to know them just as well, he mused, snorting lightly at the image it brought to his mind.
Swanfeather’s answer to his question was unexpectedly profound, and he turned to look at her, only just noticing – and not without a rude jolt of shock – just how much older she seemed. Flecks of gray stood out against her dark muzzle, and suddenly he was so much larger than she was, both in life and in physical size. When had that happened? He was not the only one changed by the passage of time. Of course he wasn’t – but he had never stopped to consider that, just as he grew up, the medicine cat grew older. An abrupt fear froze his heart, born of the inevitable realization that he had known and yet hadn’t known until now. One day, Swanfeather would no longer be there. He would be alone. The small kit within him cried at the thought, and shifting uncomfortably, he banished it to the darkest corners of his mind.
Deep as they were, her words were also accurate – almost painfully slow. He remembered the excitement of his apprentice days, when he could never wait to learn the next new hunting technique or battle tactic. So much of his time had been spent training, and what hadn’t been filled with that had passed in the company of his friends – Russethawk, in particular – in the apprentice’s den or out in the territory. “Hurried greetings and short goodbyes, indeed.” It was spoken softly, and not without a slight hint of regret for wasted opportunities. As a warrior, he had not been much better, kept busy with the responsibilities expected of every cat in RainClan. “We will have to spend more time together, I think. If the seasons keep passing like this, before we know it, we won’t have much time left.” He paused, that small part of him once more deeply disturbed by the thought. Abruptly, he shifted his ideas. “But how have you been lately, Swanfeather? Ottersplash isn’t giving you too much trouble, I hope.” Bravebird | RainClan | Warrior | Home – Phillip Phillips IF YOU GET LOST, YOU CAN ALWAYS BE FOUND Hellion

Swanfeather
It truly was a comfort to feel him lean into her, reminded the aging she-cat that she wasn't completely alone. Sure she had her faith in StarClan, but that would only get her so far. She had reached the age in life where she knew more that were in the stars than those under them."I think in honesty I would be an awful caregiver for you." She spoke frankly to Bravebird, looking at her paws for a brief moment, feeling oddly vulnerable."I would be too afraid to lose you and maybe neglect some part of the healing." Swanfeather added, nudging his shoulder to remind her of his scent, triggering those memories of his early moons.
After the death of Frostfang she had an honest fear she'd never love anyone else. While the love she had for Bravebird was no where near romantic, it was a welcomed relief to know that her heart wasn't entirely frozen and there was room for warmth. Those memories of Bravebird as a little kit will brighten even the darkest day. True motherhood might not have been in her fate but motherhood by taking in Bravebird was just as rewarding, he made her proud.
He looked at her, their gaze caught for a moment and she saw his fear. Swanfeather had always been a fairly prescriptive cat, it helped with her work. Death wasn't a thing to fear for the greying-black pointed she-cat. If anything death as like a cruel friend, but still a friend. When her time came Swanfeather knew she wouldn't fight death, she'd follow them right into the starry-sky. However, it didn't stop her from noticing Bravebird's reaction. A mother might reassure her son that she would be around for many moons, but Swanfeather had never been one to sugar coat the reality of life. She wouldn't live forever, her work reminded of her that, two apprentices have died while in service to her, not to mention Frostfang. Returning her attention to Bravebird she saw his discomfort in an effort to calm him she flicked her tail across his back, like she used to when he was small and didn't tower over her. "Don't worry about the future too much" She meowed, keeping her voice level to attempts to soothe him.
It was nice for him to listen to what she had to say, take them to heart and let her message wash over him. She wasn't there to spit out nonsense about time for StarClan's sake. While he did conclude they should spend more time together, Swanfeather wasn't about to ask for a promise. She had lived long enough to know that not everything happened the way they wanted to, StarClan had their own will. His words reminded her of earlier thoughts but he didn't seem to want to talk about them and allowed him to change the subject. She smiled at him as he asked about Ottersplash, his interest in her life and work reminded her how important she was to him at least. "All due respect to young Ottersplash, he is an interesting cat to train." She answered with a half smile, it was a challenge to train him because of his nervous behavior but it wasn't likely Bravebird would want to know all those details. "I just need to train him a few more practices before he can become a full medicine cat, thankfully he is done with his warrior training so he will be done sooner." Swanfeather added as an after thought in regards to apprentice.
"I haven't asked, are you training anyone right now?" She asked, feeling a little guilty for not knowing, then again her she had been distracted lately with Ottersplash, not that it was a very valid excuse.
