Wolfclaw had just barely stepped out of the warriors' den when he was confronted by a frantic she-cat. "Wolfclaw! Wolfclaw! You have to help me! My kits! My kits!" Wolfclaw blinked quickly a few times, wiping the lingering traces of sleep from his eyes. "Heatherbreeze, calm down." He kept his voice low and gentle, trying to soothe the frazzled queen.
He looked at her with calm yellow-green eyes. He knew he wouldn't get anything out of her at this state. Wolfclaw gently brushed his tail against her flank, leading the pale grey queen away from the entrance to the warriors' den. "Heatherbreeze, I need you to tell me what's going on."
The she-cat looked up at him with wide green eyes. "It's my kits! Flickerkit, Shadowkit, and Sedgekit! They're gone! I can't find them anywhere! Please, you have to find them!" Wolfclaw glanced up at the sky. The sun had barely touched the sky, and the dawn patrol hadn't even left yet. If three kits were missing this early, there were only two possible causes. The first was that they were stolen in the night, which was all but impossible without someone noticing. The second was that they decided on an early morning expedition outside of camp.
Wolfclaw looked back into Heatherbreeze's eyes. "Don't worry. I'll find them and bring them home. I promise." The silver and black deputy touched his tail to the queen's side and smiled softly at her. Then he walked past her and ducked back into the den. He looked around, eyes grazing over the sleeping forms of his Clanmates. He noticed a few stirring; the cats chosen last night for the dawn patrols were waking. He picked his way through the nests, stopping before a dense black she-cat. Wolfclaw prodded her gently with his paw, and she opened a sleepy green eye. "Pantherstep. Could you lead the dawn patrol this morning? I need to borrow Hailstrike for a bit." His sister stretched and rose, giving her chest fur a few quick licks. "Of course." He smiled at her as she moved past him to exit the den. With that done, he crossed the den.
"Hailstrike. Heatherbreeze just told me that her kits are missing. They might have gone out of camp. Would you help me to look for them?" Wolfclaw looked at the she-cat with calm eyes. He hoped she would join him, understanding the dangers kits faced outside of camp. While he didn't exactly have a clean streak himself, he was old enough know to understand why kits were forbidden from leaving camp. He just hoped that Heatherbreeze's kit were okay.
