Ravenstar was sitting outside her den in the main part of camp, grooming and muttering curses to herself over her long fur and how much time it took to care for it properly when a few kits tumbled by in their play. She paused in her grooming to watch them with some amusement before a thought occurred to her. If she remembered correctly Heatherflower’s kits were about old enough to be apprentices… past due maybe. Her ear twitched and she licked her paw, swiping it over her face a few times before standing and shaking out her fur. She padded leisurely toward the camp entrance and out to the boulder that overhung the entrance. Crouching slightly, she leapt up to land belly deep in the snow that had piled up atop the boulder, and was quite thankful it wasn’t deeper. It seemed her warriors had been clearing snow off the boulder as well as away from the camp entrance… but they hadn’t gotten to it today.
Muttering to herself some more she started digging the snow away and pushing it off her ledge. When she was finally satisfied she sat with a huff, curling her tail around her paws and thinking about Heatherflower’s two kits. She always made sure to check up on the kits as they were growing, to talk to their mothers about them to better get a feel for their personalities so that when they came of age she could pair them up with a mentor that best suited them, that could best mold them into the best warriors for NightClan. She thought of her warriors, the ones currently without apprentices, thought about how they might get along with Harekit and Shadekit. A mentor could forever influence their apprentice and how they led their life as a warrior… it was not a decision Ravenstar ever took lightly.
With a deep relaxed breath, she stood to better project her voice and let out her call, “Let all cats able to walk on their own paws gather beneath the Boulder Ledge for a Clan meeting!” It was her call; she had made it her own. It left out those too sick or injured, and those too young to comprehend, but Ravenstar welcomed the older kits at her Clan meetings, invited them to begin taking part in their Clan beyond the nursery. Stripestar had always said ‘all those who can catch their own prey’ but Ravenstar had never quite agreed with that. For instance many of the elders could no longer catch their own prey, and that call seemed to exclude them even though they came anyway. And the kits… they were not allowed to catch their own prey and were excluded by that call as well. So she had changed it when she became leader. She stood atop the boulder, looking down as the first few cats trickled out to gather below and watching for those cats in particular who she had chosen and who this meeting was being called for.

Harekit woke up to tussling in the den. She mewed softly before she got up and stretched. She looked around before she ran out of the den and looked up. Ravenstar was on the boulder! She walked over to the place where the cats gather beneath and she looked around. Herself and her litter mates were to be made apprentices soon, hopefully now was that time. She hoped that it was truly. The kit started to clean her fur and she looked around once more before she settled in her spot. She waited for her mother and her litter mates. She knew that she was early and fast, but she did not care. Harekit looked up to the boulder to look at Ravenstar when she felt other cats move around her. She shook her pelt and she waited still. -_________________________________________________- Ambercloud mumbled as she was woken up by the cats moving around outside. She looked around and she licked her chest. Ravenstar has called a meeting, maybe it is time for new apprentices? Ambercloud's ears flicked toward the words and she got her body up out of her nest and she wandered outside. She was due any day according to Smokefur. She honestly hoped not. She had not wanted to have them so soon. Well, to her it felt so soon. She sighed though and she walked out of the Queens den then. Ambercloud saw Harekit grooming herself and Ambercloud chuckled. It must be time for her to be apprenticed. She walked to the outside of the group and she sat there to watch the meeting. She would go and get some fresh kill before she walked around the camp. She was still a warrior at heart, so she would always keep her body fit, full of kits or not.

It was a boring process for the tom-kit but he went through the motions after all today was a very important day for the tom.
Today by the grace of Ravenstar and StarClan he would be leaving the title of Shadekit behind him and stepping forward as Shadepaw apprentice in the path of a warrior. Along with his mentor, whom he still didn't know, he would train long and hard to be the warrior his father sired and groomed. He would become Shadepaw, a tom of idealistic beliefs in his Clan and in own personal entitlement to rein supreme within his clan.
Now as Ravenstar's voice boomed around the camp, he stood up without his mother's approval and followed after Harekit, his litter mate and sat beside her, his grey tabby pelt clean and neat, a rare sight of the growing tom. [atrb=border,0,true] Blackwolf 28 moons, Warrior, NightClan |
[/color] Cat: Here // Table by Phoenix
There had yet to be a prouder moment in Blackwolf's life since becoming a warrior, than seeing his two younger siblings become apprentices. The obsidian tom had groomed his pelt until it gleamed, and his yellow and blue eyes were sharp as they swept across the clearing, Blackwolf having been waiting with an eager heart for the meeting to at last get started. As Ravenstar's familiar words rang in his ears, the jet black tom settled himself off to the side, not wanting to sit directly behind Harekit and Shadekit - he wanted all the attention to be focused on them right now. It was their day to shine, not his.
Though he'd been dropping hints at Ravenstar all week to find out whom she had chosen for the honor of being Shadekit and Harekit's new mentors, but the little fluffy white and black leader was keeping mum about the whole ordeal. Though he'd been frustrated earlier, all signs of irritation vanished, and the thick-pelted tom moved to pass behind his younger siblings, murmuring a quick "Congratulations, you two. Make NightClan proud." before moving back to take his original place. He didn't bother sitting with his parents. Why ruin this moment for himself by being around the two of them?
Suppressing a pleased purr, Blackwolf's chin lifted as he looked up to Ravenstar, feeling once again that overwhelming surge of pride. They were finally going to be apprentices!

Boneshadow had been in a deep conversation with his old mentor Dreadscar, whom was reliving the moment when he himself was an apprentice. Boneshadow had been listening intently when Ravenstar called the near entirety of the clan to a meeting. Boneshadow nodded to Dreadscar, and got up to turn around and make his way towards the group of Nightclan cats. He looked around for his apprentice, but didn't see her immediately so then instead focused his attention upon his friend and leader, Ravenstar. Halfmask was there amongst the crowd, coming from the warriors den after a quick midday snooze. She was a little tired for some reason, though she wasn't entirely sure why. That said, she was a bit in a daze when the meeting was called but had made it out of the den none the less. She looked around and chatted with a few of the cats for a moment before focusing her attention on Ravenstar.

Jolted from his sleep by a loud voice voices outsided the den, Clawpaw groggily opened one eye. Light came in throught the entrance to the den, and momentraily blinded the apprentice. Yawning, Clawpaw steped out of the den and into the light. Most of the cats seemed to be gathered around Ravenstar. Seeing this, Clawpaw decided to join the others and find out what was going on. Through listening in on other people conversations, the youg cat established that it was an apprentie ceremony. Finally there were going to be more apprentices joining me! Now the chores can be spread aaround better. I wonder who is joing us? Looking and listening a bit more gave her the answer she was looking for. She saw Harekit grooming herself and guessed that her brother, Shadekit would be becoming an apprentice too. Remembering they were Blackwolf's siblings she became even more happy, deciding she would become friends with them. She then turned her attention back to Ravenstar waiting for the ceremony to begin.

The call, now painfully familiar, roused Ratfur from his comfortable sleep, and it was only obligation that drove him from his warm nest. He could already feel NightClan's general attitude of scorn and dislike toward him - he was, after all, practically worthless, was he not? They would leap on any other mishaps of his with a ferocity reminiscent only of a pack of starving wolves fighting over the last scrap of prey; they would bite down and never let go. The constant balancing act that was his life became tiring after a while, and it was on days like these, where both the weather and his mood were less than pleasant, that the effects of it took the largest toll on him. He found that making sure his performance was flawless required the most effort when his mood was so dark. Especially when the warmth and comfort in the den were far more preferable to getting up and walking into the frigid air, only to hear a few words of minimal importance while freezing to death. But he forced himself to his paws, heaving a heavy mental sigh while doing so, and exitted the den.
When the wall of chilled air hit him, Ratfur seriously debated turning around and re-entering the den. As always, it lasted for a moment at the most before his self-preservation instinct kicked in and his paws grudgingly carried him toward the gathering crowd. The sight of a few excited apprentices - or were they kits? - told him all he needed to know and a slight sneer curled his lip as a shiver racked his wiry frame. Green eyes peered around the crowd, picking out the familiar form of Blackwolf with practiced ease. He does not know how lucky he is for having thick fur, Ratfur hissed grimly in his mind as he padded over to join the tom who looked as though his kits were the ones becoming apprentices. Must be his younger siblings. Though he could not hunt or fight, Ratfur was, if anything, observant. Even then, it was obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes how much Blackwolf practically fawned over his brother and sister - Harekit and Shadekit, if he remembered correctly. At the very least, it was proof that the older tom had a heart, something Ratfur occasionally found himself doubting.
The darkness of that particular thought startled the thin warrior as he settled himself down beside his companion, and he disguised the shiver that travelled through him as a product of the cold. He blamed it on the apprentice ceremony. It was another closely guarded secret, but the tom harbored a strong dislike for apprentice ceremonies, though it had spread to include any ceremony of any kind. All that followed were praises and comments of all the potential that the new apprentices had, how they would become amazing warriors and make NightClan proud. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. Would make NightClan proud. Of course, they would excell in fighting or hunting or both, if they were lucky. All but him. They would all make NightClan proud.

Dogfang joined the crowd as more cats began to emerge from the dens hidden among the stones, slipping through their ranks until he found himself shoulder to shoulder with the usual company, gravitating towards his pack surely as ever. He greeted the two of them in a quiet murmur, just the same. "Afternoon, Blackwolf. Ratfur." He'd never treated Ratfur more harshly than any of the others, though sometimes it was obvious that he walked on eggshells somewhat when it came to other tom, handled him rather differently to how he would have treated any "capable" warrior.
The tortoiseshell tom gave a pleased purr, both at the prospect of two fine young warriors to shore up the ranks of their Clan, and welcoming Blackwolf's siblings specifically to the fold. He was full of hope for the future in that moment, certain the kits would do well, if only they were given the proper guidance. "Did Ravenstar tell you anything interesting?" He kept his voice low, so that only the other two might hear him. He couldn't see the feisty black-and-white she cat spilling her guts about the entire ceremony, but if she had given away anything important, he didn't want to spoil proceedings for the kits.

Ravenstar waited, her white tail tip twitching in the slightest. She was not exactly known as the most patient cat ever, but she tried where her Clan was concerned. She simply did not like wasting time, especially during leaf-bare. Her pale amber gaze flicked briefly over every cat as they each found a spot to settle and chat with those around them while they waited for her to speak once more. Her gaze lingered over the kits who would seen be apprentices, and the two warriors she had chosen to train them.
As a last few cats settled down to listen she stood as a signal that she was about to speak (and also perhaps to add just a little to her lack of height). “Shadekit, Harekit… step forward.” She paused to wait for them to comply, giving them both a nod of encouragement, and when they had, spoke once more, “Harekit, Shadekit, you have both reached six moons and are ready to become apprentices. Harekit, from this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Harepaw.” Her gaze traveled from the newly named Harepaw to the young warrior who would be her mentor, “Halfmask, you are ready for your first apprentice. I expect you to pass on all you know to Harepaw.”
She paused once more so that Halfmask and Harepaw could greet each other properly before continuing, returning her gaze to Harepaw’s waiting brother, “Shadekit, from this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Shadepaw. Dogfang,” she glanced to the warrior sitting beside Blackwolf and Ratfur, “You are also ready for an apprentice and I expect you to pass on all you know to Shadepaw.” She waited for the two to touch noses and nodded, lending her voice to calling out the new apprentices’ names. She enjoyed kits, but during leaf-bare, and this one in particular, she was glad that there were now two fewer helpless mouths to feed and two more useful members of the Clan who could help stock the freshkill pile.

Harekit looked up at Ravenstar as the she-cat started talking. When she was called froward, she stepped forward and kept her gaze on the leader and ignored everything else around her. Harekit from now on, you will be known as Harepaw. Her tail flicked happily and she kept her emotions in. Her fur was plastered to her body, so she knew that she was looking good as she stood there. She turned toward Halfmask and she touched her nose to the she-cats shoulder.
Her tail flicked again and she looked back up at Ravenstar to see if the meeting was over, or if more news was to come. She did not know, but she knew that it was going to end soon. She would start her training and that made the apprentice even happier. She wanted to jump with joy, but she held it in, her tail flicking every now and then to release some of her happiness.
