It seemed as though nothing had changed since her last visit here. The stream was the same as ever and the willow branches continued to hang low, occasionally brushing the ground. The weather was just as pleasant as well, though the signs of the approaching leaf-bare had grown in frequency. Cool winds blew through the branches, rattling them. But the area was fairly sheltered, and among the trees, the effects of those winds were dulled.
Brighteyes rested on the grass by the stream, staring into its watery depths. Whenever she let her mind water, it always travelled back to her conversations with Tideripple and Redpaw. Thoughts of Tideripple filled her with a warm feeling of fondness, however that pleasant feeling had started being shoved back by one of a harsher reality. In a perfect world, she could see Tideripple as flawless, a pitiable tom who was always misjudged by his clan. RainClan were always the antagonists. However, her conversation with Redpaw had thrown her, somewhat roughly, back into reality; she still felt guilty over the way it ended.
Even before they had started talking, Brighteyes had seen that Tideripple was one of the lazier warriors. Yes, she enjoyed relaxing herself, but she tried to make sure that she had done her fair share of work before allowing herself to relax. The she-cat was not so sure that Tideripple did the same, but she did not make a habit of watching the older tom. Brighteyes still stood by what she told Redpaw, to make his own judgements about someone else before labeling them as a good or bad cat. But neither cat had been completely at fault... Redpaw was still an apprentice, and Tideripple could be unmotivated at times. She thought that they had both just started off on the wrong paw. Hopefully things would improve. She snorted; what was she thinking? Of course they would. These were two decent toms who would surely be able to work out their problems. She had nothing to worry about.
Having finally eased her mind, Brighteyes grinned and let out a little laugh. Rolling onto her back, she batted lazily at the air with a paw, watching the branches above her move in the wind. It was a hypnotizing sight and she found her gaze attracted to the motion. The sound of the stream in the background lulled her into a relaxed daze and her eyelids drooped. Before she knew it, Brighteyes was out.

Tideripple
I'm immature but I'll stay this way forever Until the day I die
------------------------------- After his first training session with Redpaw, Tideripple was feeling a little better about being a mentor. He wanted to prove he was worth the job, he knew he could be a good mentor but it was the fact no one seems to believe he could. Even if Tideripple pretended to have a tough skin towards his own clan not liking him for his background, every cruel word and sneer dug under his pelt and made a little hole.
Trying to clear his head, Tideripple wandered to the willow stream, his nose flaring to drink in any scent when the lovely smell of Brighteyes came across his nose. Hurrying he pushed through the little brush around the willow stream to see the beautiful she-cat laying and sunning herself near the stream. The very faint rise and fall of her belly proved she was asleep, a purr came from his mouth as he came closer to her and nuzzled her ear gently, wanting to return to the way they acted about four sunsets ago.
"Hello Brighteyes" Tideripple purred, his nose gently rubbing her ear for attention from the pretty she-cat.

It was a peaceful, dreamless sleep. Making her perfectly comfortable, the warmth from the sun spread throughout her body. But wait-- what was that? Brighteyes's sleep was interrupted rudely by a jolt of awareness as something nudged her side. Now nearing the surface of consciousness, she grappled with the lingering traces of sleep, wanting to dive back down in the pleasant rest. But they slipped like water through her paws, and the she-cat resigned herself to waking.
The voice that spoke right before her eyes opened improved her ill mood by quite a lot. Though their relationship had not been so pleasant last few days, she would take any free moment she could with Tideripple. With all of their duties and the emphasis on hunting in preparation for leaf-bare, StarClan knew that they were few. Yawning, the she-cat opened her eyes and glanced up, to where he rubbed her ear. A smile spread across her face. "Hello, Tideripple," She meowed quietly, a soft purr lingering in her words. Her tail flicked and she shifted slightly to face him better, aiming to lick his nose in response. "You seem happy today. How are you?"

Tideripple
I'm immature but I'll stay this way forever Until the day I die
------------------------------- The beautiful sleepy look that filled Brighteyes' face brought a even larger smile to the tom's face. He heart skipped a bit she just looked so content and part of Tideripple wanted to curl up beside her and sleep for a little while, but the tom knew that if he'd lay down he wouldn't be getting up any time soon.
Between training Redpaw and hunting for leaf-bare, Tideripple hardly had any time for himself. However he felt more accepted in his clan, he was doing more than the minimun like he had been doing for the better part of his warrior hood. It was something about wanting to make Brighteyes proud of him the drove his RainClan warrior better than ever before.
Relaxing he sat closer to Brighteyes, trying to keep himself up right to prevent the possibility of falling asleep near the she-cat. "Well training with Redpaw is going a lot better now, I'm just being busy and suprisily I like it more than I thought." He said happily, looking down at his paws, still a little shy around her.

She could not help but lean slightly toward him as he shifted closer to her, feeling heat radiating from his body. He seemed to have completely relaxed, his muscles loose and his breathing steady. When he spoke, Tideripple's voice denoted his good mood, light and happy. Brighteyes purred in response, the sound coming from deep in her throat. Redpaw had come to her with worries about being Tideripple's apprentice, and she had drilled it into him to give his mentor a second chance. The young tom had seemed reluctant to do so, but if her friend's mood was anything to go by, it sounded like the apprentice had taken her advice. And it turned out that she had been correct.
"I'm glad that you and Redpaw are getting along together," She replied pleasantly. "One of the most important bonds of clan life is that between mentor and apprentice, I think. Both of you will benefit from it." Her tail flicked lightly behind her, and she shifted to face him better. Contentment was written all over her face. "A busy warrior is a happy warrior, isn't that what they say? Especially with leaf-bare in the near future, it's rare to find time to ourselves. Which is why we should enjoy this time so much." Though she would not mention it to the tom, Brighteyes was glad that he was taking a more active role in clan life. It was the way to become more accepted, by proving his worth, and the best way to do that was train Redpaw and complete his duties well.

Tideripple listened to her kindly, nodding at the correct times and giving her a warm smile at others. He felt warm, the kind of feeling one would get when being praised by a cat they cared about. Wait, did Tideripple just admit he cared about Brighteyes? Well of course he did after all she is his clan mate, but the feeling some how was stronger, deeper in some ways. Glancing to the stream he thought back to the day when he got her a stone, the pretty blue one that matched her eyes. It seems he hadn't been able to get her anymore presents, with training Redpaw and all. Looking down at the ground he went to nuzzle her gently, careful not to make her full uncomfortable. "I'm sorry I haven't been bringing you presents." He said softly, keeping his voice a gentle tone, almost like a lover's whispers. He moved back a little, to lay beside the she-cat, a protective but respectful place. He didn't want to overwhelm the she-cat, after all she might not even like him as much as he does, he felt it was best to keep his distance until she came forward, Tideripple was feeling shy to an almost weakness. His apology was completely unneccessary and unwanted, though she appreciated the thought. It was softly spoken, and worry flitted through Brighteyes. Did he think that she enjoyed his company purely because he gave her gifts? The she-cat loved the tom's company because it was him; the gifts were an added bonus, and she planned on keeping them just that. Unneccesary but appreciated. Leaning forward with the intent of licking his paw comfortingly, she kept her blue eyes on his as she spoke lightly, "Don't worry about that, silly Tideripple." A grin formed on her lips. "I don't hang around with you because you give me presents. You know that, right? I like you for who you are."
And she did, Brighteyes realized with a jolt that wasn't completely unpleasant or surprising. The fondness that she felt for him was near the fondness she felt for her former mentor, Cinderfoot, only different. Much different. With Cinderfoot, their bond was formed on mutual understanding of a devastating event in their lives. It was completely different with Tideripple. She could not quite explain it yet - would she ever be able to? - but the tom had begun to play an important role in her life. Brighteyes looked forward to these personal meetings with just the two of them, where they could just relax and talk. She had not realized just how much she missed the chances to do that, as her training sessions had been just as pleasant.
"Besides," Brighteyes added cheekily, "if anyone owes anyone a little gift, it would be me. After all, you gave me that beautiful pebble the last time, correct?"

He purred loud, the sound vibrating through his thin frame as he looked at her, nuzzling her again, drinking in her scent. It wasn't heard to tell one clan mate from another, everyone had their own scent, but how Tideripple sat so close to her and their scents mixed, Tideripple treasured that smell. His ears flickered as she talked about owing him a present. He smiled and laughed that ended in a purr, but he thought of one present she could give him. "You can give me a smile everyday." Tideripple said another bout of shyness but this time he kept looking at Brighteyes, her inviting blue eyes warming him. "That way we can be even" Tideripple added. After a moment of silence Tideripple rose up a little. "I have a question for you Brighteyes and um I'm not sure how to ask it" Tideripple rose up to his paws and started to pacing just half a tail length from Brighteyes, his eyes on the ground. "I thought that when I asked this question I wouldn't be so nervous, but I need to just spit it out right?" He spoke aloud, before stopping and looking at Brighteyes head on. "Willyoubemymate" Tideripple blurted it out in a rush, and hardly paused to clearly space out his words. He knew it was rush but he was just so flustered he wasn't even sure he could say it again, so there he stood awkward and embarrassed not to mention gawking at Brighteyes by accident. [/style]

How to explain what she felt? She struggled to find the answer. Was there a word that summed up all of the growing affection, the deep fondness and appreciation she felt, the genuine happiness that caused her heart to feel like it was going to burst? Did it include the way his green eyes lit up every time he smiled, the way he moved with the boundless energy usually associated with kits, the way his gray tabby fur shone in the sun? And it could not forget how little moments of insecurity and shyness that endeared him to her, the constant purring and laugther that left her mouth whenever she was around him, the playful banter.
A smile broke out across her face, at his words. "It's a deal," She purred, deep and low in her chest, as she climbed to her paws, tail flicking. She wanted to do something, some how show him just how much she enjoyed his company and presense. "I'll give you a smile - more than one - everyday, and we'll be more than even." And then he paused, looking as if he was gathering his courage for something. He began in that hesitant, shy way that was his alone, starting to pace in front of her. With infinite patience, she waited, trusting that he would say whatever he wanted to with time. She did not have to wait long, for he turned and pinned her with an intense look in those green eyes. "Willyoubemymate?"
They called it love, she realized, that sensation, and the shortness and simplicity of the word struck her as odd for the first time in her life. It felt so inadequate, far from the length and complexity that she thought it deserved. How could a single word, that short, illustrate the great shift that had happened in her life, the knowledge that a life without his company would break her heart?
And she acknowledged it for the first time, embracing that fact. I love Tideripple.
A calm filled her, soothing the dance of emotions that had taken over her mind. Without any conscious guidance from her mind, her body rose of its own accord and walked over to him. The purr that left her grinning maw was deep and long, full of all the emotion that she could not put into words. "Of course," She murmured softly in his ear, leaning in close. "Of course, Tideripple. There is no other cat who could possibly win over my heart as much as you have." Confidence filled her, accompanied by that eerie calm. "It's my turn to ask now." It helped that she already knew the answer - or at least she hoped that she did. "Will you be my mate?"

She accepted his request and now it was his turn to reply, well if she had to ask, he felt flustered but the good kind. "I say yes today, tomorrow if you ask I'll say yes again. Brighteyes I will always say yes to you" He purred, nuzzling the she-cat he was not able to call his mate. His laid beside her now, their fur touching as he drank in their mixed scent. He was just so happy he was only afraid of his heart bursting with joy. Closing his eyes he rested his head on her shoulder, a purr rumbling his entire body. "Thank you Brighteyes" He purred fondly, pulling back to lick her forehead, slowly and lovely a warm and happiness filled smile on his face. [/style]
