Name: Sootpaw
Age: 6 moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: NightClan
Rank: Apprentice
Picture:
Description: Sootpaw isn’t the largest among her littermates, especially compared to Wolfkit, but then neither is she the smallest, which is a spot of pride. She wishes she were bigger- after all, size certainly matters in most situations, but it is what it is and she can’t make herself grow more than she’s meant to. Unfortunately. And hey, she can turn her smaller size to her advantage, or so her mentor keeps telling her. Lean but not really skinny, Sootpaw sports a certain legginess, small dainty paws, short rounded ears and a long, expressive tail.
But it’s her fur that catches the eye. The base seems to be black, but in its entirety it is a mottled, marbled white, the pale color spotting and patching from head to tail, and in some places it mixes so heavily that it appears gray. It’s short over most of her body, growing out in a medium-length ruff around her neck and grows longer on her tail, feathering out to a wispy tip.
Description Summary: Small, lean she-cat with thick marbled fur and green eyes
Personality: Sootpaw is a relentless force of nature. She will never say no to a challenge, she will never back down in the face of opposition, she will never willingly give up. She can’t- not with all of her Clan’s and her parents’ expectations on her shoulders. She has to measure up to them every day, has to be the ideal daughter and a model apprentice; she can’t be anything less. Highly competitive even with her siblings, she strives every day to learn something new, or to perfect a skill already taught.
Sootpaw does not make friends. Attachment is weakness, ties that can be used against her in dire situations. To the Clan as a whole she’s loyal, but she gives nothing of herself to any cat. She views it as pointless, unnecessary, and altogether tedious. She doesn’t care to engage in gossip among the apprentices when there are far more important things an apprentice can do to pass the time.
She looks up to Darkstar and Frostjaw both, models herself after them, and probably tries too hard to get them to notice how she's excelling at her training. She knows she's good, but that's not enough; they have to know she's good too.
Training itself comes easy to her. She picks up what she's taught with what seems like natural ability, committing battle moves to memory and going through them often to keep them fresh and to train her body to move through them on instinct. She's far from modest about it either, having no trouble taunting her litter mates or other apprentices and making it clear that they'll never be as good as she is, so why keep trying?
As for the other Clans, Sootpaw tends to pretend they simply don't exist. Apart from border patrols, she distances herself from them. She has only just begun to learn about them, but from what she knows and what she's been told, they're just not important enough to waste thought on. She takes after her parents' ideas on the matter: NightClan is best, so why give the rest her precious attention?
Loud and outspoken, Sootpaw has every intention of making her voice heard among her Clanmates despite her rank. If she's a member of the Clan, if she hunts and fights and looks after them as she's supposed to, then why not put in her thoughts when asked?
History: Sootpaw was born in a litter of four, split evenly between two males and two females, to the leader of NightClan, Darkstar, and the warrior Frostjaw. Darkstar lost a life as a result, but she took the time needed to care for the kits in their first moon to recover, and then she returned to her role as leader of NightClan. The kits were taken in by Skybringer and raised by her instead for the rest of their kithood, though Darkstar and Frostjaw both kept an eye on them as they grew.
Sootpaw was trouble from the start, pushing around whichever litter mate was in the way of accomplishing her goals and doing it without remorse. Nobody was going to hold her back! She gave Skybringer the most trouble, frequently trying to sneak out after being told not to, practicing the skills she saw the warriors practicing even on clumsy paws.
Each day passed was another day closer to her apprentice ceremony, and she spent them busily, roughhousing with her siblings or slinking around groups of warriors to listen to them talk about their days, the ever-present eagerness to be able to join them nagging at her mind.
Leaving the nursery behind was just as thrilling as she'd expected, and she has every intention of making the most of her apprenticeship while it lasts.
