Leaf-fall 25, 7
The air is cold. In the distance grey clouds drift across the sky and the wind brings chills on the breeze, but the moon remains visible in the dark night sky.
"Hold your claws and your tongues around NightClan," warned Lionstar, the full moon a great gleaming eye overhead. "Tonight is for remembrance. You may grieve with StoneClan if you so choose; whatever you do, hold your peace." With that final announcement, Lionstar led the Clan of woodland cats into StarClan's Claws. The silvery light from above illuminated the scars along his pelt from where Demon's claws had scoured him two seasons past. He makes the leap from the earthen floor to the top of the great rock with ease, though the movement is a hitch slower than it once was.
TreeClan is the first to arrive, and the great rock the leaders perch on feels cold and empty. It will feel colder and emptier still, with this new change in leadership among their stone-dwelling neighbors.
Attending with him: Pumafang, Falconstorm, Robinpaw, Glacierpaw, Rocktail, Leopardheart, Redbird, Berrythorn (NPC), Sunwind (NPC), Briarstripe (NPC)
The full moon signaled that it was time for another gathering and Redstar led the way with his clan following close behind. Owlmind marched alongside LightningClan's leader with her three spawn in tow. It was to be their first gathering as young apprentices and Redstar couldn't have been more proud. This pride was layered with a feeling of accomplishment as their time as apprentices had remained uneventful amid all the turbulence that some of the other clans were undoubtedly facing. Soon they would see just how their neighbors were faring this season. Redstar confidently led LightningClan into the gathering and took his place alongside Lionstar, before patiently waiting for the gathering to begin.
Attending with him: Owlmind, Kindleflare, Tigereye, Goosepaw, Goldenpaw, Greenpaw, Crowface, Littleheart, Mudpelt (NPC), Falconblaze (NPC), Palescreech (NPC)
Unhurried, the party of Tribe cats enter the clearing. This is something they are slowly getting used to, and the reaction at their appearance is no more startling than the arrival of the other Clans. Skyteller looks pleased at the sight of RainClan and gives a courteous nod to each of the leaders before leaping onto the rock and settling there comfortably.
Attending with him: Cave-guards Dark Clouds of Gathering Storm (NPC), Rose with Crimson Petals, Strut of Ring-Necked Rooster, Song of Shadowed Stream (NPC); Prey-hunters Moth that Flutters in Moonlight (NPC), Fallen Moon in Black Sky, Butterfly that Floats on Breeze, Full Moon on Still Water. Moonfeather of TreeClan is with them.
It is immediately apparent that things in StoneClan are not well; the air of grief over Hawkstar and Frozenrain’s recent passing hangs over the group. Smokestar and Valiantstride walk together at the head of the party. Smokestar hesitates for a fraction of a second at the base of the rock, her usual place, before springing to the top. She gives each leader a short nod but says nothing; her turn to speak will come.
Attending with her: Valiantstride, Sandblaze, Ebonyheart, Silverglade, Kestrelclaw, Honeynose, Cicadasong, Goldenpaw, Shadowdance (NPC), Foxtrot (NPC), Rowanstripe (NPC)
RainClan has regained its strength, and after the calculated decision to not attend the last gathering, have returned. Silverstar stands at the front, head held high and leading with confidence. A new face attends at his side, and new changes are on the breeze for RainClan. Silverstar heads to his place as soon as they arrive, anxious only on the inside with the need to show that they have returned stronger from the flood that chased them from their home.
Attending with him: Emberlight, Dewfrost (NPC), Lotuswhisker, Silentpaw, Rosepaw, Sunpaw, Littlepaw, Stormfeather (NPC), Squirrelfur (NPC), and Cedarstripe (NPC)
Darkstar was already growing weary of leading NightClan to gatherings, though she was at least vaguely curious this time as to whether RainClan would show up or not. There could be something gained from gatherings but most of them seemed rather pointless in the end, a complete waste of a good night. It was her duty to represent her Clan, however, and so she went. Leading her cats between two of the rock spires making up StarClan’s Claws, she noted that NightClan was the last to arrive, her ear flicking dismissively. Good, she wouldn’t have to wait long for it to begin then.
With a nod to Rainfur she made for the leader’s perch and leapt up, settling herself near the edge and wrapping her tail around her paws, noting RainClan’s presence. It seemed they had recovered from the flood. Her fiery gaze rests on Smokestar for a few heartbeats, surprised to see the she-cat in Hawkstar’s place. Her ears prick with some amount of interest as she surveys the cats below, finally seeing the way the StoneClan cats seem rather dejected. Hawkstar was dead then. Perhaps this gathering wouldn’t turn out to be completely useless.
Attending with her: Rainfur, Smokefur, Shadowchaser, Pinewhisker, Squirrelheart, Coalmask, Roachpaw, Breezepaw, Thornscar (NPC), Coyoteheart (NPC), Sablefoot (NPC)

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars Despite knowing in advance that StoneClan's figurehead had fallen, Lionstar looked upon Smokestorm with a jarring sensation of discomfort, as if he had walked into a strange dream. She was Smokestar now, and the space she took upon the rock felt like a harelength compared to Hawkstar's mountainous presence. He made a slow study of each of the faces around him, then down to the deputies below. Valiantstride and Emberlight. Two toms he knew very little of, particularly the RainClan tom.
You are the oldest among them. The last of an era.
StarClan, he felt his age just then. The moons lightened his muzzle, flecks of silver where there had once been gold. He still walked with strength and purpose, still carried himself as a king, a leader of the forest, but he could not stop time.
Drowning in his own sentimental thoughts, Lionstar brought himself crashing back to reality, willing his paws forward as he chose to speak first of the gathered groups. A sea of eyes and a forest of pelts gazed back at him from the shadows of the leaders' rock. "Leaf-fall has always been a time of change. There is no change greater than the loss of someone respected, admired, and loved by all." Lionstar dipped his head to Smokestar. "It is with a heavy heart that I do not see Hawkstar standing among us, as he has for so many moons. TreeClan grieves with StoneClan for your losses, and we welcome Smokestar as StoneClan's new guardian."
He held back from saying more. Apart from the eulogy he'd delivered to his own Clan in the wake of Hawkstar's death, Lionstar had no right to speak on behalf of StoneClan. Smokestar would have her chance to address the entire valley, and her words would carry far more weight than his ever could on this matter. With a mild sweep of his tail, Lionstar spoke somewhat mechanically of TreeClan's latest news. "Our hunting grounds continue to sustain us, and we have become several warriors stronger after the last gathering."
Golden eyes filled with warmth, and he spoke with pride at this next announcement. "Feathercloud has welcomed a litter of kits, and there are a pawful of new apprentices joining us tonight. No matter what troubles befall us, new growth and deep roots never fail to carry us through each season."
As he removed himself from the center of the leaders' rock, retreating to sit beside Silverstar and Smokestar, he could not stop his mind from fixating on the upcoming war with NightClan. This would be the last peaceful moment between their two Clans for a very long time; he did not look at Darkstorm. Seeing her here told him nothing, just that she was following along with custom. Her presence didn't matter. He was not here to scold her or question her leadership.
He would have his moment to speak with her through claws and fangs before too long. I've been building up all these kingdoms for so long It's good to be king 105 Moons || TreeClan || 488 Words @poptart TaxxTaxxJustice@zen ( BlooRey DVD for mention of your boy <3)

Redstar didn't have to wait long before the rest of the clans and the tribe arrived. The attendees from StoneClan intrigued Redstar the most, Hawkstar was not among them, and barring some sort of illness it was possible the distinguished tom had breathed his last. The latter theory was proven true not long after Lionstar took center stage and expressed his condolences at StoneClan's loss, before launching into what Redstar would consider a typical gathering report. Soon enough it was Redstar's turn, and perhaps it would have made more sense for Smokestar to say her piece next, however he was already in prime position and seized the opportunity to deliver another uneventful report. "LightningClan also wishes to welcome you Smokestar, Hawkstar's presence will be missed." It wasn't much, however Redstar didn't wish to inflate the importance of their relationship. It was only recently he had begun to cultivate it after all. "LightningClan is also thriving this Leaf-fall and we have welcomed several new warriors into our ranks. Lightningstripe, Thistletongue, Windspirit and Sleetnose. We also have three new apprentices who are joining us tonight, Greenpaw, Goldenpaw and Goosepaw." Redstar waited for any congratulations that may be offered to the young cats and let the large list of names sink into the minds of those gathered below. LightningClan truly was thriving, and with his piece spoken Redstar surrendered his position so another could speak. Taxx Taxx Justice @zen Fawn

Teller of the Mountain Sky Nothing could have ever prepared Skyteller for the change in leadership within StoneClan. He had arrived with his cats, padded to the leaders' rock and sprang up, waiting for the rest to appear so the meeting had begun. But it hadn't been the familiar form of Hawkstar guiding his own party into the clearing- it had been the deputy, Smokestorm, and the pit in his stomach had only grown at the quiet, subdued attitude of the group.
He's died. The Clan would have lost a great leader. He hoped they were faring well enough- and that the seasons would continue to favor them as they recovered from the loss.
NightClan was the last to appear, and as Darkstar had settled in her place, Lionstar had stepped forward to begin. The clearing was quiet as he spoke, giving his best to the departed cat and the Clan who would be grieving him. He gave his news about his Clan, and then stepped back for Redstar, whose sentiment was shorter.
When the ginger tom had stepped back, Skyteller took his place. "The Tribe mourns Hawkstar's death as well. He was a wise leader and his presence will be missed." He dipped his head to Smokestorm- Smokestar?- and continued. "We greet you as StoneClan's new leader and hope our previous alliance still stands." He noticed her eyes flash, as if she'd forgotten about it- but she said nothing and Skyteller glanced away to continue. "The Tribe will not be attending the Time of Frozen Water Gathering. Storms and deep snow make travel dangerous, and I cannot risk my cats for the sake of this meeting. I hope the other leaders will understand, and if so I will be happy to come again during the Time of Freed Water." Tribe of Forgotten Waters where there's smoke, there's fire Smokestar padded into StarClan's Claws with a large cat at her shoulder; that in itself wasn't strange, she was used to it. Except this time, she was leading, the bigger cat, new deputy Valiantstride, following behind her, his golden-and-black spotted-coat so unlike Hawkstar's that she had to keep glancing over her shoulder. All of this just felt... weird. There was pride under the sadness and strangeness of it, but it was barely a flicker beneath everything else.
Lionstar was the first to speak, and irritation was quick to build as three of the other leaders piped their sorrows before she'd had a chance to give the account herself. They could have let her start- not necessarily out of the need to be first, but to have been able to give her news on Hawkstar and Frozenrain's passing before Lionstar did. At least he had the decency not to tell them Palewing and Beetlejaw had given him the news the morning it had been discovered; she didn't want any other Clan thinking she favored TreeClan. Hawkstar and Lionstar might have been comrades, but with Hawkstar's passing, those days were over.
Redstar and the Tribe's leader- Healer, whatever he called himself- both spoke before she could finally get a word in, and then she was standing at the edge of the rock, looking down over the cats mingled below her, countless eyes shining in the moonlight- all on her. Quickly, she pulled in a breath to begin. "As you've heard and seen, Hawkstar is not here. Two dawns ago, StoneClan found him and Frozenrain in their den. They had passed in their sleep." She couldn't quite help the waver in her voice as she recalled the moment, but she swept on. "StoneClan mourns them both, but they are free, running with our ancestors, and their memories will forever be honored. I have gone to the Moon Tree to receive my lives and my name, and I have chosen Valiantstride as StoneClan's new deputy."
She waited for the clearing to quiet after the acknowledging calls before going on. "No new apprentices have been named, but our nursery is full and there will be new faces among our apprentices next Gathering. Lastly, our apprentice medicine cat has earned her name: Ebonyheart." With nothing else to say, Smokestar stepped back, green eyes turning toward Silverstar and Darkstar, waiting for them to say their piece so they could end this meeting and return to their camp. Silverstar listened to each leader attentively, realizing suddenly that the leadership had almost entirely changed now. The oldest were either retired or passed, and younger cats had taken their place. It wasn't so long ago that he had been the youngest of the leaders, and now he was just one of many in their prime. Only Lionstar remained, and he wondered how long it would be before he would no longer see the golden tom at the head of TreeClan's attending party. He pushed the thought aside as he listened to the news and dropped his head at the words from the newly named Smokestar. "This is the first RainClan has heard of this. StarClan has called him home after all this time, but many both within and without his clan will remember him. And in that may he and the mate who followed him be remembered." He offered a slight smile to the new leader. "I wish you the best." He remembered when he'd been new to the stones, how terrified he'd been. Not all new leaders were so nervous, but he wanted to remain genial. "RainClan has recovered from the flooding of our camp, and we come back stronger for the losses we faced. Many lives were called back to StarClan, and others have proven themselves true warriors of RainClan. Three apprentices join the ranks of our warriors; Owlfrost, Waverunner and Waspstrike. Our nursery has many kits in it this season, and soon we'll have more apprentices to train. Finally, RainClan's deputy Lilygleam has chosen to step down. Emberlight has been chosen as my new deputy." That was all he had to report and backed off to allow the next leader to speak. @zeneka Fawn@poptart

Darkstar I don't got time to look over my shoulder Lionstar was the first to step forth to speak and Darkstar couldn’t help but wonder just what he meant by StoneClan’s losses. Hawkstar was gone, clearly, but who else was he referring to? And how did the TreeClan leader know when TreeClan and StoneClan did not even share a border for news to pass so easily between them. It could have passed from LightningClan, she supposed, but she’d never heard of cats across Clans gossiping about their neighbors at the border. Such friendliness was rather reserved for gatherings. Then again, maybe it was only NightClan that kept to themselves. For all she knew the other Clans spoke freely with one another even when the full moon did not demand a truce.
Her fiery gaze shifted briefly to Smokestar. The she-cat was much smaller than her predecessor, that was for sure, but that meant very little. If nothing else, she felt a slight satisfaction that another she-cat sat among the group of leaders atop their boulder perch. Then Lionstar was speaking again, announcing new kits, apprentices, and warriors for TreeClan. The tip of her tail twitched around her paws as the golden tom ended his piece and stepped back. Redstar’s report was short and to the point, which she appreciated. Four new warriors and three new apprentices were named. When Skyteller took his place, Darkstar’s ears twitched in annoyance.
Though she had agreed to the alliance, she still hardly approved of their presence here, or Skyteller standing among the leaders of all the Clans as though he were an equal. No matter how many gatherings the Tribe attended, she doubted that her feelings about it would ever change, but every other leader seemed to have accepted him and it certainly wasn’t worth breaking the truce over, or offending the tom and breaking the alliance, putting NightClan at a possible future disadvantage. She blinked uncomprehendingly at the tom as he spoke of the ‘time of frozen water’, but quickly realized he was speaking of the leaf-bare gathering. The fur along her spine rippled with irritation, not that the Tribe would apparently not be attending, but at their strange, unfamiliar terms for things.
She was far more interested when Smokestar stepped forward to speak. Frozenrain was the other loss Lionstar had spoken of. Hawkstar’s mate. She glanced down at the tom Smokestar had selected as her deputy. She knew little of him. StoneClan had never much concerned her. There was very little chance the two of them would ever meet in battle some day and that was all that really mattered to her at gatherings, sizing up prospective enemies. Her gaze shifted to the medicine cats when Ebonyheart’s new name was announced, and then Smokestar had finished and Silverstar took her place. After RainClan’s absence last gathering, she was vaguely interested to hear what he had to say. Not to mention that Lilygleam was not among the deputies. He addressed Smokestar with condolences as all the others had, wishing her well, before he spoke of his own Clan. Lilygleam had stepped down? Here she had been expecting to hear that the she-cat had been lost to the flooding.
At last there was no cat left to speak but her and she stepped to the edge of the boulder. One ear twitched in the direction of Smokestar as she made the decision not to speak on Hawkstar’s death. It seemed to Darkstar that the new leader and her Clan had been offered more than enough sympathy already and she wasn’t here to speak pretty words to make cats from other Clans feel better about their losses. As the last to speak, she could finish quickly and return to camp all the sooner, hopefully before the entire night was wasted. “NightClan has recovered well from the flooding of greenleaf. We have welcomed two new warriors to our ranks, Pythonshade and Pigeonheart, and four new apprentices. Hollowpaw and Bramblepaw, as well as Breezepaw and Roachpaw, who are here tonight,” there was a hint of affectionate pride in her tone as she spoke the name of her kin before the gathering, her gaze seeking both young cats that she had selected to attend tonight. With that she stepped back, giving Smokestar a quick nod of acknowledgement as she did. Hopefully no one else would have any comments on anything said tonight and that would be the end of it. Leave 'em all behind I'm about to take over
