Rocktail pulled herself to her paws, the warmth of sleep making her golden eyes heavy and her movements cumbersome. She was having a wonderful dream! TreeClan's frozen, dead territory was full of prey, and she had caught more of it than any warrior, watching her clanmates fill their bellies freely. Her rumbling stomach is what pulled her back to reality: so often her and her clanmates went days without substantial food. The grey and white she-cat peeked outside, noticing it to be already quite dark. Rocktail's heart skipped, her nest and dreams an afterthought.
She was supposed to be on guard duty!
Rocktail slipped outside, noticing cats heading to their nests for the night. The fresh kill pile was empty, like usual in leafbare. That's what I get for sleeping in. She accused herself, though her growling stomach made the grey and white warrior mildly downtrodden.
Her lowered spirits were quite temporary though, as always.
She had exited camp, leaving her worries behind her: there was only one mission tonight, and that was to guard the camp. Rocktail sat confidently outside for a few minutes, grateful that the wind had finally subsided. Her eyes scoured the territory in front of her, though as she looked to her left, amber eyes flashed. Rocktail leaped backwards, hackles raised, though eventually she made out the familiar face and scent of Nightfury. She grew hot with embarrassment, stuttering as she sparked conversation. "O-oh, uh, o-oh wow...I didn't know..." Rocktail took control of herself, composure returning quickly, though her heart still pounded. "I didn't know you were on duty tonight too." She piped up honestly, grooming nervously behind her ears.
I can't believe that just happened. Rocktail thought guiltily to herself.
