WARRIOR | TREECLAN | 19 MOONS
Rocktail had recently received her first apprentice, an eager, helpful cat by the name of Dawnpaw. They had done quite well together so far, and even with as friendly and bubbly as Rocktail was, they still managed to get a lot done in a day. They were by no means the most skilled mentor-apprentice pairing, though that seemed all well for the grey and white warrior: they didn't need to be the best, they just needed to contribute their fair share, and that was exactly what Rocktail intended for them to do. She was a supportive teacher, though she was one with a short fuse, and no matter how much she strove for patience and composure, she had let slip her irritation a few times.
A good teacher, though not the best.
Rocktail was average, relatively unimpressive altogether, though she did possess a striking golden gaze. She wasn't exemplary in any way, though she still managed to hold her own through thick and thin. She hid behind a veil of self-deprecating humor, and ultimately, the recognized that her skills didn't lie in the physical aspect of life. She constantly drove herself to bring others together, a natural mediator, and always willing to fill a position of need whatever it may be. She didn't quite know why Lionstar chose her to mentor Dawnpaw above some of the other younger warriors who were far more skilled than she, though Rocktail was grateful and excited.
She loved working with the youth. She loved kits, and there was no greater feeling to her than aiding them in their journey from the warmth of the nursery to their very own nest in the warrior's den.
Rocktail remembered what it felt like to finally finish her apprenticeship, and she wanted to help every cat every step of the way. Though now she had Dawnpaw, and she was going to put her heart and soul into making sure the silver she-cat became every bit of what she wanted to be. Rocktail was vested into the young cat, and the past moon they had done quite well for themselves. She felt as though her apprentice was learning at a good pace, and although she was smaller than the average TreeClan cat, she had the power of underestimation and speed. Unfortunately, today's lesson was going to require balanced strength and no small amount of determination.
This is the best thing that's ever happened to me! Rocktail thought happily, pausing at the Great Maple. The wind was inconsistent, though that was what the grey and white warrior wanted: the bursts would offer Dawnpaw constant pressure and release of pressure, forcing her to adjust her outlay of effort accordingly. No other mentor-apprentice pair was climbing today, probably in fear of the wind, though Rocktail was very confident that the silver she-cat was in-tune with her self enough to know her limits. This would be a test of self-control more than anything, though Rocktail had a feeling that the day would turn out to be a big success: she would do everything in her power to make sure the she-cat was safe. The warrior turned to her student, a sparkle of liveliness lighting up her golden eyes as she spoke, voice light and kind.
"Today, we're going to work on your climbing skills."
