Twisting in her nest, Willowbreeze sat up in a huff. Her bed was uncomfortable, to say the least. Rising up from her restless slumber Willowbreeze decided that it was a good time as any to get up and start her day. Giving her face a quick wash the pale tabby left the warrior's den without bothering to check on her sister. Lotuswhisker would most likely be curled beside Gullswoop, warm together.

Pushing away the pang of jealousy that seemed to poke her chest whenever she thought of sister's family. They were technically also her own but Willowbreeze struggled with connecting with her nieces and nephew. It wasn't that she lacked love for them, she simply wanted her own little brood to take care of. Raise them up alongside their cousins. Selfish in her thinking, Willowbreeze tried to push her thoughts away by leaving camp and sprinting away.

She let her paws carry her toward the willow stream and without slowing her stride, the she-cat sprang onto the trunk of the tree and quickly found her way onto the lazy, hanging branches. It had been awhile since she climbed the willow tree, this place was her sanctuary. Being able to dwell within it was like finding all the peace she could ever need.

Letting her claws sink into the bark she clung to it as her eyes drifted shut. She was too awake to fall back to sleep but that didn't stop her from simply listening to embracing the safety of the willow tree.

He really shouldn't be sneaking off when no one needed his attention, but he did need moments for himself sometimes. Being leader too so much from him, and the time to think was always helpful. There was no more flirting for him, not right now. He wouldn't mind so much, but he was noticing that more of the she-cats that were amiable towards him were looking to be the leader's mate, not just another one of his flings. He knew he didn't want to settle down, and even if he did he would want it to be with a cat that cared for him despite his leadership, not due to it.

Silverstar sighed and trotted along with no particular destination in mind. So it surprised him when he stumbled across Willowbreeze at the stream. She seemed to be tranquil, high in the branches of the tree she was named for. He didn't want to disturb her, but he did want to talk to her. "Willowbreeze? I'm sorry to bother you, I just don't want to startle you if you were to notice me unexpectedly." And risk her falling out of the tree. While RainClan cats could climb trees, it wasn't a skill they honed and falling, even over the stream was a real concern.

A pleasent breeze had ruffled the leaves of the willow, prompting the she-cat to open her eyes. Pale compared to her sisster's bright eyes, she gazed out to the territory. She could go fishing, make her day productive but even as she decided it her body didn't move. Fully content with remaining in her perch.

Swaying slightly as the wind lazily fluttered the leaves, her ears perked at the sound of her name. Turning her full attention down to Silvestar, her ears tucked back. Embarrassed to be caught being lazy.

"It's okay, I'm just getting down," She told him, finding secure holds on her way down. Taking a leap from a lower branch she landed half a tail length away from him. Being one on one with the Clan's leader did something to her heart, making it difficult to look directly at him. She wasn't put off by him, in fact, she admired his spirit. Being able to step into a leadership role and being so young was admirable. Willowbreeze felt inadequate. She was a simple warrior, nothing more.

Realizing she was spiraling down into her negative self-talk per usual. She forced herself to look at the stream but did give a sideways glance toward Silverstar.

"Did you come out here to fish? I can head back to camp if you want to be alone," She offered but dreaded the answer she was expecting.

"Oh you don't have to do-" His words died out as she climbed down to be ground level. "That." He sighed. "I didn't mean to disturb you Willowbreeze, I just didn't want to startle you and risk you falling from the tree. I'm sorry for bothering you." He felt bad now, she'd seemed so peaceful before he bothered her.

Silverstar swept his tail against the ground then sat down and regarded the she-cat. "I was just walking, clearing my head. I didn't really have a destination in mind, so it was just chance I ended up here." He looked out over the stream, ears perked and alert but gaze far away.

"I used to come here all the time before I became deputy and then leader. Honestly, I miss those days. The trees remind me of better times, of lazy days spent by the stream just listening to the water run and enjoying whichever she-cat decided I was worthy of her time. Now...now it seems no one wants my time unless something is wrong, or because they expect something more from me than I have to give." He turned the force of his bright blue eyes on the she-cat then, thoughtfully.

"I have always believed that all she-cats are beautiful and unique, each in her own way. But..." He looked skyward and sighed, letting his body droop in a rare display of the soul deep exhaustion that plagued him some days. "I wish I could be sure that they saw me, not RainClan's leader. I was Silverfrost before I was ever Silverstar. It seems, these days, only my cold beloved understands me." He referred to leafbare that way, though rather or not Willowbreeze knew that was anyone's guess.

It was a unique situation for Willowbreeze to having the leader's attention. She rarely achived much to warrent any speical recongition. Their added age difference had put Willowbreeze in the warrior's den when he had been born. Not that it seem relavent now. His reflection on the lazy days spent in the stream made him seem less untouchable. He was like her, in some ways, but not too many. She didn't have his ease of confidence. She couldn't turn heads like he did, cats were drawn to Silvestar. Willowbreeze wouldn't ever admit it but she too had a crush on Silverstar a few moons ago, or perhaps more recent then that. Willowbreeze remained unwilling to even admit it to herself. Besides, Silverstar had other cats that were better suited to be by his side.

His words about no one wanting his time were troubling. Did he really not have friends just to talk to? Confide in and do nothing with. Perhaps Willowbreeze was more blessed then she had realized. She could recognize leadership was a burden but she hadn't thought of it being so lonely. She felt sorry for him but her sympathy was lost when his eyes settled on her. They were bright blue, dazzling, to say the least, and the brief moment that Willowbreeze saw them she felt captivated by them. She couldn't hide the flush to her cheeks as she distanced herself from him slightly, tilting her head to look down at her paws. Pretending to be distracted by the state of her forepaws, praying he wouldn't notice that nothing was wrong.

But her distraction didn't last long. His mention of finding all she-cats beautiful had her turning quickly to stare at him. How could he say that? She wasn't comparable to any of the she-cats in the Clan, but he left little time for her to dwell as he kept talking.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, I feel like that sometimes too. When I was younger everyone wanted to play with Lotuswhisker. She was always prettier then me and better at making friends," She told him, her tone matter-of-fact. She considered it common knowledge that Lotuswhisker was the better sister. "They saw me as a way to get to Lotuswhisker," She added shrugging slightly as her attention shifted back to the ground. "But I'm sure cats see you as you first then as our leader," Her words were intended to be comforting.

"As a kit I was a scrawny, weak little thing. Spent much of my time either sick in the medicine den or sleeping next to my mother or another of the queens. My siblings were all healthy and hale, so they got to play. I suppose feeling the sense of being on the outside looking in remains from there, even if the time is almost out of my active memory now." He tipped his head to regard her, a half smile on his features. "Why do you stare at me like that? Did I say something that offended you?"

Hearing her speak of her sister made him cringe a little. He had nothing against her sister, nothing of the sort, it just reminded him of how he'd felt going in front of the leaders that first time and since. "A leader is constantly under scrutiny. Everything they do is supposed to be above par, everyone expects more because we have been entrusted with the care of an entire clan by StarClan themselves. Its overwhelming." He looked once more to the stream. "I am essentially an infant around the other leaders, the youngest and least experienced. I'm younger than all of them, and younger than most of their deputies too. I feel as though they judge me most of all, everyone expecting me to fill pawprints that I'm not equipped to fill."

Did she even realize just how overwhelmed he remained? Or had he successfully hidden that fact from at least one cat in his clan? One could hope. But, a change of subject. "I slid right off the leader's rock at the last Gathering. In front of StoneClan nonetheless." He snorted. "I am surest in my footing during leafbare, and I slid off a snow covered stone. Right into a snow drift."

As his words called her out for her staring, Willowbreeze felt her cheeks flush. He hadn't done anything wrong, in fact she thought he was doing his best. He was the new face of a better off RainClan. A clan reunited. Willowbreeze still carried the memories of life on the fringe. Days spent wondering what the rest of the Clan was doing. Following Swafeather's directions and hearing the older she-cat spout hate on a routine bases. Willowbreeze was beyond happy that Silverstar was their leader. Yes he was young and lacked the wisdom most leaders had but he had courage and heart to face the challenge. He was exactly what RainClan needed.

He continued to talk about his own shortcomings as leader and Willowbreeze felt her tail flick in slight annoyance. Sure she had her own self-esteem struggles but he was Silverstar hadn't StarClan spoken to him. Explain why he was suitable. Perhaps their ancestors skipped the crucial part of the leader ceremony. Not that she could speak from experience, but instead she spoke from her own understanding of StarClan. Limited as it was.

He finished with the brief recap of his blunder at the gathering. She hadn't been present but gossip went through the camp faster than swimming with the current. Everyone knew within a matter of hours.

"Everyone makes mistakes. It's okay that you did. Sure it was probably the worst possible time but by the next gathering everyone will have forgotten," She told him in an effort to comfort him and perhaps offer him so solace. He did seem overwhelmed and maybe a bit lonely.

"Feel free to tell me no..but would it helped if we talked things out? I mean I don't know if I'm good at giving advice but I can listen. I'm decent at that," She offered, doing her best to look at him without the same aforementioned starstruck look. She made a conscious effort to look at him as if he was just another handsome tom.
