Name: Sootfeather
Age: 18 moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: NightClan
Rank: Warrior
Picture:
Description: Sootfeather sports a pelt of glossy black fur of medium length. It’s almost uniformly black, but for the few patches of white mixed in, a splash on her chest and wispy white fur over her ears. Her nosepad is also black, but her eyes are a luminous pale green, shining bright from the dark fur that surrounds them.
Rather stocky for a she-cat, Sootfeather prides herself on her strength. Long moons of training have added muscle to her once-lean form, and she carries herself with the confidence that comes with knowing she’s quite capable of taking care of herself. She moves smoothly, easily, with grace and control that she has mastered in her apprentice moons, and since.
Description Summary: Fluffy black she-cat with pale green eyes.
Personality: Sootfeather is a compassionate cat, though less in the mothering sort and more in the taking revenge for wrongs done. She’s a shoulder to lean on, an ear to speak to, and a ready defense for anyone having problems with a Clanmate. She’s certainly not afraid to go nose-to-nose with a cat who’s bigger and stronger, but her usual approach is not to charge in, claws unsheathed- no, she uses a calmer method, soothing rather than aggression, and is quite the fan of talking things out.
She has a tendency to take an almost obsessive interest in another cat, particularly apprentices, since they’re often overlooked by most cats, and kits too, over a certain age. She won’t mind helping a kit learnthe principles of how to hunt, or helping an apprentice with a bit of training they’re finding difficult. Her focus can sometimes make it difficult for her to really keep up with her warrior duties, to the point of having to be reminded about hunting or border patrols she’s been assigned to.
Her ambition, strongest when she was younger, has softened somewhat- she’s still willing to do whatever she can to increase NightClan’s standing in the forest, but her drive to be the best, to reach apprentice and then warrior status, has been achieved. There’s plenty she can do, in hunting and patrols, and she’ll fight her hardest during battles, but she’ll also be the one, afterward, to offer help to Smokefur and describe the battle to curious kits.
Sootfeather has taken her father’s ideals to heart, even though the restriction has been lifted for some time. She’ll only have kits with the strongest, and she doesn’t see the point in forming a connection with the tom, though she’ll gladly accept his help if he wants to give it while she’s confined to the nursery. She sees this as a duty she can perform for her Clan, no different from going out to hunt or patrol. To the kits themselves, she hopes to be as good a parent as Starlingcry was- and far better than Dimstar was.
History: Sootfeather was one of three kits born to Starlingcry and Dimstar, but the only she-kit. She spent her time evenly split, between her brothers and her mother; a few attempts to get close to her father failed, and she learned quickly to keep her distance from the tom. It didn’t stop her from watching from a distance as he went about his duties, feeling pride that he was her father even if he didn’t want to take an interest in her life.
She was even more proud of the fact that he was the one to name her an apprentice and assign her a mentor. Redcloud, named deputy at the same time- it was an incredible honor, and she might have boasted about the fact to her brothers just a bit. She trained hard, a quick study from the start, eager to learn all she could, as fast as she could- and surprised immensely when Dimstar checked up on how she was progressing.
That was the extent of it. He might well have asked any apprentice, for all the warmth he showed her, but Sootpaw refused to let it bother her. If that was how he wanted it, that was how he could have it. After all, she was too old to be treated like a kit and having him purr over her successes.
She took her warrior name from him too, pleased at the choice, and sliding easily into her warrior duties.
But, for all her rationale over Dimstar’s lack of affection, she was still shocked and upset when she learned of his death. Demon had taken him- he had gone off on his own even after he’d been told of the big cat’s presence. The fool- what had he been thinking?
Pinestar stepped up in his place, Redcloud having died shortly before the NightClan leader. Sootfeather refused to openly mourn her father’s death, throwing herself with single-minded focus into her duties. What better way to honor him than keep the Clan safe? A deep hatred of Demon has formed, however, and she wishes she had the strength herself to kill the cat who took her father’s lives.
The recent theft of territory by TreeClan has irritated her, and while she knows it’s not always the best option to charge back in and reclaim it, the thought of the enemy Clan’s warriors hunting on their territory pricks at her.
