dewkit, As Dewkit grew, the den felt smaller and smaller. The growth was subtle but enough to cause a change in her daily adventuring. Her paws stopped making sense in the dirt, resulting in adding a little hop skip to her step to avoid falling on her face constantly. Her brothers had left, yes, but even with her sister, the walls had started to lose their comfort and become stifling. She wanted to explore further than the camp! Further than the clearing outside her den! But, her time had not come. She was still a kit, and for her protection had to stay in camp.
It was boring, waiting to grow, but thankfully, another queen made everything exciting again. Lotuswhisker had moved into the den, and soon three little bundles had joined her. Dewkit hadn't been allowed to see the kits, and still was kept at a wide distance by her cautious mother. "But why!" She had asked, voice with a slight wail. "I'm not going to step on them! I just wanna see!" She had been quickly shushed with a bath, and a promise to see them later.
Well, the curious she-kit thought, It's later! I want to see! Checking around for any guarding warriors, Dewkit slid into the nursery. "Lotuswhisker?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She didn't know if the new ones needed quiet to grow better. "Can I meet your kits? I promise I'll stand right over here so I won't accidentally step on them." To show the good of her word, Dewkit planted herself, standing tall to mimic a sturdy, unmovable, tree.

I can feel you on my lips all the time But I just wanna feel you in my heart and on my mind Lotuswhisker had been a mother for nearly a week. These three beautiful kits sleeping against her belly represented a dramatic shift, from the life she'd once had to the life she now led. Though still tired, Lotuswhisker could say that she was recovering as well as expected, and that day felt so far away.
Comfortable in her nest, which had been lovingly decorated with feathers and soft reeds by her sister Willowbreeze and her mate, Gullswoop, Lotuswhisker's purr of contentment quieted down as a kitten's voice reached her ears. It was Dewkit, one of Echoshade's fo--two kits.
Not four. Pantherkit and Flamekit had gone back to TreeClan, where they belonged. Lotuswhisker's heart softened, unable to picture the kind of pain and sadness the little family was going through. It had been a blessing and a curse to bring those little ones to RainClan; they had fit in like family, and the sense of abandonment and unfairness must have upset the tom-kits immensely.
Lotuswhisker sent a prayer to StarClan, that their lives would be easier in time.
Dewkit mewed at the brown-shaded queen, and Lotuswhisker mrrowed with a warm laugh, pleased by Dewkit's efforts not to hurt her litter. She knew Echoshade was just being overly cautious. They were only six days old, and though they were still too new to the world to make friends in the traditional sense, Lotuswhisker thought it was good that they form all the bonds they could growing up. "Yes you can, as long as you promise to be very gentle with them. Come and meet Falconkit, Owlkit and Swankit." Lotuswhisker nuzzled each kit as she named them, rubbing her cheek along the tom kit's dark brown coat, and the two she-kits's softer gray coats, with Swankit's showing hints of orange.

dewkit, The gentle laugh, and a confirmation that it was okay sent Dewkit forward, small and sure steps with eyes watching where each pawstep landed. The she-kit already knew what kits meant to a queen, seeing her mother withdraw as her adopted brothers left, and did not want to start off on the wrong pawstep with the newest litter. Her mind threatened to wander, a new discovery blooming as she monitored each step. The nursery floor was dense, and sprung back under small pawsteps. It was the best place, Dewkit decided, catching her thoughts before they expanded into a whole clearing to wander in.
Her eyes widened as she got closer. "They're so small!" She said, amazement coloring her words. Instinct made her crouch, one to get closer to their level but two because she suddenly felt too large. "Was I ever this small?" Dewkit wondered aloud, sniffing at the edge of Lotuswhisker's protective tail as if smell could show her what future the kits had. She backed away with a little sneeze, the smell of new life invading her nose. Then she turned her attention up to their mother, realizing her rudeness as if Echoshade herself had gently reminded her to be polite. "They're beautiful Lotuswhisker."

I can feel you on my lips all the time But I just wanna feel you in my heart and on my mind Lotuswhisker's eyes glowed at the compliment. It's what everyone always said about kits, and she herself had said it many times when she would visit the nursery to see the newest little ones - but there was something special about it being said about her litter. To Lotuswhisker, they were wonderful beyond words; she thought little of their futures, not bothering to imagine what kind of cats they would grow up to be.
For the moment, she was enchanted simply by their existence. That she and Gullswoop had their own little family. It took away some of the grimness of her own familial ties, and kept her focused on what she had, not what she had lost.
"Yes you were, you and Fernkit both." Lotuswhisker smiled at the kitten, who did seem large compared to her three newborns. "Hard to imagine, isn't it? We start off so small and so helpless, but we all get bigger and find what we're good at." Though not thinking about her kits' futures, Lotuswhisker was still curious - about the future of the she-kit right in front of her. "Are you excited to become an apprentice?"
Where would this kit's paw-steps take her? To warriorhood? To become a queen, like her mother? Or to one of the rarer places in the Clan, such as medicine cat? There was something comforting and pleasant about being able to lie back and watch history unfold. She knew no matter what Dewkit decided, Echoshade would be tirelessly proud of her.

dewkit, Learning she had been that small, and given a little token a wisdom was a delight to the young she-kit. She smiled up at Lotuswhisker, more wonderment in her eyes. Everyone starts out small, and carves out their place, Dewkit repeated to herself, putting her head down to watch the kits gently stir in their sleep."Wow," she whispered, trying to sum up how amazing seeing the kits made her feel in a single expression. It wasn't the perfect word, but it worked for her young brain.
"Are you excited to become an apprentice?" Truthfully, Dewkit had forgotten for a moment she was going to be leaving the den and going on to bigger things. She scooted back to a safer distance now that her curiosity of examining every inch was sated, but not too far that they couldn't hold a conversation.
"Yeah," She started, staring down at her paws like they were suddenly the most fascinating things in the world. "I don't want to be far away from Fernkit, but." The confession came out in a hurried jumble of anxiety. She didn't want to leave her sister behind, or to be left behind. Dewkit frowned in thought, looking back up at the queen for confirmation that her thoughts were okay. "I need to explore without her too, not get under her paws either. There's so much to see! And, and there's new stuff that only a few cats know, like Swanfeather!" She stood up in her excitement, her next words tumbling out as her tail wagged. "She smells like the earth! And knows why clouds travel in packs an-and I know not everyone likes her-but she knows a lot. Not warrior stuff, but stuff that helps the clan in other ways. I wanna help my clan too!" Dewkit sat down at the end with a little huff, her words stealing all her breath away. The she-kit shuffled her paws in embarrassment, checking that her outburst hadn't woken the new kits.
"I wanna help." She said again, determination for a future greater than she could even dream up in her eyes.

I can feel you on my lips all the time But I just wanna feel you in my heart and on my mind Warmth and surprise blossomed in Lotuswhisker's eyes at Dewkit's answers. I wasn't nearly so dedicated or driven at her age. I hope my kits express that same kind of attitude towards life. That was the thing about generations; there would always be someone who came along that was even better at something than you were, or kinder, or had more drive, and things like that. Lotuswhisker was not an old cat by any means, but for the span of a few heartbeats, she saw how the next twenty-five moons of her life would unfold.
She would be in her sixties, and cats Dewkit's age and younger would be fully functional members of the Clan - carrying on the traditions and keeping RainClan's history alive. Hopefully, with cats like Dewkit and her own beautiful three, RainClan would become a more tolerant Clan with a strong sense of community.
"Maybe being a medicine cat is in your future, Dewkit," Lotuswhisker mewed kindly, wanting to encourage the kitten's hope for the future. That was ultimately in the paws of StarClan and Swanfeather herself, but it couldn't hurt to be supportive. "Do you know what will definitely be in your future? Fernkit. I have a sister just like you. Her name is Willowbreeze. We both went our separath paths for a little while, but we always stayed close. There's no better friend than a littermate, Dewkit. Especially a sister."
Lotuswhisker thought fondly of the sisterly bond she and Willowbreeze shared, her paler kin a confidante, a best friend, and someone she could turn to for advice if she needed it. That went both ways; she would support Willowbreeze no matter what. They were a team. 42 Moons | Senior Warrior | RainClan Lotuswhisker Tags: williams Hellion (for Willowbreeze mention!) dewkit, “A medicine cat, me?” The words took her by surprise. She hadn’t thought about her paws leading her that way! Maybe that's were I'm supposed to be. While Dewkit enjoyed play-fighting, and exploring camp, none of that truly made her heart and head feel full of warmth and understanding. Asking questions was her favorite pastime, and it was assumed that as an apprentice, Stormstar would pick the best mentor to answer those questions. Dewkit wanted to understand the world, everything it provided and how it lived and died and worked in tandem with the clans. Or against the clans, as the previous thunderstorms suggested. The suggestion made her world spin with possibilities, and uncertainty. Could she remember all the things medicine cats had to know? Where would her sister be?
“Do you know what will be in your future?” Dewkit looked up at the queen, her eyes wide with curiosity. “Fernkit.” Came the response and the little she-kit felt her whole system flood with love. She loved her sister with all her heart and more. Their paths may take them in different directions, as Lotuswhisker mentioned about her own siblings, but Dewkit would do her best to find herself at her sister’s side again. Her smile grew fond as she settled in to hear about Lotuswhisker and Willowbreeze.
“That sounds lovely,” She said dreamily, content with knowing her sister will be there. Her previous worry evaporated under the queen’s gentle words. “Has she seen your kits yet? I bet she’s really proud of you.”
