Look out to the future, But it tells you nothing

Coalpaw dropped the crow he barely managed to catch while hunting with a few of his fellow apprentices. The tom didn't really like feathers in his mouth and was grateful to get rid of the bird. Turning toward his den mates, Coalpaw frowned slightly once he realized they had wandered off.

Flicking his tail in slight annoyance, Coalpaw looked about the camp, trying to see if he could spot a family member or two. However, there was no such luck instead he managed to see Smokefur walk into her den. The sight of the medicine cat reminded him of something importnat.

Turning back toward the fresh-kill pile he picked up the newly captured crow. He was pretty sure he heard his a clanmate mention that Smokefur liked crows. Coalpaw relied heavily on his excellent memory and was confident the she-cat liked it.

Heading toward the den, he paused at the entrance before peeking his head inside. Coalpaw wasn't intending to intrude and remained near the entrance.

"Smokefur? I brought you a crow and wanted to tell you about something I saw while hunting," He said waiting for the she-cat to reply and welcome him or turn him away.

Nightclan was healthy. This was cause for celebration of course, as death and pestilence were two things Smokefur did not enjoy interacting with any more than she had to. When it came to interaction however these periods of prosperity saw Smokefur's quickly declining with her clanmates if she confined herself to the medicine cat den. This caused Smokefur to distance herself from what she would consider her home when it was necessary, she had no intention of entertaining loneliness with a clan full of cats were practically forced to socialize with her because of her status. Sadly work eventually had to be done, thus Smokefur was returning to her den after a stroll through the camp. It seemed she was in luck however after a short amount of time she heard a call from a visitor, Coalpaw as it were. She had a fondness for the tom, he seemed kind and his food offering only increased the likelihood of the observation. "Well come in then!" The medicine cat replied cheerily, she hadn't eaten all day.

Coalpaw felt his ears flick back as he heard Smokefur's words. He took a few short steps to get further into the den. At first Coalpaw's nose was overwhelmed with all the different scents. Never had he felt his nose under such pressure to figure out where the scents were coming from. Instead of getting lost in trying to sort out his senses, Coalpaw tried to ignore it. He nudged the crow closer to her to avoid any further inhalation of stupid feathers down his throat. He'd never understand why someone would bother to eat a crow, the feathers alone made the meal pointless. Once the gift of food was given, Coalpaw gathered up his words in order to tell Smokefur what he had to say. 


"I found some borage leaves in the marsh while I was hunting. I know they are boarge leaves because I remember them from when I was little." Coalpaw explained to Smokefur, unsure if she'd ever appreciate his find. While he was confident in knowing that they were borage leaves he wasn't even sure if Smokefur would have bothered to gather them. For all he knew the she-cat had enough borage leaves to last until the end of time. As he waited for her praise of disapproval, the tom-cat kneaded the ground with his paws.

Smokefur was feeling a bit peckish and wasted no time settling in and beginning to work at the crow. Coalpaw was indeed correct that birds weren't the easiest meal to enjoy, however she found the prey too tasty to resist. The medicine cat chewed her first bite as Coalpaw informed her of the herbs he had found while he was out hunting. With a feather stuck to Smokefur's mouth she stared blankly as she mulled over her response. She had borage leaves in her stores, however she didn't have an overabundant supply of them. Just as well Smokefur would never miss the opportunity to stretch her legs and get out of camp. With that settled Smokefur shook her head as she broke free from her trance like state. "Sorry!" Smokefur began well aware that she had most likely spooked the apprentice. "How about you help me finish this crow and then we go have a look?" She asked kindly with a cheery note in her voice.

Coalpaw watched the she-cat eat a good bite of the crow rather quickly. He let pride shine in his eyes, glad that he had remembered correctly what Smokefur preferred to eat. As he waited for the she-cat to finish, Coalpaw let his attention drift to various nook and crannies in the medicine cat den. There was a fuzzy old memory of him playing with his siblings, Coalpaw always took care of them after their games. His mother, Starlingcry, did try for a short time to encourage her son to consider life as a medicine cat as his future, but it went ignored. Coalpaw wasn't sure if he believed in StarClan and that seemed to be a pretty important part of being a medicine cat. His attention was drawn back to Smokefur once she gave an apology. Unsure what she was sorry for, Coalpaw dipped his head to show he accepted her words. She offered him part of the crow and the black and grey tom had to hold back the look of disgust on his face. Birds were the one type of prey he'd rather strave then eat. Coalpaw's food of voice was frogs or lizards and mice when they were fat and round during greeneleaf. "No thank you, I don't like birds." Coalpaw replied, ears flicking back in an expression of uneasiness. It wasn't very polite for him to decline to share a meal with another, older cat but Coalpaw hoped she'd forgive him. "I can wait for you eat then I can show you where I found the leaves," Coalpaw added tucking his plush tail over his paws to show that he was okay with waiting longer.
