Name: Rainblossom
Age: 73 moons
Gender: She-Cat
Clan: RainClan
Rank: Senior Warrior
Picture:
Description: Lean lines and dainty paws mark Rainblossom as a cat that can move quickly as opposed to hit hard. She isn't all that strong physically really, but boy can she run when she wants to. A common sight to see is this she-cat thumping her tail against things and other cats as she passes them by. It's usually just a light touch but very much still something that she does quite a lot. Rainblossom is a cat that seems to always know where she's going and she's rarely hesitant making it come as quite the surprise to those that don't know her secret that she actually can't see anything around her.
Her fur is a random dappling of blacks and whites with no real discernible pattern to it. She's a short-furred cat, but when startled or angry her tail puffs up to often hilarious proportions. The thing that makes her stand out the most to those that see her are her bright turquoise eyes that seem to see too much into anything and anyone that she sees. Those eyes stare directly at a cat and unerringly lock to the eyes of another as if seeking for any secrets they keep hidden within them. Then there are those odd moments where she seems to lose track of where she is and it is then that an odd vulnerability can be seen in those brilliant eyes as she attempts to get her senses back under control.
It's not that uncommon to see her have to be reoriented by the she-cat that raised and mentored her, but it happens less now than when she was younger.
Description Summary: A black and white dappled she-cat with bright turquoise eyes.
Personality: Calm and tranquil like a gentle pond, Rainblossom isn't a cat to let very much get to her. She is patient and kind and always has gentle words for those that are feeling down. She isn't a pushover though, far from it, as this she-cat has had to develop a strong backbone just to survive growing up in a clan so full of strife. Despite her lack of sight, Rainblossom tends to see more than those around her just because she knows how to listen to the world around her. This as also, with the help of the cat that raised her, helped to make her a confident hunter when many would have simply shoved her to the side and pretended she didn't exist. She isn't one to let herself be useless and defies all that try to stand in her way and tell her she can't simply because she isn't the same as other cats in the eyes of others.
As far as Rainblossom herself is concerned though, she's no different than any RainClan cat even though her world is always dark. She sees colors and beauty in the sounds she hears. The splash of water or the laughter of young kits, these are the colors that make her life beautiful and interesting. Her endless patience helped her learn to hunt in a way that works for her; even if it's different than her fellows. When her patience is tested by those that think she shouldn't do what she does, it is then that her real strength shines through. She never speaks a hateful word, even to those that birthed her, and instead simply states her intentions to do as she knows she can and then walks away from the ones wanting to rile her. To some, it may seem as if she's running, but to Rainblossom it takes a good deal more strength to ignore those that are hateful than to indulge them in their cruelty.
History: Born into a clan whose history has been rife with internal conflict and power struggles, it's amazing to think that a cat like Rainblossom made it into adulthood in the first place. Born to a pair of warriors by the names of Icefang and Shadowfell during the height of Leaf Bare, she was lucky to survive. The pair had two kits, Rainkit and Stormkit. Both were strong and lively kits but during the coarse of the season the stronger tom of the pair, Stormkit, became very ill and didn't survive to see the coming new season. His parents were devastated that their perfect little kit had died. They then put their efforts into their remaining kit and it soon became apparent that something wasn't right with the turquoise-eyed kit.
While her brother had lived, Rainkit had seemed so normal - a bit to gentle for their liking, but still just a normal happy kit - with her brother dead it soon became obvious that she wasn't as normal as they'd thought. She bumped into things constantly and when she wasn't doing that she was waddling around in circles mewling for her missing brother as if she didn't know he was gone. It occurred to them then, as the small she-cat struggled, exactly what was wrong. Rainkit couldn't see. She hadn't been sick like her brother, but thinking on it the pair realized that Stormkit had likely been helping her. They were furious and they also knew they had no use for a kit that couldn't see. What use was she to the clan? What good could come if she ever found a mate and passed her wrongness onto others?
So the pair decided one day, while it was still freezing outside, to be rid of their little problem. With Shadowfell carrying her, they wandered deep into the territory they knew so well. Rainkit knew, as they went, that something was wrong. She mewled for her brother to save her, but was greeted only with a sharp smack from her father and the snarled growl to be silent. They found a snowdrift and dropped her in it, then both left knowing a useless kit that couldn't see would never find her way back to the Nursery. She'd never survive, so small was she. Not without her mother's milk and the warmth and protection of the clan. They told their leader both kits had died of the same illness and tried to forget that such an abomination came from them. Frozen and terrified, Rainkit mewled her little heart out and wandered in circles desperately trying to find her way home.
Why didn't they love her? Where was her brother; the one that had always looked out for her? Why was she alone? What had she done wrong? Her parents were right, she couldn't survive. Eventually she fell and didn't get back up as snow fell over her and her tiny body slowly began to freeze to death. Just as darkness closed in, a sudden warmth curled around her and a warm voice purred in her ear that all would be alright. One of the clan queens, a beautiful golden-furred she-cat by the name of Snowdrop, had found her. Having lost her own kits just recently to the same illness that had taken Stormkit, she was startled to have found the tiny body lying in the snow. She heard the kits cries and desperate mewls for those that had abandoned her and decided that - though she would face repercussions for it - she would take the small kit in.
Snowdrop carried Rainkit back into camp and instead of returning her to the Nursery brought her to where those that had birthed her might not find her. There she tended her to the best of her ability, taking her in as her own kit and loving her as she deserved. New-leaf came and Rainkit began to get stronger, and it was then that Snowdrop discovered the same thing that Icefang and Shadowfell had; Rainkit was blind. Knowing the pair as she did, the queen realized that must be the reason her parents abandoned her. With her gentle heart though, Snowdrop didn't see anything wrong with Rainkit even if she couldn't see. She walked next to the small kit as she grew and noticed that Rainkit was more confident with someone by her side.
Time passed and Rainkit grew stronger and more confident; with her adoptive mother as proud as she could be. In that time, Rainkit developed an odd habit that took Snowdrop by surprise. Everywhere the kit went, she'd tap her tail against things and then the next time they passed through there she moved much more easily and without running into as much. It took a while before Snowdrop realized that the kit was mapping out the territory one tail tap at a time. She didn't understand how it worked, but left it as her small charge was smarter than any of them knew. Rainkit came of age at last and it had been long enough that her parents didn't immediately recognize her. Due to that, her secret was kept and Rainkit became Rainpaw. Her Mentor? Snowdrop's sister Canarysong. With the sisters of similar disposition, Snowdrop knew Canarysong would keep Rainpaw's secret and use the strengths the young she-cat already showed to teach her how to be a Warrior.
Time passed, Rainpaw grew. She learned to hunt by listening to the sounds around her. She learned to patrol by counting her steps and tapping her tail against things to know where they were. She caught her prey and learned to fight and defend, and in time she became a Warrior earning the name of Rainblossom for her gentle personality and determined nature. In time she grew confident and left behind the doubts of the passed; though in the background there was always the fear of others finding out her secret and judging her because of it. She was a good Warrior for the clan; she brought in prey and fought when she needed to. She stayed well out of the internal war that occurred and felt no sense of loss when the cat that had birthed her was killed during the confusion. It was the death of Snowdrop that hit her hardest. The cat that had raised her...her death came peacefully and from old age. She'd held on much longer than many may have guessed; not wanting to leave her beloved kit alone in such a hostile clan.
Rainblossom has yet to recover from that loss; though her Mentor still lives. She continues to do her best and hunt and take care of her clan, but her gentle heart is broken and Icefang seems to be watching her very intently as of late. Even as old as she is, even though she's old enough to be considered a Senior Warrior now, she still fears the dark tom that hurt her so many moons ago. What her future holds she has no idea, but she continues to live her life as she was taught to day by day as well as she can.
