"Come on!" The young tom drawled for his companion to move faster, the familiar squishing of mud underfoot a reminder of his moons as a kitten when he had wandered off, gotten himself lost, and nearly died in the strangling, suckling sinkholes within NightClan territory. He would've died if his father hadn't come to the rescue, nobly intruding on the land of RainClan's currently fiercest enemy if it meant saving his son from danger. His face drooped, but he was quick to hide the sudden change in spirit - only a select few knew of recent events in which Razorstar had lost two lives to, yet again, keep Pikepaw's single life in check. He hated to admit that a part of him actually felt guilty, actually felt remorseful about what had occurred, and he would take just about any adventure with just about any cat to keep himself contentedly distracted. The only difference was that, this time, he had kept his parents in the loop - on purpose, no less! - and had made the appropriate decision to not venture off alone. If Razorstar couldn't trust him, then at the very least he could take a deep, calming breath knowing that his apprentice was accompanying his son on this outing.
He liked walking along the NightClan border. It wasn't the safest idea, nor the most sensible given the tension between their Clans, but he was careful... at least, he liked to think that he was careful. He looked over his shoulders periodically to ensure Glowpaw hadn't fallen behind, and though his eyes were full of boyish mischief every time they exchanged a look (it was a trademark, of sorts, in his expression) he kept his intentions secretive and one hundred percent under the radar.
As far as Glowpaw knew, Pikepaw had taken her on this little mission of his to check the borders while maintaining a respectful and safe distance. It wasn't exactly what had been said to his father, and he wasn't really in any position as of now to be sneaking around the truth, but he thought he owed him a few favours - keeping an eye on NightClan for him was the least he could do, and he liked to think Glowpaw didn't mind doing something for the good of RainClan. Besides, it meant he could check up on the cat that had been occupying the thoughts hidden away in the back of his head since kithood.
It seemed like it was going to be another quiet day - yes, he had done this a few times already - and he attempted to disguise his disappointment a moment too soon because, there, just out of the corner of his eye, he could've sworn he caught a sign of movement. Pikepaw stiffened, signalling for Glowpaw to do the same with a flick of his black tail to the nose; despite the cloud of seriousness that settled over them in the wake of a potential NightClan patrol, he couldn't help himself from trying to push her buttons when possible. "Someone is over there, let's take a closer look." Maybe it wasn't a good idea, but there would be no chance of Glowpaw changing his mind.
Especially when he was already on the move.
