you will never be alone againlove will make it all right-------------------------------------- Warm sunlight filtered down through the leaves, shadows dancing across the forest floor in tandem with the silent footsteps of a warrior. His broad shoulders created a path through the underbrush, pushing aside grass and leaves and anything in his way. His steps led the way with purpose, as if he had a clear destination in mind. Each step fueled the aura of confidence and poise surrounding the mottled tomcat, but inside, his emotions were anything but.
It was newleaf. Newleaf means new flowers, new prey, new everything. And he wanted to take a part in the newness. He wasn't sure how, though. There was only one thing he could contribute to the life the world was bringing forth, but that needed a partner, and he wasn't sure how his mate would feel about this. After all, Emberthorn was a warrior just like him, and if Thornstrike knew his former apprentice, fellow warrior, and current mate, it was that she wasn't one to want to laze around in the nursery for moons on end.
Six would be a stretch, yet alone multiple litters.
Whoa there, Thornstrike. He reeled his mind back in. You're getting a bit ahead of yourself there. One step at a time. Six moons. Two three moon periods. Three two moon periods. The more he subdivided it in his mind, the better it sounded. She could do six one moon periods, right? Just mark a line in the dirt to pass the time, and then she would be back in the warrior's den in no time!
Chipmunk graced his nose just then, and his ears perked as he searched for the small animal. A short swivel later, he found it digging through the leaf litter at the base of an oak, most likely searching for some food for itself. He tensed, focused on his prey, then pounced, killing the small animal with a swift bite. He wanted to share a meal with Emberstorm, so he needed a meal for himself. He left the prey buried nearby and searched for a few mice to satiate his own hunger.
Hunting over, he collected his prizes and headed back to camp, looking for the flame that kept his heart ablaze.

As soon as the dawn patrol had returned, bringing news of a spat of angry words flung between warriors of TreeClan and warriors of NightClan, the fiery she-cat retreated to the warriors den. Only a few cats were still sleeping; many were already carrying on with their daily lives. Her nest was empty, and she slipped into the bed of moss with a sigh. Breathing in the lingering scent of her mate, she fell into a deep, restful sleep. ~~~~ Emberstorm lay on her back, body twisted, hindlegs splayed out and forelegs stretched out over her head. The top of her head was pressed flat against the ground, forcing her tongue to stick out slightly. Her tail twitched sporadically in accordance with her dreams, and occasionally she would flex a forepaw, claws extending and retracting involuntarily. From the outside, she lay in an outlandish, physically impossible manner, one that seemed far too uncomfortable to maintain. For her, it was a very comfortable, relaxing position, and the best way for her to fill the entire nest on her own. It was, after all, built for two, and felt too big for only one cat. Relaxing and stretching out seemed like the natural thing to do, and she would have done it even if she weren't so tired. ...Just maybe not so awkwardly.

you will never be alone againlove will make it all right-------------------------------------- Thornstrike entered the camp quietly, his eyes searching for Emberstorm through the fur of his prey. Not seeing her immediately, he deposited their meal at the back of the fresh-kill pile to hide it from plain view while he sought his mate. His paws led him to the nursery, thinking she might be checking on Honeypaw, before he remembered that her sister had been apprenticed -- thus the -paw -- and would no longer be there. His next stop was the warrior's den.
He found his gorgeous soulmate stretched out...no, splayed in their nest. Her body twisted in a seemingly painful position, her legs going every which way and her tongue hanging out of her mouth. He mrrowled quietly, beholding the sight of the usually graceful Emberstorm displaying herself in such a manner. Going over to he, he lightly touched her side with his tail as he sat down in front, waiting for a response.
"Time to wake up, love," he mewed into her ear. "I brought you something special."
Love was too short of a word for the senior warrior to describe the full depth of his emotions for the flame of TreeClan. He actually loved seeing her stretched out in their nest like she was. It looked like she was trying to fill the void left by his absence, which tempted him to crawl into the soft moss beside her and sleep the day away with her breath in his ear and her heartbeat next to his.
Instead, they were warriors of TreeClan, and with a long day in front of them, they needed to satisfy their hunger. The least he could do was to make it a special occasion. -------------------------------------- thornstrike | warrior | treeclanamber: emberstorm | tagged286 | wordcountall the fluff | notesthanks rick from RPGD

There was a gentle breath on her ear, followed closely by whispered words. "Time to wake up, love. I brought you something special." The purr began deep in her chest even before his words reached her ears. Emberstorm stretched slightly, back arching her body upward as her forelegs extended farther out. "Mrrr." One paw patted the air until it found the side of his face, and she attempted to guide him into the nest with her. It wasn't time to wake up, it was time to sleep. And even stretched out in the entire nest, it still felt empty without his presence.
She blinked her eyes open just barely, mrrowing softly. Her mind was still hazy with sleep, and he had always been able to render her incoherent, so her words came out oddly and slightly slurred. "Come back to bed. Sleep time now." She closed her eyes again and lay her head back down, still purring.
When he didn't join her immediately, she opened her eyes. The look on his face melted her heart completely, and she untwisted herself and stretched, yawning massively. She then settled herself into a seated position in front of him. "Okay, I'm up. Now, what did you bring me that was sooo special that it couldn't wait until after a nice, long nap?" She teased him lightly, smiling and blinking at him to convey that she meant no harm in her words. She wrapped her tail around her paws, watching and waiting with patient eyes.

Thornstrike grinned at her, the excitement in him practically oozing out of his ears. Saying nothing, he beckoned her to follow him with his tail. He led her out of the warriors den and to a soft spot in the sun, where he turned around to face her. "Now, sit down, and keep your eyes closed until I come back. Promise?"
Satisfied, he licked her cheek quickly and lightly let his tail brush her pelt as he walked away, back to the fresh-kill pile. There, he retrieved his two mice and went to grab her chipmunk, but didn't find it where he placed it. But it was right here! Frantic, Thornstrike looked back to where he left his mate waiting and then looked around the camp, searching for the stray chipmunk. Opening his mouth, he finally scented it and noticed that Sprucefur had grabbed his catch. Nabbing a squirrel from the fresh-kill pile, Thornstrike bounded over to the other warrior and laid the squirrel in front of him, exchanging it for the chipmunk.
"No time to explain but I owe you one!" he told the tom quietly as he scooped the reaquired chipmunk back into his jaws. Running back over to the fresh-kill pile, he picked up his two mice and strolled back over to where he left Emberstorm waiting. Laying his mice down (and panting just a little bit), he set the chipmunk directly in front of her and whispered gently in her ear.

He didn't answer, only walked away expecting her to follow. She sat for a moment, giving a grumpy glare to the back of his head. He woke her up just to play games? After a moment, her curiousity got the better of her, and she strode out of the den after him. He led her to a patch of sunlight. "Now, sit down, and keep your eyes closed until I come back." She lifted her chin defiantly, before sitting down a moment later. She kept her eyes on him a moment longer. "Promise?"
Emberstorm gave a small smile and closed her eyes, settling more comfortably into her sit. He licked her cheek and she purred, her smile growing larger. He left her, and she waited. And waited. She shifted her paws. With her eyes closed, moments felt like ages. How much longer would he keep her waiting?
Thornstrike's scent filled her nostrils again, and she shifted her paws impatiently. His warm breath tickled her ear as he whispered, and she slowly opened her eyes. She looked down at her paws and gasped in delight, excitement quickly filling the air around her. "A chipmunk!" She nearly squealed. They weren't exactly common, but they were her favorite, and for him to know that and remember that and then bring her one meant the world to her. She smiled at Thornstrike, pressing against his side, purring loudly.
"Thank you, love." She closed her eyes and nuzzled him just a little longer, before her stomach gurgled. She laughed and pulled away from him. "Shall we eat, then?" She dipped her head and bit into the chipmunk, savoring the taste. She purred and looked at Thornstrike through half-closed eyes, thoroughly content.

Thornstrike took a bite from his own meal as his answer, savoring the taste of the mouse. Prey was much more satisfying if you were the cat that caught it, he decided. It tasted that much better knowing that you stalked, hunted, and killed your own meal, putting your own work into the catch. He liked hunting for his Clan even more, happy with the knowledge that he was able to provide for his Clan and support those who supported him in return.
This tom could never be a loner. He thrived too much on the daily interactions of Clan life and needed the support the warrior code gave him. Those tenets guided every step he took, keeping on the path StarClan had for him to follow. He looked over at his mate, enjoying the chipmunk he had chosen just for her, and felt content with the world. Thornstrike didn't know what he would do if he didn't have Emberstorm in his life. As his apprentice, she had made an impact on him, and now, he was in love with her, from the ends of her whiskers to the tip of her tail.
As he swallowed the last bite of his meal, he wrapped his tail around the flame next to him. Waiting for her to finish, he began grooming her and just relaxed, breathing in her scent and enjoying their time together in the sun. He wanted to ask her about family, about maybe starting one of their own, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Every part of Thornstrike wanted to be a father, but he could wait if Emberstorm didn't want to give up being a warrior.
Whatever she wanted was fine with him. He glanced at her again, just taking in the sight before him. "The sunlight puts you ablaze," he mewed quietly, loving the fire in her felt from the sun's heat and the sun's rays. "You look radiant." -------------------------------------- thornstrike | warrior | treeclanamber: emberstorm | tagged334 | wordcountmuseless posts are so much fun | notesthanks rick from RPGD

The silence in which they ate wasn't awkward or uncomfortable, but peaceful and soothing. As she took her last bites, Thornstrike's tail wrapped around her, and she purred and leaned into him as he began to groom her. He did so for a while, before pulling away to look at her. She turned her head to meet his gaze, a small, content smile on her face and eyes half-closed.
"The sunlight puts you ablaze. You look radiant." She blinked at him, eyes opening wider. She shifted away from him, eventually rising and moving to sit directly in front of him. she looked him in the eye and fixed him with a stern look. "Alright, what do you want?"
She stared through his reaction, her gaze stern yet somehow gentle. She knew he was wanting something. It was okay to go out of his way to show his love for her, but there came a point where 'showing my love' turned into 'I want something and I really hope you say yes'. And Thornstrike had crossed that line at his comments. This wasn't all about saying 'I love you'. It was something more.
"And don't give me that 'can't I just do something nice for you' mousedung. You've got something to say. I can see it." She continued to stare at him, a bit of a smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth. "So, go on. I'm listening."

you will never be alone againlove will make it all right-------------------------------------- Thornstrike's eyes widened, and he felt just like a kit again, caught doing something he shouldn't have by Nettleflower. His jaw opened and closed as he tried to figure out what to say. Seeing Emberstorm's accusing glare, he blushed and admitted his intentions.
"Fine. You caught me." He grinned back up at her, pulling on that smirk in the corner of her mouth. "I was just thinking that, well, with the season change and the prey running and things being okay again, that maybe we think about family." He gulped, suddenly nervous. He didn't want to force this on her; his mate enjoyed her freedom. He didn't want her to think that he was forcing her to be a permanent queen and just bear his kits moon after moon.
"And I don't mean talking about Honeypaw or your parents," he finally added. "Maybe I want a family of my own. Our own." There. He said it. Not exactly. But it was implied. He wanted kits. Thornstrike wanted to see little minature Emberstorms and Thornstrikes running through TreeClan's nursery, tumbling into Lionstar and Thunderclaw and getting underfoot like kits did. He could watch them grow up and become apprentices, seeing them learn just like he taught Emberstorm all those moons ago. He would father part of the next generation of TreeClan, teaching them to love and respect the Warrior Code above everything else.
And, let's be honest. He was most excited about the little Emberstorms taking over the nursery. If every single kit was a fiery she-kit, he would be perfectly okay with that (although Thornstrike felt he might take the role of over protective father too seriously). He looked up at his mate's perfect green eyes, begging with his own. He truly didn't want to pressure her, but he felt so strongly about this desire for family that he was willing to do anything it took to change her mind. -------------------------------------- thornstrike | warrior | treeclanamber: emberstorm | tagged323 | wordcountpretty pleasee? | notesthanks rick from RPGD

Her smirk grew when he finally admitted his guilt, but as she listened to him speak, her smile gradually faded. His moment of nervousness brought a hint of a smile back, until he finally finished his piece.
"Maybe I want a family of my own. Our own." Family? A family? She blinked slowly, staring off into space. He wanted a family. He wanted to be a father. She understood that, and now that he had said it, she could see how he would be a great father. He had been a great mentor, and fatherhood was just the same, except the ties that bound were bonds of blood.
But did she want a family? She had family. She had her mother, her father, her brothers, her baby sister. But he wanted more. It was easy enough for him, he wouldn't have to spend moons away from his life as a warrior. The unspoken question was, did she want to be a mother?
One look into his eyes, filled with such a strong hope and need, and she knew her answer. She straightened herself up in her sit, tucking her tail around her forepaws elegantly. She looked at her mate, staring him right in the eye. "One condition. We have to name one of them Toadkit."
She knew the allusion to the cat of Thornstrike's past would strike a chord, and she tried to contain her amusement at his reaction. After deeming he had suffered enough, she broke into a giggle. "I'm joking!" She continued to giggle, even as she stepped forward to nuzzle into his neck. Drawing on a more serious note, "Yes, Thornstrike. I want to start a family with you."
