The hard ground cracked underpaw from the lack of water as the large ginger and red tom pressed forwards through the undergrowth and brush as it tore at his fur. With a growl of annoyance, the aggressive and scared tom ignored the branches that clawed at his fur like another cat who was angerly trying to rip at him. Despite him not worrying about his pelt, his head moved from side to side to avoid getting attacked and to avoid the moss ball in his jaws from getting shredded. His ears flickered back to catch the sound of his newly appointed apprentice following him.

Well, Wildpaw wasn't a newly appointed apprentice, he'd been one for a while, but he was Adderstrike's new apprintice as the tom's former mentor had been injured. With a snort of annoyance, Adderstrike watched a mouse skeeter out of his path and into the bushes. The abrasive tom would much rather be protecting his borders, or at least training Wildpaw how to fight than walking around gathering water for his clanmates. Adderstrike still had wounds that were healing from his fight a couple of days ago on the border with a filthy Nightclan cat. That's were he was really needed at the moment.

Another growl ran through Adderstrike as he pulled free from the grasps of the forest and towards the Sparkling Brook. With a flick of his ear, the tom set down the moss ball and glanced back at Wildpaw. "What do you know about fighting?" He asked in his harsh tone. Despite the tom's aggressiveness, there was a lighter side to him, but it hadn't been seen since the flooding. Cold blue eyes narrowed at his new apprentice as he awaited his apprentice's anwser. His ears twitched as he heard the gentle rolling of the rather low brook behind him.

WILDPAW
Apprentice || TreeClan

Wildpaw had been relatively quiet since their departure from the TreeClan camp, which was unusual for the pale grey tabby. The TreeClanner, for once, had been contemplating things over in his mind. He wasn’t all that sure how he felt about having Adderstrike as a mentor, but he definitely was happier with him than he had been with Frostwind.
This was their first training session and Wildpaw was keen to make first impressions count. He planned on showing off his battle skills, which he’d practised in his 6 moons in the nursery and then briefly with his former mentor. Once Adderstrike saw his potential, they could surely get onto advanced battle skills. Wildpaw smirked at the thought of telling his littermates he’d been doing advanced battle training, they’d be so impressed!
It was only when they at last reached The Sparkling Brook, that Adderstrike broke the silence with a,
"What do you know about fighting?"
Well, that was a good start, blunt and to the point, Wildpaw hated it when cats blabbed on unnecessarily. It also confirmed Wildpaw’s hopes of doing battle training and so the pale grey tabby tom sat up tall, meeting his mentor’s cold blue gaze evenly with his own dark green orbs, “I did a little battle training with Frostwind,” he began, slowly, mew loud above the background noise of the babbling brook, “So I’ve done the basics,” So can we do some advanced battle training? the pale grey tabby apprentice bit back the words, instead meeting his mentor’s gaze with an emotionless green stare.

Ears flicked as cold orbs watched the younger tom infront of him. Good, Wildpaw's former mentor wasn't completely useless. Tail tip twitched in aggitation, the deep ginger tom pulled himself to his paws before scooting the dry moss ball away from him, clearing the area so he could teach his new apprentice so advanced battle moves. Quickly scanning the area, the warrior's blue eyes ran over the dry trees and bushes. He made sure to keep what looked like a dead tree out of their practice ring.

After a few moments, Adderstrike turned back to Wildpaw. "I'm going to teach you how to use the trees to your advantage when you are on the ground." He growled in his low, deep voice. The seemingly permenant scowl on his face didn't falter as he padded over to a large oak. In a swift motion, his large paw swiped out, claws scratching into the hard trunk to make a clear mark. Pulling those pearl white claws back into his paw, Adderstrike turned to face Wildpaw.

"Now." He started, positioning himself infront of the tree, hiding his mark behind his broad shoulders, tail waving behind him in a slightly annoyed gesture, but his spirit seemed to be uplifted at this chance to pass down his fighting skills to this young apprentice. Pulling his front legs apart slightly, the large Treeclanner crouched slightly, blue orbs bright and cold. "Come at me." Adderstrike growled, narrowing his eyes and flattening his ears against his head.

There was a reason Adderstrike was considered one of Treeclan's fiercest and best fighters in Treeclan. And Wildpaw was about to figure out why.

WILDPAW
Apprentice || TreeClan

"I'm going to teach you how to use the trees to your advantage when you are on the ground.”
Wildpaw smirked, green eyes brightening. Adderstrike was a formidable fighter, well known around TreeClan for his battle prowess. Already, the ginger and red tom was, in the young apprentice’s opinion, a far better mentor than Frostwind had ever been.
The pale grey tabby watched with awe as his new mentor unsheathed his pearl-white claws and slashed at the trunk of a nearby oak tree.
"Now." … "Come at me."
The young tom grinned to himself and took a few steps backward, shifting his weight a little so that he was perfectly balanced. Once content with himself, he began to charge at Adderstrike, razor-sharp claws sheathed so that he wouldn’t actually hurt his mentor.
The wind ruffling his, still kitten-soft, pelt he skidded to a halt before the TreeClan tom and aimed a swipe at Adderstrike’s ears. From his previous training sessions, he had learnt that the ears, whiskers, general face area and underbelly were the most sensitive areas of a cat’s body.
His next move was a leap, aiming to land on Adderstrike’s broad shoulders. Flying through the air, he focused his pale green eyes on his target, paws outstretched as he braced himself for landing.

Cold blue orbs watched the younger tom as he advanced towards the older tom in an attempt to attack him. The older warrior never let Wildpaw from his sights, standing put and not attempting to intercept or advert from the oncoming apprentice. It seemed that he knew what he was doing, however, he was far to easy to read. The young cat's eyes were full of battle tactics, and he was staring straight at Adderstrike for a head-on attack attempt.

The Head.

Adderstrike quickly pulled his head back when Wildpaw's paw swung past his nose, a hissing sound in the wind from the power that would have struck if his paw had touched down on Adderstrike's muzzle. He's strong... Good. Pulling his orbs back to observe Wildpaw, the red-ginger tom flicked his tail before lifting his hindlegs onto the spot where his claws had ripped into the tree trunk behind him, positioning him in a downward angle.

The large Treeclanner had to only wait seconds before meeting cold blue with pale green. A smirk touched Adderstrike's muzzle as he watched Wildpaw sail through the air before pushing off the ground with his front paws and shoving off with his hind legs to send him soaring over Wildpaw's airborn body.

With a twist of his body, Adderstrike flipped himself in the air before landing on the ground with quiet, heavy paws, facing Wildpaw's fallen body. There was a quick touch before he shot forwards, large paws pinning the younger tom underneath him. "Neat trick... Huh." He said in his gruff voice, a hint of over confidence touched it. 

If Wildpaw could master a move such as the one Adderstrike was currently teaching him, he could outshine his brothers and several of the other Treeclan apprentices and even some of the warriors. Adderstrike had thought up and perfected this move when he was a young apprentice himself, and he outshined several other cats, leaving them in his wake.

Letting Wildpaw up, the dark ginger tom sat down, curling his hefty tail around his paws before waiting on the apprentice to gather himself together. "Ready to learn it?" He asked, without really needing to ask. He knew Wildpaw was the type to want to learn before making it even better that the original. He would make a great cat. A great leader someday.
