"Windpaw, from this day you will be known as Windheart, StarClan honours your courage and loyalty." Windheart touched noses with her leader; her heart filling with pride as she took a step back. Windheart! Windheart! Windheart! Amber eyes glowing, she puffed out her chest fur and basked in the glow. I’m a warrior! she thought gleefully. But before she could get carried away with herself, the brown tabby she-kit she found herself back in the StoneClan nursery, curled up by her mother. Frowning, she grumbled to herself, ”Why can’t I be an apprentice now, I’m six moons!” the brown tabby she-kit got to her paws, kicking a mossball out of her path. She was fed up of waiting. Windkit ambled back to her mother's side; perhaps she could ask Pyrelight when she would be made an apprentice? she paused for a second, it wasn't fair to wake up her mother when she was sleeping so peacefully, but the brown tabby she-kit did it anyway, prodding Pyrelight's side with a small paw. "Momma?" she took a step back, bracing herself for her mother's wrath. Windkit hadn't ever known the queen to be angry, apart from when she had once snuck a thorn into Oceankit's nest, but all the same... The brown tabby waited as Pyrelight roused, before firing away her questions at her mother's probably half-asleep brain. Head tilted to one side and amber eyes wide in an attempt to look as as small and innocent as possible, she spoke in a small, but confident voice, "When will I be made an apprentice?"

The sand colored tom had been walking by the nursery when he was suddenly assaulted by a ball of moss. Amber eyes blinked in slight confusion as he watched it ricochet off his shoulder, before skittering away on the ground. He flicked his tail, glancing left and right before deciding it must have come from the nursery. His ears pricked in time to hear a little voice ring out, slightly muffled by the walls of the nursery. "When will I be made an apprentice?"
The large StoneClan deputy blinked slowly, before a chuckle escaped him. He could remember being a kit. Being an apprentice was everything to a kit, he knew. He took a moment, recalling the pitch of the voice. After some pondering, he guessed it to be Windkit, one of Pyrelight's kits. Perhaps the sandy StoneClan deputy should pay them a visit. It had been a while since he stopped by the nursery to greet the queens. He couldn't remember doing so since he had become deputy. It was with that that the tom changed his direction, large frame ducking through the entrance, blocking most of the light from the outside. He was quick to move out of the main part of the entrance, so that light may enter once again, and the queens and kits could see.
His amber eyes quickly adjusted to the light, and he spotted Windkit by her mother, Pyrelight. His deep voice rumbled out quietly, friendly and warm as he spoke, not wanting to wake anyone who was still sleeping. "Greetings, Pyrelight. I hope you are doing well today?" As he asked the half question to the queen, his gaze was on her, and a gentle smile was in place. Soon, his gaze flicked to the little kit and he flicked an ear with a slight grin. "And Windkit. Was it you who launched the moss ball at me from inside the nursery?" His voice was light and playful, making it obvious that he was in no manner angry. He had a fondness for kits, and one day wished to have his own. He was, however, growing older each day. At 48 moons, he wasn't the youngest of the bunch. If he wasn't meant to find a mate and have kits, then that was StarClan's will. He would live with what they offered, serving the Clan to the best of his ability.

It was one of the few times Pyrelight was actually grateful her daughter had put an end to her dreaming; more mist and shadows and long, grass fields. An empty dream that she couldn't make sense of, no matter how many times she had it... It was almost as if she were trying to find something, but she knew not what or even where to look. Nothing ever changed. Well, nothing besides the mist.
Blinking groggily at the excited form of Windkit - who was already asking questions the moment Pyrelight had showed signs of opening her eyes - the mother of four yawned, fangs showing, cinnamon-hued ears swiveling as they picked up the sound of much deeper vocals, the muscular deputy of StoneClan suddenly entering the nursery.
Straightening slightly, the question her daughter had asked was momentarily driven from her half-sleeping brain, Pyrelight shaking her head to clear away the last cobwebs of somnus. "Hello Hawkwing," she mewed cordially, chancing a smile. "I am doing well, and yourself? Windkit here was just asking me about her apprentice ceremony - which should be any day now, I believe." The last few words directed at her energetic daughter, the warrior-queen leaned forward to gently lick Windkit's ears, feeling her heart swell with pride at the idea of her four offspring standing before Fallingstar to receive their new names and mentors.
Would Hawkwing mentor one of hers? No, not quite. He still had Umberpaw to train, after all.
Who then, would be setting Windkit's paws on the proper path to becoming a warrior?
Anyone but one of Smokeface's brood. Pyrelight somberly decided, hoping with every fiber of her being that Fallingstar would pick suitable - and not blood-related mentors for each of her four children. If Warhawk were here, he would've chuckled and said that his family wasn't so bad. But then again, if Warhawk were here, she wouldn't spend so much time worrying over things outside of her control.

"Greetings, Pyrelight. I hope you are doing well today?" Upon hearing the deep voice, Windkit looked up from her mother to see a large sand-coloured tom. It took a few seconds for her sharp amber eyes to recognise the tom; it was Hawkwing, StoneClan’s new deputy. Windkit let out a gasp of surprise; the deputy had come to see her! She bounced from side to side with wide amber eyes. But the next thing that the sand-coloured deputy said quickly quietened her down. ”And Windkit. Was it you who launched the moss ball at me from inside the nursery?” The brown tabby she-kit shrunk back a little in embarrassment, an ”Oh,” escaping her jaws, ”Sorry.” Now it was her mother's chance to speak,"Hello Hawkwing," "I am doing well, and yourself? Windkit here was just asking me about her apprentice ceremony - which should be any day now, I believe." Having recovered a little, Windkit took the time to study the deputy. She had seen the sandy StoneClan tom around camp once or twice, but she had never met him formally. Amber eyes round with awe gazed up at him, ”You’re deputy,” she breathed, still trying to get over the fact, ”I want to be deputy one day, and then leader.”

Hawkwing ~~~~~~~ "Hello Hawkwing, I am doing well, and yourself? Windkit here was just asking me about her apprentice ceremony - which should be any day now, I believe." At the she-cat's response, the tom purred slightly, dipping his head to acknowledge her response, and show that he was glad she was doing well. It was right about here that he noticed the she-kit again. She was blinking up at him rather... Almost awestruck. He grinned slightly, listening intently as the she-kit spoke to him. ”You’re deputy,” The tom chuckled slightly at this, ears pricked to catch the ending of her words.
”I want to be deputy one day, and then leader.” This interested the tom, and he lowered himself down, laying down nearby. "I am deputy, you were right about that." He told her, his voice a soft rumble. His sandy colored tail was tucked in around him as the large tom made himself as small as possible. His gaze flicked up to the queen, gauging her reaction to his presence. He figured she wouldn't mind him speaking to the kit. You could never be too careful, however. There were some queens who could become extremely protective of their kits.
His gaze returned to the she-kit. "You wish to become deputy? You know, you might just get that far. You look like a cat who is ready to work hard. Tell me, Windkit... Are you ready to work hard? Become an apprentice and prove to the Clan just what you're worth?" [/size]

The beautiful cinnamon and silver tabby felt her heart warm from it's center to it's edges, watching the exchange between Hawkwing and her ambitious little Windkit, a purr rising up in her chest like the tide. Thank you for being so patient with her, she wanted to tell the StoneClan deputy, grateful that, for all his size and ferocity, he could really be quite the genteel, understanding old soul.
Could Windkit really be the future StoneClan deputy?
Pyrelight studied the two of them with a mother's thoughtfulness, the idea sounding better and better the more she thought about it. It was good for Windkit to have dreams, it was good for Windkit as well as her other offspring to not dwell too much on the death of their father, Warhawk, who very well would've been deputy had fate not struck him down in his prime. If only Oceankit would stop spending so much time with Smokeface, if only Oceankit and Emberkit would both stop clashing over every little thing...
For every pang of worry she felt over the futures of her four kits, was a small, blossoming ray of hope that told her that they would all be just fine - Windkit could very-well someday be deputy, Oceankit, Earthkit and Emberkit could all become warriors she and their Clan could be proud of, but Pyrelight knew her love for those four was eternal and incorruptible, no matter what path they chose to walk. "Have you been extremely busy, Hawkwing?" Mewed the cinnamon queen, regarding him with friendly hazel eyes as she tried to uncover a little of what was going on outside of these sturdy nursery walls. She wasn't getting out much these days, and as such always had to wait for someone to stop by and give her an update on how things were going out in the rest of camp.

"You wish to become deputy? You know, you might just get that far. You look like a cat who is ready to work hard. Tell me, Windkit... Are you ready to work hard? Become an apprentice and prove to the Clan just what you're worth?" Windkit nodded, amber eyes wide, ”I’m ready to work hard,” her attempted deep, proud mew came out as a rather high-pitched kittenish squeak. The young she-cat however ignored this and just fixed the StoneClan deputy with awe-filled amber eyes. ”Do you know who my mentor’s going to be?” she asked Hawkwing hopefully. Windkit was itching to become an apprentice; perhaps the large sand-coloured tom knew who her mentor was to be? Maybe, her future mentor could give her an advanced training session; it was only a few days until her apprentice ceremony, or so her mother had said.

Hawkwing ~~~~~~~~ "Have you been extremely busy, Hawkwing?" One ear flicked at the sound of the queen's voice. His gaze lifted away from the she-kit for a moment, focusing on the she-cat who was her mother. He offered her a smile, but it was obvious that there was the faintest trace of exhaustion. "I will admit, the first few days have been busy. Fallingstar has been feeling... More than a little betrayed, I believe. It's been up to me to take care of most things while she works on mending her heart. She took it extremely hard." He told her, his amber eyes showing no sign of disappointment for their leader. There was only understanding. "But, the Clan has been doing well. Everyday it seems that we are getting stronger kits, ready to become apprentices, much like your Windkit here. And Fallingstar is healing, I like to believe. We'll have her back soon, and StoneClan will go on. For the time being, I will continue to do my best as deputy. My heart lies with StoneClan." He told her, that warm smile on his lips again.
”I’m ready to work hard,” Another voice brought his attention down, closer to the ground. Amber eyes gazed warmly at Windkit as she looked up at him. His paws were crossed one over the other in front of him as he listened patiently to what the kit had to say. ”Do you know who my mentor’s going to be?” He chuckled slightly, purring as he spoke. "If you're ready to work hard, you will go far, Winkit. As for your mentor... I'm afraid Fallingstar keeps that a secret. Even from me!" He told her, lifting a large paw to gently cuff her over the ear. He was careful in his movements, knowing how big he was, and how small Windkit was in comparison. "Do not fear, however. You will know soon enough, and you may begin your journey."

"If you're ready to work hard, you will go far, Windkit. As for your mentor... I'm afraid Fallingstar keeps that a secret. Even from me!" Windkit let out a groan of annoyance, she wanted to be an apprentice now! She wanted to leave camp with her new mentor and go hunting and then go and patrol the borders. She wanted to fight for her clan, she wanted to defeat any challenge that stood in her path. Sinking her claws into the mossy nest, she tried not to let this feeling show and instead mewed calmly, ”Oh, okay.” Then she had an idea. The brown tabby kit grinned, fixing Hawkwing with eager amber eyes, ”Can you teach me some warriors stuff?” she flicked a scrap of moss off her pelt, ”Like a hunting crouch or battle moves!” Her eyes lit up at the thought of all the sandy-furred tom could teach her, she knew he wouldn’t be her mentor for he already had an apprentice; Umberpaw was it? But he could still teach her something, after all, he had to be very knowledgeable and brave to be deputy. Perhaps he could teach Windkit to be brave and strong like him?
