Green eyes glanced to the sky, darkening with each passing moment. Ginger paws moved forward, even as the cat shook her head. She hoped the angry grey clouds would pas without harm, but she knew it was likely they would pour down their frozen wrath over all the Clans.

Emberstorm finally pulled her eyes from the sky, surveying the forest around her. With Dustfall and Juniperclaw out on a hunting patrol, and Pineneedle strutting around the camp like he owned the place, she needed to get away for a bit. So, here she was, walking over frozen ground along the NightClan border.

The forest was silent; leaf-bare had chased away most creatures into hiding or hibernation. It seemed only the cats were foolish enough to fight through the freezing temperatures, but rest assured, they would be the first to see new-leaf spring into action.

The dark ginger tabby kept her pawsteps light and airy as she eyed the NightClan side of the border. So far, she hadn't picked up sight or scent of the murky cats, but her journey had only recently begun.

Over the past few days and dreary hours, Lionsong had grown sick of working but she didn't rest. She was heading toward NightClan border in order to guard it, Smallshine had asked her kindly to do so and without question Lionsong did as she was told.

Carrying herself easily toward the border she tired her best not to allow her empty belly beg her to hunt, she had already given her first small mouse to the queens and would rather continue on that path or ensuring the queens were well feed.

Nose flaring she caught wind of Emberstorm another she-cat of TreeClan and a new warrior. Picking up pace Lionsong made her presence known by clearing her throat. "Hello Emberstorm, Smallshine wanted me to guard the border also, care for some company?" Lionsong meowed politely coming to stand beside the she-cat.

Emberstorm turned at the sound of a throat clearing behind her. She smiled when she recognized the older warrior, Lionsong, and dipped her head in greeting. The ginger fae tipped her ears forward to catch the words of the other warrior, her smile remaining.

"Of course, I don't mind." Emberstorm smiled and turned back to the path, moving forward through the cold air. As they walked, Emberstorm cast her eyes across the border, searching for any signs of NightClan cats. The border was quiet today, though, and Emberstorm found her gaze wandering through the bare trees.

After a moment, she turned her gaze to Lionsong, figuring this would be a good time to get to know the she-cat who was only a few moons older than her. "How have you been, Lionsong? This leaf-bare's been a tough one." Sure, it wasn't much, but she was trying. That counted for something, right?

She was greeted politely by the ginger she-cat that almost at once Lionsong felt she could befriend her quickly. Flicking her tail she sat beside the she-cat and smiled kindly at her, the polite question warming the golden she-cat with the promise of a new friend.

"It's cold no doubt, but I try to get up a move around so I don't feel it as much as my parents do. When I get to see them they always talk about hurting joints. " She replied sweetly and swayed her tail back and forth behind her. "How are you? Are staying warm?" She asked her eyes warm and kind, wanting to get to know the ginger she-cat better.

Green eyes grazed over the golden-furred she-cat as she answered her question. Most of the older cats, especially the elders, had complaints of joint pains with the chilling weather, even if some, like her mother, hated to admit it. "Yea, Silvercloud seems to be taking it hard, too. I can tell she's in pain, yet she refuses to see Elderpaw about it, no matter how much my father urges her too." Emberstorm smiled and shook her head. "Sometimes she's too headstrong for her own good. Guess that's where I get it from."

Emberstorm's smile stayed as Lionsong returned with her own question. "It's tough sometimes, but I manage. It helps having Dustfall and Juniperclaw close by to get me through the night." Emberstorm felt her pelt grow hot as she thought about the warrior who had been her mentor only a few moons prior. Now they were both young warriors, and she could feel herself drawn to him more and more. Of course, she wouldn't admit it, not even to herself, but there was perhaps more than friendship growing in her heart.
