Handsome green eyes watched the sleeping frame of his mother before letting out a huff of air. He was bored, terribly bored and boredom was like death for Berrykit. Looking from his mother to the exit of the nursery Berrykit was tempted to venture out again but knew that half the camp was on alert. His earlier attempt to sneak out was hindered by Lionsong and her big mouth. His pout grew wider as he thought about and let it fester in him. "Stupid Lionsong,"He growled in his head before turning to face the depths of the nursery.
He rarely trotted further into the nursery than his mother's nest. There really wasn't a reason. Most of the queens that had nests that far in were new mothers and had boring kits. However, Berrykit knew something no one else did (or so he thought). Finding the courage easily, Berrykit strode in and planted himself near the tail of Moonfeather.
The she-cat was new to TreeClan and from what he heard around camp she wasn't actually a member of their Clan, more like a freeloader but he didn't care. She was different and still held a unique scent that made him wonder about life outside of the camp. Checking back to see his mother hadn't woken, Berrykit's forepaw moved forward to smack at Moonfeather's tail.
"Hey! You awake?! I want to talk to you!" He meowed toward her, paying very little attention to the sleeping kits nesteled beside her.

She felt something flicking at her tail, and her sleepy mind didn't realize what it was. So she flicked her tail away and smacked her paw down on top of whatever it was. Of course then she realized it was a small furry body and thought that maybe one of the kits had scooted away in their sleep and just needed to be brought back into the warm pile of sleep. So she tucked her small paw on top of the small furry body and drug it closer to her where the other kits were sleeping.
Moonfeather shifted in her sleep to lay her head back on the pile of kits, that way no one would squirm away in their sleep again. "Go back to sleep little ones." She purred to them, vibrating the sound through her body.
And then, of course, she heard an unfamiliar little voice and opened her eyes. Green eyes scanned the area around her nest with sleepy confusion. "Who's there?" She looked back and forth, everywhere but down into the pile of kits at her side.
A squeak escaped Berrykit as he was scooped back toward the other sleeping kits. With a grown of protest Berrykit tried to wiggle away but all attempts were in vain. The queen had a pretty solid grasp on preventing him from going far. Annoyed that he was caught, Berrykit was half tempted to nip at the she-cat to really wake her up.
She woke up before he had to get forceful and her words were directed around her as she looked about. Flicking his tail Berrykit was at least careful not to step on the truly sleepy kits as he brought attention to himself.
"Over here!" He chirped, as he managed to wiggle away from the other sleeping kits. His eyes were sharp as he stood before Moonfeather. "I had a few questions. First one, why are you in the nursery if you aren't from TreeClan. Second can you tell me about life outside there?" His voice was stern and oddly adorable. Berrykit had big words for such a little body, his tail twitching as he waited for an answer. Over eager in every sense of the phrase.
Moonfeather blinked once then looked at the kit smooshed in against the pile of her own young ones. "Oh, I'm sorry." She offered the youngster, lifting her paw so that he could get away from her and the warm kit pile she had at her side. "And hush, before you wake my kits." She hissed softly at him, but it held no malice since he didn't know any better at this point.
Her head tipped slightly to one side before she answered him. "I'm here because Lionstar invited me. Apparently its part of the 'code' to help a queen in need. Or something. I don't really understand it, but I'm grateful. I'm a decent huntress so once the kits are weaned I can be of use to the Clan, pay back my debt for being allowed to stay through the cold season." The second question threw her for a moment. No one had really asked where she'd come from, other than knowing that it was far away.
"I came from a place well outside this valley, where two-legs built their nests and there were no Clans. Life outside this valley is harsh and unforgiving, and each cat looks out for themselves or their family unit. Its not an easy life." She sighed and shifted so that she could lay her head protectively over her kits. "But...the world beyond these protected walls is vast. Its filled with all sorts of strange scents and sights. I learned to swim next to a swift moving river, and how to tell when the freeze over the lake was thick enough to walk across. There's so many things out there to explore, to see and to learn, if you've the mind to do it."
Berrykit's ears perked back as he was told to keep quiet for the sake of her kits. Did he look like he was trying to cause trouble? The most annoying sound was mewling kits that kept whining about milk or something else boring. Instead Berrykit made a overly visable gesture of opening and shutting his mouth tight. Hopefully the loner understood what he meant.
Berrykit listened to her explanation as to why she was in the nursery with her two bundle of kits. His attention drifted for a moment to Aspenkit, the black and white tom-kit. Berrykit didn't know the detail of why Moonfeather was taking care of him, but Berrykit knew it had something to do with Aspenkit's mother dying.
Berrykit felt she ought to pay back the clan that helped her. The leafbare was going to be tough, granted he hadn't really lived through one but still. Moonfeather was taking up space, not that Berrykit had much to say about it.
Once she started to talk about her life before moving into their nursery, Berrykit's ears perked up.
"I like being in TreeClan. I mean I haven't seen much of it but my parents like it and everyone in camp seems okay. Besides who would want to be all on their own?"Berrykit stated before rising up to his paws and looking toward the nursery exit.
"I'm going to wake up my siblings."He purred with a slightly devilish smile before trotting toward his sleeping sibling and poking them with a forepaw.
