STORMHEART
Clearly confrontation was not working with this apprentice. So, the older warrior, calmed down, allowing his anger and frustration to leak out. He remembered when one of his apprentices, his first one actually, had become more alienated and stubborn when confronted directly and angrily about something. What STrmheart had not realized then, was that he truly did not understand what was wrong wth his actions. Perhaps now the same could be said of Badgerpaw.
"Badgerpaw, why did you cross the border, what was your reason? Was it the other apprentice? Did you want to meet her, talk with her?"
It would not surprise Stormheart if such were the case. When apprentices were young, they were still curious about the outside, about other clans. They wanted to learn everything they could. Unfortunately they pulled stunts like this, where they could cause major damage to both clan relations and even their own lives.
"Do you know why we have a code Badgerpaw? Because it makes us different from just any other rogues and loners. It gives us a system of honor and justice which other cats do not have. It defines who we are, as clans, as well as respects the boundaries of each clan so that we may live peacefully with each other."
Even as Stormheart spoke with pride of the code, he also felt a pang of sadness. Very few times in his lifetime had he felt that the code had been taken into consideration in times of difficulty. He sighed.
"Unfortunately, few cats see the code as I do, they work the system, and stay just on the edge of blatantly breaking the code. I see those cats as selfish."
Finally he had reached the point he was trying to get to, he looked back at Badgerpaw with piercing yellow eyes.
"When you got that prey, were you considering the danger you were putting yourself in, your clanmates in? What about the elders and queens and kits who could have been hurt because you had caused a conflict with Stoneclan, who very rightly has a severe grudge against us? But most of all, were you considering your clanmates, those who cannot hunt for themselves, when you planned to hunt and trade for prey from another clan? In considering eating the lizard, just because you wanted to taste something new, you were being selfish and putting yourself above your clan. Is that the kind of warrior you want to be?"
