Drizzlepaw lay outside the apprentice den, her home as it had been for six moons… a whole cycle of apprentices. As it were she was there with a warrior that had recently cycled out herself with some of her kin. Kindleflare as her name now was, sat beside Drizzlepaw as her name now was. It was just a small get together with friends, even if their ages vastly differed, and for the life of her Drizzlepaw wasn’t exactly sure it was that simple anymore. Of course there was the warrior name that Kindle possessed which she did not which gave the younger she-cat a certain amount of authority over Drizzlepaw. So there they sat as Drizzle was trying to verbally make sense of their situation, “So… I’m still an apprentice and you’re a warrior.” She said awkwardly not even sure how to approach such a thing, “Things don’t have to change do they?”

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
The smaller framed she-cat was laying just outside the apprentice's den. She hadn't had a nest within that den for a moon now, but part of her still felt as though it was there where she belonged. When she'd been in that smaller den... She had felt safer. She wasn't one for large crowds, which is exactly what the warrior's den was. There were so many LightningClan warriors all residing within that single den... For the shy, ginger she-cat, it was all rather nerve wracking. It was for this reason, perhaps, that the she-cat was not there in that moment.
Instead, she was lying with one of her close friends. Some often found it odd that Kindleflare would be close friends with Drizzlepaw. The other she-cat had a few moons on her. And by a few moons, we're talking almost thirty moons. Kindleflare had only just been named a warrior a moon back, leaving her at the age of thirteen moons old. Drizzlepaw, however, was in her fortieth moons. The truth was... Drizzlepaw didn't seem to mind Kindleflare's timid ways, and was always welcoming to her. The older she-cat never asked questions that Kindleflare didn't want to answer. And with a dilemma like the one she had whizzing through her head... It was a relief.
When her friend spoke up, the ginger and white she-cat glanced towards Drizzlepaw, fixing her with a gentle, warm amber gaze. Her overall appearance was so unlike her brother's that it was almost hard to believe they were siblings. And yet, the strength of the family bond that existed between them... It obliterated any doubts that might rest between them. Pulling her thoughts away from her brother, the confused she-cat tipped her head to the side, almost as though she were taken aback by Drizzlepaw's question.
"N-No! Of course not! I don't care what our ranks s-say... You're still my friend, and I'm n-not going to let anything change that!" Her voice was soft when she spoke, but there was a touch of determination in it, one that clearly said she wouldn't give up, and that she would hold that promise as best as she possibly could.

It was rather strange but Drizzlepaw found Kindleflare’s answer, riddled with stuttering and everything, to be quite calming. The mellowness of the blaze pelted she-cat was enough to rival her own and even though Drizzlepaw didn’t have much of a stutter when she spoke they both shared a bit of nervousness. The biggest difference was Kindleflare’s ability as a warrior which had surpassed Drizzlepaw’s moons ago. However it seemed that wouldn’t be coming up between them because they were just friends, and as Drizzlepaw had proved many times before as she saw group after group of kits become full warriors surpassing her; age didn’t matter when it came to true friendship. “Well I’m glad you feel the same way…” She said softly before venturing into a new conversation, “With my old mentor… gone.” She paused as she hung her head slightly, she was fond of her previous mentor and her disappearance wasn’t at all welcome. “… I wonder who will be my new mentor.”

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
Offering her friend a smile, the flame-colored she-cat shifted slightly, settling into a more comfortable position, her sun-colored eyes soft as ever as she listened patiently to her friend. Her tabby striped ears pricked forward, before turning backwards slowly, thoughtfully. The amount of thought she was putting into it was clear, written all over her features as she stared down at her paws, brow furrowing slightly as she gave a slight mrrow of thought. She began to flip through as many warriors as she could think, wondering who Redstar would choose as a mentor for Drizzlepaw. The she-cat's story was different, which meant a special mentor was needed.
After drawing a black, Kindleflare turned an almost apologetic glance up to her friend, shrugging her slim shoulders. "I... I can't think of anyone... B-But I'm sure that whoever it is will be a very special cat, and very lucky to have you as their apprentice. Y-You're something special, you know?" She told her friend, shifting again, this time to place a gentle paw on one of Drizzlepaw's own. Pausing for one moment in the comforting gesture, she smiled gently. Slowly, she drew her paw back to where it was supposed to sit, crossed over her other.
Her tail wrapped around her, the little she-cat lost herself in her thoughts for the briefest of moments, before she managed to hone back in to the situation at hand. "S-Sorry... You're just.. Well... You're just really special to me.. Kay?"

It seemed her question had caused quite a bit of thought to run through Kindlefires mind, she could see the gears whirring to life and running at full speed racking as the bright colored she-cat racked her brain for an answer. However as she answered it was clear that there was none to be found, and Drizzleduck knew it wasn’t Kindlefires fault at all. It was painted in her response and the repeated use of the word ‘special’, Drizzleduck took no offense to its use either. She was special, very special as it were, and she knew she needed a very special mentor to even teach her. It wasn’t something that was easy to come by so for now she would probably be given a temporary mentor until someone with the right skills to train her become free. She nodded looking down at the paw Kindle laid on her own, a gesture which elicited a purr from Drizzleduck; she wasn’t at all used to receiving such kind treatment from other cats. However in that way Kindlefire was special herself, “Yeah… I suppose I am ‘Special.’” She admitted with a smile in her friends direction, “If I keep getting bounced around and never become a warrior maybe you’ll get to be my mentor someday…”

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
If cats had the ability to blush, there is no question that Kindleflare's embarrassment would have been written all over her features, covered in a bright red blush. As it was, her red fur did a fine job of covering that blush that might have wanted to creep over her gentle features. Still, her eyes sparkled with her embarrassment, and she turned her gaze to her paws, shuffling them slightly as she tried to find a way to cope with it. She hadn't even thought of the way she had used the word special. She had meant that her friend was so.. So different, so amazing. But she realized in that moment that her kind words could have just as easily be used in a negative way.
Just the thought that one of her friends might have taken something she had said the wrong way... It was heart clenching. She found herself holding her breath. Slowly, she turned her gaze back up to Drizzlepaw, her warm amber eyes glowing hopefully. StarClan, please don't let her be mad at me... She thought to herself. Upon seeing the smile on her friend's lips, however, the ginger tabby relaxed, a smile spreading over her own lips too.
When Drizzlepaw continued speaking, the she-cat found herself blinking in astonishment at her friend. Her heart skipped a beat before she found her smile once more, her eyes glowing softly yet again. "You know... I think... I think I w-would like that a lot, Drizzlepaw... It... it would be an honour to me to g-get to train a she-cat as amazing as you..."

Drizzlepaw was more then a bit relieved that Kindleflare liked the idea; it meant that maybe someday it really could be possible. Mostly it all hinged on her being an apprentice until the day her friend would be experienced enough to have one, and it was a bit pessimistic but Drizzlepaw was figuring it would probably be the case. She hoped that her next mentor was kind and caring like the last two that had handled her, and feared the idea of getting a slave driver thinking that working her to the bone everyday would somehow improve her; Drizzlepaw knew well enough any such approach would yield no favorable results. “So… what do you think I should do now?” She asked looking at Kindleflare, “I have no mentor and I’m not sure what duties I’m supposed to do or where I’m supposed to go.” She was sure that sometimes she was forgotten about; a normal apprentice would probably have had a new mentor nearly instantly after they lost their old one. She however was just a set piece in the clan that could be easily forgotten about, and she was sure she deserved it.

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
Drizzlepaw's next question wasn't as hard to answer. Brightening slightly, Kindleflare shifted forward. The burst of excitement was evident, tearing over Kindleflare's otherwise gentle features. Her amber eyes were warmer than they had seemed moments before, which was hard to do, considering she always looked so welcoming. Holding back the squeal she almost let lose, the newly named warrior resorted to bouncing up slightly, forcing herself to stay seated, no matter how much she wanted to just jump to her paws. Her tabby-striped, ginger tail curled as she smiled back at her friend, her voice coming out in a gentle purr as she spoke.
"W-Well that's easy! You just have to keep yourself busy! When I was an apprentice, w-when my mentor didn't come to pick me up for training, I would find someone to go hunting with. My brother was always willing to come with me. If you want t-to go hunting, I'd be happy to go with you!" Whiskers twitching slightly, the remnants of her wave of excitement, the ginger tabby she-cat kept her friend's gaze in her own, hoping that Drizzlepaw would like her idea. After a brief moment, her soft, more timid tone returned to her voice, replacing the joyful bliss that had been there before.
"S-So... What do you s-say, Drizzlepaw? D-Do you want to go h-hunting with me?"

Drizzlepaw watched as her question elicited an unusual amount of excitement from Kindleflare, it was rather out of character for the brightly colored she-cat to show such outward exuberance. Even as she explained her ideas that had gotten her so excited Drizzlepaw didn’t understand, she wasn’t against the idea but couldn’t for the life of her see why Kindle seemed to think it was the greatest thing ever. “That sounds lovely…” She purred out in response to the purr from her friend, it was purely because of Kindleflares purring but she supposed as that the happiness was infectious. Giving herself a gentle shake she made her way gently out the camps entrance before stopping and sitting, “You should lead now, you are the warrior.” She said simply not sure if she should say any more. She twirled around a paw in the dirt waiting for an answer back, she hadn’t even checked to make sure Kindle had actually followed her out.

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
The ginger she-cat rose more slowly than her friend had. She watched with a confused gaze a Drizzlepaw padded on out of camp. Following at a pace that wasn't as accelerated, Kindleflare followed the path on which the apprentice had set out upon, her mind drifting slightly. She couldn't help but wonder what it was that was wrong with her. Why is it that the first cat she ever had feeling for had ended up being the she-cat who would fall for her own brother. Why was her mind always so hung up upon she-cats? For as long as she could remember, she'd never felt that same pull towards toms.
And it wasn't just any she-cat either. Drizzlepaw was just a friend, just like most of the apprentices and new warriors now. It wasn't like she was madly in love with any she-cat that happened to cross her path. What she experienced... It sound just like the 'love' that so many spoke of, finding that special someone. Then why was it that whenever she felt as though she might have found that someone, they were of the same gender as she was? It was a little scary for the she-cat, who couldn't have felt more alone in this world.
Pushing through the entrance to the camp, setting foot upon LightningClan's territory, Kindleflare blinked herself out of her slight daydream, her ears just barely managing to catch Drizzlepaw's words. With a moment's hesitation, the she-cat looked at her friend, almost hurt that their ranks were being brought up again. She didn't like the division it seemed to lift between them. She just wanted to go out hunting with a friend. Was that so much to ask? Glancing at her white paws, the ginger tabby padded past her friend, looking over her shoulder shyly as she spoke, leading the way into LightningClan's territory.
"O-Okay... If you say so, Drizzlepaw..." She wasn't sure where she was going, she just set a path, letting her paws carry her wherever they might please. Admittedly, her mind drifted again, not able to fully concentrate on what she was doing. She was just glad she knew the territory like the pads on her paws now. She was able to maneuver herself over sticks and other obstacles with ease, as though she were really seeing them. After some wandering, the ginger warrior slowed to a stop, glancing about slowly, taking note of where they were.
"Let's stop here..."

It wasn’t before Kindeflare caught up and with an unpleased look, Drizzlepaw assumed she wasn’t a fan of the rank division or her comments about it, but she agreed without saying anything and started to cut a path through the forest. Drizzlepaw followed behind her trying to be as quiet and stealthily as possible, not wanting her clumsy paws to scare off any prey Kindle may be stalking along the way. However as they cut their path and stepped over sticks and around trees it became clear to Drizzlepaw that Kindleflare wasn’t exactly paying attention, her thoughts were obviously elsewhere and it showed heavily in her actions. So when the command to stop was given she pulled up beside her friend and whispered in as soft a voice as she could manage, “Are you alright dear? You seem to be somewhere else…” She gave her a soft nuzzle, “If it’s about the whole leading comment you don’t have to if you don’t want to, we can just forget about the clan and its ways for a while.”

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
Admittedly a little shocked that her friend was able to pick up on her slightly spaced out behaviour, Kindleflare took a moment before answering her. Warm amber eyes were opened wide as she gazed at Drizzlepaw, her surprise written clearly over her features. She hadn't thought that she had been that obvious in her absent-mindedness... She hadn't even tripped at all. How in the name of StarClan did Drizzlepaw pick up on the fact that I wasn't really focused...? The ginger tabby she-cat thought to herself. Slowly, she managed to convince herself to swallow, taking a hesitant step back, as though she were taken aback for a moment.
Clearing her throat and giving her paws an embarrassed shuffle, Kindleflare found her amber-eyed stared focused not upon her friend, but instead, it was pointed at the ground. The warmth of her embarrassment spread all the way across her fur, making her feel far too warm, so much so that it was uncomfortable. "O-Oh... S-Sorry Drizzlepaw... I didn't mean to l-let my mind wander that much... I just... I suppose I have a lot of things on my mind, that's all." Offering her friend a timid smile, Kindleflare decided to breach the other subject.
"I... My rank m-makes me a little nervous I think... I don't like it getting in the way of our friendship, Drizzlepaw... Can't I just be the same she-cat I was a few moons back? I... I haven't changed, have I?" As though the thought of such a thing horrified her, Kindleflare's eyes were once more upon her friend, but they were as wide as the moon when it was full. Her tail froze mid wave, having been caught in a steady pattern brought on by her embarrassment. As she awaited her friend's answer, she couldn't help but feel as though the whole universe had just frozen before her.

Drizzlepaw sat back down and looked deep into her friends eyes, she was trying to discern exactly how upset she was about the whole rank difference problem. The older she-cat couldn’t tell if it was because she was not as confident as other warriors, or if she just didn’t want to look at their relationship different than it ever had been before. She searched her friends words as she spoke and decided they were genuine and was incredibly touched to have a friend that really didn’t think themselves better then her. There had been others but with her spending so much time as an apprentice they all drift away eventually; so taking the opportunity she had before her seriously she decided she need to talk. “W-well… I understand that but my entire life seems to be tied up around my rank. It’s not that I want it to be there and come between us.” She said shifting her gaze to her paws, “I just feel so inferior… to everyone.”

[smear:f78216]Kindleflare[/smear:f3e4d7] ~~~~~~~~~
The young, ginger warrior frowned slightly, troubled by her friend's words. Her ears swivelled back as she focused her warm gaze upon her white paws, drawing little marks in the dirt with her claws. After a moment, she slowly lifted her head once more to focus her stare upon her friend again. She swallowed unsteadily for a moment, unsure of how exactly she could, or rather should word what she was about to say to her friend. She was so shy all the time that she had never really been all that great with words. It was her brother, Nightstep, that had inherited their father's way with words.
Pulling her mind away from her daddy for a moment, Kindleflare told herself that in this moment, Drizzlepaw was the most important cat in the world, and deserved her full attention. Taking a little breath, she stood a little straighter, as though she had found strength in that intake of air. "Y-You should never feel like you are inferior to anyone, Drizzlepaw. Being an apprentice isn't something you should b-be ashamed of. The only one who can make you feel inferior to a-anyone is yourself. And you have no reason t-to feel inferior, you're an a-amazing cat, and friend... Okay?"

Drizzlepaw listend as her friend tried to change her mind about how she felt about herself, however a boat load of kind words from one can, even all the kind words from one cat, wouldn’t change nearly a lifetime of self-esteem issues. So doing her best to try and find words that wouldn’t make her friend think she was just a sour-puss intent on shooting everyone down when they tried to make her feel better. “I don’t believe that at all.” She said sulking not wanting to have a happy feel good moment when it was all lies. “Sure being an apprentice is nothing to be ashamed of your first time. Or for your first 6 moons as an apprentice.” She continued in a down trodden tone, “This is my second time as an apprentice and I’ve spent nearly 30 moons as an apprentice. That’s five times as long as any other cat.”
