Daringheart shook her coat out one last time as she listened to Appleshades next adventure, from the sounds of it medicine. Honey wasn’t at all the type of treasure she had hoped for, to her the treasure had to be beautiful and serve no purpose other than itself. In this way the little items she hunted had to be nearly a form of art, something that was wanted for no real reason other than aesthetics, or smell… or maybe taste. Honey was a rather gorgeous golden color and the taste was something special, it fit the bill if she pushed it out of her mind that it was in fact to be used for a medical purpose. “Lead the way to it.” She said with the tip of her head to her companion signaling it was time to move, and with any luck she wouldn’t have time to think about being medicine with her fighting for her prize.

25 Moons | TreeClan | She-Cat | Warrior
Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
The silver-sorrel feline darted through the trees with ease, having kept relatively quiet so as not to disturb any Clanmates hunting - though she did frighten a vole from it's cache of food by nearly running it over, Appleshade's ears flattening in slight surprise. Pesky rodents. Stopping to track down the runaway morsel was not high on her priorities list. "It's just up ahea-- Oh."
Whereas before Appleshade's posture had displayed surprise, this time she exhibited anxiety, a faint tingle of fear scent mixing in with her otherwise soft, distinctive scent. That smells like badger. Collecting the honey was a bad idea. Then again, if there was a badger living on TreeClan soil, then it was part of their duties as warrior and deputy respectively to alert Lionstar to this unusual turn of events.
Whatever happened, Appleshade wasn't planning on going too much further, the idea of collecting her prize suddenly second place to not alerting the badger in the area to their presence. Sheepish, the warrioress looked to Daringheart for guidance. This day is turning out to be a lot more eventful then either of us planned. What do we do?

The deputy wasn’t far behind Appleshade and she growled inwardly at the fleeing vole, she reminded herself that they needed to bring back some prey for the fresh kill pile or this little trip out of camp would be nothing if not inappropriate. However those thoughts didn’t last as she heard the change in her companions meow, she slowed to a trot until she was beside her and instantly understood what had changed; the smell of badger was strong in the area around their prize and it was more than just fresh it was current. Daringheart gently gripped her companions’ scruff and pulled her behind the cover of a tree and pushed down hoping she would get the idea that they should stay low. “You aren’t much for the whole fighting a badger thing are you?” She didn’t really wait for an answer figuring she already had it, “Well looks like it’s up to me… you’re about to see something really special.” She stood and gave herself a gentle shake as she dropped back into a crouch and stealthily made her way to the fallen honey comb, it wasn’t long before she was there prodding it with her nose. She couldn’t help but hiss softly as she found it ravaged by the badger, just then a lumbering from behind her caused her to jump and turn to face her opponent as the stink of badger became all but overwhelming. Halfway through her turn she caught a heavy clawed paw to her rear end flipping her the rest the way around and just a bit more.

25 Moons | TreeClan | She-Cat | Warrior
Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
There were very few who would ever claim that Appleshade had her priorities in the right order, and it was only those few who could say they truly knew her. All the sparkly things and all the shiny pearls or pebbles in the world would never equate to the life of a Clanmate, and anyone thought her so vain and shallow as to think otherwise clearly didn't know her at all. Of course, she projected a personality that was charming and somewhat glassy, glittering in the sunlight of social settings and enjoying everyone's company, appearing no deeper than their own sparkling brook.
But anyone with half a brain knew that there was always a little more to she-cats than what they presented the Clan with.
For Appleshade, it was her surprising courage that rose to the surface whenever her own kin or friends were in danger; Daringheart was like a sister, and the sorrel-silvery feline would sooner swallow pinecones while walking over hot coals then let anything tragic befall TreeClan's deputy. Snarling, her normally charming, petite features fixed in an expression that was wholly unnatural, the she-cat raced out of her cover to provide Daringheart with back up, having watched in horror as the enormous ugly beast took a hefty swing towards the mottled second-in-command, sending her spinning with one sharp swipe of a claw.
"Over here you big rock-headed lump of fur!"
Her own pelt bristling, Appleshade darted forward like a snake to nip at the back of the badger's leg, trying to distract it and turn it away from Daringheart long enough that she could recover. Great StarClan what am I doing. She had fought in a handful of battles, but she had always been lucky that her opponents were toms whom she had encountered before, or she-cats who were not expecting such a petite little thing such as herself to have as much strength as she did. Never had she encountered an animal who had so much more strength then she did, and could probably crush her skull with little less ease than crushing a berry. Eying the long sharp-looking digging claws the creature was armed with as well as what seemed like rows upon rows of teeth to her panicked mind, Appleshade's courage faltered, her ears pinned back against her skull as she danced away from the badger, not quite regretting her decision to help - only regretting her unwillingness to turn her back on the badger and climb a tree.
That's what they were good at, after all. Her problem with heights was nothing like her problem with dying a bloody, brutal and incredibly painful death.

Daringheart was incredibly upset that she got spanked by the stinky, brutish badger. She of all cats was much too good for that, skill wise and when it came to her status. She didn’t usually think her deputyship granted her any sort of special standing however she knew deep inside she was too good to be spanked. However the anger didn’t last long as the cat she thought might take a more sideline position covered for her and stole the beasts attention, her jaw dropped as she tried to figure out a plan to get them both out of this. Quickly something clicked in her brain and she knew exactly what she needed to do, she leapt up to the beast with its’ back turned and give it a hard nip on the rear end, if that wasn’t enough to get the badgers attention nothing would be able to. Reeling back and spitting for a moment from the bad taste filling her maw she took a second to call to her companion, “Run I’ll cover you so you can back to camp and bring a patrol, I’ll climb a tree and keep it here!”

25 Moons | TreeClan | She-Cat | Warrior
Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
Appleshade's limbs locked in silent protest of Daringheart's plan, her pale yellow eyes wide as the badger immediately turned towards the TreeClan deputy. But if I go-- The warrioress made a hard swallow, every strand of hair on her pelt prickling with unease. "Okay! But be careful Daringheart!" She shouted over the beast's snarling; I'm not running away. I'm not running away. I'm going to get help.
It hurt more than she realized it would to leave Daringheart behind, but Appleshade plowed on, her paws eating up the ground as adrenaline fueled her swift return to camp, the she-cat nearly colliding with her older half-brother and a small group of warriors just about to head on patrol. "Daringheart!" she gasped, tearing up her paws as she dug them into the earth for a hasty halt, body lurching forward due to momentum, lungs desperate for air. "Badger! By the Sparkling Brook!" Normally much more eloquent, her oxygen starved brain could offer nothing more than the necessary information, Appleshade's flanks heaving.
Lionstar quickly told her to get some water before charging out of camp with Zephyrfang, Sixtoes and Barkpaw all keeping pace with him. Rather than stagger off to go find a reliable water source, Appleshade shook herself off and soon fell into a ragged run, unable to just sit here back at camp while her best friend was in danger of losing her life.

Daringheart was pleased as Appleshade didn’t offer up any complaints, confirming their plan quickly the other she-cat tore off to find help to fight off the badger. The deputy couldn’t wish any stronger that she returned with a whole patrol, not that she figured they couldn’t take care of the problem with just a few cats, but rather that with a full patrol it would be less likely there would be any injuries. So with the Badgers’ sight still locked on her she tore off in an attempt to find a tree to climb, praying to starclan that she wouldn’t fall out of this one right into a waiting badgers maw. She found a perfect tree but knew that the enraged beast was right on her tail so without looking back she leapt at the tree and stuck the landing good figuring she was home free as she went to scrabble up the bark, however this wasn’t the case as she felt a powerful paw swat her tail end again sending her tumbling off the tree onto the ground. “Twice!?” She growled to herself displeased that she had been spanked by this badger for a second time; her pride wasn’t swelling at the moment. She knew that wasn’t all the badger planned to do as she looked up with large frightened eyes at the form standing directly over her that was pleased it had found its next meal.

25 Moons | TreeClan | She-Cat | Warrior
Islands, diamonds, trips around the world,
The rescue patrol burst into the charred forest with gusto, Lionstar snarling and darting to Daringheart's side, soot blacking his paws and the tips of his mane, claws unsheathed. "Are you okay, Daringheart?" Said a faint sounding voice from nearby, Appleshade appearing with her tongue lolling, panting.
Oh thank StarClan, she's safe. With only her pride damaged, the TreeClan deputy did indeed look relatively whole, and Appleshade was forever thankful that she had been able to bring help on time. Now just let me sleep for a full moon. Exhausted but not quite out of hot water yet, the she-cat gazed onward, knowing well enough to stay back as the patrol of perfectly healthy warriors took care of the badly outnumbered badger.
The enormous clumbersome animal rose upward on stout hind legs to take a vicious swipe towards their Clan leader's face, and Appleshade flinched back, yellow eyes wide as the aurelian tom feinted left and bit down solidly onto the badger's exposed left hindleg, the creature's snarls rising several octaves due to pain, Lionstar lurching backwards to avoid another wicked swipe of those claws.
Appleshade, meanwhile, was busy praying that the big stupid thing would just run away, realize that it was outnumbered and beat a hasty retreat; it took a few more well-placed but risky bites and scratches to the animal's legs and back, but it did finally lumber off, the patrol left panting and a little drained afterwards, their adrenaline rushes finally slowing down.
Once the soot clouds settled, Appleshade darted forward to press her muzzle into her friend's scruff, once again having to check if she was in one piece - though this frightening badger encounter made falling out of a tree look like a neat trick - this time, no thoughts of sparklies or shiny things or feathers that glistened in the sunlight dared distract her from the severity of the situation.
Just behind her, Lionstar could be heard mewing out a concerned "Are you alright, Daringheart?"

Everything around Daringheart was happening so fast, one moment there was a large badger lumbering towards her preparing to go in for the kill; and the very next that was a large patrol of Tree clan cats fighting it off. It was obvious she was more than a bit shell shocked as she was positive she was about to die, it had only seemed liked moments since Appleshade had left. Somehow she had managed to rouse a patrol of cats in record time to come save the deputy, she was thankful for this as she wasn’t ready to leave this world yet. So as they continued to fight and Lionstar added to the little skirmish the deputy did her best to follow the action but couldn’t it was all in a haze. So as the beast eventually ran off and her friend rushed to meet her she felt like she was far away and was watching the whole series of events through another’s eyes. She moved her gaze to meet her leaders as he asked her about her condition. She wouldn’t speak all he would see is laid back ears and a wide, dilated gaze.

"What happened?" Lionstar repeated, golden eyes flicking from Appleshade's exhausted features onto Daringheart's stunned ones. Obviously they had had trouble with a badger - but what he wanted to know was what had led up to this point, what had suddenly put Daringheart into a situation where she likely would've been killed if Appleshade hadn't bumped into them just as they were leaving.
The rest of the patrol had been sent on ahead to make sure the badger actually left the vicinity of TreeClan's territory, and now that the adrenaline was starting to leave his system, Lionstar could take a breath and get a better understanding of the situation. Appleshade appeared to be unwilling or unable to speak, so the golden tom's sights were returned once more to Daringheart, his deputy - concerned for her well-being as well as suspicious of this entire endeavor.
Daringheart had a knack for getting into trouble sometimes, or as she called it, adventures. There was no way she'd go provoking a badger or ignoring the warning signs, was there?
No, she had more sense than that.
...Right?
