The little calico had been tracing little lines in the snow with her claws. She was only half conscious that she had been doing it. Her mind was elsewhere, occupied with the thoughts of a large torbie tom who went by the name of Gorgelight. She thought about the stutter in his voice, and she wondered what caused it. Her own stutter was rooted to her fear of most others. She had begun to notice that her voice had become a little less broken up by hesitancies as the two of them spoke. It happened so rarely for the little calico… She could hardly remember what she sounded like without the stutter. If she was ever to speak normally again… She truly felt as though it were this tom who would make it happen.
A soft, nagging sadness gripped her suddenly, causing the little smile on her lips to fall. It pulled her heart, weighed it down. Her ears swiveled slightly, and although it could be passed off as a simple gesture of relaxation, the truth was it was something similar to grief. Why was she letting herself fall for him? He was from RainClan, and she, from NightClan. They weren’t meant to be together.
Suddenly, the slightest flutter of hope sparked in her, like that small ray of sunshine peeking through the clouds after a storm. But surely… The fact that they had met at all must have been destiny? StarClan had planned for them to meet… Therefore there must be a way for them to surmount this.
Suddenly… Suddenly she wondered what his fur felt like. She’d seen him a few times now, caught his scent multiple times… But they had never touched, separated by an invisible line on the ground. It seemed so silly… Yet each of them was too hesitant to dare cross that line, even for a brief instant.
The sound of paw steps alerted her to his presence. Her ears pricked up and her head rose quickly, green eyes searching for his form. Her long tail flicked suddenly as she saw him. She wasn’t sure at which point she had gotten to her paws, but she was standing now, a soft purr beginning in her throat. Her eyes widened at the sight of the rabbit. Her vole seemed so… So small now. She stared as he dropped the rabbit, one paw raised in the air.
"T-this ...all ... c-cou ... c-could find" Carefully, she stepped forward as he pushed it towards her. “G-Gorgelight! It’s h-huge!” Her voice broke into a soft giggle and she gave a little bound of excitement. “I f-feel g-guilty now… Th-This rabbit… I d-don’t think I c-can f-finish it m-myself!” She pulled it slightly, looking rather comical as she lowered her body, tail in the air and rump raised, tugging at it. After a moment, she stopped, moving to pick up the vole she had caught him. She carefully placed it at the border, giving it a gentle nudge towards him. “S-Sorry it’s a b-bit small… I-If… If y-you’re s-still hungry a-after… Y-You can have s-some of the r-rabbit you c-caught. It s-smells delicious.. Y-You deserve a reward f-for your work!”
Her face lit up as they spent more and more time together. The fact that he… That he had actually come back sent a thrill through her. So easily, he could have left… But he’d wanted to see her, that’s why he had come back, right? She smiled at him, her small frame looking even smaller before him. But he didn’t scare her. She actually felt rather safe around him.
And suddenly, that urge to just… Reach out and touch him, just once came back… Echobreeze was left blinking hopefully at Gorgelight, praying that he wouldn’t mind anything she had just said. And praying she didn’t do anything stupid.

Alone on a hill, The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still But nobody wants to know him, They can see that he's just a fool, And he never gives an answer, GORGELIGHT Amber orbs watched the other worldly she-cat unfold. Every move she made, from the slightest movement of her chest to the blinking of her beautiful green eyes instilled a sense of warmth and wonder through the fluffy tom's pelt. Everything Echobreeze did amazed Gorgelight in a way that no other cat could -- her beauty, her gracefulness, and heart towards all things were unchallenged by any living creature. Echobreeze was a StarClan cat, here to light the way through his sorry existence.
It was with this marvel in viewing the pretty NightClanner that caused Gorgelight such shock when she spoke, complimenting him on the size of his prey. Me? A mere mortal? Gorgelight asked inwardly and gave the calico a happy, yet someone uncertain and dazed smile. Electricity danced its way up his fluffy pelt and made him bristle very slightly. '“I f-feel g-guilty now… Th-This rabbit… I d-don’t think I c-can f-finish it m-myself! ' Echobreeze stuttered and the RainClanner's ears pricked forwards, words coming forth like a waterfall, unrestrained and free. "S-so ... s-sorry. I-I c-can ... c-cat -tsch s-someet-thing ellz" Gorgelight forced out and his gaze lingered only for a moment on the NightClanner before pulling away to view the territory behind him. Gorgelight sought only to make the she-cat happy with him, his means were not at all selfish. 'S-Sorry it’s a b-bit small… I-If… If y-you’re s-still hungry a-after… Y-You can have s-some of the r-rabbit you c-caught. It s-smells delicious.. Y-You deserve a reward f-for your work!' Echobreeze continued, offering him the vole she had caught him and any rabbit that was left over from her meal. While her words were kind, the tom did not necessarily agree simply because his morals momentarily kicked in. He had caught the rabbit from Echobreeze's land -- it was her prey and the torbie tom figured that NightClan had been left as weak from lack of prey as his own clan. Taking more than what was equal between them was unfair to the RainClanner.
But he said nothing. Not because he decided that it was ok for her to steal from NightClan but simply because Gorgelight did not think he could synthesize the words to express the complex idea. Small talk was hard enough for the tom, save for complex discussions about right and wrong. Instead, the tom dipped his head down to eat at the prey. After taking a few flavorful mouthfuls, the tom viewed Echobreeze to make sure that she was eating as well.
"M-My fuh ... favorite. T-thanks," Gorgelight meowed simply and brushed his fluffy tail against her shoulder in thanks and as means to make connections. And he never listens to them He knows that they're the fools

When the RainClan tom ducked his head to start eating the vole she'd caught him, the little NightClanner did the same, bending to bite into the rabbit Gorgelight had brought her. Her excitement and enjoyment was shown through the purr that rumbled from her quietly as she chewed on the white rabbit. She only hoped the vole she'd given Gorgelight was as delicious as this.
"M-My fuh ... favorite. T-thanks," Echobreeze looked up at the tom as he spoke, green eyes blinking at him as her tongue swiped over her lips. It was right about then that she felt something brush her shoulder, understanding that it was his tail. She was aware that every instinct in her tiny body should have been screaming at her to run, run and never looked back. No one touched her these days. Ever. She couldn't handle it. Any touch would cause her to flinch back and scramble away.
But she didn't move. Didn't wince. She just purred as she glanced up at him. Her shoulder burned with heat, but it wasn't unpleasant. It was a fire that rushed through her, warmed her whole frame, and caused her to shuffle her paws in slight embarrassment. Still, she did not move away. Instead, she rose to her paws, carefully stepping around the rabbit, paws stepping right up to the border. She stayed on her side, but just barely. Had her claws been unsheathed, they would have been in RainClan territory.
The little she-cat craned her neck, probably looking rather comical, but she continued, concentrating hard. And then, she did it. Her little nose, split in half by two colors, gently poked his shoulder.
With that single touch, she was gone, back on her side and by the rabbit, offering him a timid smile. Had she been a human, her cheeks would have been redder than a tomato. "My pleasure, G-Gorgelight... Thank you f-for this rabbit. It's d-delicious!"
With that, she ducked her head in her embarrassment, occupying herself with nibbling on the rabbit. She only hoped that she hadn't just scared off the tom. If it so happened that she had, she would never forgive herself. She wasn't sure if it would be the same way for all contact with the tom, but she hadn't minded his touch. She hadn't minded reaching out to touch him. If she had gone and thrown that all away...
StarClan help her.

Gorgelight's pelt was still burning after his momentary contact with the pretty NightClan she-cat when he returned to eating at his vole. The tom bit at it, enjoying the taste, but felt his green-amber eyes drifting over to watch Echobreeze's every move every time he chewed. The tom found everything about Echobreeze to be completely enchanting -- from the way her chest rose and fell to the way she spoke to the way she blinked. Despite the she-cat's shyness, Gorgelight found everything about the NightClanner to be perfect. Gorgelight's feelings for the calico were so intense that he thought that there was no way that the she-cat could possibly feel the same way about him. Anyways, Gorgelight knew that he was a bulky, awkward nobody. Not like a StarClanner on earth, like her.
Echobreeze rose to her paws while Gorgelight worked at a particularly stringy piece of the prey. His eyes, for a moment, focused away from the pretty features of the warrioress. The cold and wet touch of Echobreeze's nose took the tom by surprise. Her moves had been quick and rushed -- in and out. Gorgelight's head instantly shot up to watch the she-cat, who had returned back to where her prey had remained, smiling at him. All surprise that had resulted from Echobreeze's little touch was gone from him at the sight of Echobreeze's smile. The tom could only offer the same awkward sort of smile in return, lighting up his features. The smile she gave him almost made the tom wonder if she had actually touched him or if her touch had simply been his imagination and desires gone wild. Gorgelight's green eyes moved up and down her petite features and, though he questioned it, he knew what they had was real.
'"My pleasure, G-Gorgelight... Thank you f-for this rabbit. It's d-delicious!' Echobreeze exclaimed in a bumpy, yet clearly pleased tone. The RainClanner's small, timid smile became brighter at her words. "I-I'm glad y-you li-like it," the tom choked out tail swishing and eyes glancing down at her half- eaten rabbit. She then returned to eat at her present. An exciting, glowing sort of warmth filled the RainClan tom's belly as he watched Echobreeze munch at the rabbit he had given her. It was a great feeling for the dark mottled tom to know that he had done something to help the beautiful calico before him survive and grow. Echobreeze had been hungry and he had been capable of providing it to her. Gorgelight, for a few moments, did not eat his vole. The tom was transfixed by the multi-colored goddess before him and he felt that even watching Echobreeze tear at the flesh of the dead rabbit was graceful and stirring. The tom's angry belly was what alerted the tom to the fact that he had only taken a few bites of Echobreeze's gift to him. The tom dipped his large head and took careful bites of his kill, attempting to appear as clean and attractive as possible while eating. Seeming appealing to the she-cat while eating the mess was somewhat challenging for the ruddy tom and as he ate, the tom's mind wandered. I wonder if this vole tastes so good because Echobreeze caught it? the tom asked himself, chewing the tasty catch and green eyes watching the petite warrioress.
What came over the russet tom next was a huge leap beyond commonplace awkwardness and stuttering. The dark tom could not possibly explain the motivation behind his actions to the she-cat -- only that he was suddenly overcome with such a feeling of happiness that it exploded out of him, wordless. Gorgelight crossed the RainClan-NightClan border and moved forward to nuzzle the NightClanner lovingly.

Echobreeze ~~~~~~ You know that moment where you’re caught in a dream, and you hope and pray that it won’t be shattered into a million pieces by a nightmare? Echobreeze was living that moment. Everything seemed just perfect to the timid little NightClan warrior. In front of her was a tom she couldn’t get out of her mind. She was so close to him… The only down side to this whole situation was that invisible little border, seemingly insignificant, but so powerful all in the same instant. She could live with it, however. It didn’t bother her that much. As long as she got to see him, scent him, feel him nearby… She was happy.
"I-I'm glad y-you li-like it," Her purr was clear at his words, and her smile, soft, genuine and angelic. She couldn’t have been happier. Her body was filled with a heat she’d never felt before, a sense of pure joy at her current situation. She was busy picking away at the rabbit, green gaze occasionally flicking up to take a peek at him, to renew that sense of joy she felt. She saw him move, but didn’t think much of it. Not at first anyway.
She wondered what he was doing, what he was planning to do, and had her mouth not been full she would have asked him. She chewed silently, swallowing just as he stepped across the border between their Clans. Her green eyes stretched wide, flashing from his paws to his face in an instant. However, she would not be able to see his face for much longer, as he was suddenly right there, nuzzling her. Her first reaction was surprise. She stood there, paws frozen to the spot. Slowly, it dissipated, leaving her with a warm feeling, shown by her soft purr.
And then instinct took over.
Terror washed over her and her purring was torn to an abrupt halt. Every muscle in her body tensed almost to the point where it was painful and she shrunk back, paws dragging through the snow as she all but leapt away from Gorgelight. For a moment she couldn’t breathe, and she stood there, staring wide-eyed at him. And then came a stuttering apology.
“G-Gorge-l-light I-I’m s-sor-rry I-I’m n-not… I c-can’t… I’m n-not ready f-for that y-yet… M-My p-past…” She whispered softly, her green eyes slowly moving up from where they had drifted to, back to his face.
She hated herself. Hated herself for not being able to tolerate a touch that big, not even from him. She wanted to feel his touch, but she couldn’t handle it. How messed up was that?

[smear:3366CC]Echobreeze[/smear:ffffff] ~~~~~~~ The little calico was convinced she'd just ruined everything. Her ears were tilted back slightly as she gazed up at him, feeling as though her heart were just about ready to tear itself in two. Why did she have to have such an issue with others initiating touches? She wanted to feel Gorgelight's fur against hers, she was sure. And yet, the moment he'd approached her, crossing the border to do so, she'd panicked, let instincts take over, and had possibly just shattered everything. She wouldn't be surprised if he never wanted to see her again. It would hurt her, but she'd understand.
As the tom began to stammer out a reply, Echobreeze's ears came up slowly, turning to focus on the fragmented words. It didn't bother her how distorted they came out. It didn't matter to her if she had to think to figure out just what he was trying to say. The important thing, to her, was that he was trying, and he was speaking. And even if his voice was as broken as it was now, she still wanted to hear him. She waited patiently as he himself apologized, which was a little bizarre to her. She had been the one to overreact, hadn't she? Why was he apologizing? Still, she pushed it aside, deciding there were more important matters to attend to.
"I d-don't kn-know why you are ap-pologizing... I d-don't think you h-have anything to b-be sorry f-for... But... It's okay. Wh-Whatever it is, I forgive you." She smiled shyly at him, her soft green eyes peeking up at him briefly. She glanced back towards her paws, shuffling them for a moment. She noticed that the wind had begun to pick up slightly, the breeze ruffling her pelt. It was brining scents from within the NightClan border towards them. It was with a sudden start that she realized it was carrying another cat's scent. Strawberrypaw.
Her head shot up suddenly, and she locked gazes with Gorgelight for a moment. "G-Gorgelight... S-Someone's c-coming! Y-You should g-go before they find you! B-But... I-I know w-what happened not too long ago w-was a little s-silly... A-And I'm s-sorry I am n-no good with o-others touching m-me... B-But w-why don't..." She took a careful, hesitant step towards him, her paw crossing the border slightly. "Why don't w-we s-start w-w... With this?" She gently touched her nose to his, pausing for a moment to relish in the warmth she felt.
Soon, she stepped back, back across the border, watching him with a worried gaze as she glanced over her shoulder. "Now qu-quick.. R-Run. I'll t-try to distr-ract the o-other c-cat. And..." She hesitated slightly, half way through tugging the remains of the rabbit farther into NightClan's territory, to bring it back. She hadn't finished it, and figured someone else could. She glanced at him shyly, moments before she managed to tug the rabbit he'd caught her into the bushes, disappearing from sight.
"I h-hope w-we meet a-again..."
