Description Summary:
Personality:
--- Impulsive, self-interested, impatient, impractical, non-committal.
Over the years, Cloudflight has earned... well... a bit of a reputation among the cats of his Clan. This tom has a well-known fondness for the opposite sex, and an equally well-noted inability to keep a relationship going for more than a few moons at a time. He's a bit of a player all in all, being an eloquent tom who is well aware of his charms and effect his words tend to have on the pretty young she-cats about the Clan. He is a restless tom who likes to go his own way and can't stand to be smothered or tied down, which somewhere down the line invariably results in conflict, but it ought to be noted that he is not incapable of genuine love towards a she-cat. Sure, there are times when all he’s interested in is a warm body beside his own at night, but he can also be surprisingly sincere and very much a romantic when the mood so strikes him. A relationship in the long term might be possible, but the she-cat in question would have to respect his need for freedom and movement.
It is perhaps worth noting that, although his working relationships with the females in question... often understandably turn sour once their romantic attachment has ended, Cloudflight is very mindful of any kits that may have resulted from the encounter. It may come as a surprise to some, but the pale tomcat is a doting father - or at least he is so long as the mothers will let him have anything to do with them - and has been known to visit them frequently when his warrior duties allow him the time. It just goes to show that while such things have a tendency to follow him around, Cloudflight is not just a walking hub of relationship drama. In general he is confident and outgoing, generous and capable as a warrior, and in general just a very likeable cat when he’s not trying to get into anyone’s figurative pants.
He does have his flaws. His indiscretions have been many and varied over the course of his life, and he is self-admittedly a stubborn and argumentative fellow once he sets his mind to something. He has a deep and abiding love for intelligent discussion, and has demonstrated a love of debate and occasionally playing devil’s advocate for the sake of conservation. Observant and understanding of others deeper natures, he can sometimes border on the manipulative without even realising it... luckily for the rest of us that he considers himself a cat of integrity and would never intentionally use this skill on a Clanmate. In fact, he strongly condemns any kind of fraud or dishonesty from other cats. He is a moralistic and ethical sort by nature, and would never do anything that he considered to be Morally Wrong. Cloud has a strong sense of duty and honour to his Clan as well, and will hold others to the same high standards he holds himself.
Cloud may be something of a fireball with commitment issues and a libido that has a mind of its own, but he is focused and has a very clear set of goals and dreams in mind, that he is determined to reach in future or die in the attempt. He does try to be as kind and sensitive to others as possible, but ultimately believes in self-realisation; his thought process when going through with something controversial can mostly be summed up as follows: ''I want to do something... but it might make so-and-so mad... but I want to do it, so I will. Oh no, did I hurt so-and-so's feelings when I did that? I never wanted that to happen. D:'' He can come across as a bit detached from the common man... or cat, so to speak, and there are times when his head is stuck in the clouds. He does, however, have his feet more or less firmly on the ground. He is most definitely a goal-oriented cat, who can make fast and firm decisions and doesn't hesitate to do what he feels needs to be done, although he does like to know the facts before he goes in with figurative guns a-blazing. Cloudflight feels very strongly about things that matter to him, and uses that conviction in practically everything he does.[/ul]
History:
Wormcreek grew to admire his student's fire and autonomy, though, much as Cloudpaw came to appreciate his mentor's tenacity and strength. Theirs was a grudging respect at first, that eventually blossomed into genuine fondness and a strong bond of friendship. It was through Wormcreek that Cloudpaw eventually met Heronpaw, the apprentice of Hawkblaze, who had himself been Wormcreek's apprentice many moons prior. Heron was a rather stoic blue tom, not showing much of his emotions beyond mild annoyance, but for some reason or another he took a shine to Cloudpaw and the two became close as blood relatives over time. Heronpaw might have been three moons younger than his friend at the time, but he still had the tendency of taking on the role of an over-protective, lovingly exasperated older brother.
As they grew and were given more responsibilities and privileges within the Clan, Cloud and Heron could frequently be found far afield of the camp, and more than once this led them into trouble. It was usually nothing they couldn't get out of themselves, and even after an incident where Cloud almost got stuck in the flooded grasses they rarely told anyone about their misadventures, but one day the two got in far over their heads while out on patrol. They wandered much too close to a fox den, where a vixen had hidden her young, and the furious mother attacked them right away. Heronpaw took the worst of the blows in his attempt to keep Cloudpaw out of harm's way, and while the two eventually escaped from the vixen, Heron was grievously wounded and only just managed the journey back to camp. He was bustled off to the medicine cat's den, and Cloudpaw questioned, though they couldn't get much out of him until he'd been given the news that his friend was still among the living.
Cloudpaw remained by his friend's side for some time, until Heron finally snapped at him to stop being an idiot, it wasn't like he was going to die or anything, and Cloud getting himself all worked up about nothing wasn't doing any good to either of them. If he was going to sit and mope about how he should have done more, why didn't he make himself useful and go catch a rabbit or two for the fresh-kill pile? Cloudpaw was shocked at first, but eventually saw the younger apprentice's point. He could still visit his friend and wish him well, but moping around was only making them both feel worse. So Cloud took to doing various odd jobs about the camp and did his best to stay out of trouble - for Heron's sake. It was about this time, however, that the white apprentice basically hit cat puberty... and then all bets were off.
All of a sudden, he became very interested in a she-cat by the name of Rushpaw, trailing after the older apprentice it was rumoured would be receiving her warrior name any day now. She treated him with good humour but made her feelings on the matter clear; Cloudpaw was mewing up the wrong tree. Her current beau, however, a newly appointed warrior by the name of Lioneyes did not see the funny side and was not so accepting of this cocky young apprentice sniffing around his future mate. Cloudpaw backed off - after all, Rushpaw had explicitly told him she wasn't interested - but continued to antagonise Lioneyes in other ways just to show him he wouldn't be spoken to that way, warrior or not. Things very nearly became violent between the two, before Rushpaw and Wormcreek intervened; his mentor cursing up a storm, Rushpaw admonishing her beau for letting his temper get the best of him, and what reason did he have to be jealous of an apprentice anyway?
Things cooled off after that, Cloudpaw beginning to focus more on his training again after Heron was back on his feet, and at thirteen moons he was made a full warrior and given the name of Cloudflight. Heron joined him some moons later at fifteen, his progress impeded some by the time he spend under the medicine cat's watch. Around that time, Cloud entered into a short-lived relationship with a she-cat by the name of Sharpstone, which basically fell flat on its face before it even got out of the starting gate. Cloudflight genuinely had feelings for her, but she became unnecessarily jealous of a passing friendship with another female... and it genuinely was unnecessary, his gaze hadn't even begun to wander at that point. Eventually after one shouting match too many, he ended it. She cussed him out and generally reacted poorly, but left him alone in the end, which he was rather thankful for.
At eighteen moons, he met a she-cat by the name of Ashflower, and while he felt little for her emotionally speaking, there was enough of a physical attraction to go on. Not two moons later, she was carrying his kits. Unexpected, but surprisingly not entirely unwelcome. Cloud didn't have anything against the concept of a family, probably helped by the communal nature of childrearing in the Clans. This thing between him and Ashflower, though, was going to hell in a hand-basket pretty fast. The two had a series of fall-outs, and eventually Cloudflight just threw in the towel completely. He would attempt to keep contact with the kits, if Ash would let him, but whatever kind of ''relationship'' they'd had was officially done. So soon enough the tom was back to his old ways, flirting up a storm with all the pretty ladies and not making too many friends among the toms, and before too much time passed he was quite infamous in the community for his ways.
At twenty turns he took his first apprentice, a young male by the name of Crimsonpaw. Crim was not the smartest of cats, but endearing in his earnest nature and his desire to right all the wrongs of the world. Three moons following their first meeting, a Gathering was called and it was there that Cloudflight met a RainClan she-cat named Dewstep. She was a flirtatious and daring sort of cat, and because they did not have the excuse of their clans sharing a border much of their stolen moments included some measure of sneaking about and a few close calls. Heron, ever the faithful friend looking out for his wellbeing, did not approve. What was Cloudflight even thinking with this, was he trying to get himself killed, the mouse-brained twit? How was he planning to juggle this... dalliance... with a new apprentice and his duties to the Clan? That last question gave Cloud pause, for even if he was ridiculously cavalier about his own safety, he was ever dutiful to his clan and resented the implication that he was forsaking his responsibilities for a bit of fun on the side.
It was enough to get him to cut back on his sneaking around with the RainClan beauty, but not to stop seeing her entirely. It was her that broke it off with him, eventually, citing that her clanmates were becoming suspicious - not least among them her dear brother and apprentice Raggedpaw - and it would be for the best if they just didn't see each other after that night. Cloudflight mourned for a short while, he'd been honestly rather fond of Dewstep and of course it hurt to be the one on the receiving end of her rejection, but it wasn't long before he picked himself up again and, to Heron's relief, refocused on training Crimsonpaw and flirting with she-cats that wouldn't get him killed if they were caught by a passing patrol. Several moons would pass before Cloud's next big venture, but there was a unusual build-up to the whole thing. Generally, the white tom knew what he wanted and went for it, and most of the she-cats he dallied with went in with full knowledge of his reputation and that their time together would be nothing serious or intended to last beyond a few moons at most. This time around, however, things turned out differently.
The kits didn't come as a surprise; they had spoken about such things and Dovesong was quite clearly enamoured with the idea of having a family someday, but when the day came that Cloudflight was ready to move on to pastures new the queen seemed genuinely hurt. It didn't occur to him that she might have thought of this as something real, and the realisation that he was hurting another cat with his actions confused and unsettled him quite deeply. He would maintain a relationship with their kits, as he had before, but it was difficult to pinpoint exactly what made him want to stand by Dovesong. He wouldn't have said it was guilt; possibly the fact that the queen had done nothing wrong, it was nothing she had said or done to drive him away... this was all on him. Dovesong forgave him and to this day the two maintain a working relationship that is something close to friendly, but Cloud had made at least one enemy in the form of Sleetshine, Dove's sister. It... probably didn't help matters at all that he had once attempted to proposition her as well, though their personalities had clashed so much that it went down like a lead balloon the same day it was proposed.
Most recently, Cloudflight has been focusing on developing a bond with this latest litter of kits he sired and continuing to guide his no-longer apprentice through the minefield that is adult life in the Clans. Heron is a great help at keeping him focused as always, but occasionally some pretty she-cat will cross his path and he'll slip right back into his old ways again. Perhaps it's a habit he won't ever grow out of; time will tell, of course.
