[attr="class","robin-content"]Last night’s storm had seemed to roar with the remnants of Lionstar’s spirit. As the sun rose over the gleaming orange and yellow tree tops, a warmth settled over the forest that was unusual for this late into the season. It didn’t take long for the puddles formed by the rains to begin to evaporate, but it was still slightly damp out as Robinflight made her way to the apprentice’s den. It was the first time she’d even gone there since she’d gotten her own warrior name. Poking her head inside, she squinted, trying to make out the short-tailed brown tom who had become her very first pupil. “Harepaw?” She whispered quietly into the shadows. Peregrinepaw rolled over in her sleep with a groan. Robinflight had decided to wait until the day after the ceremony to bring her apprentice out on his first training session, considering Lionstar’s vigil had caused her and many others to lose a lot of sleep.
When the chocolate tabby finally roused and joined her outside, she beckoned with her tail for him to follow her out into the territory. The warm sunlight dappled on her multi-coloured coat as she stepped out of camp, the air smelling of promise. She led him through the territory that he did not yet fully know, her red and white tail beckoning him through the undergrowth. “Today, I’m going to teach you how to hunt.” She promised brightly. “Providing for your Clan is one of the most important parts of being a warrior. No matter what the season, you’ll have to know where to find prey and how to catch it, so that TreeClan doesn’t go hungry.” The calico halted at the edge of the wildflower meadows, and though fewer flowers grew here around this season, it was still a popular spot for field mice and rabbits to forage. She crouched low, beckoning her new apprentice to do the same. She felt a twinge of doubt in her heart. Was she really doing the right thing in bringing him here? Should she have taken him to the hidden thicket to practice his stalking first?
“This is the Wildflower Clearing.” She whispered, nodding to the swaying grasses. “You’ll find a rabbit warren here, though we won’t be hunting those today. Those are a little too ferocious for you to tackle on your first hunt.” She warned. “They will defend themselves by kicking, scratching and biting if they can’t outrun you.” She kept her voice low, not wanting to disturb any prey that might be out among the grass. “Right, Harepaw. First, I’ll show you how to find prey, then how to stalk it, and how to kill it.” She met his gaze steadily. “Ready?”
