Relying heavily on the pawsteps before her, Owlfrost navigated the trails back to camp slowly at first, gaining confidence the less powdery snow covered the ground to the point she was able to trot home. Much like her father, Owlfrost enjoyed the cold but not when the snow clung to her forepaws in annoying and sometimes painful clumps, which meant she needed several hours in a warm den to free her fur of the frozen trip hazards. The first powdery of snow was often the worst. Unlike the later more compact snow in the latter days of leafbare, this snow loved to attach itself to every longhaired cat's feathers.

Once free from the soft false-sense of security the snow offered, Owlfrost joined up with her denmates for a moment. They had only just returned from a patrol and hunger now called to her and rightly so. She hadn't eaten in several hours and working her body through the cold day meant she worked harder, built up a hunger.

Her attention shifted to the fresh-kill pile. Unimpressed by the meager tower, Owlfrost found herself until to take food from such a mound. They were a large clan, having been for several seasons. As the numbers grew, so did their need for food, Owlfrost could not will herself to take from the pile, and thus her hunger was forcibly ignored.

Parting with a flick of her tail and heading in the direction of the apprentice den. Owlfrost peaked her head into the warm faintly nursery-smelling den to call for her new apprentice.

"Pebbelpaw, join me, its time to get some prey," She spoke to the darkness of the apprentice den, waiting for either answer or news that her apprentice was elsewhere.

Pebblepaw

The thick scent if prey, the thundering of paws slapping wettily against snow graced ground, followed by the shrill if a voice calling his name, fading into darkness. It was the latter thing more than the former that had Pebblepaw's eyes flickering open. Those light blue and clearly sleep filled glaze of his swept around his surroundings with a quick precise flick. Familiarity of where he was and where he wasn't came to him immediately and the apprentice let out a small huff of bread before a yawn flooded out to his open maw.

He had been an apprentice for a day or so now though the ceremony was nothing but a dull memory by this point. All he could remember was the excitement of having been able to make a nest in the apprentice's den next to his brother and to be away from his mother's ever so watchful eyes. He would become a warrior and that's all that mattered. Ears twitched soundly, taking in the mew from the den's entrance, averting his attention from his own thoughts. He recognized the voice of his mentor, Owlfrost, when he had first met at the ceremony. She had mentioned, about finding prey?

His stomach responded with a soft grumbling in an effort to state that he was hungry and that it was possibly a good idea to do it. With the season of change, it would definitely help the clan. Without another thought of the matter, the apprentice carefully shifted himself out of the den He was eye to eye with his mentor a moment later. "I'm awake Owlfrost, let's get going!" He mewled with an excited lit to his voice. He could only wonder if his brother would have just as much as excitement as he would.
