NachoAPPEARANCE
When Dawnlight was born, he was the biggest of Darkstar’s litter, and his birth caused the loss of Darkstar’s second life. Curiously however, Dawnlight grew the most slowly of his siblings after birth, and within a few short moons he became the smallest. The little tom who showed much promise in the beginning certainly doesn’t quite chock up to expectations now. As a kit, Dawnlight remained much smaller than his siblings, and though his fur - long and thick - made him look a little bit bigger, one would only have to tussle with him or nudge his flank and they’d see just how little muscle and bulk was actually holding him up. His ginger and white fur remained kitten-soft a good length into his apprenticeship as well, and it took a lot of rough training sessions for him to toughen up. Now, however, he has finally grown to the size of his brother and father.
Dawnlight’s fur contains the colors of his namesake - the gentle, orangey hue of a day beginning, and the perfectly white clouds that scatter across the horizon. The ginger he undoubtedly gets from his mother, Darkstar, whose dark tortoiseshell coat was patched with the same shade. The pure white that sprouts from his chest and brightens his paws comes from his father Frostjaw; and it goes without saying that he gets the thick, long-haired pelt from his father as well. His pale green eyes come from neither of his parents, a trait completely his own, though upon closer inspection, one can see darker orange flecks within.
PERSONALITY
POSITIVES
+ Empathetic, Driven, Altruistic, Direct, Observant, Serious, Reserved.
NEGATIVES
- Impulsive, Anti-social, Literalist, Impatient, Anxious, Volatile, Sensitive.
Dawnlight, even from the very beginning, is surprisingly complicated. He has a lot on his shoulders, and it shows. From the start, Dawnlight is shown as being a very driven young cat, as he attempts to live up to the expectations his parents have for him, along with knowledge that his siblings are several steps ahead of him in practically every way. He was born the biggest in his litter, but what should have been a healthy kit turned out to have several complications. Dawnlight is much smaller than his siblings to start with, and is quite prone to illness, usually the first to catch whatever’s going around. He will not grow into himself physically for a long time, and as such, he feels even more determined to make up for his lack of physique by trying to excel in other areas. Unfortunately, he seems to fall short every single time.
The young tom finds it incredibly difficult to socialize with others, struggling to make friendships, and usually only managing to come off as awkward, sullen, or shy. He will sometimes say the wrong thing, mostly because he doesn’t seem to understand unspoken rules or expectations. He falls easily for tricks and ploys, making him seem unintelligent, when the opposite is true. Overall, Dawnlight can’t help but be anti-social at times, simply because he feels most comfortable by himself. He is also a literalist, taking everything at face value, and gets irritated by idioms and turns of phrase even after learning the meanings. He prefers that others be as direct as he is. In the future, Dawnlight will loathe Gatherings, and will try his best to get out of them. After attending his first Gathering, he’ll find he’s extremely averse to crowds, and can get easily overwhelmed and overstimulated.
Because Dawnlight is so determined to impress his parents and excel in some way, he can be rather impulsive, doing things he doesn’t really think through, and later suffering the consequences for it. While he doesn’t think things through when it comes to his actions, he does a lot of overthinking with his emotions. Dawnlight is a highly emotional and sensitive individual, and is driven almost entirely by what he feels. He has a difficult time regulating his emotions, which can make him seem volatile and unpredictable, but he truly means well, and always expresses remorse and shame for any outbursts. He is extremely empathetic as well, and feels deeply for others—even those in other Clans, and will not hesitate to help anyone in need.
This brings us to Dawnlight’s most significant positive traits. He is, to his core, altruistic and believes in doing the right thing. He has a very strong moral compass, and knows very keenly what’s right and what’s wrong, but this can also bring him a lot of conflict, especially when it comes to loyalty to his family. Knowing his family’s morals can sometimes be far more flexible than his own, he will struggle between loyalty to his kin and doing what he knows is right. He can be very contemplative about this, and thus is a very serious young cat.
Because of his black and white morality/mindset, Dawnlight is able to be very direct and honest with others, and isn’t afraid to say what he really thinks—because he simply would not lie. Dawnlight is also a very apt student, possessing a deep interest in learning new things, especially when it comes things that would require someone to be observant, because he is very much so. Dawnlight is very keen, and can often read others as if they’re books, guessing what they’re thinking or what they’re about to do with shocking accuracy. Some will call him a mind-reader, but he just dryly asserts that any logical cat would come to the same conclusion as he. Dawnlight loves observing things in this way, and might sometimes find out things he maybe shouldn’t, but one can rest assured Dawnlight would probably die with just about anyone’s secret, being very guarded. At the same time, these observations make him a superb hunter, and a capable fighter. Where his physique will fail him, Dawnlight will be able to often predict his opponent’s move, but it makes him a more defensive fighter than an offensive fighter; he can hold his own, but he won’t send anyone yowling with their tail between their legs. However, he will find a lot of difficulty in mastering fighting moves because he doesn’t have good control of his fine motor skills, and will be found practicing during the day sometimes just to try to nail the movements.
Finally, Dawnlight is a very powerful believer in StarClan, thanks to Frostjaw’s teachings. Interestingly, his faith revolves more around morality and his obsession with it than with his father’s teachings specifically, almost as if he felt inspired by his father initially, but made his faith his own. He believes everything happens for a reason, and firmly believes the only reason StarClan allows him to be knocked down so often is because they’re confident he’ll be able to get back up, and that he’ll be stronger for it. As time goes on, this belief will be challenged, especially when things get more and more difficult for him, and he’ll find it harder and harder to get back up.

-- kithood.
Dawnkit is born the first in his litter, and he is the biggest at birth between all of his siblings. His arrival rips a life out of Darkstar, and while she dies, Dawnkit is struggling to live—for he’s not breathing when he comes into the world. It takes a lot of work, but eventually the kit sucks in his first breath of air… and he lives. He is named for his distinctive ginger-and-white coat, reminiscent of a cloudy dawn sky, and at first his future looks quite promising, despite his violent entrance into the world. He is the biggest kit, and he should be the strongest.
Unfortunately, Dawnkit does not grow much bigger in size throughout his kithood, and his siblings quickly overtake him as they grow. He becomes the smallest in his litter suddenly, and is frail and sickly to boot. When whitecough begins circulating through the Clan, Dawnkit is one of the first to catch it, and it will be this way throughout his life as well—he’s simply more susceptible to getting sick than others.
It will also become plain to his parents that aside from his physique, there’s something else off about their eldest kit. He’s averse to social interaction, but particularly with groups; he has a hard time disguising when he’s upset, and his face is an open book for his emotions; he doesn’t understand concepts that shouldn’t need to be explained, and needs direct, clear instructions. At the same time, he seems to enjoy being by himself and quietly observing others, and never fails any challenge of simple logic or questions of morality, being very introspective. Cats do not have a word for the mental challenges Dawnkit faces and will continue to face, but he does have a mild case of autism, and will mask it through his life. When overwhelmed, he’ll find control and comfort through stimming, usually repeatedly doing gentle digging movements with his front paws. It’s not unusual for one to find a dent in the ground where his front paws were, just from working them there over and over. He tries not to make it obvious (thus, gentle digging), but he’s also not totally aware he’s even doing it sometimes.
When he’s eventually apprenticed, he will likely need a patient mentor who can hold Dawnkit back when he needs it, but also not hold back on him. He doesn’t want to be known as Darkstar’s weakest kit, and he’s more than willing to put in the work to be just as strong as his siblings.
