Greenleaf 25, 7
The rain subsides, and various water sources are now full to the brim if not bursting their banks. The night promises to be clear: careful when traveling to tonight's gathering.
Darkstar led her patrol of Clanmates to the Gathering proudly, every one of them bearing sleek pelts thanks to a prosperous Greenleaf season. Any trace of the war with TreeClan had vanished, healed as well as the scars hidden beneath her fur. No border skirmishes over the past season that TreeClan had held the Deer Path meant their truce was holding well. Allowing her warriors to disperse among the other four Clans, she made her way over to the leaders’ perch, bunching her muscles before leaping gracefully onto the boulder. She had recovered quickly after losing her second life to her kitting, and though very few knew she’d lost a life at all, she was more determined than ever to appear as the powerful leader she’d committed herself to be. She would never accept anything less of herself. Darkstar took her seat at the tip of the boulder, amber eyes revealing nothing as she watched the Clans mingling below her.
Attending: Darkstar, Clovermask, Smokefur, Shadowchaser, Cricketchirp, Frostjaw, Mousepaw, Breezepaw, Baypaw, Rainfur (NPC), Thornscar (NPC), Ghostshadow (NPC)
Redstar waited patiently as Owlmind gathered the cats that they had selected to attend the gathering, and upon her signal the leader lead the way as they departed for the meeting of their peers. The rain had stopped just in time for said event, however the precipitation was far from just a memory. A safety brief had been given just in case standing water, or moving water, turned out to be a hazard. Luckily the party would arrive at their destination without incident. Redstar took his place with the other leaders and wondered if they had anything more interesting to share than he.
Attending with him: Owlmind, Kindleflare, Maplepaw, Skypaw, Batear, Emberheart, Ruset-tail, Mudpelt (NPC), Eaglescreech (NPC), Ivypelt (NPC)
Time was moving forward again, and the valley changed around him. He, his clan, and his family changed and grew and became more and less. Dewfrost sought an apprentice, kits became apprentices, families grew, things changed. He'd come a long way from the tom that was physically ill near Moon Tree when receiving his nine lives. Funny how that made him smile to think of.
"Alright let’s get moving. Keep light on your paws and be aware of your surroundings. There's been an increase in large predators in the valley and I don't want to lose anyone. Apprentices keep to the middle near Dewfrost, warriors on the outside, front and back. Let’s make this a safe journey."
The trip was not new for him, in fact now it was becoming old habit. As they reached StarClan's Claws Silverstar quietly ordered his clanmates to fan out and find a seat. They would await the others, and once everyone was here everything would begin again.
Attending: Silverstar, Emberlight, Dewfrost [NPC], Elkheart, Sablepaw, Minnowsplash, Piketooth[NPC], Coldrush[NPC], Frogchaser, Littlepaw
Birdstar animatedly leads his Clan, chatting about the upcoming Gathering and making sure there are no snakes plotting to ambush his cats walking through the gloom to StarClan's Claws. As they near their destination, chatter stills and StoneClan forms two lines behind their leader and deputy. Although they are the last to arrive, Birdstar and Valiantstride march in on dignified paws, knowing full well the other Clans are expecting Smokestar instead. Birdstar and Valiantstride, in an unprecedented motion, both step up onto the leader's perch. Birdstar's youthful face contrasts sharply with Valiantstride's but both of them look upon the clans with mountains of pride.
Attending with him: Coppertalon, Whitehawk, Beetlejaw, Squirrelpaw, Tigerpaw, Rowanleaf (NPC), Sorrelclaw (NPC), and Flintpaw (NPC)
Honeysong’s scent still clung to his fur as Lionstar led the way to StarClan’s Claws. The moon above them was full and beautiful, and though the night air wasn't uncomfortable, Lionstar still felt a pang of sadness as his paws carried him away from the ancient stump. Old age had him cherishing the quiet moments more; those little instances where he could spend time with those he loved dearest. I'll be back soon, Honeysong. With that unspoken promise on his mind, Lionstar's demeanor changed as he shifted from 'comfortable, relaxed' into 'alert and mindful'.
TreeClan arrived onto the sacred lands, and Lionstar made the jump from the ground to the high rock, golden eyes narrowing in surprise at the presence of two StoneClan cats already sitting there. That's unconventional. Where is Smokestar? With a curt nod of greeting to the others, he glanced questioningly at the one he recognized to be Valiantstride. Whatever the case was, he was curious to hear it.
Attending: Lionstar, Pumafang, Falconstorm, Sagepaw, Graypaw, Shrikesong, Snowpaw, Fawnspring, Robinflight, Blackwater (NPC), Briarstripe (NPC), Cliffchaser (NPC)
At last, the rain had subsided. The Tribe made their way down into the valley, surprised to find that the Clan territories had been soaked in damp. The rain had drained down into the valley, leaving the mountains much drier than the lands at its base. With every step each cat was reminded of just how different their lives were from that of the Clans. Even the rain was much more invasive for their distant cousins. They were surprised to find that StarClan's Claws had not flooded, the imposing stones cast shadows over the river, which moved swifter owing to the excess water. Skyteller cast a reassuring smile at the most nervous of the group, his broad ginger face lit up by the round, full moon. Together, the Tribe flowed down into the crowd of gathered Clan cats, their eyes flashing in the moonlight.
Attending: Skyteller, Dark, Snake, Hound, Echo, Dust, Moth (NPC), Storm (NPC) and Leopard (NPC)

Birdstar had felt fine leading his Clan out of camp, felt completely confident, but as they all neared StarClan's Claws and saw the rest of the Clans gathered there, the matte-gray tom's nerves had begun to rattle. I will be the youngest Leader there. He said that with certainty about Lionstar, Redstar, and the Skyteller, and he could probably include Darkstar and Silverstar in that line-up--if all five of them had stayed the same as last time. Was he ready to face them a mere season after Smokestar had been on the rock?
All the more reason for you to not give them doubt about StoneClan's strength, a soft voice came unbidden, and then a gruff one, Pebbles fall yet mountains stand. StarClan's wisdom steeled his limbs, and he turned to his clan. "Let's quiet down and form two lines as we enter," he said, hoping to demonstrate StoneClan's discipline as they marched into StarClan's Claws. "And watch the water so you don't slip!"
Ignoring the gleaming eyes all on him and his Clan, he turned to Valiantstride and respectfully waited for the elder tom to ascend the rock before he followed him. Birdstar's frame was a block of gray, barely visible in the gloom except for his leaf-colored eyes. This was hardly his first Gathering attendance, but still, he felt almost as nervous as any apprentice and he smiled down at the lot he'd chosen to attend, giving them encouraging looks. With their arrival, the Gathering could now begin, and he could tell that all were waiting on him expectantly. Smokestar's absence was so obvious and her deputy was beside him on the rock? He could see warriors of the other Clans whispering to each other and glancing at the untraditional pair.
"Welcome, friends!" Birdstar began, looking at all leaders in turn and lingering the shortest upon Redstar. He extended a deep nod of respect to the oldest leader amongst them--Lionstar--and also to the Tribe, to whom StoneClan owed much. "Let me introduce myself. I am Birdstar, and yes, Valiantstride stands beside me as a deputy still. Last season's rain caused a mudslide in our territory. Some of our clanmates were buried alive, including Smokestar, and it is by her final command that I became leader. StoneClan is no stranger to tragedy but we are resilient and steadfast. Our prey runs plentiful and as you can see"--he chuckled to lighten the mood after such a solemn announcement--"all of us have water to spare." Birdstar gestured to the river gushing beside the Gathering place.
"StoneClan honors several cats for their longtime service to the Clan, including our recent elder Sandblaze. I am pleased to announce that our medicine cat apprentice, Ebonyheart, has stepped up perfectly. Also, we welcomed Yewkit into our nursery a couple moons ago." Birdstar's inexperience flickered through, and he glanced to Valiantstride with uncertainty, feeling embarrassed that his Clan did not have new warrior names to announce. He decided it was best to hand off the announcements to the next cat, and so he turned to Silverstar as he asked, "How fares our neighbor?" TAGGED FOR JusticeOOC bird @ silver: pls no ban

He flicked his tail out and absently pulled a piece of debris from the fluffy appendage before settling back in his place. Silverstar had learned to be alert, to watch the others and try to judge everyone's moods. War from the others wasn't a far off memory any longer. Though TreeClan and NightClan had settled down, he still remembered that since his coming to leadership the other clans had been fighting and changing on a near seasonal rotation. Medicine cats, deputies, leaders. All changing just like the seasons. So it didn't surprise him, one season after another, to see that there was a new leader for one of the other clans. If they'd all stop fighting each other and focus on themselves then maybe it wouldn't be this way. With Birdstar's announcements out of the way Silverstar rose gracefully to his paws and pad up to take his place front and center on the stone. He wondered why exactly the new leader looked to him as though they were friends. Though it was decent of him to ask how they were it wasn't really any of his business beyond waiting out the announcements. They were not friends, their clans were neither enemies nor allies. RainClan, for all intents and purposes, stood apart. They would help, but they would NOT go to war for anyone other than themselves. Let the others burn the valley down around them, he wanted no part of it. "RainClan lingers in a time of prosperity. Our nursery welcomes several kits, strengthening our numbers for the future. Our apprentices are learning well and prey remains plentiful. I have been receiving more reports of large predators in the valley recently and warn my fellow leaders to be vigilant to their presence while it remains." His turn done he stepped back, offering a nod to the other leaders and a smile to Redstar. Of all the leaders he really felt he was mostly only truly cordial to LightningClan's leader. They'd come to similar terms, after all. Following the steps of an aged leader from time spent as a deputy. Coming to a clan semi-fresh from various disasters. Inner conflict for him and fire and death for Redstar. The others he would respect but didn't really think much of them. TreeClan and NightClan lost all his respect the day they aired their conflict to a gathering of cats like two apprentices bickering over a fresh kill. Katara OOC : You're up hun.

DARKSTAR LEADER OF NIGHTCLAN The absence of Smokestar from StoneClan's patrol was immediately noticed by Darkstar, and amber eyes tracked a blue-gray tom and the StoneClan deputy as they both approached the leaders' perch and leaped up to join them. She suspected Valiantstride was here in Smokestar's place, but that didn't explain why the younger tom was here as well. She didn't recognize him, of course - she couldn't be bothered to learn every last warrior in the forest, least of all from a Clan they'd had no conflicts with for a long time. No, if there was any Clan besides her own that she'd recognize every warrior within its ranks, it would be TreeClan - if only because she'd been busy ripping their fur out in the battles that had taken place seasons ago. She fixed her gaze on the pair of StoneClan cats for another moment before looking away, feigning disinterest as she looked back out among the gathered cats. She would find out soon enough.
And she did, for as soon as all Clans were present and the clearing had quieted down, StoneClan's warriors were the first to speak. Darkstar blinked as the blue-gray tom introduced himself as Birdstar, and she barely had time to wonder what had befallen Smokestar before the new leader explained it to them. Some of our clanmates were buried alive, including Smokestar. Ah. That certainly wasn't the way she would want to go, all her nine lives choked out of her one-by-one by an unstoppable force of nature. It occurred to Darkstar that some may see this as a sign Smokestar wasn't fit for leadership, if StarClan had robbed her of her power and her life so early in her reign. Not that it mattered if it was StarClan's will or not, but a dead leader was a dead leader. And Valiantstride wasn't leader, which meant Birdstar's rise to power wasn't an ordinary one. She narrowed her eyes with interest, already deep in thought, but was careful to give the new leader a curt nod as he stepped away and let Silverstar make his announcements. The RainClan leader didn't share anything important, which meant they'd apparently had an uneventful Greenleaf. Though the report of large predators was interesting - had RainClan had a similar reckoning with something like Deathclaw? She decided quickly to stick to her original plan of not mentioning the Owl Queen in her news; it didn't affect the other Clans, and she didn't want them to have the idea that NightClan couldn't deal with an owl. A wicked owl, but still an owl. The dark tortoiseshell slid to the front of the rock to replace Silverstar as he finished.
"NightClan, too, has seen prosperity in the last season," she began. "We have welcomed new kits into the nursery, and we have a new warrior among us - Cricketchirp." She briefly paused, allowing the young warrior a second to bask in the attention. "Rainfur has stepped down from her previous post, as she's expecting kits, and I have appointed Clovermask as the new deputy of NightClan." She was careful not to imply in any way that Rainfur was incapable of being deputy, despite the evidence that it would have one day killed her. And she didn't mention the fact that the new kits in the nursery were her own. She was certain it would come out one way or another someday, but she'd rather save that day for when they'd become apprentices or - better yet - warriors. No, it would always be better to hold her weaknesses close to her for as long as she possibly could. She didn't bother sharing news of Clan deaths either, unlike Birdstar who saw it fitting to air such information as if he were surrounded by his five closest friends and not his five rival leaders. Darkstar stepped back, signaling her news was finished. TAGGED: Fawn

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars Well... The new leader of StoneClan is certainly cheerful. Lionstar's whiskers twitched, the old lion taken aback by the obvious youth and liveliness of the gray-pelted tom in charge of StoneClan's wellbeing. He chuckled into his mane, pleased to see Hawkstar's legacy continuing on in someone who at the very least had good manners. I pray your vibrancy lasts, Birdstar.
That almost grandfatherly amusement faded as the next Clan leaders began to speak. Silverstar, who had prevented Falconstorm from gathering herbs in RainClan, earned a cold, polite interest in the comings and goings of the water based Clan. As always, Silverstar spoke of his Clan's prosperity and abundance of kits and warriors. It was a safe answer, and Lionstar decided against speculating if something deeper went on beyond the front Silverstar presented.
Silverstar warned of predators, and Lionstar almost snorted. A leader that showed concern for his neighbors but withheld precious life-saving herbs? Fortunately Greenleaf had been bountiful with both prey and plantlife. Reliance on anyone for resources wasn't in TreeClan's foreseeable future.
Then came Darkstar's announcements. When the she-cat stepped forward to speak, Lionstar felt the tension burn inside his body. This so-called leader who had dared to attack TreeClan at it's heart. Who had frightened his Clan in their own nests, sneaking into their territory like a pack of foxes. Only moons upon moons of learned diplomacy - and the heavy need to preserve the fragile truce between them - kept Lionstar's anger in check. When Darkstar finished her piece (something about a new deputy, Clovermask), Lionstar gathered himself out of his seated position to stand at the head of the rock.
"This Greenleaf has been mild compared to those of the past. Apart from increased activity from Demon, the usual perils of the season have been absent." Lionstar flicked his tail, pleased to report no signs of drought or fire within their beloved woodlands. "Our medicine cat, Falconstorm, has taken an apprentice by the name of Sagepaw. Both are with us here tonight."
Golden eyes found the small form sitting near the other healers, and he smiled, giving Sagepaw a warm nod of acknowledgment. Be brave, young Sagepaw. All eyes were on her now, and on Falconstorm - many probably surprised that Falconstorm had at long last found a successor. Bluejay had been well liked in all Clans, though only two medicine cats apart from Falconstorm remained to even remember her.
Careful not to dwell on melancholy thoughts, Lionstar added. "Acornpaw, Graypaw and Moonpaw have also just begun their apprenticeships, while Glacierspring and Robinflight join us as full warriors." Golden eyes flitted to the faces of the assembled leaders, and he yielded his place upon the rock. "Nothing further from TreeClan." I've been building up all these kingdoms for so long It's good to be king
