Squirrelpaw Everything was happening so quickly.
Squirrelpaw had landed a hit, and this time his claws had met flesh and dug in. Bird blood oozed into the fur around his toes and he could feel flesh ripping as he fell back to the ground.
Once he had finished his attack, Orioleflight and Slatepaw jumped in to attack the eagles. But not before one of them managed to land a blow on Coppertalon.
Squirrelpaw had no time to think about what to do next, as every hair on his body was urging him to run. Save himself. This was not a smart battle. He took a few uneasy steps back, panting as he watched Orioleflight and Slatepaw attack the eagle. He was scared, and ashamed that he was scared. But he needed to fight on-- his clanmates needed him, and every claw was important in a battle.
Squirrelpaw pushed his misgivings deep, deep down and took a steadying breath. He watched the eagles for a moment or two, as though gauging where and when would be the best place to attack. His pelt was bushed in fear, and fear scent clung to him like dung.
Now!
There was his chance! He leaped at the eagles, alongside his clanmates and leader, claws out and teeth bared. He was a warrior apprentice--fear would never stop him from defending his clan. Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride Nobody gonna slow me down

Birdstar was greatly impressed with the way that his clan was handling this threat, not just his warriors, but his apprentices as well. It was only natural that they be afraid and nervous when things were uncertain and could turn for the worst at any moment. However, Birdstar felt they were starting to see that if they stayed calm and worked together, they could accomplish anything with the help of their Clan. He saw Orioleflight and Slatepaw work in a conjoined tactic that rocked the Eagle Pair and sent feathers flying.
The hunting pair were beginning to show signs of weakness and injury. With each flap of wings, blood sprinkled the ground beneath, but it wasn't enough to kill the huge birds just yet. Birdstar's emerald eyes honed in carefully on the uneven way one of the eagles flew. However, Coppertalon's sudden yowl of pain distracted him, and Birdstar jerked sideway, eyes wide in shock as an eagle landed a retaliatory blow upon his warrior.
"Can you still fight, Coppertalon?" he called, but the tom was determined to answer through actions, not words, swatting at the eagle as it launched away from the cat. Squirrelpaw, too, was face-first into the fray.
As the eagles wheeled around, Birdstar called for all of his warriors to bunch up and present a combined force so that the flying devils wouldn't be able to pick one of them up without being confronted by several others. "Drive them into the rocks! Charge!" he caterwauled. He sprang as nimbly as a hare onto the stones and reached out with claws outstretched, trying to catch his foe in mid-air and bring the heavy bird down to the ground somehow.

There was a flash of white and orange as another cat flew into the fight without warning. The large tom flew past the patrol and up onto one of the rocks. He turned just long enough to spot his targets before springing forward off the rock towards one of them. He outstretches his claws, hoping to hook onto one of the birds and at least throw it off with his sheer weight. When it came to weight, he had most of the clan beat with his chub hanging off of him. So if gravity didn't knock him down first, the birds would have a heck of a time trying to fly with him dangling off of them. Well....that was the hope anyway.
The young tom would have been there much earlier to aid in the fight but he had gone off on a hunt on his own before the patrol made the call to head out. So he had no idea they were making a move already. He would have at least volunteered to tag along if so. Much to his surprise, his hunt had brought him close enough to hear the cries of his clanmates. All of their calls and cries to one another making it obvious they were up against something much bigger than them. And while the tom's weight might make it difficult to fight winged creatures, he couldn't allow his clanmates to fight these denizens of the skies alone. So here he was, making an attempt to fly through the air and hook himself a big birdy.

Unsheathed claws met thin air instead of feathers as the bird shifted just in time, and Ospreywing hissed in frustration as he twisted through the air, stumbling slightly as he landed awkwardly on stone. Yellow eyes scanned the skies before peered back toward the battle as he reoriented himself. Though his own attack missed, the tuxedo tom watched as Squirrelpaw, Coppertalon, and Birdstar landed minor blows in quick succession, before his nephew’s apprentice and Orioleflight and her apprentice caused noticeable damage.
The birds were growing weaker, their flying uneven due to injuries and exhaustion alike, and bent feathers and drops of blood lay scattered across the battlefield. A sharp yowl of pain had Ospreywing turning to see Coppertalon retaliating at one of the pair, and the still-bleeding talon marks on his own shoulder twinged in commiseration. They would both be stopping by Ebonyheart’s den for some cobwebs after this was over.
Birdstar’s call had him hastening in his climb back to the high ground, stepping lightly as he scaled the pile until a blur of white and orange caught his attention. Goldenspark had arrived out of nowhere. Using his size to his advantage, the hefty warrior clung to one of the eagles, dragging it down while the StoneClan leader did the same to its partner. Feathers flew through the air as the eagles struggled against the added weight. “Hold it still!” Hoping to take advantage of the situation, Ospreywing leapt at the one in Goldenspark’s grasp.

[googlefont=Parisienne][googlefont=Jost] Orioleflight A triumphant yowl escaped the mottled she-cat’s throat as claws sank into the eagle’s wing. A matching call from her apprentice told her the joint attack was a success on both points, and Orioleflight granted herself a toothy grin as her adrenaline spiked. The eagle flapped his wings in a furious attempt to shake the two cats. With a hard jerk, the bird ripped his wing from Orioleflight’s claws, but not without leaving blood and feathers between her toes. A heartbeat after the warrior’s paws hit the ground, Slatepaw was landing beside her, also shaken off. The eagle’s flight was lopsided and difficult, and it wouldn’t be long before the cats had taken him down.
Looking down from the bird’s crooked flight, Orioleflight tilted her head to see Slatepaw staring at her flank. Glancing down, she noticed the talon marks there, left from the initial attack that she took in her apprentice’s stead. She looked back at the grey and white tom with a smile. She flicked her tail against his shoulder, “I’ll be fine. Fight’s not done yet.” Nodding to where Birdstar was banding the patrol back together, she brushed past him, dragging her tail across his flank. She leapt up to join the patrol as the eagles unevenly circled back around.
From nowhere, a ginger-tipped white blur flew through the air, landing on one of the eagles as they approached. Goldenspark’s claws dug in, and things moved quickly. Ospreywing leapt out, drawing blood from the bird. Within a moment, Orioleflight was airborne again, claws outstretched in an attempt to join the attack with Ospreywing and Goldenspark.

The tides of battle was slowly beginning to show with each warrior or apprentice's effort to take down this horrible and seemingly powerful foe. Each hit seemed to take its toll on cat and eagle alike and at Coppertalon's position, he could easily take note of the effect it was having on the eagle pair. Their seemingly towering forms, were now racked with injuries, from minor scratches, to deep bite marks that had managed to land on their oily features. Once proud and poised and deadly, the two almost seemed lumbering and weak in stature by this point. Feathered chests heaving up and down in rhythm with each other, as they glared and battled on with their cat foes. Coppertalon let out another low hiss through his now gritted teeth as another spasm of pain forced his attention once more back to his wounded shoulder. At first, he had believed it had been nothing more than a nick but upon closer inspection and with the strain of his own stubbornness with wanting to continue the battle at hand.
Still, he was too prideful to want to stop now, no matter his body's screaming desire for him to do so. Still, when Birdstar's concerned words echoed through his ears, Coppertalon felt his jaws scrunch up into an ugly line of both annoyance and anger. It had a lot more to do with pride than it was about his leader's concern for him. For you see, the elder warrior was in fact, just that. An elder who refused to put himself into the elder's den simply because he was too lost in his own sense of wanting to prove that he could handle whatever life through at him. So with adrenaline still pulsing through his very being, like an alder ready to strike at its prey, the warrior turned a single stare to his leader. "I'm fine, Birdstar," He almost snarled but he was quick to mellow out his own tone before it could display his truer emotions. Now wasn't the time. "Worry about the others" Pulling his attention away from his leader, he looked back towards his fellow clanmates, before angling his eyes back towards his foes once more. His last hit, hadn't been much successful and frankly the eagles has managed to get him once more but compared to his previous injury this small cut was more manageable.
So even with his injuries mounting up, the elder was more than willing to continue on. So with his leader's words about driving the birds towards the rocks, the warrior decided to follow Birdstar's lead. When he moved forward to launch his attack, Coppertalon's eyes caught the movement and moved to follow him. He sprang up as well, ignoring his body's complaints to do so, and reached out with a paw outstretched in midair, to strike out once again at the eagle pair.

Squirrelpaw
The eagles were beginning to fight for their lives.
Out of everything else—the massive wings, the hooked beak, the razor talons—this fight-for-survival instinct is what made the eagles dangerous. The two raptors were flying awkwardly, at angles, and the Stoneclan warriors were able to keep them from gaining any real altitude. The combined weight of the cats managed to keep the birds down. Without the ability to strike with their talons from above, their attacks were limited and jerky. Slow.
Squirrelpaw bushed his pelt out as big as it could go. Coppertalon was assuring Birdstar he was fine, which probably meant the elder was not fine. Squirrelpaw could smell blood coming from either Slatepaw or Orioleflight, he could not tell which one it was. His little heart was beating faster than a hummingbird. He briefly closed his eyes and imagined Beetlejaw giving him some sagely advice about being calm, about honor, about anything that would help him get through this battle. I should have stayed in camp pulling ticks! He thought, These birds will kill us all if we give them a chance!
...so we won’t.
Squirrelpaw knew what he had to do. He rushed the birds, trying to grab their attention away from the others, trying to be as obnoxious and disorienting as he could be. He ran around the eagles, taking swipes here and there, yowling
“Come on feather heads! Don’t you want a nice piece of Squirrelpaw? I’m delicious!”

The more the eagles fought them, the more sloppy and hectic they seemed to get. Birdstar couldn't figure out why they wouldn't just cut their losses and leave his Clan alone. If he was in bad shape same as them, and his Clanmates were the same, the Leader would want to call a retreat, just to live and fight another day. But these birds seemed to hedge everything on their pride, and they wouldn't go down so easily.
Although he was concerned over his mates, it was a testament to his newfound role as leader that he didn't stop and zigzag to all of his warriors like a mother hen. Birdstar didn't take offense to Coppertalon's brusque tone. They were all fighting hard, breathing heavily. In the battlefield, his eyes focused on both his Clan and their opponents, and he used his agility to his advantage.
Birdstar lunged atop the rocky hill, tail lashing. They outnumbered the brutes, and now he was just biding his time until one of them got too close. He lowered his belly to the stones to blend in. He wanted to chastise Squirrelpaw on his recklessness, drawing in the birds by yowling like a hooligan, but did that matter now? Not when the apprentice had landed a hit of his own and skillfully missed the eagle's claw. Birdstar blinked in muted awe at how well Slatepaw and Squirrelpaw were doing; they were practically full-grown warriors, and the rest of his soldiers would be able to testify of their steadfastness to the rest of the Clan.
Using Squirrelpaw's boldness to his advantage, Birdstar pounced when the bird dropped in close to attack the apprentice. The green-eyed tom's eyes were alight with fire rarely seen in him but all he could think about was using these birds to feed StoneClan heartily for the next week. Baring his teeth, Birdstar attempted to sink his fangs into the eagle's head and keep him grounded.

A smirk crossed Goldenspark's features as his chunky bod actually collided with one of the injured birds, claws digging in as it suddenly faltered mid-flight. It was at this point that he was then joined by Ospreywing and Orioleflight on the bird he had brought back down to their level. Ospreywing yelling out about holding the bird still, causing Goldenspark to try and maneuver his way further on top of the bird. The bird attempting to make disoriented peck attacks in his direction. The large tom trying his darndest to avoid these sluggish attacks.
These large birds might be a force to be reckoned with but so were the cats of Stoneclan. The birds were learning this the hard way with oozing wounds and bald spots where feathers had been ripped out. Neither one of the pair seemed to be able to muster the strength to get away at this point. Their movements getting weaker and weaker as each group of cats wailed on them. This gave Goldenspark another boost of confidence as he tries to dig his claws in deeper and lung forward with an opened maw. He bares his teeth as he tries to cause some more damage to the bird under his paws. They had this, he just knew it. And what a story they would have when they got back to camp. That and he would definitely have some bragging rights helping out with this battle. Afterall, it was his first major run-in with predators of this nature.

[googlefont=Parisienne][googlefont=Jost] Orioleflight Orioleflight grinned as her claws sank again into the bird’s flesh. Her claws hooked in its chest this time, sinking past the downy feathers to pierce the skin. She held on, foreclaws dug deep, as her hindlegs swung beneath her, still carrying the momentum of her leap. She tensed her underbelly, drawing her hindlegs up to kick at the bird’s chest, dealing even more damage. The eagle screeched, the sound nearly splitting her head open, and struck its head downward. Orioleflight managed to flinch her head to the side a split second before the eagle’s beak made contact, saving her eye from devastation. Her cheek stung from the gash the eagle’s maw tore into her skin, but it wasn’t enough to incapacitate her.
As her patrol leapt up at the eagle pair in rapid succession, Orioleflight retracted her claws and let herself fall to the ground. She landed nimbly on her paws, save a slight adjustment when her injured flank protested. Gold eyes immediately went back to the skies, where the birds were just barely hanging on. How they still managed to fly was a mystery, but a testament to their pride and determination. Orioleflight couldn’t help but smile as she watched Slatepaw leap into the air, repeatedly slashing at the winged beasts. Squirrelpaw was doing well, too, taunting them from the ground while dodging sharp talons.
The birds were flagging; it wouldn’t be long before they were taken down. A surge of energy rushed through her at the thought, and she once again threw herself into the fray. With a determined battle cry, Orioleflight leapt into the air, claws aiming once again for the eagles, this time for the one that didn’t have Goldenspark clinging to its back.

With the battle fully under way, the patrol of StoneClan cats seemed to finally find their rhythm. It was with a vindictive satisfaction that Ospreywing’s claws sunk into the feathered body of the eagle that had been pinned by Goldenspark, while the pained screeches of their other avian opponent told him that the others had landed successful blows as well. In a blur of orange and white, Orioleflight joined them in landing a solid attack on the unfortunate eagle before the bird managed to tear its way free and take to the air once more.
Though they had managed to land some successful blows in retaliation, the eagles were very clearly in dire shape. They flew in uneven circles, seeming to stay aloft through sheer will power alone. Bent feathers littered the ground, and every StoneClan cat had blood on their claws. Squirrelpaw taunted the pair, a somewhat uncomfortable reminder of just how young the other tom was (and therefore how old Ospreywing, whose nephew had taught Squirrelpaw how to fight, was), and Birdstar took advantage of the distraction to land another devastating blow. Goldenspark followed up with an attack of his own, as did Orioleflight, who barely missed – and then it was his turn. Claws outstretched, he leapt at the bird that had dodged Orioleflight’s attack.
A sense of finality that had fallen over the patrol, fueling their attacks. They were so close to finishing this battle, and they all knew it.

The battle was winding down, it was evident in the eagles posturing, the wild and exhausted look in their eyes. Down to the heavy and labored breathing. His clan mates had done well and it was evident in the progress of this entire battle and yet despite this Coppertalon would never truly acknowledge their hard work. The tom was much to prideful for that and even if he wasn't, it wasn't his job to give comforting gestures and reassuring smiles and praising. It was Birdstar's and that's how it was going to say. Coppertalon had never been the type to utter such nonsense and he wasn't about to start now. So as his clan mates moved to continue their onslaught, Coppertalon shook out the thick tresses of his short pelt, ignoring the edge of pain still coursing through him from the previous hit. The eagles had once again landed another hit in him, and a newer fresh injury was added to his already aching body.
Yet the hard pressed and clearly stubborn tom was much to involved to stop now. So letting out another low growl, though it seemed to mix in with the low grunt of pain that followed. The tom bunched up his muscles, kneaded the cool stone beneath his paws before he pushed off the ground. Once more throwing himself at the eagle pair. The tides if battle had turned now, and here he was hoping he could end this battle once and for all;

Squirrelpaw This was it. The eagle pair were hurting badly now, with feathers strewn here and there along the ground. Some of them lifted into the air on gust of wind caused by wing beats or the shuffling of paws but for the most part the feathers that had come off were coated in blood, which made them stick to the ground. Squirrelpaw managed a swipe at one of the eagles and felt the satisfaction of his claws raking through bird flesh, ripping through the thin skin and loosing even more feathers onto the scene.
The eagles were preoccupied by other clanmates, and Squirrelpaw witnessed with horror as Ospreywing and Coppertalon were injured by the eagle’s massive beaks and talons. The fighting was getting desperate on both sides now.
So far Squirrelpaw was lucky enough to have escaped injury, despite throwing himself into the heat of the battle. He knew he had energy to spare, and he refused to let his older clanmates take the brunt of the attack any longer. When he saw his clanmates injuries something changed in him, and suddenly he had just one focus: kill the eagles.
Squirrelpaw stopped his ducking and dodging and backed away a few tail lengths. He would need all of the force and speed he could get for this last ditch attack. The young tom crouched down, bunched his muscles into tight knots and, after a few moments to get his balance, launched himself at the eagle pair.

Blood and feathers filled his mouth as Birdstar's attack rocked his target to the core and sent it crashing down, flapping wild wings in both an attempt to defend and right itself. The StoneClan cat kept it pinned with a low growl vibrating deep in his throat, a ferocity never seen before by the other warriors. All his life, the gray tom had been known as a passive mild-mannered boy, a good hunter but hardly the sort of warrior one made legends of.
Birdstar's vibrant green eyes were ringed in blood. His talons were covered in it, and down his chest flowed a sticky dark bib. Strands of blood clung to him and his foe. With a mighty heave, the leader jerked sideways and attempted to shatter his opponent on the rocks. All his focus was upon his target. Faintly, he heard screeches of pain and caterwauls of battle as the other eagle dived in to help its ailing comrade.

Goldenspark's bite attack managed to hit it's mark, the taste of blood and feathers filling his mouth. The bird lets out a pained cry before all of a sudden it manages to knock Goldenspark off his balance. His teeth were now the only thing holding onto the bird. His body swinging around as the bird tries to get to it's feet to help it's partner. Goldenspark growls low, the bird's movements making his mouth begin to ache. He wouldn't be able to hold on much longer if the bird kept this up. In a desperate attempt to get off the bird, Goldenspark brings up what paws he can manage and pushes himself away from the predator. The eagle struggling and trying with all its might to get to the other bird as Birdstar smashes his opponent into the rocks.
Goldenspark lets out a low grunt of pain as he awkwardly lands on top of one of the surrounding rocks. 'That will hurt later...' He thought trying to figure out what was going on with either bird. The bird under Birdstar's assault had fallen limp and was no longer striking out at his clanmates, signaling the fall of the great bird. When Goldenspark looks back to the bird he had been holding down, the bird had collapsed. It's strength had totally failed it in it's attempt to reach it's partner, blood oozing from the many wounds on it's feather bod. Goldenspark cautiously approached the motionless bird to check that it was truly finished. There was a dim sparkle in the bird's eye as the tom came closer. It eyed him for only a moment before Goldenspark saw the life drain from the great bird's body. It was gone.
"It's dead." He speaks aloud to his clanmates so that they knew not to be concerned about this bird. "What about that one? Goldenspark calls out to the cats closest to the second bird. He didn't want something bad to happen if they didn't check each of the birds.
"And Birdstar? That was an amazing blow!" He calls with a cheeky grin to his blood soaked leader.
