hings were for once calm and clear and life couldn't be better for one young warrior. At present, Squirrelheart was sitting waiting patiently for those she'd invited to arrive. Of course Coalmask knew the secret, he was her mate after all, but his family were surely going to be surprised. She'd doubt if they were happy for them, but at least they'd e surprised. And who knew, maybe they'd even be happy for them. It wouldn't change the fact she was excited for what was to come.
It was going to be obvious soon that she'd been putting on weight and had begun taking on more duties closer to home than she usually preferred. She hadn't been to her favorite mud hole in a while either, a sure sign something was up. It had been confirmed and even now she felt the slightest movements from inside her belly making her feel all warm again over the life growing there, life she and Coalmask had made together. She wondered, as she waited, what their kits would look like.
Would they have longer fur or shorter like her parents? Would they be colored like her or Coalmask or a mixture of the two of them, or even more like some of their other family members? Only StarClan knew these things and Squirrelheart couldn't wait until she got to welcome the newest members of her family into her life. First though, was making the announcement to her mate's family since she no longer had her own. It would be fine, she was certain of it.
[NOTES | This has been discussed with STAFF! She is NOT having kits right now this is a litter she's going to lose and this thread is just a setup for a future one. Thank you.]
Excitement buzzed under his grey and black coat. Pale amber eyes seeking out his mother and brother. While his relationship with his niece and nephew was decent, he doubted they would care about his news and did not waste the energy on them.
He had relayed the message to them and asked for their arrival at Squrrielheart's desired time. Now returning to his mate's side, he softly brushed his cheek against her's, a purr deep and full in his chest. "They will be here soon, Starlingcry looks up happy, she is postponing training with Mousepaw to meet with us," He warned her but barely a moment to spare as Starlingcry cleared her throat to alert he pair.
The black blue-eyed, she-cat sat stiffly across from the pair. Ashfang at her side, a bit more relaxed than their mother.
"Why have you gathered us?" Starlingcry's voice equally as cold and detached as her mannerisms. Coalmask almost burst with the news but held his tongue. Waiting for his mate to have this moment of pride.

Silver - rusty Coal I'm sorry!!! but i made it happen
quirrelheart purred warmly as her mate returned with his mother and brother in tow. She straightened and stretched, moving to greet her former Mentor with a light brush of her side against Starlingcry's. "Hello there, it's been awhile. I know you're a busy Warrior so I'll make this quick so you can get back to what you're needing to do." She was always respectful of the she-cat that mentored her, though she felt it was possible they'd butt heads eventually.
She leveled her orange gaze first on Starlingcry then on Ashfang next to her. She rolled her shoulders and decided no-nonsense and to the point was the best way to go. "Coalmask may have told you we decided to be mates, that being said I wanted you to be the first to know besides us and the Medicine Cat that I'm also expecting kits." She nuzzled Coalmask then, tail gently resting against his back as she purred for him. "We're going to be parents."
and i tired to hold these secrets inside of me my mind's like a deadly disease
Starlingcry watched Squirrelheart with an unwavering gaze. Her cold blue eyes, drilling holes into the overly bright ginger pelt of her former apprentice. It wasn't difficult to guess why they had gathered them. Starlingcry had remained diligent in her teachings, the family gathers for one reason only. Yet, she did not speak out of turn. Instead, her tail coiled back and forth as if it prepared to strike.
Ashfang made no verbal remark to his mother but instead stared at his brother. While a bit more brutish compared to his siblings, he had a good idea of Coalmask's intention for calling them, but as his mother he kept quiet. Preferring not to be involved in any things like this, electing it to be concerns of she-cats.
When Squirrelheart broke the news, Starlingcry couldn't restrain her scoff. Coalmask shooting a glare in his mother's direction. She made no attention to his reaction.
"I can only assume you are doing this out of love?" She forced the words out of as if the idea of affection between mates was enough to make her sick. "I had higher expectations for you Coalmask, a she-cat with a skillset to match your own," She spoke directly to Coalmask, capable of ignoring the deepening of her son's glare, his hackles rising.
"It's not that you are a bad warrior Squrrielheart, I trained you myself and I know the first paw your talents. None of which are comparable to Coalmask," Her blue eyes traveled to look at them both equally as she finished her statement. "You both should have kept emotions out of it. Coalmask doesn't need to be tied down to one she-cat his entire life, I can not congratulate the two of you and I can only hope by the grace of StarClan the kits you bear for NightClan are not failures." Those words were her parting phrase, rising to her paws full and departing from the little gathering.
Ashfang remained, Coalmask searched his brother's gaze for any sigh of support but in his brother's eyes, nothing showed. "You knew better," Was all Ashfang had to say before he too left his brother and mate to rejoin his preferred group of friends.
Embarrassed by his family's actions and the cruel words spoken to his mate, Coalmask turned to face her. Ears tucked in shame.
"I'm sorry," He muttered softly.
i'm meaner than my demons. i'm bigger than these bones.
