[Fae Magic]

Darting across the plains with the wind in his short fur was an exciting form of entertainment for the warrior as his long legs bound and stretch out and behind him to push his lanky frame faster and faster along his path ahead. The ground beneath his paws was fresh and moist with the last melting snow soaked into it to grow new life. His large ears perked at the sound of the flapping wings above him and his maw turned into a smirk as his hind legs came up behind him and with little effort bunched and then launched his slender frame high up in the sky. Green eyes bright and wild as they locked onto the brown feathered creature that flew above him to try and escape it's impending death. Silverburr's paws wrapped around the small bird and his claws came out like a cage to drag the winged prey down to his level to the ground. His teeth sank into the back of it's neck to give it a painless and quick death before raising his head panting and looking around the area. Starclan that was a good run! It had been awhile since he enjoyed a good hunt. His solo trip was turning out to be bountiful and productive as he mentally ticked off one more kill to his morning adding it up to 3 thus far. He smirked to himself happy that he would be able to provide for the clan with the new season making everything so much better and easier for their clan to thrive. Leaf-Bare had been bad and he wanted to spoil some of his clan mates by treating them to something special like an extra piece of fresh-kill that he would be able to bring back home thanks to the warming weather that brought out the new life of prey. 

The warrior of LightningClan quickly picked up his newest catch and turned to pad away back towards his designated area where he was burying his prey. A tick of his was when he noticed others just burying their prey wherever they pleased instead of keeping track of only one spot to put them in so it'd be easier to find. He hated when he had to go searching and hunting for the same prey he had killed not too long ago when all he had to do was bury it in one particular spot with a landmark he knew well. He trotted his way back towards camp area where he had started in the territories closest to camp before his solo hunting party ended up making him move a bit further away. But it was worth it. He could go back to camp thankfully with a mouthful of prey to help feed his clan. Silverburr was a proud tom who dedicated himself of finding any way possible to make sure his clan was alright and well fed even in the worst of seasons. Even if he himself did not have a particular strong or close bond with most of his clan because of his secret insecurities of his younger years he still prided himself at being a good hunter and a dedicated warrior. After finding his spot that he had marked for his prey he dug up his other two prey he had managed to catch that morning and quickly found a good way of picking them up although it was a bit of a mouthful. One wing here and two tails there. He was just glad they were not too big or heavy to carry on his own. Maybe he shouldn't be too zealous when he hunted alone. Good Starclan only knew he wouldn't be able to carry everything he caught and he had a thing about having everyone needing to know he was the one to catch it all. He didn't like others carrying in his prey even if they were helping only to carry them back when he couldn't. 

Shaking his prideful thoughts away the dappled silver tom made his way quickly into camp and looked around the clearing to see who was all up. He had gone out a little bit after the morning patrols to hunt for himself and he could see they had already returned with fresh kill. Good, that meant he would be able to dispose of his own fresh kill to each den. Of course one prey per den would not feed everyone within said dens he chose to give the prey too but it was better then nothing and he liked to spoil a little bit. He dropped off his rabbit to the nursery first for the queens and then went to the Elders den and Medicine den disposing of the birds he had caught respectfully at each doorway; calling in a quick good morning and letting them know they had a gift before making his way back towards the clearing. He didn't like to stay long to chat as it made him uncomfortable to be praised or thanked. He liked being the silent shoulder or supportive mentor to those without actually interacting with them because of his insecurities. That also meant he was a bit of a loner and didn't have many friends if any that were true friends outside of just them being clan mates. He envied their relationships but that was alright. He would be alright by himself doing what he was doing. 

Shrugging to himself the tom went to the fresh kill pile for himself and nosed through it before grabbing a mouse. He honestly wasn't all that hungry even after his long morning's work of hunting. He chose the smallest there and padded off to the side in the shade to eat his meager meal. Green eyes bright and keen as they watched around camp making sure everything was alright unaware that his gaze turned away too long to not notice a certain someone making their way towards him.

THUNDERHEART

A warrior at last. In the many days since Redstar had finally granted him his warrior name, the striped tom had been riding the post-ceremony high as far as it would take him. The initial excitement – and the glowing pride in Cloudyfeather’s eyes as she watched him step forward before the clan – had chased away any traces of exhaustion during his vigil on that first night, and when he realized the next morning that his time was his own to spend however he liked, he felt like he could have sprouted wings and flown then and there. Leaf-bare was ending and he was a warrior.

Thunderheart. Hearing the name still sent a shiver of satisfaction down his spine and had his heart skipping a beat. Thunderheart. For a moment when Redstar had paused before giving him his warrior name, he had experienced the sudden, gut-wrenching fear that it would be something like Thunderclaw. Already he lived in the shadow of his late father; to not only resemble him in appearance but to also be named after him was a prospect so horrible that, even now when it had clearly not come to pass, he couldn’t stop potent rush of revulsion that coiled in his gut. Thunderheart would never have forgiven Redstar for such a name. Still – and as the thought struck him, a scowl broke through the pleased smile on his face – how many cats had watched him up there and seen Gustclaw standing before them? Gustclaw, who had apparently shared his striped silver fur and penchant for trouble. Gustclaw, who had lost so many loved ones yet resolutely soldiered on before his life, too, was cut tragically short. Gustclaw, who was a valuable warrior and a loving mate and the best of brothers, who was wonderful and perfect and could do no wrong – and “what would your father think about you slacking off, Thunderpaw?” and “Your father died for you and this is how you choose to repay his sacrifice, Thunderpaw?” and “Don’t you want to make your father proud, Thunderpaw?”

The scowl grew in strength, and he kicked at a stray stone as he forced away the echoes of past accusations. He’d made it, hadn’t he? Managed to become a warrior. Who cared what his late father would have thought anyway – he was dead.

As it turned out, warriorhood did not mean he was free to do as he pleased; if anything, it meant the opposite. Blazefang may have been inclined to give him days off, but Owlmind was not – and he was quickly growing to resent the stern she-cat for it. Honestly, it wasn’t as if every single rabbit in their territory would disappear if he missed one day of hunting. And so what if he decided to sleep in rather than go on the dawn patrol today? Curling up next to his sisters was a novelty after so many long moons by himself in the apprentice’s den; he wasn’t about to leave them for the frigid darkness of the outside world. Just because she perpetually woke up on the wrong side of the nest didn’t mean she had to take it out on him. A patrol with Silverburr and Mudpelt. Ugh. Surely this was cruel and unusual punishment, but when he’d complained to Blazefang, the elder had only laughed and said that with those two watching him like hawks, maybe he would actually get something productive done.

Yellow eyes glanced around camp for the silver-furred tom only to find him eating a pathetic excuse for a mouse. "Hey Silverburr," Thunderheart said as he approached. "Owlmind wants you, me, and Mudpelt to patrol the TreeClan border." With his tail, he gestured toward the camp entrance where his brown-furred uncle was dutifully waiting for them. "She was rather adamant that it happen now, so eat fast." He rolled his eyes. It was almost as if she didn't trust him to do what he was told unless he did it the moment he was told. His mind strayed back to his pleasant morning laying around with Lightningstripe. Can't imagine why.

[Fae Magic]

The chitter chatter of the camp activities filled Silverburr's ears as he munched away at his meager meal slowly. His muscles were thanking him for the rest as he was actually kind of tired having run around so much that morning. But he was glad to have been able to enjoy the New-Leaf weather that they had that morning and still be able to bring back some prey for his clan. His pale green eyes scanned the clearing and noticed the kits out to play while their mothers talked and shared their meal he had brought to them. He could faintly make out the hushed chatter of the elders and the mixed voices of others within camp. Silverburr's eyes soon landed upon a figure making their way towards him and his eyes narrowed. Did he hear ThunderHeart correctly? Owlmind wanted him to go out again on a border patrol? Of course, Silverburr didn't mind too terribly as long as he was made useful for the clan but he was a little irritated that he had to go back out so soon for this little party after just getting back from hunting. He sighed audibly and his tongue came out to quickly groom his whiskers before his lanky body rose from where it lay and he picked up his carcass of his meal and went to go bury it before returning. His gaze turned to look towards Mudpelt; seeing his clan mate waiting for him and his nephew at the entrance, ever dutiful like Silverburr himself. He finally returned his gaze towards the younger male and gave him a firm nod of agreement and stretched his spindly legs out in front of him. 

"Alright ThunderHeart. Let's go if that's what OwlMind wishes." he agreed straightening himself up again and standing tall like he was known for presenting himself. 

He padded past the other and headed for the entrance of camp towards MudPelt and gave the older tom a nod of greeting but did not say anything. He was a tom of few words anyways so that was fine. The silver tabby flicked his tail towards ThunderHeart and looked over his shoulder at him with a small smile. 

"Is there a particular reason OwlMind needed us to check the TreeClan border? There hasn't been any news about anything shady going on that I haven't heard about yet has there?" he frowned 

He didn't want to be one to worry of course but he needed to know just in case something was up. There hadn't been an issue with TreeClan for the moment in a little while. He figured everyone was just getting the hang of getting comfortable again in the new season and making plans for the future, He honestly didn't know who was supposed to be in charge of this patrol anyways so he didn't want to step on anyone's toes when it came to border patrols as they were a bit more important then a hunting patrol but ThunderHeart or MudPelt hadn't said anything about that but he might as well say something about it and get a feel of what was going on right now. If not well Silverburr was well known for being someone who was willing to take charge of a situation. He didn't want to seem weak in front of his clan mates but he did not wish to overstep on others toes if it was not his show to lead. His pale green eyes turned subconsciously towards the clearing of camp to try and spot OwlMind; the deputy was doing what she needed to of course as her duty and he didn't want to go over and bother her for details so he turned his attention back towards his companions and tilted his head towards the entrance.

THUNDERHEART

Pale green eyes narrowed as they landed on him, and Thunderheart felt his mood darken. What’s that look for, huh? I’m not any more thrilled about this than you are. He watched as Silverburr left with a heavy sigh, the remains of the mouse clenched in his jaws, and muttered after him, "If you want to try telling Owlmind this is a stupid idea, by all means, go ahead." He himself had tried as soon as she’d found him, but she had summarily cut short his objections by telling him to do as he was told and walking away. Briefly, he amused himself with the idea of Silverburr sticking that mouse carcass in dear old deputy’s nest instead of burying it – but alas, the lanky tom returned mouse-free, and given that he was about as much fun as Mudpelt high on catnip, Thunderheart figured that the rodent remains had been properly disposed of. What a shame.

A striped shoulder lifted in a surly shrug in response to the other warrior’s words as Silverburr straightened himself up and walked by. Watching as he made his way toward Mudpelt, the young tom briefly entertained the idea of walking away then and there – what if he just let them carry on without him? – but his dear uncle, at least, would never stand for such shirking of responsibilities under his watchful eyes. Indeed, as if sensing his nephew’s rebellious thoughts, the senior warrior turned his sharp yellow eyes in their direction. Pale green met steady yellow. With an annoyed flick of his tail, Thunderheart fell into step behind Silverburr.

The striped tom let out an internal sigh, collecting the annoyance that had been coiling in his gut and shoving to the side. If he was going to be stuck on this patrol with two of LightningClan’s more boring inhabitants, it was up to him to make his own fun – and if, in doing so, he managed to annoy either one of them enough to convince them to leave him behind, well, that would hardly be the end of the world, would it. As they approached him, the brown furred tom ducked his head in greeting to the younger warriors, but before he could get a word in edgewise, Thunderheart plastered on a smile and strode up to him with a bright, "Uncle Mudpelt, so good to see you on this lovely, lovely day." Yellow eyes narrowed at him, but the silver-furred tom waved away the unspoken suspicions with a flick of his tail as they set off.

Mudpelt was smart. He knew his nephew, and he had seen the unhappy look sent in his direction as Silverburr and Thunderheart were walking his way. The striped tom had the reputation as clan troublemaker for a reason. Something was up.

They fell into step beside Silverburr, the senior warrior taking up the position by the lanky tom’s shoulder while Thunderheart followed a short distance behind them. A silver ear flicked at the warrior’s question. "The only thing shady about the TreeClan border are the trees," Thunderheart quipped lightly, before pausing as he reconsidered his words, adding thoughtfully, "And the space under them, I suppose."

Mudpelt very rolled his eyes. "Owlmind didn’t say to look out for anything specific," He answered, turning to Silverburr as he spoke. "Since we established the neutral territory this past leaf-bare, she wants us to make sure our scent markings along our side the border are very clear. We’re supposed to renew the markings, make sure TreeClan hasn’t strayed where they’re not supposed to be, and then we can hunt in the area." Relations with TreeClan had settled since the change of the season, but one could never be too careful. "Or Thunderheart and I can stay and hunt – I saw that you were out on patrol earlier today."

In the back of the group, the youngest of the three kept pace with the two other warriors, only half listening to the information that Mudpelt had shared. He kept his paw steps quiet and his mouth shut, wondering whether they might actually forget he was there if he was quiet enough. It had seemed unlikely at first, but if they were caught up in their own conversation, perhaps he would actually have the chance to just slip away…
