There was an inkling in the air, a crackling tension as though the sky were ready to break at any moment. His amber eyes narrowed in the bitter cold, and he wondered if he tried to leave the camp, would anyone stop him? He had almost become a rogue in his own camp now. His unwillingness to exchange conversation with any of his clanmates had given the tom a reputation as a sullen, unhappy cat. He had always been nervous and jumpy, but his kind nature and friendliness had always been appreciated and his company was sought after regardless of his cowardice. But now, he could see that cats avoided him. He wasn’t even angry with them for doing so, he knew he was always a few fragile pawsteps away from some sort of outburst. He wasn’t coping with the loss of his family well, and his life had quickly divulged into something so alien and unfamiliar that he felt like he was wearing a stranger’s pelt. He didn’t know if he would ever be back to himself again. In fact, he was convinced otherwise. Every time a cat reached out to him, he found a way to push them away. And another thought had been playing through his mind recently. His ear twitched as the terrifying idea resurfaced, his paws itching to carry him away across the borders. But venturing out into the wilderness alone, when he had always had the safety and support of LightningClan, and especially in Leaf-bare… it would be suicide. He still felt a responsibility to hunt for his clanmates, and he knew Briartail and Gorsebelly would want him to at least do that.
