Returning to StoneClan had not been everything she’d thought it would be. Her parents were dead. She still had a hard time accepting that fact. Smokestar was a thing and she just wasn’t ready for it. Every time she saw the she-cat heading up to her father’s den, or coming out, the fur along her spine rose and she wanted to scream at her, for replacing him, for taking what was his, for not being him. Even though she was back she still felt so alone, isolated. Most of the Clan were plenty unhappy with her over what she’d done, particularly since Hawkstar and Frozenrain had died without ever knowing her whereabouts, if she was safe, alive. So many dirty looks and whispers followed her wherever she went. Some days she wondered if coming back had even been the right thing to do. But she couldn’t imagine going back to Tadpole, and she didn’t want to be on her own. Surely everyone would settle down and get over it eventually?
While initially it had seemed normal to Minkfire that she was gaining weight - leafbare was coming to an end, prey was starting to get easier to find, and she was back with her Clan where prey was readily available instead of being hoarded by selfish foxhearts - when a bout of nausea hit her suddenly out of nowhere and she hurried off to the dirt place to relieve the contents of her stomach, she figured maybe ought to see if there was something wrong with her. Her appetite seemed to be bordering on gluttony lately, which at first she had passed off for being some sort of instinct kicking in from starving for several days. But it hadn’t gone away even with a steady food supply back in her life. And now this throwing up nonsense. As if dealing with the news of her parents’ passing wasn’t enough, now she was getting sick.
Thoroughly unhappy, Minkfire trudged toward the medicine den.
“Hey, Minkfire! You’re due on patrol with us!” some cat called, she didn’t care to pay attention to who it was.
“I just threw up, so unless you want me to throw up on you, I’m not going!” she hissed back, continuing on her way with her ears flattened against her head. Her stomach still felt angry. Maybe she’d just eaten a bad piece of prey? Hopefully that was all. Stepping into the medicine den, her icy blue eyes narrowed on the dark form of Ebonyheart and she raised her head, sneering, “Is Sandblaze around? I’m feeling sick and I’d like a real medicine cat’s opinion about it.”
