Curiously gazing up at the strange tree, Magpie had to wonder what exactly had happened to the plant to make it look like that. The loner had traveled for what seemed like ages, crossing into strange lands and meeting some even stranger cats along the way. While there hadn't been many she came across - three in total, loners like herself - she mostly just chatted with them for a short time before heading on her way again. Company hadn't been the highest point on her mind. She knew she had to keep moving, to put distance between herself that blasted twoleg city where her nightmares lurked.
During her journey, the calico had seen many a tree, to the point where in her mind a tree was just a tree. But this particular tree had caught her interest, stopping her as she walked by. She'd never seen one that looked as though it had been turned to stone. Inspecting it further, she could see gouges where other animals had clawed at it, be it cats or otherwise. Why was this singular tree like this and all the rest around it were perfectly healthy? She tilted her head, eyes narrowing in thought for a moment, before shaking her head and turning away. Staring wouldn't suddenly give her the answers she was looking for, and there was no point in hurting her brain trying to figure it out.
A small scurry caught her attention, and turning her head in that direction she saw a lizard scurrying along. At that moment, her stomach rumbled, and she gave a sigh. Might as well try to catch something. The weather was still cold, and snow still littered the branches of the trees and the ground in most places, but at least it was tolerable when the sun rose. Right now it was warm, and prey were out of their holes and dens.
It was time to do some hunting.
Getting into a crouch, Magpie began stalking towards the lizard, intent on catching her midday meal.
NewLeaf 3- It's still cold during the early morning hours though temperatures continue to rise with the sun, the sky is fairly clear save for a few fluffy clouds and a cool breeze. (March 10, 2020)
