Tigereye padded along with his sister, happy for her company and enjoying the nice day. It was likely one of the last the valley would have before leaf-bare set in, which was a big reason the two of them had gone out today. He and Kindleflare had gone separate ways in order to be more efficient in their search for herbs, taking advantage of what was left of the nice weather to stock up before they no longer had the option. Hopefully the coming leaf-bare would be mild and they wouldn’t have to deal with too much sickness. His fur brushed his sister’s much longer coat as they walked and he leaned his shoulder into hers briefly, affectionately. “Thanks for helping me today. It seems like it’s been a while since we spent much time together.” He looked ahead thoughtfully for a moment, “Do you think you’ll get an apprentice soon?” His whiskers twitched with some amusement as he looked back at his sister, “Do you want one?”He was very aware that his sister had little patience. Except with him, at least. Lynxfire had always been strangely patient with him, like she was with no one else. He wondered what sort of mentor she would make. If she could just tap into whatever she felt for him and apply it to her apprentice, he was sure she’d be great, but… well, he hadn’t really witnessed such a thing before. Perhaps she would be a good mentor for a certain type of apprentice, but he could just as easily see it going badly. Not that he would tell her that. He knew she wanted to be leader one day and in order to do that she would need an apprentice so she could become deputy first. He wanted to support her, like she always supported him, but he was curious if she had really thought about it yet. Taxx Leaf-fall 24 A clear and blue sky greets the valley, and though it is chilly, the light winds are pleasant.

Just like fire, burning out the way Lynxfire had been more than happy to accept her brother's invitation to come with him; it was only a patrol to watch over him as he collected herbs, and some cats might have been surprised at her willingness to get landed with the duty, but Tigereye was her littermate and she'd jumped at the chance to tag along.
She was watchful, eyes and ears alert as the two padded along, and an easy purr broke loose as the ginger tom brushed his shoulder against hers. "You don't have to thank me. You're right, anyway, it's been too long. We're both so busy with our jobs." Tigereye and Kindleflare were out more often these days, gathering as much as possible before leafbare moved in, and while Lynxfire's duties hadn't increased, there was still a lot to occupy her and spending time with her brother had been low on that list of priorities. But this? The good weather, the easy companionship... they might be adults, but it was the same close relationship it'd always been.
"Oh, I hope so! It would mean Redstar thought I had stuff worth teaching a kit, right? And, you know I can't be deputy without an apprentice. I'll make them as good a warrior as Redstar made me." For a moment she was lost in the dream, teaching a little fresh-made apprentice everything she knew, but with a blink and a shake of her head she reminded herself of the task at paw. "Maybe soon? I guess we'll see. You'll know when I do, I'm sure." LynxFirE lightningclan warrior If I can light the world up for just one day @zen

Tigereye purred softly at Lynxfire’s hopefulness about receiving an apprentice. He himself wouldn’t have to concern himself over the idea for many moons yet, and he was quite content with that. His heart panged painfully at the idea that his future apprentice might not get to meet Kindleflare, except perhaps in dreams. She could retire to the elder’s den, of course, and perhaps the two would meet, but who could say? He shook his head slightly to dismiss those thoughts. They didn’t matter right now. “I hope so too,” he mewed earnestly, “I’m sure any apprentice you train will be a fierce warrior.” How could they not be, with a teacher like Lynxfire? He just hoped they could handle his fiery sister. He slowed as they neared the mountain border of LightningClan’s territory, heading toward a patch of ragwort, bob tail flicking happily as he came upon the plant. It grew best either toward the mountain border or the StoneClan border and he preferred not to test Clan tensions if he could help it, even if he was a medicine cat. He began carefully removing some of the leaves, setting them in a neat pile, when someone called his name. “Hey! Tigereye!”He paused in his work to look up, seeing Hemlock’s familiar form heading toward the border, and an unfamiliar tortoiseshell who he assumed was the sister he’d spoken about, but the tom stopped when he saw Lynxfire, one paw raised, clearly considering whether or not he needed to run away. Tigereye stepped forward and put himself between the loner and his sister, greeting him warmly, “Hi Hemlock.” He glanced back at Lynxfire, “This is my sister, Lynxfire.” He introduced her, and then him, “This is Hemlock. I’ve been teaching him a little about herbs so he can take care of himself and his sister if they get sick or hurt.” His ears twitched uncertainly at the admission, for he still wasn’t certain just what others might think about him sharing his knowledge with a loner. There wasn’t anything in any code about it, warrior or medicine cat. He saw no harm in it. It could only do good to teach others how to care for themselves. Hemlock took a hesitant step forward, “Nice to meet you Lynxfire.” His tail flicked toward his sister, “This is my sister Adderpool.”Tigereye dipped his head in greeting to the she-cat, glancing back at Lynxfire, unsure just how she was going to take this. Just like fire, burning out the way A grin met Tigereye's words, pleased by his assurance at her ability, and as he settled to start gathering she turned her attention to scanning the area around them both, on edge for anything that might decide to rear its ugly head. She'd had visions of foxes, badgers, maybe a bird swooping down from above- cats had been low on her list of possible threats, so when the call went up, her initial thought was to disregard it. Until she registered the unfamiliar voice, calling her brother by name.
She spun around, spotting the gray-and-white tom instantly and feeling a surge of distaste and protectiveness welling up as Tigereye stepped forward to greet him. He put himself between her and the stranger, but Lynxfire was having none of that, moving around to stand at her brother's side as she eyed the stranger, her fur bushing as she stared him down. Vaguely, she recalled Eaglescreech mentioning chasing off some gray tom, spewing a tale of his bravado in the face of a dangerous foe: this cat didn't look all that dangerous. He was taller than she, with a fair bit of muscle, but not really a threat. And he was a loner. Eaglescreech was so full of hot air.
She wasn't as certain of the cat padding at the so-called Hemlock's side, her stout tortoiseshell body settling into a sit; Adderpool, as the tom introduced her, gave a calm dip of her head in greeting. "Hemlock has spoken of you. I'm glad to meet you: a friend of my brother's is a friend of mine."
"Psh!" Lynxfire spat, claws sliding from her sheaths as she cast a withering glance at Hemlock, shifting to partially block her brother from both loners. "I think he could do better than the likes of you where a friend's concerned. I wouldn't trust either of you as far as I could throw you. Go crawl back into whatever mudhole you climbed out of and leave him alone, or I'll teach you both a lesson you won't ever forget."
Adderpool never blinked, meeting Lynxfire's narrowed gaze without a shred of fear or concern changing her expression; she glanced away, at Hemlock and then at Tigereye. "This isn't going to turn in to a fight, is it? I'd rather not, thank you. I only wanted to talk." LynxFirE lightningclan warrior If I can light the world up for just one day @zen

Lynxfire didn’t let him stand between her and his friend for long, and Tigereye pressed lightly against his sister’s side both as a form of reassurance and as though he might be able to anchor her to the spot if she decided Hemlock and his sister were a threat and decided to attack. Adderpool spoke, her words nothing but polite, and he had opened his mouth to respond but Lynxfire spoke first, moving to shield him from the two loners. His ears flicked back against his head at her threat and he hissed softly, more pleading than angry, “Lynxfire….” He cast her a disapproving look as he stepped around her, just as Adderpool inquired about the hostility. His gaze snapped back to the tortoiseshell and he shook his head, “N-no! Of course not.” He cast another look at Lynxfire, “Please, stop. Hemlock is my friend. There aren’t many cats I can talk about herbs with who actually care. We’ve been meeting for a while, he’s not dangerous, so please stop being rude.” He strode forward then before she could stop him to stand with the two on the other side of the border, explaining to them both, “She’s just protective, don’t hold it against her. I’m… I’m not very good at protecting myself. She’s always been around to keep me safe.” There was clear fondness in his tone when he said so, looking back to Lynxfire quickly. Hemlock’s whiskers twitched with some amusement, bumping his shoulder to Adderpool’s affectionately, “Sisters are pretty great, huh?”Tigereye purred, “Indeed. I’m glad to finally meet you Adderpool. Hemlock’s told me a lot about you too.” He found her warrior’s name a bit confusing. Hemlock seemed to have a decent knowledge of the Clans for being a loner, but he’d never said anything about being from a Clan, and yet his sister had a warrior’s name. He realized then that Hemlock had never actually mentioned her by name before, only referring to her as his sister. Had he done that deliberately? Had they been exiled from one of the other Clans? His fur prickled uneasily at the idea, but Hemlock had never shown any aggression toward him, only open curiosity and a hunger for learning about his craft. He was curious, but wasn’t sure it would be right to ask. He valued Hemlock’s friendship and he didn’t want to ruin it. “So what herb were you collecting just now?” Hemlock’s voice broke him from his thoughts, the tom glancing past him to the abandoned pile of leaves he’d already collected. “O-oh… ragwort. It’s a strengthening herb, really good for queens about to give birth. It also helps with joint pain,” Tigereye’s gaze shifted to Adderpool briefly, “You’re both pretty young so I doubt you’d really need it for joint pain any time soon.” But if Adderpool ever decided to have kits, it could definitely help her through the ordeal of her kitting. He definitely wasn’t going to comment on that, however. Taxx

Adderpool "I see things no one else sees." The tabby warrior was fidgeting consistently, ears back and eyes narrowed in a clearly aggressive stance. Adderpool flicked a glance at her from time to time, more to keep tabs on her than out of wariness, but otherwise decided not to pay her much attention. She might attack, and if so then Adderpool would react accordingly, but until then she was just a twitchy presence hovering at Tigereye's side.
"Hmph!" she snorted, never relaxing as she continued to glare at Hemlock and Adderpool. But she didn't reply further, simply stayed close- and coiled to repel any attack the loners might make. Tigereye might trust them, but she had never been so quick to put faith in anyone, and she couldn't imagine these two had such an innocent reason for hanging around her brother.
For her part, Adderpool followed Hemlock's gaze toward the leaves, ears pricked to hear Tigereye's answer and nodding along. "May I see one, to know what it looks like? Hemlock might be the more skilled, but I should learn some too. Healing is a skill worth knowing."
"Being a warrior's important too," Lynxfire broke in, refusing to be left out, and again her gaze met Adderpool's. "Speaking of warriors, what's up with your name? Why's he-" she jabbed a paw in Hemlock's direction- "have a short name, while yours is a warrior's name?" Her eyes flashed, head dropping a bit while her shoulders hunched; she blinked, caught completely off guard as the tortoiseshell chose that moment to yawn, showing hardly a trace of guilt or wariness at Lynxfire's pointed question.
"Does a name have to be one or the other?" she asked, lifting a paw to wash it before rubbing it over one dark ear. "My name is... me. It is my birth name and who I grew to be. Warrior or loner, who it belongs to shouldn't matter." Calm as ever, she stared at Lynxfire again, who blinked back and then glanced away, looking a bit uncertain at the unshakable demeanor of the tortoiseshell she-cat. "You were saying, Tigereye?" Adderpool prompted, turning her attention back toward the ginger medicine cat. @zen || Notes

Tigereye nodded, about to head back to bring a ragwort leaf over for them both to see, when Lynxfire spoke again. His ears flicked back briefly as he was unsure if she was about to insult his guests again, though chances were high she was. Hemlock shifted uncomfortably at his sister’s question, which didn’t go unnoticed by Tigereye, but it was Adderpool who answered. He blinked at her in surprise at the eloquent response and purred softly, appreciating it. Lynxfire for her part just seemed a bit confused. Mildly amused, he did his best not to show it, instead leaning over to brush his fur with his sister’s briefly. Adderpool brought the conversation back around to the ragwort and he nodded again, “Oh, right!”As he padded the few steps back to fetch one, Hemlock studied Lynxfire for a moment, “Your name suits you.” His whiskers twitched in amusement. He wasn’t sure what he’d imagined when Tigereye mentioned his sister, but this seemed about right? Perhaps a bit more than he had expected. She seemed to have a decent temper, though he couldn’t exactly blame her suspicion. Tigereye was a medicine cat after all, he was very important to her Clan while also being her brother. He wouldn’t have a warrior’s training so he would have minimal ability to defend himself. “I would never hurt your brother, you know. He’s already taught me a lot, and he didn’t have to. I really appreciate it.”Tigereye returned, settling the leaf down between them, “There you are. Ragwort. The leaves are very rounded and, as you can see,” he gestured with his nose back toward the plant he had been harvesting from, “They have tall stems with yellow flowers. There are several herbs that have tall yellow flowers though, so be careful not to mix them up. Fennel is one, it wouldn’t hurt you, but it doesn’t have the round leaves so it’s not too difficult to tell apart. And goldenrod’s flowers are more… fuzzy, without the distinct petals.”Taxx

Just like fire, burning out the way Lynxfire's gaze flicked toward and away from Adderpool repeatedly, utterly lost at her lack of response, which Lynxfire was used to. Either an aggressive, snappish reaction or a wary, nervous one would have driven her to a greater frenzy, but Adderpool simply refused to rise to the bait, which left Lynxfire on uncertain ground. She watched Tigereye pad back to pick up one of the leaves he'd picked, and then turned to pin her green eyes on Hemlock. "My name is me, too," she growled, straightening and letting her claws slide into view as the loner went on to offer her brother praise. "I don't know what game you're playing, but I still don't trust you and I'm warning you if you ever hurt him..."
She broke off as her brother returned but never lightened her glower as the medicine cat laid the leaf down and explained its purpose to the two. Adderpool bent her head to sniff at the herb, studying it and breathing in the scent to familiarize herself with it, while listening to Tigereye explain the uses and how it differed in appearance from others. "Can we take this one, so that we'll have..."
"No!" Lynxfire snapped, cutting her off before she could finish and lashing out, planting her paw over the leaf and raking it back closer to her, hindquarters rocking with the indignant twitch of her stub tail. "Go find your own, these belong to LightningClan." Bending her head, she picked up the leaf with the barest of contact with her tongue- not that it helped and it still tasted disgusting- and turned to return it to the pile Tigereye had already collected.
Adderpool watched her go and then turned back to Tigereye. "Defensive, isn't she?" the tortoiseshell remarked, her tone as neutral as ever with no hints of anger at the harsh demeanor of the tabby she-cat. "I bet she's a good warrior."
