As much as the dilute calico wished that she could disagree with the statement that fell from Elkheart's jaws, she could not. She hadn't come into the territory today to search for a lost, potentially dead clanmate, yet that was what her day had become. Willingly so, of course, as she would gladly seek out any of her clanmates, Starclan forbid they go missing. None of the trio knew for sure if they would find Yarrowtail alive when they went for this search party. Even though this fact was absolute in her mind, it hadn't made this situation any easier.
Bright but dulled in emotion, the Warrioress' eyes slowly scanned over the body of her now deceased clanmate. She wished that they would have found the she-cat sooner, though perhaps that would not have made a difference. They didn't know for sure how long the silver tabby had been gone or stuck beneath the ice. That alone meant that the chances of finding her alive in the first place was slim to none.
As Moosejaw's hearty tone filled her ears, Waterstep turned, her immediate thought being to assist in the returning of their clanmate's body. But her notion was quickly turned down as the tom's eyes fell on her and his voice spoke once more. In truth, she hadn't truly paid any mind to the cold that pressed tightly against her skin along her legs, chest, and face. She had been too preoccupied in the rescue and the adrenaline that kept her going to notice. But now that the thought of warmth bloomed in her mind, a shiver ran along the she-cat's spine, the slight numbness creeping through her quickly. She did not want to go back to camp without providing further assistance, but it wasn't as if she hadn't already played a part in this whole scenario. She had dove beneath a layer of ice that could have killed her, had it not been for the strength of the two brothers, in order to rescue this she-cat, and she had done so without hesitation. While her skills had given her the advantage in the act of physically removing the she-cat's limp body from the water, she couldn't deny that the two tom's before her would have a much easier time carrying the body back to camp than she would.
"Fine then. Don't lose your path, else I'll have to fish the two of you from the jaws of Leafbare as well, " the calico stated, glancing between the two brothers with the smallest hint of amusement. With this, she offered a final glance to the lifeless body next to her. She did wish to send the she-cat off with a parting, but there would be time for that when she was returned to camp. She could offer her condolences to the she-cat's family. Given that she would be arriving to camp first, this also would allow her to inform everyone that the missing she-cat had been found, despite the state that she was being returned in.
The feline stood, turning and beginning a first slow pace back towards camp, giving her muscles the chance to adjust to the movement again. As the bloodflow returned to her legs, her paws slowly quickened into a trot, a light breeze sending further chills along her sides. The ground was cold beneath her paws and the gentle crushing of snow filled her ears at each step, the path back to camp one that was easy to find. As she trotted, she did feel regret at finding her clanmate in such a way. She could only imagine what it had been like to end up where Yarrowtail had.
At least we found her. We can return her to the clan safely and send her to Starclan properly.
