` Gullswoop: words . tags
"Owlpaw, hurry up," Gullswoop's tone was far from demanding, a soft chuckle easing out after his statement. His daughter's call back from the depth of the den came to him, letting him know she was just cleaning up the last bit of her nest. In no hurry, Gullswoop sat and began to groom his forepaw, easing away bits of dried dirt. Rarely one of care about his appearance, he felt the need due to the annoyance of the sensation. Lost in the task, he came out of it the moment Owlpaw's tail brushed over his shoulder. She carried a bundle of moss in her jaw, he watched her a moment before following after. Cutting her off just near the camp entrance, where his current apprentice Wavepaw had been waiting.
"Let's go," Tail flicking to signal, Gullswoop led them out of camp and to one of the well-worn paths to the river. Owlpaw easily kept pace with her father, their pelts brush against each other. Her eyes trained on the trail ahead.
Have you given any more thought about talking to Silverstar?" Gullswoop's words were carefully chosen, Owlpaw's head to turn quickly, almost causing her to stumble in her step.
"I'm not ready," She told him, her voice edging on annoyed from the start.
"You can't be a -paw forever,"
"I know, now please drop it," She snapped, slowing her steps entirely. Gullswoop was not the type to push further and continued this pace. Owlpaw was no walking beside Wavepaw, she offered him a forced smile. A vain attempt to rid herself of the emotions stirred up by her father's question.
"Do you prefer fishing or land hunting,?" She asked, curious as always.
Justice - for Silverstar tiny mention, I headcanon that Owlpaw has refused her warrior ceremony because she doesn't feel ready to be a warrior.

Wavepaw 10 Moons . Rainclan Apprentice
The young tom had been up nearly as early as his mentor had been, excited about training today. The growing apprentice had always been the type to rise early and be ready for what the day had to bring him. His larger mentor had informed him that fishing was on today's schedule, which brightened the light within his green eyes. His heart still ached from the loss of his mother in Leafbare, but he had pushed pasted the pain to continue working hard for Lizardleap as she watched him and Sunpaw from Starclan. Today would be no different.
And besides, the blue-gray tom absolutely loved the water.
They weren't going to be alone today thought, as Wavepaw finished up his quick breakfast he noticed Gullswoop waiting on his daughter who still held her apprentice title, despite her age and knowledge. This didn't bother him so much, the more the merrier in his opinion, as he enjoyed any training sessions with his own brother. Quickly swiping a paw over his muzzle to clean it, the blue-gray feline padded quickly after the father-daughter pair as they made their way from Rainclan's camp and out into the waiting territory.
Trailing behind the two, Wavepaw got lost in his own head. He was curious as to what he might be able to catch in the river today, maybe a large trout that he and Sunpaw could share while exchanging training stories later in the evening. Amused with the idea of finding a fish as large as himself, the younger apprentice hadn't been aware Owlpaw had dropped to walk beside him until she spoke. He gave a small jump, trying to keep his sleek fur from standing on end, though a warm feeling rose underneath his pelt.
Quickly looking at Owlpaw next to him, Wavepaw found himself gazing into her blue eyes, like pools of water themselves. He had never see eyes of such a beautiful color. Even Lizardleap's clear blue pools hadn't been nearly as enrapturing as the she-cat's next to him. Feeling his ears grow hot, Wavepaw quickly looked away so he didn't gawk at the older apprentice like a awestruck kit. He tried to recall the question she had asked, remnants of it still circling around in his head.
Did he prefer fishing or hunting?
"Probably fishing, I've always enjoyed the water more." Of course, that was like saying a Treeclanner enjoyed trees more. Which of course caused that warmth under his fur to heat up even more. Could he be even more of a fish-brain at the moment. The young tom had never had any trouble talking to cats, he had always been upbeat and happy and now with Owlpaw he was practically tripping over his own paws like a newborn kit.
"What do you like?" He asked, cautiously taking another glance at Owlpaw.

She smiled at his reply, she took enjoyed the water but much to her fur's dismay. Like her grandfather Vultureback, Owlpaw's pelt leaned toward the thick side. It often resulted in her feeling heavy while in the water but it only furthered her swimming skill. Strength and stamina while swimming remained her forte. While she remained fairly slow compared to her long-limbed father who seemed to swim like a fish, she could keep up with most.
Wavepaw's returned questioned eased the tension from her shoulders even more. Despite what she assumed her father thought about her, Owlpaw wasn't in a hurry to obtain her warrior name. Not till she felt that she earned it. Thankful that Wavepaw was friendly helped ease her own worries about staying in the apprentice den.
"I'm a pretty good fisher, but my aunt Willowbreeze insisted I be a good land hunter as well. Be capable to provide for RainClan no matter the situation, but I agree fishing is more fun," She answered, ears flicking awkwardly when she realized just how much she ever explained herself.
Gullswoop paused just before the river bank, flicking his tail to various fishing nooks along the river's edge. "Pick a spot and start fishing, I'll help you both if I notice something off," He told them both, dismissing himself as he traveled a little further down the river toward his own spot.

Wavepaw 10 Moons . Rainclan Apprentice
Whether she had meant to or not, the younger apprentice could see how Owlpaw relaxed the more the padded towards the designed destination behind Gullswoop. The blue-gray tom couldn't help the fact that a small smile found it's way to his maw, lighting up his own gentle but mischievous expression. Despite the fact that his heart was still hammering away within his chest, the young tom managed to hold Owlpaw's brilliant blue gaze once more.
The younger of the two apprentices found his whiskers wriggling with amusement as she spoke about her aunt and the needed skill of land hunting. It made him think of his own mother, Lizardleap, and she had been an excellent land hunter. Though, her father had been from Treeclan and as such didn't know how to hunt for fish nor did he enjoy the water as much as the other Rainclanners. Sunpaw had been rather efficient at hunting among the reeds and banks as well, but when it came to scooping fish out of the water, Wavepaw shined just as brightly as his brother's name.
Arriving along the banks, Wavepaw flickered an ear as his mentor gave out instructions. Green pools watched as the older warrior made his way farther down the banks, his own gaze eyeing the moving water as he tried to spot a fish or two under the surface. After a moment the younger of the two apprentices turned his attention to the softly gurgling river by his paws, and after picking a spot near Owlpaw he lowered his haunches to sit. Moons of fixing his hunting skill taught him to make sure his shadow or reflection hovered over the river surface. It would scare away any chance of catching anything.
Unfortunatly, the young tom's green eyes shifted away from the river to gaze at Owlpaw once more. Once again the warm feeling rose underneath his short, dim colored pelt. Wavepaw had always gotten along very well with other cats, whether they were old or young, tom or she-cat. He grew up loved and gave the same family like love to those around him, after all they were all Rainclan. He had never felt so funny around a cat before, and it wasn't like a bad funny. He didn't really mind it, well maybe his heart could beat a little less franticlly, but otherwise he could live with it.
"Learning to hunt on land can have it's uses." His voice was barely a whisper, enough for Owlpaw to hear him but not enough to disturb his surroundings. A tiny sliver of silver within blue quickly changed his green gaze from the she-cat next to him to the water in front of him, pupils narrowing sharply. Quick as lightning a blue paw shot out, claws ripping through the liquid surface to sink into scaly flesh below and yanking it into the air. In another swift motion Wavepaw had successfully captured and killed a brightly colored trout, it's scent practically mouth watering as he shot a happy look to his clanmate.
"Fishing is better though." His comment left a smile upon his face, brightening those emerald pools. Despite his cheesy statement and smooth demenor, Wavepaw was a bundle of nerves underneath his streamline pelt. He couldn't believe he had managed such a slick catch, if he had missed he would have been so embaressed. But why? Wavepaw didn't normally care what others thought of him, but yet he wanted Owlpaw to see how good of a warrior he had trained to be.

Her father's dismissal was all she needed before setting her self to the task. Owlpaw felt it more important to be good at most things opposed to being great at one thing. In the same way, a willow tree swayed in the wind, never breaking because it adjusted. She preferred that approach to her training and life in general.
Too much-ridged thinking left one's self deaf and blind to new solutions. For her, thinking out of the box came naturally as did her curious questions. Much to the elder's annoyance. Her near-constant inquires about how things worked oftentimes exhausted the elders. Earning her a sweet but stern look which often times had her sulking out of the elder's den to seek her aunt. Willowbreeze had a calm personality, which comforted Owlpaw in every aspect. Willowbreeze never stifled Owlpaw's curiosity about the world but did try to reel them in to focus on her training a bit more.
Owlpaw's trial and error approach to training led her to experiment. One such experiment came in the form of how she fished. Prior to sitting down, she turned her paws toward a few leaves. Seeking out the driest of the nearby bundles. After gathering a bundle, she gently nosed one to the water in her fishing spot, watching it bob slightly. It acted like one those bugs that were often seen darting across the surface of the water.
A few heartbeats later, a fish braved the surface to 'catch' the bug-leaf. Owlpaw swooped in, jabbing with a forepaw. Her silver-painted fish landed and dead from a quick bite, Owlpaw shifted her attention fully to Wavepaw and his own catch. Impressed with his catch, her smile widened and eyes gleamed. Pride warmed her chest, it was always a good moment when prey was caught. One less hungry clanmate, one more day that RainClan would go on.
"That was great!" She praised taking a moment to push her fish out of the direct sunlight. "Can we share that later when we get home? My stomach is growling just looking at it," Her request with genuine, having preferred trout over all other fish found in their territory.

Owlpaw was clever, elegant even as she devised a plan to snag the prey from the depths of the water. He didn't miss the trick either, the leaf she deployed was used to lure it in. She tricked the fish, how incredibly brilliant.
"You did a great job too, I've never seen a cat do that before." Wavepaw praised the older she-cat, a smile upon both his blue maw and the emerald of his gaze. The blue-gray tom would have to remember to ask her to teach him that later on.
Though, upon her own praise followed by her request, that feeling of growing heat was present underneath his short, sleek pelt once more.
Owlpaw wanted to share prey with him, and she wanted to share the fish that he managed to snag so smoothly. It wasn't that Wavepaw had never shared food with a cat before, hell he and Sunpaw did it all the time since neither of them ever had large appetites.
He felt giddy at the request, but also really happy that he could spend more time with the older apprentice. Despite having only really hung out with her today during training, the youngster found he rather enjoyed being around her. He also rather liked having her here while he was training. Gullswoop was a good mentor, but Owlpaw was at least closer to his age than her father was.
Regardless of how the slender tom felt upon the inside, that warm gaze of his was brilliant as he responded with a chipper tone. "Of course, I'd be honored to share my catch." He gave a goofy grin, mocking a playful bow before snickering at his foolishness. He somehow managed to be somewhat charming through it all, even if he wasn't intentionally trying. He just happened to find him being himself around the older she-cat.

Warmth filled her cheeks at Wavepaw's praise. It was nice for it to be recognized by someone else. Her parents praised her often and while she appreciated it, it didn't feel the same. Her tail flicked lazily as he agreed to share the prey with her once they got back. A joyous expression filled her eyes. She truly looked forward to the moment, realizing at that moment that Wavepaw would be good company. Despite their age difference.
Turning back toward the water, she considered for a brief moment going back to fishing. Her father's towering frame encompassed the duo. Looking at him, she noted the two small fish he had in his jaw. It seemed that their trip was coming to an end.
A sliver of guilt rode up her spine, while they were chatting he had been fishing. However, Gullswoop didn't seem annoyed and in fact, looked pleased.
"Alright you two, grab what you got and let's head back. We got hungry cats to feed," He told them while maintaining his gentle grip on the fish. Owlpaw dipped her head in agreement, taking her catch. She paused long enough to lock eyes with Wavepaw. Offering him a small smile she followed after Gullswoop, trotting to keep up.
