The sun stood proudly at it's peak. No shadows were cast, nothing to tempt the Clan into thoughts of sorrow. It was to be a glorious day. Firestar asked everyone to be home by sunhigh, eat a small meal and wait for a meeting to be called. From where she sat just outside her den. The warm sun easing into her dull coat, bringing out the colors. 

Brightpool groomed her pelt lazily in the warmth of the sun. Kits toyed with a dried up mossball, an elder had ventured out to watch over the future warrior. It was moments like this that brought back a sliver of hope to Firestar's gradually growing frame. Grief still pulled at her heart and recovery remained slow but steady. What more could she ask for?

Climbing the hill to stand before her Clan, she gave a yowl. Gathering the attention of those around her. Patiently waiting for the Clan to come together, her eyes fell upon Lynxpaw. It was time.

"Lynxpaw, please step forward," Her pride as a mother shone through in the strength of her words. Once Lynxpaw stood before her, she continued to speak. "I call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice." Firestar paused, giving a moment for it all to sink in. "She has trained hard to understand the ways of our code, I commend her to you as a warrior. Lynxpaw do you promise to uphold the warrior code, protect and defend your Clan even at the cost of your life?" No mother would be happy to state such words, but traditions demanded so. She waited for Lynxpaw's vow, quietly praying that StarClan would grant her a long life.

Lynxpaw's vow spoken, Firestar couldn't stifle the purr that sounded for just the two of them to hear. This moment wasn't Firestar naming a warrior. It was a mother recognizing that her daughter was ready to go on her own. Firestar knew she'd always worry and fret but she'd have to let go. Accept what she could not change and embrace the future that no one knew. 

"Then by the power of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Lynxpaw, from this moment you will be known as Lynxfire. I give you this name not out of vanity. You are like fire, capable of everything. You have faced every challenge no matter large. You are a warrior that LightningClan can be proud of. StarClan honors your ferocity and determination, and we welcome you as a full warrior of LightningClan," The moment the ceremony concluded, Firestar was the fire to shout her daughter's new name. Proclaimed it loudly for Lynxfire was worthy of such praise.

Lynxfire

Firestar had asked the Clan to be present in the camp by sunhigh. Lynxpaw hadn't questioned that part, imagining that she had a meeting to call that she wanted them all to be present for. Not until Firestar approached her did she suspect anything, but the first inkling of anticipation began to make her paws itch as the older she-cat set about grooming Lynxpaw's thick pelt. Green eyes peered at the calico silently for a moment, but she said nothing until Firestar had finished; her tabby fur probably cleaner than it had been in moons, sleek and shining in the sun. "Do you think I'm ready?" she asked- half challenge, considering her earlier words of caution, and half excitement, eyes gleaming as Firestar answered.

"I think it's time I stop holding on and let you go, let you be the warrior you were always meant to be."

Lynxpaw bolted to her paws, standing tall before her mother. "I'll be the best! I won't let you down, ever!" Firestar purred and started to lean in, only to hesitate and withdraw again, her expression suddenly wary. Lynxpaw blinked at her and a heartbeat passed before she reached forward and brushed her cheek against her mother's. Then she was bouncing off, calling over her shoulder, "I'm gonna go tell Tigerpaw!"

She was waiting by the apprentices' den when Firestar climbed the hill, and her call to the Clan to gather sent Lynxpaw's heart to beating faster as a thrill of excitement swept through her once more. She waited, paws shifting impatiently for Firestar to call to her, and as she did Lynxpaw straightened and padded toward her mother and leader, pausing at the foot of the hill and looking steadily up at her as the calico went through the ceremonial words, and then asked for her vow. "I do!" she answered, her whole body quivering with the rush of success that she was here at last. "I will!"

She waited then, to hear what name her mother would give her, and she could not help the fierce grin that crossed her face at the name, and the reasons given for it. Oh, yes, she would teach all of them just how much she would burn them if they dared mess with LightningClan. Lynxfire!

The Clan cheered her new name and she spun to face them, panting from the exhilaration of the moment. Finally, finally, she was a warrior.

Tigerpaw sat with his sister as they waited for Firestar to call the Clan together. A soft purr emanated from him, happiness and pride for his littermate and he leaned over to rasp his tongue over her ear affectionately as their mother finally ascended the hill. And then she was padding away from him, ready to receive her new name and move into the next stage of her life. It would likely be some time yet before he had his own full name, but he didn’t mind waiting. He certainly didn’t want his name before he was ready, and he was sure there was plenty more he could learn from Kindleflare. Not that he would ever stop learning even after he earned his name. There were some things that were rare or freak accidents, like Blazefang’s broken leg that had never healed right. He couldn’t learn how to deal with it first paw unless it happened, though he would be perfectly happy to never learn. Broken bones were certainly not something he would wish on any cat.

But as Firestar spoke, any thoughts about his own training and future washed away. Lynxpaw gave her promise and Firestar finally spoke his sister’s full name. He released a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding while he’d waited to hear what it might be. Lynxfire. He purred at how fitting it was. He stood to call his sister’s name with the rest of the Clan as the ceremony came to a close, musing at how all the shouting at ceremonies used to frighten him as a kit. The memory of Russetfall comforting him struck him as he padded forward to greet his sister by her new name properly, butting his head against her shoulder gently, purr rumbling, “Lynxfire is a great name.” He was sure their father was watching proudly from StarClan.

Lightningpaw sat beside her siblings when the meeting was called, gazing up at Firestar hopefully. When Lynxpaw was called forward, she gasped softly. Lynxpaw was becoming a warrior! She couldn’t wait to find out what her new name would be. She would definitely be one of the first to call her by it. She leaned forward slightly, eager and impatient. Lynxfire! She nearly called it out right then, but Firestar wasn’t done talking so she clamped her jaws shut. When Firestar started the call, Lightningpaw excitedly joined in and hopped to her paws, pushing forward to greet the new warrior in a rush of words that tumbled freely from her maw, “Congratulations, Lynxfire! That’s such a cool name. You’re gonna be such an amazing warrior. Uhm, maybe - if you have time, I mean - I could train with you a little still?” Her wide green gaze was full of awe, as if she was staring at a StarClan cat come down to visit among the Clan.
