Newleaf 11, 6
A half-moon rests firmly in the sky. The wind is howling. Grasses and leaves alike toss too and fro as the gales whip violently across the territories. As the half-moon reaches it's peak and te medicine cats have gathered. Ready to venture to the Moon Tree and dreams themselves with StarClan.
Dewfrost treads carefully along the path to the Moon Tree. A trio of warriors walk beside her, mindful of the now stoic she-cat. She arrives first and asks her warrior clan-mates to stay near for warmth. They depart the moment the wind carries the fresh scent of the next arriving medicine cat.
Attending with her is: Falconheart, Coldrush and Bitternwing
With the wind blowing fiercely it made the walk to the Moon Tree even longer than usual for the small patrol of Stoneclan cats, the sliver of moon in the sky rising slowly on the inky darkness around it. Rubble and dust was kicked up from the surrounding rocky terrain all around them, causing the need to squint in order not to get sand within the eyes. Sandblaze led the way, quiet the entire time as Ebonypaw's growing form trailed only slightly behind. The young apprentice didn't look to pleased at the fact her long coat was being thrown ever which way, but kept from complaining as she padded alongside the warriors escorting them both to the mountains as well as on the way back home. With a quick murmur to the waiting warriors, Sandblaze and Ebonypaw made their way up the harsher, rockier side of the mountain towards where they would meet up with the other clans' healers.
Attending with them: Cloudfall, Foxtrot and Whitefur.
Falconstorm left earlier than his usual time in order to reach Moon Tree as soon as possible. He has little interest in going, but that he wants to see Kindleflare and check on the other up and coming medicine cats. He is followed by two warriors who thankfully don't question his early rising and leave taking. He leaves the warriors below and continues on once they arrive, sitting outside Moon Tree to await the others and greeting each in turn as they show up.
Attending with him: two warriors.
Shadowchaser of NightClan arrives with a quiet smile, offering a solemn greeting to his peers. Crowflame and Brindlemask have accompanied him, and he quietly dismisses the two warriors and joins the gathered cats.
Attending with him: Crowflame and Brindlemask
The ginger-coated medicine cat of LightningClan arrives among a patrol headed by the intimidating tuxedo form of her brother and his sleek coated mate. Padding timidly with her ears back just behind them, Kindleflare remains close to her apprentice Tigerpaw as the four cats clamber over muddied terrain. Newleaf has brought with it a reprieve from the cold, and it shows in the shedding of thick winter coats. Upon arrival, and dismissed by the stammering healer, Nightstep and Palescreech pad away to await the journey home. Dark amber eyes glimmer warmly in the darkness as Kindleflare taps Tigerpaw reassuringly on the shoulder with her tail. Leading the way to join a throng of comforting and familiar faces, her hopeful gaze searches out her closest her friend, Falconstorm.

Ebonypaw, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams Greetings had been quick and proper by all attending parties. With the wind whipping about and the moon crawling higher within the sky it didn't take long for group of cats to gather around the famed white tree within the mountain side.
Moon Tree.
It seemed to be practically glowing as the weak light from the crescent moon touched it. Pale green eyes stared at it for a moment once the youngest of the group finally padded up to it's twisted roots.
It was her second time here. The first had been her initial meeting with the other Medicine Cats. Her ceremony had been preformed and her name marked as a healer for her clan. The black coated she-cat had also met her Starclan Guide, a cat that would aid her throughout her life as a Medicine Cat in Stoneclan.
Mintleaf.
Wondering if she would meet the young, energetic she-cat again, Ebonypaw gave a proper nod to those around her, including her mentor Sandblaze, before curling up comfortably at the chilly, white roots of the Moon Tree. Her nub like tail twitched once as her pale gaze closed, sleep drawing her in quickly.
It only seemed like she had closed her eyes but for a second before a familiar voice danced within the inner softness of her ears.
"Ebonypaw!"
Ears pricked as the black feline lifted her head from the comfortable spot upon her large paws. Pale green opened to the star studded forest around her before landing on the young, gray she-cat across from her.
Ebonypaw had been absolutely awe-struck the first time she visited Starclan within her dreams. The way the trees shimmered and shifted between clear and muddled, it was a beautiful and almost breath taking sight. The young she-cat was honored to be able to experience such a thing.
Her attention turned to the star-studded she-cat across from her. Mintleaf was her name, and she could hardly be more than twelve moons old, judging by her immature personality and small stature. During her first meeting the two of them had been introduced, but the other she-cat didn't give Ebonypaw much information about herself.
"Mintleaf." Ebonypaw stood up and gave a proper bow to the Starclan Warrior, who offered a hearty giggle in return.
"Ebonypaw, so proper." Mintleaf giggled softly before repeating a bow so as not to seem rude. The green she-cat wriggled her haunches slightly, almost seemingly bored as her bright green gaze found Ebonypaw's duller gaze.
"Manners are rather important Mintleaf." Ebonypaw responded in a flat, monotone type voice, causing a ripple of silent amusement to flutter across the Starclan Warrior's face, letting the comment roll off her shoulders with ease.
"How is training going?" Mintleaf suddenly shot up to her paws from the sitting position she had been in, tail waving around her wildly.
"It is going smoothly, I could handle if it accelerated somewhat." Ebonypaw started, flickering an ear at Mintleaf's sudden movements, but she herself remained sitting. "Sandblaze is an excellent mentor, I believe he is pleased with my training." She spoke respectfully of the older tom tasked with training her.
Though she didn't voice it, the young Starclanner's eyes were bright with approval for the combination of Sandblaze and Ebonypaw. Flicking her tail, the gray feline signaled for the larger, fluffier she-cat to follow as she padded along the silvery blades of grass underpaw.
"Where are we going?" Ebonypaw asked, pale green pools glancing around at the star-studded trees and rocks as they passed by.
"For a walk. I didn't get the chance to show you around Starclan during your ceremony last time." Mintleaf had pep within her step as she practically pranced through the quiet forest, tail waving and curled slightly over her back.
"No prophecies or anything?" Ebonypaw asked, kitten like curiosity slipping from the young apprentice's maw. She was only nine moons, she couldn't help the wide eyed curiosity but she did enjoy the satisfaction of gaining information.
"No, not yet." Mintleaf's response with half purr of amusement, half chuckle as she turned those brilliant green pools towards Ebonypaw's form, her dark shape slipping in and out of the shadows withing the starlit forest.
Suddenly, the Stoneclanner paused, jaw dropping as she let a faint scent roll over her tongue. She knew it... but not really, it just seemed familiar to her.
"Mintleaf, who is that?" Obviously the cat was no longer around, but still, the young she-cat wanted to know who belonged to the oddly familiar smell.
Padding back to where Ebonypaw stood, Mintleaf took a quick sample of the lingering scent and tilted her head for a moment. "Oh, I think it's Dawnblossom. I haven't run into her but sometimes she wanders this way."
Dawnblossom...
"I didn't know her, but she was the Medicine Cat before I was apprenticed." Ebonypaw was well aware of what happened, Rabbitfur informed her of the fox attack. The Senior Warrior saw no reason to shield her daughter away from the cruelties of the world, making her better prepared for what she might see as a healer.
It happened subtly but Ebonypaw was aware of the fact that the world around her began to blur, Mintleaf turned to her with those happy green eyes, "I'll see you next time!" Her voice sounded almost distorted towards the end of her sentence and it was only seconds later that the black feline regained consciousness, pale gaze blinking away sleep as a yawn broke open her maw.
What an interesting dream.
It wasn't very informational nor did it offer any aid towards her clan, so she figured that mean Stoneclan didn't have any dangers in-store for the future. Glancing around, Ebonypaw noticed she was the first one to wake, but Sandblaze and Dewfrost were stirring nearby, signally that soon everyone would be awake.
Giving a quick stretch, the black feline pulled herself to her growing paws and gave a flicker of her nub behind her, waiting patiently for her mentor.

He'd been overjoyed to see Kindleflare, much happier than he'd been in an age. She always brightened his day and made coming here when he no longer heard the words of StarClan much more bearable. He headbutted the ginger she-cat and walked alongside her as they went into Moon Tree. It had become his custom to take the dreaming at her side, one because he was big and fluffy and could keep her warm, and two because it gave him comfort. He didn't expect when he closed his eyes to be dragged deeply into the dreaming for the first time in many moons. At first he was disoriented, not certain what had happened, and then he caught sight of a grinning cat that he wasn't familiar with but knew had to be a StarClan sent guide. "Welcome back Falconstorm. Good to see you again now that you've come back to your senses." That was the exact wrong thing to say, and the still tender wounds on his heart were ripped open fresh again. His fur stood up on end and a violent hiss escaped him, though he stood his ground. Pouncing the StarClan cat wouldn't get him anywhere. "How dare you!" He roared, the sound of his voice echoing in the fog filled world that had been forged for them. "You show me to Bluejay despite everything that I already was and then turn around and send me the one cat I could be happy with and then take that away from me! You take everything away from me! And worse, you break innocent cats in your path as you do so! I didn't break up with Herondive to please your mousebrained, squirrel-bitten hides, I did it so that she could find happiness with a tom that could give her what I am forbidden to! A medicine cat can't have a family, a medicine cat is forbidden from being in love. Well let me tell you, I love her, I will probably always love her! Nothing your up on the high rocks selves can do will ever change that!" He was breathing hard, and wondered if it showed on the outside, if he seemed in the grips of nightmare. The fog grew thicker around the guide that had come to him, mouth hanging agape as he heaved his breaths and shook with rage. He knew he'd overstepped, but he couldn't stand it anymore. "If being in love is a reason to go quiet on a cat then I never want to hear StarClan again. You are cruel, close-minded, and stuck in your ways. You want me to stop loving her, and I can't do that! You might control my dreams, but you will never control my heart." He startled awake then, either because he was moving so much in his sleep or because he'd been booted out. Either way, he was done with this, crying and angry all at once. He hated them so much. For a cat that believed in StarClan and heard their words, he truly hated them. curiosity is not a sin... ...but we should exercise caution with our curiosity Shadowchaser Expectant eyes followed Shadowchaser into the starlit cavern. He felt the sense of burden, even when surrounded by his fellow medicine cats; they’d exchanged greetings and the usual, but Shadowchaser felt distant. Distracted. Was that apprehension in his gut? Fear making his throat tight?
NightClan wanted answers. Shadowchaser curled up close to the roots, careful not to let his pelt touch the icy surface; despite his hesitations, dreaming came easy.
”Welcome back, Shadowchaser.”
The NightClan medicine cat opened his eyes and was met by a welcome sight; it was Sootfeather, looking healthy and hale. Shadowchaser privately thanked StarClan that it hadn’t been Pinefur sent to greet him this time. The truth had been confronted, and peace of mind restored to Shadowchaser through the love and support of his family - but Shadowchaser did not want to risk that precious stability again.
Sootfeather looked expectant. A good thing, because the first words out of Shadowchaser’s mouth was, “Briarthroat. Is he here?”
“What do you smell?”
The medicine cat did as he was bidden, closing his eyes and parting his jaws to let the scents drift in. StarClan tasted of moonlight pine forests, with rich, peaty soil underneath. It tasted like home - but with an extra layer. Something he couldn’t describe. The memory of Sootfeather’s scent reached him first, and Shadowchaser pushed past it, concentrating.
There, that scent. Foxstar’s and Briarthroat’s, wreathed together as leader and deputy met again in death. They walked in Silverpelt now. May your death been painless, or at least swift, Briarthroat…
One more cat he couldn’t save. Shadowchaser bowed his head, accepting grief as it closed around him like mist. They would mourn Briarthroat tonight. Now was not the time to wallow.
”Then who will lead NightClan?” Luminous eyes fixed on his StarClan guide, pressing her for an answer that would bring hope and relief to his Clan.
Sootfeather shook her head. ”StarClan offers no name, no hint. The right cat to inherit the guardianship of NightClan will step up - or NightClan will fall.”
Shock rippled through Shadowchaser’s coat, forcing the short dark hairs to stand up along his spine. ”What? You’re refusing to help us?” He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. ”After all we’ve been through?”
Sootfeather’s tail brushed against his shoulder, dimming some of the mounting stress roiling in his belly like acid. ”StarClan watches over NightClan, always. But the line of succession has been broken. A new one must rise.”
Shadowchaser held his breath, thinking of the friends and family back at camp eagerly awaiting news. He pictured Darkstorm’s face, Thornscar’s and Cobrastrike’s, Echobreeze’s and Smokefur’s. Slowly, the healer’s fur began to lie flat again. He felt drained, but the panic was already beginning to subside.
”I think I understand,” he murmured, meeting Sootfeather’s gaze once again. StarClan wasn’t going to pick their next leader. NightClan had to stand on their own feet; there would be squabbling and petty fights, but they wouldn’t dissolve into a pack of rogues.
The Code still bound them. Loyalty still bound them.
Someone will bring NightClan together. And then…
”We will be waiting,” said Sootfeather. ”To see NightClan’s ruin, or their rebirth.”
It will be a rebirth. Shadowchaser believed that with his whole heart, his convictions strengthening even as the misted forest of StarClan began to fade away. We won’t fall apart because of this.
The medicine cat woke with a soft gasp. His next actions were swift; rise to his paws, shake out his pelt from the lingering effects of sleep. Already he was looking to the cavern entrance.
He needed to return home. medicine cat of nightclan @tagged | jk rowling | background image | table by phoenix BlooRey DVD @zen Ghost the Undead Goddess Justice

With Falconstorm on one side and Tigerpaw on her other, Kindleflare couldn't think of a time she'd felt more comfortable than she did now, settling down at the base of the Moon Tree. Dark amber eyes drifted closed once she was certain Tigerpaw was dreaming comfortably, her nose tucking beneath a ginger striped tail. Allowing herself to slip into a dreaming state next to her two friends, Kindleflare's breathing slowed until a familiar and distant scent pricked at her senses.
When she blinked open her eyes, light pierced through the darkness, causing her to flinch against its brilliance. With a staggered step back, the she-cat's claws scrapped against stone, yet it felt distinctly different than the stone she had fallen asleep on. In a voice trembling with more than its usual nervousness, the LightningClan medicine cat called out. "M-Mom? D-Dad? Sh-Shadewhisker? Fl-" Her stammering call to her usual guides was cut short as a wave of panic gripped her, her subconscious telling her something was very, very wrong. Though she was still struggling to see anything, a heart-wrenchingly familiar scent assaulted her nostrils, causing her to choke and gag against its metallic tang.
A disturbing squelch between the toes of her hind paw only seemed to further cement what her nose was telling her, and Kindleflare's head swung about to gaze upon a crimson pool of blood, disturbed by her obvious paw print. As the frightened she-cat side-stepped away from the puddle, kicking her offended hind paw out in an attempt to rid it of the disturbing sensation of blood seeping into her fur, she caught sight of the rest of her surroundings. Before her stretched the Sun Stones, its surface littered with bloodied pawprints. Some, she couldn't distinguish from others, but there were distinctly larger ones alongside more diminutive ones.
Before she could make sense of it, the light seemed to slowly fade, a dark cloud slinking over the sun to lose a single bolt of lightning toward the earth. With a deafening roar, it cracked against one of the larger stones. Leaping back in alarm, the healer nearly slipped on the blood-slicked rocks, managing to keep her footing by a miracle of StarClan. Although she had expected to see destruction, perhaps the stone shattered into a million pieces, Kindleflare found herself gazing upon a strange yet mesmerizing sight.
The stone stood undamaged, its surface sparking with electricity that danced across it. Blue-white tongues flicked off in every direction, the stone seeming to glow with the lightning's strength. Slowly, the blood nearest the stone began to disappear, evaporating despite the distinct lack of heat from the electrified stone.
Sudden movement at her side had Kindleflare's muzzle jerking up off the ground, dark amber eyes wide and her breathing short. Her heart hammered within her chest, mind reeling as it tried to make sense of the bizarre scene that had been shared with her. Shivering slightly beneath the uneasy feeling that followed her from the dream world, Kindleflare glanced to her side where Tigerpaw was rousing, conjuring her best comforting smile so as not to worry him. Tigerpaw had been happy to see Shadowchaser when he and Kindleflare arrived, the last to reach their destination it seemed. He was hesitantly interested in getting to know Ebonypaw as well, being as she was closer to him in age. But the fact that she was StoneClan, with so much bad blood between their Clans, made him nervous for if she would want to get to know him. Medicine cats were supposed to be above Clan rivalries, working together for the good of all cats in the valley, but that didn’t mean an individual was infallible, that they were immune to the things their Clans did to each other. Last meeting he had greeted the young she-cat politely but otherwise left her be, too unsure to approach her. Besides, it had been her first meeting, her ceremony, her first dreaming… it all could be overwhelming and he hadn’t wanted to add to that. Maybe he would get a chance to talk to her this time? He followed after Kindleflare as the medicine cats all concluded that there were no ceremonies to be performed and headed for the Moon Tree. He settled among the roots near his mentor and curled up, feeling safe and protected here, watched over so closely by their ancestors. Closing his eyes, he opened them a moment later to StarClan’s meadows, so alike LightningClan’s home and yet so very different. Stars glittered among the high grasses like the most beautiful fireflies. He closed his eyes again, breathing deeply the invigorating, fresh scent of StarClan’s hunting grounds. He had been so nervous to attend his first medicine cat meeting, to be presented to StarClan, and after the horrific warning about the fox attack, he had been nervous to come back. But ever since that first warning, he had had only pleasant meetings with his sister, and coming here had become one of his favorite parts of being a medicine cat. He opened deep amber eyes, searching the grasses, and a now familiar cat appeared. Purring, he stepped forward to meet her, the two siblings brushing their cheeks together affectionately, “I’m so glad you’re getting more comfortable here, Tigerpaw.” His purr deepened, “It’s because of you.” She returned his purr, but after a moment his expression changed and she seemed to know exactly what he was going to say, “Russetfall is here, but his death affected everyone so badly… he is afraid that coming to you so soon after may reopen a healing wound.” Tigerpaw glanced to his paws uncertainly. Maybe his father was right. Would seeing him here, now, be a temporary relief? Would he return to camp feeling an emptiness again where the old tom used to be? “Will he… will he ever come to see me? He isn’t angry? That… that I didn’t save him?” Mapleheart pushed her nose into his fur, “Of course he isn’t angry. It was his time, Tigerpaw. As you told Lynxpaw, he was in StarClan’s paws. There was nothing you could have done. He will come to you when he is ready.” She took a step back, gazing at him with soft, sympathetic eyes, “Sometimes part of being a medicine cat is knowing when to do nothing, and to let a cat go when StarClan is calling them. Russetfall’s spirit joined StarClan surrounded by his family, cats who loved him, after living a full life with his mate and kits. Remember that, and celebrate the fact that he lived so long and did so much before his time. Not all cats are so lucky.” He dropped his gaze from his sister’s, “Like you?” Mapleheart paused, “I believe I was meant for this. For you.” Tigerpaw glanced up again, “... Do you have regrets?” She sighed, “Of course I do. I had… always hoped to have kits of my own. That never came to be.” His ears flicked back and she stepped closer to rasp her tongue between his ears, “Here, in this place, you are my kit as much as my brother. I will always do all I can to guide and protect you, Tigerpaw. And I don’t regret being able to do that. Not for an instant.” “I… I’m glad you’re here to help me…. I wish I had known you when you were alive,” he mewed softly. She purred, her eyes sparkling, “Ask Wildcall what the two of us got up to as kits and apprentices.” He tilted his head at her, “Would he… want to talk about that?” She snorted, tail flicking, “He needs his family as much as any of you do. You are brothers and yet you’ve had very little to do with each other. Russetfall has joined StarClan, but good can come from his death, if his kits come together as the family they are meant to be to help each other through it.” Tigerpaw glanced away, a little ashamed that he had never spent much time with Wildcall, even after meeting Mapleheart here, after wishing he had been able to know her in life. He had a brother he barely knew. At this point he probably knew Mapleheart better. WIth a soft purr of amusement as well as encouragement, she touched her nose to his ear, “It is not too late. Ask him.” Her final words were little more than a breath of wind in his ears as she faded from view and Tigerpaw opened his eyes to the Moon Tree cavern once more, blinking awake. Lifting his head, he saw that Kindleflare was already awake as well and pushed to his paws, arching his back in a luxurious stretch. He thought on his sister’s suggestion, and the more he thought about it, the more he was sure it had also come from Russetfall, even if he hadn’t appeared to say it himself. Their father was trying to bring them together as a proper family. It seemed very like him to do. He glanced around at the other waking medicine cats, then back at Kindleflare, waiting for her direction and hoping they would be able to stay for a little while so he could talk with Shadowchaser and maybe even Ebonypaw.
