Meadowflight

The calico warrioress was recovering, finally, from the loss of not only one but two members of her family. Her aunt Dawnblossom and tragically her beloved father Eagletalon had lost their lives in the fight against the foxes that fateful gathering. It had been some moons since that happened and slowly the loss was no longer a gaping wound but beginning to knit back together, still painful but more bareable, after all Eagletalon would disapprove of her being so mopey, she was a warrior, she should act like one. 

Meadowflight had been unreachable for many moons, in a slump even Kestrelclaw could not pull her out of, despite his and Sootpaw's best efforts, she had even started to ignore her apprenticeship crush Waspwing in her grief but it was time to move on to grow up, be Eagleton's daughter and make him smile in Starclan. 

Stretching out of her nest of moss and feathers the calico she cat made her way over to Waspwing's nest to see if the strapping tom was out with his apprentice or resting, she wanted to go hunting and was eager for him to join her as a partner.

Waspwing had just woken up from a nap in the waning Leaf-bare sun. Leisurely, he stretched each paw in turn, not knowing precisely what it was he had to do today. Beetlepaw was resting after a particularly vigorous brush-up of his fighting skills. The little cat was coming on in leaps and bounds, quite literally; their fighting techniques - modified, of course, to suit Beetlepaw's needs - were showing some real signs of progress. 

It was as he had just finished stretching that he noticed the calico form of Meadowflight striding toward him. With purpose. Oooh. This should be fun. 

He knew that she'd been devastated by the loss of both her father and her aunt in such a short space of time, and in such a vicious fashion.

So he'd kind of understood when she'd sort of lost herself for a while. It was the same way he felt when Sandheart, his mentor, had disappeared - and as he was bound by a code of honour-bound silence, as vigil dictated, he couldn't even say goodbye. 

That had haunted him for a good long while. 

"Hello, little darlin'. I'm glad to see you're... you again. What are we getting up to?"

He took the time to look at her, really look at her. She'd matured so quickly in such a short space of time.

He was so proud of her.

The calico warrior smiled at Waspwing's easy smile and distinct speaking voice It was safe, familiar even. After all, he had been so understanding throughout her grieving process.Even if her father had not approved of her crush as an apprentice, she was now a warrior and able to make her own decisions. Though there was a secret she shared with none but herself, sometimes she could see her father in her dreams as if guiding her on. Of course, she knew that messages from Starclan did not appear to regular warriors like her but she still felt special, even if it was just her imagination reflecting the grief. 

Clearing her throat to brush away those thoughts she glanced at Waspwing with a characteristic smile on her maw, eyes glinting devilishly as she spoke " Just a hunting trip today, I know I have been... unreachable lately and I thought I'd brush up on my skills with my favorite sparring partner " she added, almost winking at him at the end but deciding against it last minute so her eye just sort of twitched involuntarily but she blinked several times to clear it and settled on a real but embarrassed smile at her long term crush.

" Sootpa... I mean Sootwhisker is a warrior now, that's all of our little trio done now, from kits to full warriors... it has been a journey "She looked at him solemnly as if to say 'One I hope I will not continue alone' It was obvious that she liked him more than she should as an apprentice, but now as a warrior she was questioning his own feelings towards her, if he didn't like her, she'd prefer to know now before she got more invested in something that could never be.

Countless times she had considered the possibility of him liking her back, a situation she had gone over a thousand times with Sootwhisker. Her brother's love was always encouraging and it made Meadowflight question why she had ever hated the blind she-cat. Naturally then she would see Waspwing with another she-cat and with that painful burn in her chest and every word dipped in scorn at the she-cat afterward, reminded her that despite all her good intentions. Jealousy was one of her darker traits.

Yes, strapping my dear, I believe it means big and strong, which he is... Plus he is her crush so it's natural for her to view him as a protector and such... They are so cute it makes my heart ache.
