Description:
Pumafang is a massive chocolate black tom with short fur and round amber eyes. He is tall and looks quite lean, though is a very dense, heavy cat. His paws are large and suffocating in battle, though despite his brawn, Pumafang's most striking feature are his fangs. His teeth are sharp and unnaturally long, sometimes poking out of his maw. He has a boxy, masculine muzzle and a large head, though his ears are quite small and delicate in proportion to his substantial size. Pumafang has a large nose and is an excellent tracker, though has much trouble controlling his own strength, constantly having to temper his inherent power with unnatural tenderness. He screams puissance, lumbering from place to place like a lion, posture regal, as if he owned every inch of land beneath his paws. Pumafang's pelt is plain, though his stature is commendable. He is the epitome of potency and strength and an excellent asset to TreeClan.
Although colossal, he's always struggled with speed. His stride is massive, but each step is almost cumbersome due to his size and weight. His fur is glossy and short, and although he has relatively thick skin, claws seem to slice through it nonetheless. He bleeds easily, though seems to find pleasure in the pain. The medicine cats on the other hand seem to be quite irritated with his constant visits.
In battle training, he always did find the most struggle in pinning down the smaller, more agile opponents, stumbling over his legs a bit more than the average apprentice. Though, with cats more his stature, Pumafang is a formidable opponent. Once his massive paws come down on an adversary, it isn't easy to regain a position of power.
Description Summary:
Pumafang is a massive chocolate black tom with short fur and round amber eyes.
Personality:
Committed: Feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; wholeheartedly dedicated.
Pumafang is a very dedicated cat, seeing it highly important to contribute one hundred percent of himself to protecting and providing for his clan. Although incredibly committed, he oftentimes gets bored of routine, finding himself doing even the most distasteful of chores such as tending to the elders and hunting herbs with the medicine cats. He strives to occupy himself with something every waking moment, though despite his proactive and loyal tendencies, Pumafang isn't hard to find. His skill and helpfulness instills inspiration in TreeClan youth and respect from both peers and elders alike, thus he is a popular choice for patrols, mentoring, and duties around camp. Although he offers help freely, receiving aid often rubs him the wrong way. Pumafang often mistakes kindness as charity, feeling insulted even by the simplest acts of solicitude.
Driven: Relentlessly compelled by the need to accomplish a goal; very hard-working and ambitious.
Pumafang is an incredibly ambitious tom, though he does an incredible job tempering this side of his personality with compliant indifference towards authority. Much like Tigerstar in the tales of old, he presents himself to be an incredibly satisfying choice in leadership roles due to his competence, audacity, and battle prowess. His assertive personality, decisiveness, and tactical thought process makes him an exemplary leader, though unlike many, he has the skills and repertoire to back him. He utilizes his commanding presence to accumulate experience beyond his years, always striving to improve himself and Treeclan.
Accountable: Required or expected to justify actions or decisions; responsible.
Although Pumafang has a genuinely mysterious air about him, his clanmates are very comfortable with him. He is straightforward and simple in speech and action, always willing to justify himself, his operations, and his choices without question. He is especially responsible, always doing the things he says he will do in a timely, efficient, and effective manner making him a popular candidate for duties both inside and outside camp. He has an immensely accountable and productive nature, and paired with his committed behavior, Pumafang is a very lucrative and loyal warrior of TreeClan.
Incisive: Intelligently analytical and clear-thinking.
As if his strength and puissance wasn't enough, Pumafang is a very strategic and prudent warrior. He treats every decision like a move in chess, constantly thinking ahead and contemplating his options. Contrary to his seemingly simple and uncomplicated demeanor, his mind is overactive and constantly at work. No matter how complex and stressful a situation becomes, Pumafang always manages to maintain admirable composure and retain almost impeccable lucidity.
Coherent: Able to speak clearly and logically.
Pumafang is a very clear and comprehensible cat, to the benefit of those under his command and of those around him. He keeps his speech simple and can come off quite brusque, though his tone and bluntness isn't derived from anything but impassiveness. His indifference and lack of compassion can be quite abrasive, though he never fails to tackle problems rationally, honing a deep, articulate voice. He is oftentimes praised for his ability to diffuse situations, though instead of tact and diplomacy, he utilizes intimidation and logic. Pumafang enjoys challenges, though he definitely likes to avoid personal conflicts. His unsympathetic and harshly cogent views can rub his clanmates the wrong way, but although consoling isn't his forte, his intelligible words are oftentimes greatly appreciated in a working environment.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Merciless: Showing no mercy or pity.
Pumafang is ruthless to say the least. Pity is an unknown emotion to him, and compassion is about as absent from him as water is from the desert. He doesn't bother with sympathy, for he sees mercy and benevolence as weakness. His communication with others is through simple sentences and often intense body language, though his clanmates are hardly affected by his naturally oppressive behavior: most of the clan trusts him with their lives, though none know how truly worthless they are to him. His eyes are often devoid of emotion, bone-chilling to his opponents, though much of Treeclan doesn't seem bothered by it. Many can attest to his loyalty, though it is often mistakenly placed in the warrior code, the clan, and his clanmates: Pumafang's allegiance is to the order and prosperity of Treeclan as a whole. Casualties inside and outside the clan are inevitable in the walk of life.
Enigmatic: Difficult to interpret or understand; mysterious.
Pumafang is a very cryptic cat, his motives and thoughts constantly shrouded in an expressionless fog. Although his speech is lucid and uncomplicated, his actions are quite different. Even to the most perceptive of cats, Pumafang is inscrutable, though it isn't as though he is hiding his emotions: Pumafang is dispassionate, so detached from his feelings that his actions and choices are backed entirely be reason and vengeance. Although he can be frank and short with cats, his words are truthful and forthright with no ill intent. He is completely unaffected by any amount of spite and unkindness, seeing argument and social strife as wasted energy. Pumafang's indifference is always agonizingly obvious, though aside from his articulate words, that is the only obvious thing about him. The rest is an intriguing mystery.
Insistent: Insisting or demanding something; not allowing refusal.
With authority such as the medicine cats, deputy, or clan leader, Pumafang isn't insistent at all, though with his clanmates, he can be quite persuasive in a demanding sort of way. He isn't against manipulating others for his own benefit, or for the benefit of the clan, though wouldn't dare challenge those appointed through ceremony. Most often he gets what he wants, though when he doesn't, it hardly affects him. Disappointment is not something he is bothered by, honing his incredibly neutral mindset to move past his setbacks and recalculate the next best opportunity. With cats outside his clan in which he can exercise his despotic tendencies, Pumafang is extremely punitive and strictly insistent, his pitiless personality sometimes even more intimidating than his immense stature.
Intimidating: Having a frightening, overawing, or threatening effect.
Pumafang's massiveness definitely contributes to his intimidating air, though much of it has to do with his enigmatic and merciless personality as well. Being a mountainous, emotionless, and mysterious cat really gives him the trump card in foreign relations: he is able to command respect from those outside TreeClan with ease. Much more ease than those within his clan at least. Pumafang has a good reputation among the clans, though many of the cats who respect him fear him as well. The only thing protecting his own clanmates is their trust in the warrior code, though the code isn't a safeguard unless the opponent practices within the rules as well.
Terse: Sparing in the use of words; abrupt.
Pumafang isn't the talkative type. In fact, it is often hard to get him talking in the first place. Unless it is practical in the moment or in the future, he doesn't bother himself with addressing it. His speech is very frank and blunt, his vocabulary utterly foolproof. He isn't elaborate in speech or manner, actually priding himself in his outward simplicity. He is very easy to get information out of, being straightforward and to-the-point in everything he says, though he isn't good at conversing about trivial things that would normally be included as pleasantries in casual conversation. His sparing use of words isn't quite a bad trait, though it can be quite frustrating to those who expect an eager and full response. Pumafang will transfer information in the fewest words possible, making for a quick and painless report, though his terse behavior is often a significant downfall in social situations.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Vindictive: Having or showing a strong or unreasoning desire for revenge.
Pumafang only has one emotion: revenge. He has wholeheartedly convinced himself that his actions are backed by justice, believing that revenge is always justified. In that regards, he is a bit delusional, refusing to accept that his vengeance is wrongly placed, feeling alive when his vindictive nature sends fire rushing through his veins. Pumafang thrives on conflict, though his blame is often misplaced, thus he regularly punishes those who aren't deserving of punishment (outside of Treeclan). He treats his clanmates more like a responsibility and a liability than anything, and luckily for him and his clanmates, he hasn't run into a cat from his own clan whom he is compelled to avenge. He believes himself to be righteous, harboring flawless morals and principles, though from an outsider looking in, Pumafang can be a very grisly cat when he thinks others aren't watching.
Morbid: Appealing to an abnormal and unhealthy interest in disturbing and unpleasant subjects, especially death and disease.
Pumafang, from a young age, has been fascinated by death. He would, against the medicine cats will, always try to sneak in and see the mortally sick patients, watching them grow weaker by the day, and sometimes by the second. He isn't saddened by death, but rather intrigued by it, constantly wondering if there is an afterlife, or if Starclan is was just a big joke. He is agnostic in that regard, not quite taking the time out of his life to care about such a futile entity, though his interest has never really been with the soul. Pumafang is drawn towards death like a vulture, and feeling his claws and fangs in flesh makes his body ripple in pleasure. It is a morbid thing, though he finds the most amusement in unhurried kills, oftentimes finding himself, sinking his fangs into the throats of prey agonizingly slowly, feeling the creature squirm violently in pain and fear. Pumafang is obsessed with suffering and torment, relishing agony like water on a scorching, greenleaf day.
Imperious: Assuming power or authority with/without justification; arrogant and domineering.
Pumafang is a natural-born leader, taking control of a situation any moment he can get. He feels most comfortable in complete control, though oftentimes he monopolizes a group of cats without consent. Some other leadership personalities clash with his domineering behavior, though Pumafang's reason almost always prevails. His actions always have a logical purpose behind them, much to the frustration of his opponents, and his prudence offers him a strong safety net if his purposes fall flat, or if he's called on his bluff. Pumafang wouldn't consider himself cunning, though he is intelligent, and power always brings out the best in him.
Unrelenting: Not giving way to kindness or compassion.
Although it has already been significantly addressed, Pumafang is unaffected by both kindness and unkindness, seeing most emotions as a waste of time and effort. He is an unyielding personality, not swaying from his set path by any means socially unless commanded to from his superiors. His unrelenting behavior often gives off the impression that he is insensitive and arrogant, though that being said would not be far from the truth at all. Pumafang holds himself to a higher standard than many cats, swaggering through life with a blood-curdling confidence, reaching out in an attempt to capture every opportunity for success he can.
History:
Pumakit was born from one of Treeclan's most powerful warriors, a she-cat by the name of Blackwater. Her form was very similar to his, very tall and rather lean, but much less dense than her monstrous kit. The father wasn't announced, and growing up without a strong male role-model made him strive to be just that. It will likely never be known that he is in fact only half-clan, his father never once spoken about. Despite not being entirely Treeclan, he still had the blood of great warriors running through his veins. All of the cats in Pumakit's family had jet black fur, and from his grandmother he heard incredible tales of their family's history, where they all got their prefix from.
Yes, every cat from his bloodline had the same prefix of Black-.
Blackstar was the leader of Treeclan in the forests of old, and all of his descendants miraculously retained his gigantic stature and ink black pelt through countless moons of responsible breeding. Although never once producing another leader for TreeClan since Blackstar's reign, Pumakit's ancestors acted as a backbone, and he heard many stories of their adventures and accomplishments as well. He could only imagine what it was like journeying without a home, and establishing a new one. He could only imagine what it felt like to fight tooth and claw for his clan and bring justice to the world.
Pumakit was eager to be the best warrior in his history of warriors from the start, receding into himself cryptically early on and remaining that way, pushing himself to the maximum.
His family wasn't the doting type. In fact, they matured Pumakit early, providing him morals and principles whom most he chose to follow. He became a respectable kit, and eventually a respectable apprentice. Most of his family had been irritated that their daughter had broken the line of Black-, though many admired her choice: Pumakit would continue their legend, and his ambitions would perhaps one day give his family a new leadership title in which they hadn't had since the long dead Blackstar.
Pumakit had dreams of being Pumastar, and he made sure to act accordingly at all times.
Pumapaw's apprenticeship seemed quite dull to him, particularly at first. He constantly had to mitigate his strength and power with an unnatural gentleness in every aspect of life, though he hardly let it bother him. It was almost an assurance to him that he was the world's most powerful cat. The first prey he caught was practically mutilated, crunching under his paws like snow. His mentor, Goldenflame, brushed it off.
Pumapaw had actually admired Goldenflame, more than any other cat he had come across. His mentor was powerful and ruthless, his harsh training tactics making Pumapaw stronger, though he felt as though his mentor was still holding back, hesitating to instill such motive and strength in a tom with as much potential as Pumapaw. His mentor had a lot of interest in his daughter, though towards the end of his apprenticeship, his mentor grew maddened and turned to battering Pumapaw in his anger, anger at why his apprentice had more ambition than his daughter. Anger that perhaps Pumapaw would steal from him what his family deserved.
Pumapaw accepted the challenge eagerly, oblivious to the dangers and murderous spirit of his mentor. Their training sessions were held away from the other apprentices in a place where there was some sort of threatening scent, Pumapaw constantly coming back with fresh wounds all over. Goldenflame and him had lied about their outings, blaming it on rogues, foxes, badgers, hawks...anything that could be traced, and their strategically placed training sessions proved beneficial to hiding the truth. Pumapaw enjoyed his intense sessions. He savored the agony: it made him feel alive.
Pumapaw felt like he could've completed his apprenticeship long before his peers, though Goldenflame's reasoning seemed valid. He was continuing to contribute to the clan even as an apprentice, thus the youth's ambition was tempered with logic and fairness: every cat had to spend at least 6 moons training, and he was no exception. Goldenflame was no doubt morbidly attracted to attacking the massive apprentice, addicted to the same rush of adrenaline that Pumapaw so strongly desired, though his trainee didn't need to know that.
They were a dangerous fit, both feeding off of each other's ambition and mercilessness like wolves.
Pumapaw knew he was destined for greatness, acting every bit the leader he felt like he was, taking complete advantage of the extra training with Goldenflame during the end. He had accrued a savage amount of fighting time from a savage cat: he knew he wouldn't have received this kind of training from anyone else. Outside of training with Goldenflame, he spent a good deal of time with a bubbly, annoying apprentice by the name of Elmpaw. The fluffy brown tabby tom wouldn't leave Pumapaw alone, though Pumapaw didn't seem to mind the company of his smaller counterpart. They oftentimes trained together, but the large, chocolate black tom rarely got a hold on the tiny, agile apprentice.
For as formidable as Pumapaw was, he was constantly bested by the runt in both hunting and fighting, though the black tom was attracted to the challenge. Although he saw Elmpaw as a nuisance most of the time and would never admit to himself that he liked the tom's company, perhaps there was an inkling of friendship after all, though it is likely one he will always deny.
Still, most of his day was spent with his mentor.
Regardless of their treacherous pastimes, Goldenflame and Pumapaw proved to be a productive and menacing match, the apprentice becoming Pumafang at 12 moons old after what he would deem a rather boring apprenticeship. His warrior moons were far more dull, the chocolate black tom realizing how repetitious the life of a clan cat was, though Elmpaw's company was almost as constant as it had been when he had been an apprentice. Pumafang was confused at how the apprentice managed to find the time, though he brushed it off. The tom still felt like he was trapped in a revolving door, living the same day over and over again for an entire moon after his warrior's ceremony before he began late-night outings by himself in uncharted territory, scouting for threats and keeping the woods near the Treeclan border well protected.
Pumafang would jump from tree to tree to avoid a traceable ground trail, and thanks to his black pelt and incredible stealth, he hasn't been seen beyond the border to this day. He was made for the night, his ventures beyond the border proved to keep his strength at maximum potency.
At 18 moons old, Elmstrike joined Pumafang in the warrior's den, finishing his training at 15 moons. The brown tabby tom was as bubbly as ever, pride for his warrior name making Pumafang's ears sore, though the tom was used to it. When Pumafang was 19 moons old, one moon after he received his first apprentice, news of his own mentor's demise came mildly disappointing to him. He heard the story, that Goldenflame had succumbed to death even with another senior warrior and two apprentices at his side. Pumafang couldn't help but think how foolish he was to have been inspired by such a weak warrior only eight moons ago, though after a respectful send-off, he moved on.
It wasn't long before the chocolate black tom almost completely forgot about Goldenflame, though the skills he had learned from the ambitious tom never abandoned him.
At 24 moons old, Pumafang's first apprentice became a warrior and he was given another apprentice in his stead. At around that time, his grandparents passed away at a very old age. The tom didn't seem to be affected by it, though his mother did seem quite crestfallen. He buried them as he would any other clanmate, and continued life training his new apprentice. He was careful with his training, never daring to let himself grow as dangerous as his own mentor had been, making positively sure he was always seen acting within the warrior code. His first apprentice turned into a fine warrior to Pumafang's satisfaction: the cat wasn't nearly as capable as he was, thus he had greatly benefited the clan without providing himself competition. His second apprentice proved to be similar, uninteresting being quite the understatement.
Though that seemed to be Pumafang's outlook on life: mundane.
As a 27 moon old warrior, Pumafang was halfway through training his current apprentice, on track to finishing his second apprentice in the next season. He escorted Magpiewing to the mountains with Timberfrost after the tom's involvement with Ravenstorm's murder, and upon return was attacked by a group of rogues. The two TreeClanners made it back in time to make it to the Leafbare Year 6 Gathering. Open Woods being shared territory between LightningClan and TreeClan offered Pumafang an excellent opportunity to test his apprentice, Cliffpaw, in matters of composure and diplomacy.
Pumafang's apprentice received his warrior name not long before Gorsetail's maiming at the NightClan border. In his 30th moon, Pumafang was chosen as TreeClan's next deputy. He found himself in Timberfrost's presence much this season to his increasing comfort, though the season ended with almost unbearable tension between TreeClan and NightClan after the Newleaf Year 7 Gathering, of which marked a foul turning point in the relationship between the two clans.

TREECLAN - WARRIOR - 30 MOONS
"This is TreeClan territory."
Pumafang's husky rumble cut through the cold air like a tiger's claws, his massive stature looming over two reluctant loners. The brown tabby toms hadn't just stepped over the border: they had been traveling well within the territory for quite sometime. He had tracked them all the way from the Great Maple to here, just past the Sparkling Brook, and caught the remains of two mice and a squirrel. Prey thieves! He grumbled to himself, blocking them from taking one more step. They were almost to the scent-markers, and Pumafang had no intention of letting them mosey around his territory any longer. Irritation itched under his skin, making the large, chocolate black tom very short-tempered and domineering.
"What's it to you?" The taller tom sneered, arrogance making him foolish. His companion's yellow eyes flashed anxiously. The smaller tom's lips parted, as if he was about to object, though he quickly snapped his mouth shut. The bigger tom continued ignorantly. "We'll be on our way. Step aside."
"You must leave immediately." Pumafang rasped, voice deep and resounding.
"I mean, why should we?" The tom asked with mock innocence, stepping closer to the Treeclan warrior, signaling for his smaller cat to circle around. "Why don't we just take this territory for our clan?"
Pumafang felt the shorter tom hesitate, though eventually he circled behind, cutting him off from retreat. Not like that was an option to the stubborn warrior anyways, though it confirmed the pair's intentions. Pumafang felt his heart skip with glee, tension so high it was nearly palpable. To the chocolate black tom, there was no greater joy than battle, feeling his colossal body crushing opponents beneath him and his powerful fangs sink deep inside their flesh. War was where he was best utilized, the massive tom truly a weapon in Treeclan's defense.
When the taller tom signaled the attack, Pumafang spun around, smacking the shorter tom viciously across the head, sending his opponent sprawling on the ground a few tail-lengths away. He felt the taller tabby latch himself on his back and dig his claws furiously into his shoulders, jaws digging into the side of Pumafang's neck. The chocolate black tom rolled on-top of the tabby, crushing the breath out of him like a falling tree. Water sprayed everywhere as the two landed into the stream, the brown tabby gurgled for a moment before resurfacing, though Pumafang pressed the tom's head back under with a paw at the loner's throat. His hold was steady and unwavering despite the tom's flailing, his underwater cries dreamily muted.
The tom's companion yowled angrily, attempting to unbalance Pumafang, but to no avail. Although quick, no amount of striking and biting dissuaded the chocolate black warrior from justice. There had to be a sacrifice for their insolence and aggression.
The smaller tom's thorn-like claws made Pumafang bleed heavily, though in short time the body beneath his paws grew limp. He held the cat under for several more seconds to make sure, relishing the cool water rushing over his legs. After the deed was done, he released the corpse and let it wash downstream. Terror and agony gushed from the other cat's gaze. The only remaining loner stood shocked until he saw Pumafang lumbering threateningly towards him with a murderous glint in his round amber eyes.
"Leave." Pumafang hissed, poised for another kill.
He watched in grim satisfaction as the other tom's remaining composure shattered like ice, his frozen stance crumbling as he scrambled away for his life. The chocolate black tom bounded after him as fast as he could with his ground-covering stride, though the tabby was much faster than him, fear fueling the loner's escape. Pumafang halted at the border, watching the trespasser disappear into the woods. The fear scent made him feel powerful and respected.
Glancing over to the waters not far from him, he watched as the tall tabby's body bobbed downstream.
There was no mercy for thieves and vagabonds. There was no mercy for anyone.
