Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The Dawn Patrol had been quick that morning, the cold air making any extended trip outside impossible. The small group ducked back into the safety of StoneClan camp, the broad-shouldered form of Hawkstar at the head of the patrol. The StoneClan figuredhead padded to the centre of camp, before turning to face the patrol. Quick words of thanks were murmured to each, paired with a warm smile on the silvering muzzle of the big tom. Pausing only to ensure each Clanmate set course for a place much warmer than outside, Hawkstar turned his own attention on the Rock Pile.
Glancing up at the towering structure, the StoneClan leader made a sound in the back of his throat, somewhere between a sigh and a chuckle. No season so blatantly reminded him of just how old he was getting as Leafbare did. Joints ached in the bitter cold, and his movements were stiff, as though his very muscles were suffering from being frozen. With a deep exhale, punctuated by a puff of mist from his jaws, he pushed himself forward to begin the climb. Thanking StarClan that the path was so familiar to him now, the sand-colored tom picked his way up with relative ease.
Despite the familiarity, the top could not have arrived soon enough. Fluffing his short coat up against the chill, Hawkstar gave himself a shake in an attempt to coerce his blood to flow through him before padding forth into the confines of his den. Amber yes adjusted slowly to the change in lighting, the tom's large paws moving unhurriedly to provide his vision as much time as he could. As he blinked in the darker atmosphere, his gaze settled upon the form of his mate, from where she was curled up in a nest. Pulled toward her by some unseen magnetism, Hawkstar's pace quickened.
Stepping into their nest, Hawkstar curled himself around her as he lowered himself stiffly into the bedding material. Settling against her with a slight groan, he purred lowly in an apology for he was certain his fur was rather cold to her. Unsure of whether she was awake enough to hear him or not, he lay his muzzle on her shoulder and mumbled. "Don't go outside today. It isn't worth the trip." Pale amber eyes searched his mate's face, gaze alight with his unwavering love for her. To him, there was nothing on this earth more beautiful than she, not now and not ever.
She was his everything, and he thanked StarClan every day for that one moment they truly connected all those moons ago. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain89 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanHawkstar brought with him a coolness to the air that their nest had so far avoided; the matriarch stirred, blinking softly into wakefulness as her mate's cooled pelt brushed against hers. So he had been outside, and already seen to the Clan. That eased Frozenrain's thoughts into something more leisurely, able to indulge in this quality time and comfort with him now that she knew there were no pressing matters.
Frozenrain purred, touching her nose to Hawkstar's. "Thank StarClan for Smokestorm and the rest. The Clan's in capable paws." It would allow them to take a much-desired rest. She did not complain, but this season she felt the chill more sharply and the weariness in her bones was more pronounced than previous moons. They were aging, there was no getting around this obvious truth. Frozenrain's sigh was soft, peaceful. Though he had more scars than when they'd first fallen in love, she still thought him handsome. He had aged gracefully, his strength of spirit undiminished by limitations of the body.
Baby blue eyes glimmered, concern breaking through the peacefulness of her thoughts. If she was feeling the aching cold... "How do you feel, Hawkstar?" Greenleaf had been merciless; the image of him barely able to climb up to their den was seared into her memory for good. It wasn't foolish of her to suspect her mate was less sound of body than he let on.
But here, in their nest, honesty was important, so as she watched him, blinking softly to give him time to answer, Frozenrain trusted him to confide in her. 263 Words // BlooRey DVD Sorry for the wait!

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The big tom rumbled in agreement, his head still resting peacefully on Frozenrain's shoulder. Smokestorm had indeed been a blessing to StoneClan in the last few moons. She had learnt well, and was stepping into the paw steps of leadership with a grace that had not been seen in some time from the StoneClan deputies. He hoped she would be the one to finally take the mantle from him when his time as StoneClan leader finally ceased. StoneClan needed a face with which it was familiar to replace him; for near uncountable moons now, it had been him at the helm. What a change it would be, and any familiarity would desperately be needed.
Frozenrain's question caught him briefly off guard, pale amber eyes sliding to her bright blue ones. For a moment, he let himself take in her features, before a tired smile twitched at the edges of his silvering maw. His voice reflected some of his exhaustion as he finally spoke. "I'm sure you are far more... Aware of the cold now than you once were." He began, noticing a slight dip of her muzzle in confirmation of what he'd asked. "Each moon is more difficult. StarClan above, I am old now." He rumbled, a hint of laughter behind his tone.
"The mornings are most difficult, the cold air unforgiving. Yet, I am granted short moments of strength from StarClan. Second winds, so to speak." He smiled at her again tail curling over her flank. "But over all... I am tired, Frozenrain. So very tired. And I miss him." In his mind's eye, another brown c-coated tom flickered to life, eyes alight with a determination and loyalty he had not seen since. Greenleaf had stolen his brother from him, and even now in Leafbare, it was difficult without him. The loss of Eagletalon and Dawnblossom had shaken StoneClan to its core. But StoneClan had pushed forward.
He couldn't help but wonder, however, how many were still plagued with that strange weight of loss. Had he felt the same when Fallenleaf had left them? Likely not; Fallenleaf had passed peacefully due to age. Her life had not been cut short by a merciless beast. And so, he couldn't help but wonder how long he would feel the emptiness left by Eagletalon. He wondered how long that same emptiness would plague Smokestorm, and Eagletalon's kits, Hawkstar's own kits... How many continued to suffer, and how long would it continue?
"I miss him more with each passing day." He added, his voice more quiet than before. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain89 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanThe softness of Hawkstar's voice spoke volumes. Frozenrain breathed in, slowly finding the words that may lend her mate some comfort. What came out first was a gentle purr, the old matriarch pressing her muzzle to Hawkstar's cheek. "I picture him playing with our kits, regaling them with stories of your adventures together. It lessens the heartache."
Frozenrain thought of Minkpaw, the way their youngest had buried her face in her fur, devastated over Eagletalon's loss and unable to see a future where she would ever be alright again. And yet grief was a fickle thing; it took a long time to leave them, like leafbare, but there was always a moment of... painful clarity. That life went on. That the impact of those they lost was not diminished now that they no longer walked with the living.
"You have a rare opportunity to see him in the stars," Frozenrain mewed, thoughtful. "It breaks my heart to see you lose a life, but there are so many missed faces waiting to greet you, and now your brother is among them. It's bittersweet, isn't it? Beautiful and tragic in the same breath. Yet StarClan brings me peace, as well as every cat still here, living in the present, with us." The pale coated queen nuzzled him, breathing in his scent. "You and I have overcome mountains, my love. We will overcome our grief, in time." 234 Words // BlooRey DVD // Notes

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains He made a soft sound at her words, shifting his weight slightly so he could move his head to better see her features. Smiling at her, he closed his eyes briefly. "I spoke to him, that night. Introduced him to our kits... And he promised me he would care for them. I have no doubt in my mind the picture you see is the reality in StarClan." He'd always been told it was frowned upon to share with others the events within an interaction with StarClan. And yet... Hawkstar found it difficult to imagine not sharing everything within his soul with the she-cat before him.
She was his world, after all.
Pale amber eyes drifted open again, that gentle smile still resting comfortably on his features. "I cannot fathom what I would do without you, Frozenrain. What the Clan would do without you. You followed me in my path through leadership without any hesitation. You are as much a leader to the Clan as I. And I am strong because I have you." He rumbled, finding the strength to lift his head then so he could press his muzzle to her ear. A deep purr echoed in his chest, a reflection of his contentment at being surrounded by this she-cat he loved.
After a moment, he frowned softly, a more serious thought crossing his mind. His pale eyes sobered slightly, flickering with concern as he picked out the words to ask her. "How is Minkpaw doing?" He questioned quietly, his ear tilting back slightly as he recalled his daughter's reaction. "She took the news hardest, more so even than Herondive... I can only imagine her hurt. Has the changing of the seasons brought with it any relief?" He had more to ask, concerning their other kits, but in that moment, Minkpaw was his primary concern. And so he quieted, allowing Frozenrain to fill him in.
He trusted her judgment, which was exactly why he had reassigned Minkpaw's training to her following Eagletalon's death, despite typically avoiding parent-child mentor pairings. Generally, he worried not enough growth would occur if a kit were mentored by a parent. Considering the circumstances, however... He had feared that not assigning Minkpaw to her mother would do far more to hinder his daughter's growth. He only hoped he had been right. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain89 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClan"We are strong because we have each other," Frozenrain purred back, the love in her eyes clear. He always gave back tenfold the affection, respect and honesty she in turn gave to him. The love they had was a rare, incorruptible thing, and sometimes it left her breathless. Never in any of her days did Frozenrain dare take him or the kits they'd raised for granted.
Some things were simply too precious to easily dismiss.
Though the initial topic had been one of mourning, Frozenrain felt a warm, blossoming of relief in her belly that she could speak of Minkpaw positively. "She's returned to her mischievous self. Slatescreech informed me yesterday that he had a harsh wake-up call when Minkpaw put a live beetle in his ear." It was a mixture of exasperation and relief in her voice, the kind only a mother could feel for a trouble-seeking kit whose grief period was starting to dissipate.
"I made sure she apologized to Slatescreech face to face, and brought him something fresh from the kill pile. It crossed my mind to make our fiendish daughter change Slatescreech's bedding, but I have a feeling that would agitate him more than soothe." Frozenrain exhaled, disapproving of her daughter's mischief-making, but also seeing it for the positive thing that it was; a return to normalcy. 219 Words // BlooRey DVD // Notes @zen thanks for helping me write this post!

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The large tom couldn't help the relieved purr that escaped his maw as his mate confirmed his hopes. He had seen Minkpaw out about camp, seemingly back to her normal self but... It was difficult to tell what a cat had going on in their head. He'd been worried Minkpaw was putting on some sort of display for the Clan, but hearing that she was back to her pranking ways? The StoneClan figurehead chuckled a deep rumble, shaking his head slightly as he sighed and lay his muzzled back on Frozenrain's shoulder. "What will we ever do with that daughter of ours, hm?"
Mirth glittered behind his pale amber eyes, and his mind wandered to their other children. With a thoughtful sound, he glanced at the she-cat curled at his side. "We have been incredibly fortunate when it comes to our kits, have we not?" He commented, the edges of his silvered muzzle curving up at the thought of their four living kits. "Vipertail is outgoing and involved in Clan life, if not a little... Oblivious. I must have gotten that from me." He laughed, a deep rumble in his chest. "Herondive, despite previous mistakes... She wields determination behind her closed shell, and it has been moons since I've seen someone capable of hunting birds like her. Minkpaw, albeit a trouble maker, is fierce and stands up for what she believes."
He paused a moment, his eyes softening as the image of their youngest and palest coated daughter came to his mind. "And, despite the shaky start to her life... I cannot think of anyone who possesses more strength of mind than Snowpaw. We've truly been blessed..." He trailed off, eyes drifting shut. With a soft snort, he peeked at her from beneath a heavy eyelid. "Frozenrain, have I ever told you how much I love you?" He teased, knowing full well that he had indeed told her that several times throughout their life together.
But... It never hurt to remind her, now did it? leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix
