dewpaw, "G'night Swanfeather." Dewpaw said to her mentor, circling deep into her nest with a wide yawn. The day had been successful for the pair, herbs sorted and refreshed with the season. Tiredness sunk into her bones from the day's work, unable to give Swanfeather a rambling story for the pair to fall asleep to as she normally did. Her paws were dusty against her nose, scraps of scents seeping through the gaps of her toes. Back pressed warm against Swanfeather's, white fur mingling with white. She didn't hear the response as sleep quickly swarmed in.
Blue eyes opened to a sea of shifting white. It was stark compared to the dusky night Dewpaw fell asleep in. She squinted against the shifting landscape, briefly recognizing it as the moving winds similar to a leaf-bare snow fall. It wasn't cold. There was a peacefulness to the motion, like being cradled by Echoshade. It was familiar, a protecting warmth that ached to be reached. I've been here before! the apprentice realized, At the Moon Tree. The world was blindingly bright as snow was, but now with that bit of knowledge, she could make out shapes trying to identify themselves. There were shadows in the distance, trees? Bushes? Cats? There was a rumble of sound, a distance roar of voices that felt similar to catching converstaitons at the Gathering. There were words, but they vanished as quick as a firefly's flicker, unable to be identified.
She felt jostled by unseen presences, moving her paws along a path starting to appear before her. Blips of stone appeared, rolling into her vision with the smoothness of a river's flow. There was something here, something calling her forward. Flicking her tail with determination, the medicine cat apprentice followed. She would not let it escape this time. "Hello?" Dewpaw called into the wind. She felt her word tumble out of her mouth, bouncing back at her with a different voice.
"Hello."

FROSTFANG - STARCLAN GUIDE The wind continued to swirl in an almost endless dance. Hints of ice clung to the moving air the light chill met the she-cat cheek but quickly faded into something akin to warm green-leaf rain. His voice carried despite the wind, softer than his usual cadence but she heard him. There was hope now, a reserved prayer answered. Shifting and willing the wind to change, it stopped almost altogether and pulled inward. Almost like a gap in a dam, all the water rushing toward the exit. With a soft hiss the wind ceased to be and ice hung midair. From the form wind came the pure white shape of a tom-cat. His mixed matched eyes a striking contrast but his pelt far more dazzling. Instead of simply being white, like new snow, he shone with an ethereal quality. A light not reflected by his fur but coming from within him. Now with a more corporeal form, he was able to stand in front of Dewpaw but without warning, the wind started again. Blurring the edge of the tom, but that didn't deter him. Instead, he moved forward, pulling with him the wind and the peaceful cold sensation. "Nice to finally meet you Dewpaw, I'm Frostfang," He dipped his head in greeting, voice muffled by the rushing of the wind. "I'm here to teach you about StarClan," He added with a quirked smile barely noticeable due to the blurring of his form. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

dewpaw, Everything froze around her and Dewpaw gasped in delight. This was different, something new was happening. She watched as a cat stepped through the particles hanging in the air, patiently waiting for him to approach. The edges were soft as a memory might be and to Dewpaw, he shone as bright as the sun on Rainclan’s waters. Her blue eyes met his mismatched pair and she smiled with a giddiness that rose in her chest. He was beautiful and captivating and before he even spoke, she felt the dam break around them.
The suspended wind resumed, roaring into Dewpaw’s ears so startlingly that she whined in panic. Her tail fluffed up straight. The tom though was not alarmed, and she pulled from his calm as his voice braved the noise. “Nice to finally meet you Dewpaw, I’m Frostfang. I’m here to teach you about Starclan.” There was a smile there, she could sense it on the edges of her hearing. She returned his greeting with a quick dip of her head, eyes not leaving his form. If she looked away, he would vanish, and she’d be left alone in the storm, she worriedly thought.
“Why can’t Swanfeather teach me?” First thought popped out without delay. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment. “I’m- I’m sorry, that sounded- I’m so happy to meet you! I don’t, I didn’t mean that-uh, rudely.” She inhaled sharply to steady her thoughts. Watched his flickering form blend in with the movement of some unknown force, then snap into reality, before flowing into a blurry silhouette. “Please stay here, I want to learn from you.”

FROSTFANG - STARCLAN GUIDE He expected her to have questions but he didn't foresee that one. Faltering in his plan for a second, he regained his composure as she did her own backtracking. He chuckled slightly as he flicked his tail. "Walk with me and I'll tell you all that I can," He meowed turning slightly into the wind the had died down slightly but still continued to move. Giving her a moment to join him, Frostfang turned his attention to her as they walked. Their paws stepping onto the soft ground of a riverbank they walked beside the river, too large to be the actual RainClan river, but calming nonetheless. "What I am about to tell you about my Swanfeather is difficult to understand but it does not take away from her skill and dedication as a medicine cat," Frostfang told her as a preface to what he was going to tell her. Never in a million moons had he thought he'd ever be the one to do this. In his time since his death and arrival in StarClan, he had hoped to guide his Swanfeather as needed and greet her upon her own arrival in the forest. Despite not feeling physical pain, his heart ached for how things had changed. "A few moons ago Swanfeather did something unforgivable. She lied to her Clan not once but twice and used StarClan's name for that purpose. It was decided that she no longer receive dreams from StarClan, RainClan has been without StarClan for some time. Longer then you have been alive, but that is going to change. With your help," He told her with a flick of his barely-corporal tail to her shoulder. "It won't be easy, there is so much to learn and so much I much keep hidden. Just know I will be here for you in your dreams just as Swanfeather is there for you when you are awake," He added a charming smile to ease any discomfort she might have. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

dewpaw, Dewpaw followed the tom, whiskers blowing sideways as they turned into the wind. It wasn’t uncomfortable though, just a reminder of something unknown. As they moved, she watched the ground turn into a soft loamy soil of a riverbank. It was unexpected and Dewpaw paused her step to watch the river flow. She felt somewhere in her mind that this was the river that the pair had just been in. The river, as a Rainclan cat, was comforting, something to draw strength from, and rarely, something to get lost in. They had found their way out. They didn’t make it far. They could still touch the water, be tempted to take a swim. Tempted to remain lost. Dewpaw blinked at the water once more, then returned her attention to Frostfang with a panicked breath. She had forgotten her earlier promise to herself, but the tom remained at her side.
She listened, focusing solely on Frostfang as he told the story. There was a sadness to his words, slight enough that Dewpaw didn’t know what the emotion was directed at. Was he sad because he could not talk to Swanfeather, or was he sad because Rainclan had been disconnected from Starclan? Or both? Another reason entirely? A new thought burned in her chest, bright and hot from curiosity. What did she do?
“RainClan has been without StarClan for some time. Longer then you have been alive, but that is going to change. With your help. It won't be easy, there is so much to learn and so much I must keep hidden. Just know I will be here for you in your dreams just as Swanfeather is there for you when you are awake." His smile was smooth, settling against Dewpaw’s heart like a balm as silence floated over the pair. Her mind clicked away at the information she got, thinking back to Rushwhisker and his outburst in the middle of camp. He had been so angry, so defiant against the assistance Swanfeather wanted to give. It was her duty to care for her clan, right? Right?
“…” Dewpaw stared at her paws, watched the ground gain the familiar brown color of damp soil, mouth open but without the words to speak. She frowned, sorting her thoughts into something coherent before looking back up at Frostfang. He was warmth, white fur blending into the still swirling storm though it was being held at bay for now. She wanted that connection, the promise it offered her and Rainclan. It was the same connection Swanfeather offered her, Dewpaw realized. Her mentor was offering stability, a goal in life that now had its other half. “What do I need to learn? How do I- how do we rebuild?”

FROSTFANG - STARCLAN GUIDE Pleased with her words, Frostfang dipped his head to press against her forehead. A chill passed from him to her. "We will take it slow. I'll walk within some of your dreams. Tell you about StarClan and how to understand the dreams you when you visit Moontree. I have my own code to follow and I'm limited on how often I can talk to you aside from the moon tree," He told her pausing in their walk to shift his attention to the river. With the wind that seemed to follow him the ripples of the water were more violent, but still somehow relaxing. The river was tamed in the safety of StarClan's forest. "You need to actually get some sleep. You'll be surprised how tiring it is to be awake in your dreams," He told her with a playful lit to his voice. He intended on sending her back but paused, the burning question couldn't be held back any longer. "Could you tell me how Swanfeather is doing? Because of what she has done I'm not allowed to see her as often as I wish," His voice was softer now, speaking on the longing for the she-cat he loved more than life itself. Now that wasn't for Dewpaw to worry about but he did intend to tell her if she asked. He wasn't going to lie to her regardless of the rules set before him by those in greater power within StarClan. dewpaw, She breathed into his touch with a smile, the cold of it like her mother’s nose. They were going to reconnect Rainclan and Starclan, together! Dewpaw happily followed Frostfang’s steps, listening with a new-found joy. It wasn’t going to be easy, she knew as they looked out over the water. It was peaceful, the noise reaching her ears half muffled. “I’m glad you found me tonight.” She said, her voice breathless in excitement. “I know you tried at the moon tree, but I’m glad to see you now.”
At the thought of sleep, Dewpaw yawned wide. “I don’t- don’ need sleep.” She fully intended to say goodbye after that but Frostfang’s last question stopped her.
"Could you tell me how Swanfeather is doing? Because of what she has done I'm not allowed to see her as often as I wish,"
“She’s,” Dewpaw paused in thought. “I think she’s good. She’s trying really hard to teach me everything- there’s so many things to learn too! And I get distracted sometimes by just how much there is- There’s a lot of- and- she cares about me. Wants me to succeed. I think,” Dewpaw looks away from Frostfang, trying to figure out how to phrase her next thoughts. “I think she misses something, or someone really badly. There was a big fight with Rushwhisker and she was alone. No one jumped up to defend her. She has me-and Silverstar I think respects her- but whatever she did before me-before I existed, has left her on the outside. … Do you want me to tell her you said hi? I think she'd like that if you were her guide before.” Dewpaw asks, the gravity of the situation settling on her shoulders like a thin layer of snow. She felt it, understood his question meant something deeper, but the true meaning of why he asked escaped through her claws. She only had to trust that she was going in the right direction.

FROSTFANG - STARCLAN GUIDE There was a brief moment in which Frostfang felt his heartache for Swanfeather. More then all the past seasons. The pain tore into the very fiber of his soul, tugged hard and reminded him of why he had risked so much while he was alive for her happiness. Yet the pain didn't last. Almost like a bolt, the pain was whirled away. The pain wasn't allowed in StarClan's forest, physical or otherwise. This made thinking of Swanfeather a challenge, simply because his memories were tainted with shared pain. Her heart still called out to him and he longed to answer her. Lost for a moment in his thoughts, Frostfang refocused his attention on Dewpaw as she talked about her mentor. The mention of Rushwhisker had Frostfang attempting to place the tom in his head but realized it was likely one of the younger cats in RainClan, long after his time. In what he was realizing to be typical Dewpaw, she offered to talk to Swanfeather on his behalf. A sad smile formed on his face as he nodded in approval. "I'd like that. Just tell her I think about her all the time," He told her, sweeping his tail to touch the she-cats shoulder. "You must wake up now and get some training done. I'll try to visit again in a few days," He added before turning to press a cold nose to her forehead, a way to wake her up. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

dewpaw, "I'd like that. Just tell her I think about her all the time," Dewpaw smiled wide then it dropped, realizing Frostfang's form was starting to vanish again. The mists had crept back in, a sign that their meeting was coming to an end. She didn't want to leave. He was a good cat, listened to her and knew Swanfeather before she had lied to the clan. He felt something for her, deeply, and Dewpaw knew she would cradle that feeling with protective paws. She wouldn't forget the way his voice grew soft when asking for her mentor. At his nose touch, cold spread through her body. It was heavy, like being covered in fresh snowfall. But she felt safe, and Dewpaw mumbled a goodbye as her eyelids drooped.
They opened to the far off sounds of Rainclan waking, the grumbles of cats on the dawn patrol and the excited squeals of kits waking before their mothers wanted to be awake. Dewpaw felt exhausted as she had the night before, paws heavy as she stretched long in her nest. Flopping onto her side, she touched her nose to Swanfeather's side to check if her mentor was awake. It earned her a huff, but Dewpaw smiled nonetheless. She had reached Starclan!
