MAplebROOk
32 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan
Numb, that was how Maplebrook felt all the time, like all the happiness that once illuminated the very air around the young she cat was gone, sucked up by Starclan like the lives of her two kits that had never even taken one breath before they rejoined the stars. The warrioress had named them of course, little Brightkit and her brother Pantherkit were buried next to Maplebrook's brother and parents, It felt so strange, being the only one alive in the family again when just a short time ago, she had been expecting two new lives to make up for the void cast by her parent's lack of attention and now that had been snatched from her as well.
How was she supposed to feel? Because all she felt was empty and numb, to depressed to even feel sad. Her ears flicked continously as if she hoped to hear the sweet mews of her offspring but all that was there was the regular noise of camp.
She couldn't stay in the nursery, as sweet as Honeysong had been, Maplebrook could not bare to see her kits, so sweet and full of life when her own had not made it.
Of course Falconstorm had insisted on keeping her in the medicine den for a few days as she had lost a lot of blood during the birth but she had her suspicions that he just wanted to watch her, make sure she wouldn't go insane or something, However he had instructed her she could return to her duties as a warrior when she felt better. Better? what a laughable concept! Falconstorm was sweet and caring but he was not a she cat, he did not fully understand the pain the warrioress was in and if she was honest, for the first time in her entire life Maplebrook actually wanted to be alone.
She was not so depressed as to end her own life just to join her kits, that was selfish, there were plenty of cats alive that still needed her, her sweet and delicate former apprentice Fawnspring for one. That was the one thing she took solace from, that and her walk to the Sparkling Brook to get a drink.
The water was still too cold for a dip and the icy air nipped at Maplebrook's skin, her short fur was not much help in the still cold air of Leaf Bare, despite it being near the end of the season. Maplebrook glanced down at the water, her reflection staring back at her and she broke down, sobbing at the water's edge, head buried in the side of her fur as the unfairness of her life seemed to tighten its grip, she was so distraught and lost in her own problems that she did not even notice the approach of another cat, quite frankly she didn't care.
"The loss of a child is a process, it starts the day the child passes and ends the day the parent joins them"
