MAplebROOk 29 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan " NO Olivebramch I told you I won't cover for you again!" Maplebrook hissed at her clanmate, earning a suprised look from the calico warrioress before her, Maplebrook never said no to anyone nor was she usually this abrupt, The warroress seemed to dimiss the silver tabby's claim and followed after Maplebrook with a army of words to convince the younger feline. "But Maplebrook, it's important and it's not like you have something better to do" She was cut off from the rest of her statement by a annoyed hiss and a sharp pang on her nose as Maplebrook struck out in her frustration. Paw connecting with the side of Olivebranch's maw. Maplebrook's bright eyes scanned the other she cat, murder in her eyes but despite her anger she did not actually hurt Olivebranch but the pushy she cat learned that Maplebrook was not the placid she cat was was usually
" I SAID NO" Maplebrook yowled angrily before storming off, Olivebranch was left standing in the middle of camp with her maw hanging open in shock as she watched as one of the most placid member's of treeclan stormed off into the territory like a hesterical kit. "Hmmph" Olvebranch muttered darkly " I'll go to Lionstar myself" She added menencingly, directing her attention to her leader with a false smile plastered on her ginger and black face. " Lionstar, I fear Maplebrook is in a mood,, she... hit me... without reason... Can you speak to her?" The false modesty was clear to most but Olivebranch had been doing this for a long time.. she would not let Maplebrook get away with refusing.
She was a princess,
with the strength of a warrior Fawn ( Lionstar mention) As if Maplebrook needs any more enemies, I thought having her get snappy might be enough for Lionstar to notice something is wrong.

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars "Lionstar, I fear Maplebrook is in a mood,, she... hit me... without reason... Can you speak to her?"
The golden tom slowly raised his head from the thin grackle he'd been eating, having already brought prey to his mate and kits. Olivebranch was tattling on Maplebrook. Lionstar almost snorted. He could not claim to know what had happened between them - but he found it difficult to believe that two grown warriors could not handle their differences like mature adults.
The trouble between Finchpaw and Amberwing was one thing, but this bordered on kittish behavior. Lionstar wore a neutral, patient expression. "Give Maplebrook time to herself, Olivebranch. I have faith you two can reach an understanding." Without my help. He would find the she-cat to get her side of the story, just to make sure this wasn't a harbinger of something disastrous, but it was not at the top of his to-do list for today.
It was leafbare. They needed to focus on prey and den insulation. Staying warm. With the weather turning colder and the snow coming down harder, more cats were being confined to camp - it made sense that tempers would run a bit high. However, Lionstar did not want to walk over to Maplebrook as if he catered to Olivebranch's every emotional slight.
Deciding to hunt mice in place of hunting down Maplebrook, Lionstar set off into the forest. Wide paws ate through the snow, leaving sizeable tracks behind as he stalked through TreeClan's domain. One mouse later - which he covered with snow to keep hidden - Lionstar had just raised his muzzle to the wind when he caught Maplebrook's scent. Now that Olivebranch was nowhere nearby, Lionstar cut across the terrain to greet Maplebrook with a smile and a raised tail. Friendly, not nearly as authoritative as he might otherwise appear. "Good hunting?" Lionstar mewed upon arrival. I've been building up all these kingdoms for so long It's good to be king 84 Moons || TreeClan || 306 Words || @kahani

MAplebROOk 29 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Pleased that she had successfully caused enough choas for Maplebrook as retatilation for her ' slight' against the calico warrior Olivebranch offered her leader nothing more than a grim smile before vanishing into the busy camp to go and annoy someone else. Maplebrook on the other hand, was in a bit of a state when after a while Lionstar appeared before her and asked in a relatively easy going tone if hunting was good, the young warrioress' ears flicked as her nerves got the best of her, with the tom so close she was sure he would be able to see her rounder stomach and she shifted in place to block his sight of her belly, Starclan knows what would happen if he found out she was expecting kits.
" I do my best Lionstar" She purred softly, respectfully adressing her leader before her green eyes meet the area just below his own gaze, Maplebrook was raised to believe that looking a leader in the eye was a way of challenging their authority and in her experience, that had never gone well. " I didn't mean to lash out at Olivebranch" She spoke honestly, guessing that Olivebranch had spoken to Lionstar about her behaviour and she could not stop the flare of irritation that eloped her. It was very immature of Olivebranch to pester Lionstar about every time Maplebrook did something the other she cat did not like, it was pointless to involve their leader in not so serious matters and made it seem like Maplebrook herself was incapable of acting like an adult cat.
" It was very foolish of me to react the way I did and while I am not feeling my usual self at the moment, there is no excuse, I appoloise for inconviencing you Lionstar" She continued. What was there to explain, Olivebranch had pestered her about covering for her in patrol duty until Maplebrook's normally endless patience ran out and she lashed out. " She wanted me to cover for her on patrol, but I cannot" She offered no explanation as to why she could not, just hoped that he might let the matter drop if she appologised.
Her belly twiched suddenly and Maplebrook's eyes darted towards her stomach as if accusing the things within of betraying her, It was a Queen's privilege to keep the father of her litter a secret and that was just what Maplebrook intended to do if she ever actually had to admit she was pregnant. If she was honest, she did not want to.. It would make it real, it would change how she viewed her relationship with Harestrike.
" I have a shorter temper these days and Olivebranch is know to be a little psshy" Was the last words that left her maw as she wiped her face with a paw, She liked Lionstar and respected him as a leader but right now she wanted to be alone. She was a princess,

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars Lionstar chuckled. "Believe it or not, I did not come here to scold you. You and Olivebranch aren't apprentices. You can work out any disagreements for yourselves." Everyone was allowed to have a bad day once in a while; tempers shortened with the days, and there was nothing like the scary possibility of a prey shortage to put everyone on edge. But this was an isolated incident. "Olivebranch should handle her own patrols, same as any cat," he added, resting his gaze upon the short-furred she-cat.
Speaking of her short fur... It was obvious to most of the older cats in the Clan (who had seen this sort of thing before) that Maplebrook was pregnant. Lionstar didn't ask about the father. It was a queen's right to keep it secret. "Take care that you do not push yourself too hard. Your health," Lionstar gently tapped her flank with the end of his tail, "--and theirs, is very important."
He would have a word with Gorsetail to put her on light duty. Leafbare was a scary time to have a litter, but with proper cautionary measures, Lionstar believed everything would work out just fine. It wouldn't be long before Falconstorm ordered her on nest-rest in the nursery. With the pregnant she-cat in the better-insulated den, it would be one less weight from his mind. He could not help but worry about everyone, especially the younger warriors. I've been building up all these kingdoms for so long It's good to be king 84 Moons || TreeClan || 234 Words || @kahani

MAplebROOk 32 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan " Believe it or not, I am not here to scold you, You and Olivebranch are not apprentices, you can work out disagreements yourselves."
Lionstar had a point, both she and Olivebranch had been apprentices together and warriors for 20 moons. Realistically they could sort out their own problems without bringing in a mediator like Lionstar or Gorsetail. Unfortunately this reasoning assumed that Olivebranch was capable of rational thought and the vindictive calico feline had a nack for acting like a kit when she was confronted.
" We could, if Olivebranch acted her age and not like a spoilt kit who was denied something" Maplebrook mused, a touch of bitterness in her tone, Olivebranch was Maplebrook's rival, a calico she cat the same age as Maplebrook with a liking for causing problems in Maplebrook's life. Oft times her discretion wirh her relationship with Harestrike was more so to keep Olivebranch finding out than anyone else.
Her leader's next words left her silent "..Their health..." she mused softly as if repeating it would make her less terrified of the concept. " I'm scared Lionstar." she admitted, her voice barely a whisper as she looked at her swollen stomach with a kind of resignation, an reluctant acceptance of what was happening in her life.
Lionstar was not stupid and Maplebrook was a terriable liar, she could say she was just fat but her moods and general aura had changed and that could not be explained away by lack of food, especially when she seemed to be getting bigger. " I fear I will let them down, be a bad queen"

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars Lionstar listened, his expression softening with understanding. He wouldn't claim to know the ins and outs of every TreeClan cat's social life - but there was something about this that said, quite clearly, 'unexpected'. Sometimes unexpected was synonymous with 'terrifying'. The future seemed to loom ahead, especially to cats as young as she; and now she was going to be responsible for more than just herself. Lionstar understood that fear quite clearly.
"Your kits will be in safe paws. And you will not have to raise them alone; the other queens will be more than willing to help. Being a parent is a little like being deputy or leader." The golden tom almost chuckled at himself. When had he become such an authority on parenthood? Not since recently. However, the sense of duty and willingness to sacrifice was one in the same. "Or being a mentor. You've done excellently with Fawnpaw, despite her being your first apprentice. Like all things, it takes getting used to, and there will be mistakes along the way," Lionstar had made many, no matter the position he held in the Clan. It was sobering, humbling. "I believe you have the strength to adjust, and that you will be a mother they will adore and respect."
Believing Moonfeather to be a standing model for enduring the trials of motherhood at such a young age, Lionstar immediately thought of her. His own mate, Honeysong, was of a much older age than Maplebrook; he had full faith in her being able to pass on sound advice, but Maplebrook may prefer to hear it from someone closer to her own age. He would speak with Moonfeather before he sent Maplebrook her way; he was getting better at not making assumptions and decisions without first checking with others.
He was a leader, yes, but these could be delicate matters. I've been building up all these kingdoms for so long It's good to be king 84 Moons || TreeClan || 307 Words || @kahani Justice (Moonfeather/Honeysong mention!)

MAplebROOk 32 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Lionstar's advice was as suprising as it was encouraging and the expecting warrior found herself smiling at her leader, genuinely smiling as he told her that she would be fine after all she had gotten Fawnpaw all trained up and ready to be a warrior, but parenthood seemed so much more scary.
Sure mentoring was about passing on knowledge of the warrior code, but parenthood was about life itself, teaching a helpless little kit how to defend itself in those first crucial moons of life, havinf to think of not only her life but the lives of those growing inside her. " But what about favouritism?how do I keep myself impartial to my kit's love them all the same? You know my own parents did not extend that curtesy to me." She revealed softly, never had she told anyone how her parent's treated her, it was always covered up by them, changing the topic or discussing how they adored their kit, though that was quickly changed to kits once Maplebrook was mentioned.
"It was always about Sparrowfoot, how well he was doing? what he had learned that day, I don't want to do that to them" Maplebrook's green eyes were pleading with her leader as she spoke, all she wanted was some comfort, some advice and a good nap.

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars Lionstar gave her question - so full of desperation for an answer that would quell the anxious mother's fears - serious consideration. After a moment, the golden tom spoke honestly. "We may be our parents' children, but that doesn't mean we have to follow in their footsteps. You know what it's like, Maplebrook, to be treated unfairly, to be neglected by your own parents. I'm not saying they were bad cats, just that they did not give you the nurturing you deserved."
He gave her ear a fatherly lick, though that would hardly make up for moons and moons of imbalanced affection from her mother and father. But it was a gesture meant to show her she was not as alone as she perhaps realized. Lionstar had long ago become taken with the idea that he was everyone's father figure. It explained his enduring fondness for mentoring.
"You know what it's like, and I know you do not want that for your future kits. You will be able to love them all equally, Maplebrook. Your heart is large enough, and up to the task." He believed this. Lionstar did not have the gift of understanding everyone's reasoning behind their decisions, so he could only piece together what caused the kind of favoritism Maplebrook spoke of. "You won't hang all your hopes and dreams on only one kit. I believe favoritism comes out of expectation, and when those expectations are met, that kit is then showered in attention - especially if they keep meeting those expectations. Do not expect more from one kit than the other, but love them equally, and I think you will be just fine." MAplebROOk 32 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Maplebrook paused in her frantic rambling when instead of scolding her for even thinking about unbalanced affection Lionstar instead offered her a fatherly lick on the ear. It surprised the young queen to be and she offered him a soft purr and a smile in thanks. His doting however was pushed aside when the tom continued to talk, this time about how he believed her heart to be big enough for all her kits.
" Thank you Lionstar, hopefully my kits will be okay, they don't have a father like you but I hope that Starclan favours them just the same" The expecting feline did not claim to know the very thoughts of her leader, or even to share a nest with him but it was not like she needed to, it was clear he was a good father, not just to his kits but to all the young cats in the clan.
It delighted her that he had finally found happiness in Honeysong, the lilac queen was beautiful and kind and matched the leader's personality wonderfully. It was Maplebrook's opinion that they made the cutest couple and the three little kits they bought into the world were undeniably adorable.
Making a mental note to visit Honeysong in the nusery after her hunting trip Maplebrook turned her head to thank her leader before she excused herself and dissappeared out of camp to go hunting one more time. Perhaps she could steal Fawnpaw from Thornpaw for one last training session. Lionstar had mentioned making them warriors in the next couple of moons.
