The world was at an angle, steep and sheer, like the face of a large rock. Yet it's end stretched into eternity, her frantic amber eyes unable to find any source of vegetation, something to call familiar. Breaths shook her limbs, the sound echoing across the unforgiving landscape as she fell. Claws scrabbled at any bit of green, trying in vain to just stop falling. The sky above did not let up either, it's darkness like a rain cloud pouring water with the intention of flooding the land below. She felt flattened and even though her chest heaved, they could not fill her lungs full without experiencing pressure. She let out a panicked scream as the blackness caved in with anger intention.
Sorrelpaw jerked in her sleep, limbs lashing out. She inhaled a large breath, causing saliva to travel down the wrong tube. Coughing, the tabby apprentice rose on shaky paws. too crowded in here, came the wild thought. must get out, get air. She scrambled over her sleeping clanmates, forgetting in her haste to watch out for tails or paws sprawled out. The air outside the den was cooler, thankfully, and burned her lungs with each inhale. She did not feel calmer by leaving the den, her paws still trembled and her fur fluffed out. She looked like a disgruntled hedgehog more than a Stoneclan apprentice. With a whimper, Sorrelpaw let her weak limbs collapse, and she let herself heap in front of the entrance.

I got this feeling inside my bones 6 Moons, StoneClan, Tom, Apprentice
Viperpaw flinched awake as he heard thrashing and choking. Was someone being attacked? Flicking his tail in front of his nose, the ebony tom glanced about from his corner of the den with narrowed eyes; the green orbs locking on Sorrelpaw who was stumbling towards the exit.
There was no attacker but something was definitely wrong. A small part of him squeaked that it wasn't his business and he should go back to sleep but he mentally slapped that part of him and silently stood; slinking after Sorrelpaw.
Looking around the camp, Viperpaw's heart fell as he saw Sorrelpaw crouch down in front of the apprentice den - a quiet whimper exiting her throat. He hated seeing his friend like this. Friend? For some reason that word didn't feel right but he shook away the thoughts.
Crouching low, he edged towards Sorrelpaw, swishing his tail against the ground so she could hear him coming. He slowed to a stop as he reached her side and gave her a soft smile.
"Are... Are you okay?" Viperpaw asked. He wish he could offer some advice or anything, asking such a simple question seemed so useless and obvious. He didn't care though. He was going to tell Sorrelpaw, he'd always be there for her - now and for as long as she needed.

A gentle sound broke her thoughts, a familiar swish. Like a tail, signifying an appearance. Her father had done that before, finding a younger Sorrelpaw sulking outside camp, frustration coloring her vision. His words then had been kind. Now, he was probably asleep in the warrior's den, age catching up to his formidable paws. Amber eyes turned towards the noise, surprise flicking. Viperpaw had come out of the den, and slight panic filled her chest like butterflies. "Did I wake you?" She whispered, voice hoarse. She ached as if she had been fighting through deep snow and had nothing to show for her efforts. "I'm sorry." It was bad enough that she kept dreaming about falling between the rocks, but to wake another apprentice? Oh, that was horrible. At least it was Viperpaw, a quiet thought said. He seems to care, eyes full of worry. Realizing the black tom had asked a question, Sorrelpaw shook her head. She could trust him. "I had a nightmare."

Viperpaw settled down next to her, intent on staying with her until whatever was bothering her left her alone. He hated not being able to help, and he utterly loathed not being able to help Sorrelpaw.
"Did I wake you? I'm sorry."
"Yeah, you did fidget-butt." Viperpaw whispered, blinking at her softly and carefully brushing his cheek against her shoulder to signal that he was joking.
"I had a nightmare."
A nightmare? Viperpaw blinked in brief confusion before a glance to her leg refreshed his memory. Of course, he was so stupid. Wounds can hurt everything - your body, your pride... and in Sorrelpaw's case, it was hurting her dreams. The tom's green eyes focused on his paws as he tried to think of something to say.
"I... I think nightmareth are fine. Well, not fine fine but they mean you're healing. Your mind ith healing, and knowing you, you'll beat away the nightmareth before you even know it." He chirped, praying that he wasn't rambling. Heart racing as fast as a rabbit, Viperpaw awkwardly rested his forehead against Sorrelpaw's shoulder.
"And if they keep trying to bother you, I'll beat them up." Viperpaw claimed, letting a playful growl rumble quietly out of his throat.

"Yeah, you did fidget-butt." The nudge was grounding, something she appreciated with her whole self. Her paws still tingled at the thought of having to grasp her way down the hill. With each passing breath, trying to sync with the tom, Sorrelpaw wished to find herself back in reality. These nightmares were hurting her ability to train. She couldn't even train with her mentor over battle techniques without panic shooting through her system.
"I... I think nightmareth are fine." Her ears pricked, head tilting at the thought. She watched as Viperpaw's eyes widened with what he said, quickly find a solution that eased her heart. "Well, not fine fine but they mean you're healing. Your mind ith healing, and knowing you, you'll beat away the nightmareth before you even know it."
It is healing, she thought slowly, banishing the images from the day's failed training sessions. I wish it'd heal faster. She sighed into his lean, a gentle huff of tiredness. She placed her head awkwardly on top of his. It was a weird embrace, but she could only hope that her gratefulness for his willingness to even wake up and help shone through.
"And if they keep trying to bother you, I'll beat them up." "Hah!" Sorrelpaw laughed, not out of mockery, but of the idea of little Viperpaw fighting her nightmares. The sliding cliffs and the anguished cries of a mother who can't be helped. "That won't be easy, but I appreciate the thought." She flicked her tail gently against his back.

Viperpaw began to shakily purr as Sorrelpaw rested her head atop his. An unusual tingly feeling was making his ribcage itch but he didn't find it unpleasant. It felt like his heart was going to jump out of his mouth and start dancing across the cold stone.
Her laugh was very pretty. The sudden thought popped into his head, making his pelt heat up. ...He wanted to make her laugh some more, Viperpaw decided. It was so unfair that she had been wounded in her apprenticeship - she'd have been a warrior now if she hadn't been, and one of the best warriors no doubt.
"That won't be easy, but I appreciate the thought."
Viperpaw's purr increased slightly in volume. His tail tip twitched as he built up some courage to continue speaking.
"Things that are worthwhile are never easy, but you make me feel like I could take on a mountain and win." Viperpaw claimed, glancing upwards at the stone walls of the camp.

Sorrelpaw felt his purr get louder, rumbling through her chest to settle there like her mother's would when she was a younger apprentice. It was comforting, to say the least. "Things that are worthwhile are never easy, but you make me feel like I could take on a mountain and win." Viperpaw said, and the tabby flushed hot under her fur. First she felt flattered, unsure but amazed that he could feel so deeply at such young an age. Then frustration at herself boiled up. No one should have to fight mountains for her! She shouldn't have gotten this injury in the first place! That dumb warrior had slipped and suddenly her dreams were stalked by a wailing mother and slippery cliffs that closed in on her chest like the weight of said warrior frantically trying to get out of the clausterphobic mess they found themselves in.
With a noncommutal noise response, Sorrelpaw shifted away. She regretted it immediately as his warmth left her side, but she flopped ungracefully on her side, stretching her back legs out. The stretch felt soothing after being crouched over for so long. She was babying herself though, as Frozenrain would point out sometimes during the day, making it easier for her leg to rest without pressure. It needed the pressure as well, her mentor's voice said and she sighed heavily into Viperpaw's front legs. "Viperpaw, I do not doubt you'd win. You have the biggest heart of all of Stoneclan." She said, looking up at him before covering her face with one front leg. "But it still sucks. It wasn't even anyone's fault. We just- we slipped. And now I get nightmares."

Viperpaw widened his eyes with worry as Sorrelpaw shifted away, relaxing somewhat as she stretched out and rested her head on his front legs. Her sigh made his ears twitch and he quieted his purring so he could hear what was bothering her still.
"Viperpaw, I do not doubt you'd win. You have the biggest heart of all of Stoneclan."
Viperpaw gave her a goofy grin at that, feeling his heart flutter as she looked up at him.
"-But it still sucks. It wasn't even anyone's fault. We just- we slipped. And now I get nightmares."
The ebony tom had no reply to that. Mistakes were mistakes, accidents were accidents, but it didn't seem to matter that it wasn't Sorrelpaw's fault, she still seemed like she felt the brunt of it and was still suffering.
"Accidents suck a lot but there's no way we can escape their consequences, you don't deserve to suffer from the nightmares but they still happen."
Viperpaw sighed and rested his head beside Sorrelpaw's. He had no clever words, no comforting advice. He just felt like a useless kit again.
"I wish I could do more to help you." He murmured, feeling weaker than ever. What use was he when he can't even protect his beloved clanmate from nightmares? His green gaze turned upward, as if the answers were hidden in the stars. It goes electric wavey when I turn it on williams no clever words ;-;

Her paws shifted from her face, eyes staring out across Stoneclan's camp as she listened to Viperpaw's response. They were sound thoughts. He really was trying his best to ease any part of her situation. It was unfair of her to put so much on the tom, but no one else was listening. The medicine cats, as wonderful as they were, couldn't heal her mind as easily as they could her leg. Her mentor tried, going slow with training as they crept closer and closer to the battle training. Yet, she still fled from it when Vipertail had fallen on her. The crushing clausterphobia has swarmed into her head and the response was to get out of there. She hadn't even apologized to either of them yet. I should do that tomorrow she decided, feeling the weight of Viperpaw as he placed his head beside her.
At first she stiffened, waiting for the tightness to appear in her chest. But instead, it felt soothing, like being cocooned in a warm nest. He was smaller than her, showing his age rather than skill, but the feeling was still there. She wanted to purr, but felt the mood shift. Something was bothering Viperpaw. "I wish I could do more to help you." Oh.
Sorrelpaw cleared her throat, "You have done a lot so far." She said, starting a low purr. "You're here, trying to help. Listening and, being here. It's helping." All the other warriors her age had already graduated, the rest of the apprentices younger. But here little Viperpaw was, barely out of the nursery really, giving his full love and support. And Sorrelpaw appreciated it with her whole heart.

Viperpaw's ears twitched nervously as he listened for Sorrelpaw's response. He hoped he hadn't upset her. She was a very tough beautiful she-cat, in his eyes, and he hoped his desire to help her hadn't been insulting.
"You have done a lot so far. You're here, trying to help. Listening and, being here. It's helping."
Viperpaw purred with amusement and relief. He looked at Sorrelpaw, vivid green eyes almost glowing in the gloom of the camp.
"If I knew helping wath that eathy, I'd have tried to become a medithine cat." He joked, tail stirring against the ground.
The black tom fell quiet, closing his eyes and he listened to the silence that smothered the camp, and the soothing quiet heartbeat of Sorrelpaw. In all honesty, he could lie here until the fur on his muzzle grew grey and that would be enough for him. A cold wind cut apart his daydream as it forced through his fur, causing Viperpaw to shiver.
"How about we get inthide? It'th getting colder out here." Viperpaw suggested, carefully standing up so to not step on Sorrelpaw. It goes electric wavey when I turn it on williams you went and gave him cooties you villain

"If I knew helping wath that eathy, I'd have tried to become a medithine cat." Sorrelpaw laughed with the younger apprentice, the pair jostling together at the idea. He was a good warrior apprentice she thought, trying to imagine Viperpaw giving quick orders with his lisp. It wasn't a bad thing to deal with, but it would make it different for those seeking treatment.
She sighed with a note of happiness, enjoying the warmth shared between them and the calmness that spread over camp and her own mind. Eyes closed as Sorrelpaw listened to Viperpaw's breathing, the quiet rumble of creatures in the forest and the gentle breeze through the trees. This is what night should be.
"How about we get inthide? It'th getting colder out here." A breeze cut over the pair, spawning a rather sensible request. Sorrelpaw nodded, rising slowly to allow the pair to untangle themselves "No more monsters to fight tonight." She said.
Before she circled down into her nest, she touched Viperpaw's ear with her nose. "Thank you, Viperpaw.
