PETALRAIN The pretty tabby she-cat rolled away from Tumbleflight and gave her body a little shake. The tomcat opened an eye to peek at his nest mate. "Are you coming back?" He whispered in the softness of the warrior's den. "No I'm training Sootpaw today,"She replied before fixing herself the task of grooming her pelt, smoothing down the fur until it shined. "I meant tonight, in my nest again," He asked sitting upward slightly to watch her prepare her pelt to be as dazzling as ever. "Maybe, but no promises," She purred, she left the tom in his nest with a lick to his cheek and a tickle of her tail along his chin. He watched her leave before going back to sleep.
Once outside in the bustle of Clan life, Petalrain was able to fully stretch herself out. Extending her legs to help wake up the muscle. She spotted Sootpaw near the apprentice den and quickly made a beeline for her apprentice but was stopped by Redclaw. I missed you last night," He purred in greeting, brushing his head again Petalrain's cheek. Her emerald eyes sparkled at his attention and she returned the gesture with a purr of her own. "Maybe tonight I'll find myself in your nest," She told him a playful lit in her voice. "I hope so," He told her plainly but Petalrain was already bypassing him and heading for her apprentice.
"Sootpaw, are you ready? You and I are going to the RainClan border with Boulderjaw and Moustep," She told her apprentice, fully expecting the younger cat to agree and follow after her. tags: @calico word count: ### notes: do androids dream of electric sheep?

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw, sitting outside the apprentice's den, drew a paw over her ear self-consciously. She hadn't slept very well, so was still a little tired, but was trying desperately to wake herself up enough so that she wouldn't fall back asleep where she was sat. She heard her name being called, turned her head to face the cat who had spoken. It was her mentor, Petalrain. "You and I are going to the RainClan border with Boulderjaw and Mousestep"
Sootpaw sedately got to her paws and made as if to follow Petalrain, casting a wistful glance at the opening to the apprentice's den, where her nest awaited her. Shaking her head to clear the last vestiges of tiredness from herself, she pelted over to where Petalrain was stood waiting.
"Sounds great. Where are they? Would you like me to go get them?"
She stood alongside Petalrain, the two she-cats standing shoulder to shoulder. Words:177, Tags: Hellion, Muse: Excited, Notes ✣

PETALRAIN Petalrain wasn't blind and was able to see that Sootpaw was fairly tired. Petalrain flicked her tail a bit back and forth, as she waited for their other clanmates to arrive. Then she heard Sootpaw offer to go find them. "I'm sure they will be here soon no reason for you to wander off and then we are waiting for you to come back," She told her young apprenitce and sure enough Mousestep and Boulderjaw were both sighted. Mousestep was a young father and while Petalrain had only a minimal interests in kits, she did find him cute. Like his brother, Boulderjaw was eye-candy but t Petalrain was pretty sure he didn't like she-cats at all, not that she cared. "Glad you two could make it, you look very nice today Mousestep," She meowed her greeting but purred her praise for Mousestep. The tom's ears twitched and he looked a little flushed. Ripe for the picking. "We are going to the RainClan border," She told them before flicking her tail and heading for the entrance of camp and departing through the walkway. Boulderjaw as stoic as ever moved to take the lead not that Petalrain minded. She moved to walk beside Mousestep and pressed herself close to him. He did the same and the two walked together in stride. Petalrain might have asked for Sootpaw to come along but it was clear that the young warrior wasn't paying much attention to her charge. tags: @calico word count: ### notes: blah

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw raised her eyes to the heavens in disbelief as she found herself being ignored in favour of Mousestep. Sure, Petalrain was equally as polite to Boulderjaw as well, but it seemed her praise (and her affection) was all for Mousestep.
Did Petalrain really think that all tom-cats' hearts were ripe for the playing with? Like it was all a game to the beautiful she-cat? Sootpaw hated her attitude, but steeled herself to at least try and like her. After all, Hawkstar had chosen Petalrain specifically for Sootpaw, and for her part, Sootpaw was determined to get the she-cat to like her. somehow.
Noticing Petalrain had already started walking, shoulders pressed against Mousestep, she sprinted to keep up, finding herself ahead of them and next to Boulderjaw.
Now here was another example of a gigantic cat.
"Um, Boulderjaw? Do you mind if I walk alongside you?"
Boulderjaw looked at her blankly, his thoughts were not on them at all.
"Shouldn't you be with your ment-oh. Yes. You can walk with me." He'd looked over his shoulder at how close Petalrain and Mousestep were.
Sootpaw dipped her head in a gesture of respect as she kept pace with the mountainous tom, allowing him to lead her while her mentor was... otherwise occupied. 244, Hellion, Sorry for accidental powerplaying if there was any ✣

PETALRAIN Petalrain watched as Sootpaw took a few step to catch up with Blouderjaw but her attention didn't stay long. Instead she turned and looked toward Mousestep and began talking to him about everything. Her tone was flirty and sure enough Mousestep was picking up on her ton and returned the gesture. The two didn't stop until the scent of RainClan filled Petalrain's nose.
Realizing she ought to actually talk about the border, she took a few steps away from Mousestep and took the lead of the patrol.
"As I told you already this is the RainClan border. You might not know this Sootpaw, but RainClan and LightingClan once drove us out of the valley. It is important you never trust a cat from either Clan and keep your paws on this side of the border," She explained before Mousestep took a step forward to add his own commentary.
"It is important to never come to the border alone even when you are a full warrior. You can't be sure who is lurking on the edge," He added with a flick of his tail before using his tail to point to a stone.
"We mark the stones they mark the grasses along the river." He told her before looking toward Petalrain, she was pleased considering she didn't have to explain anything.
"You and Boulderjaw can mark the stones together up ahead and Mousestep and I will mark the stones this way," She told her before stepping away and waiting for Mousestep to join her.

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw wrinkled her nose at the scent of RainClan. It smelled odd. It smelt.. fishy. She didn't like it in the slightest, it was nothing like the reassuring scent of StoneClan.
RainClan and LightningClan drove StoneClan out? Sootpaw wondered why she had never been told that story. I must ask Fallenleaf about that, later on. If anyone would know, it would be her.
She looked out toward RainClan territory. It looked innocent enough. Wet, but innocent. Could it really be the site of such a one-sided battle? Sootpaw shivered. She'd be keeping her paws well inside the border. Her opinion was only reinforced when Mousestep took over the reins. What was this, a multi-training session now? She looked her mentor dead in the face, before looking to the ground in an attempt to hide her frustration.
Boulderjaw said nothing as Petalrain named him to mark the stones that formed their side of the border with Sootpaw. He merely looked interested for a moment, before turning and slowly walking in the direction he had been allocated, pausing to place a scent-marker at regular intervals.
Sootpaw moved her head, turning from Boulderjaw to Mousestep and Petalrain. They had already walked off, animated bursts of chatter being overheard, but getting steadily quieter as a larger distance formed between them.
Looking back at Boulderjaw, she didn't miss the look of disdain cross his features.
"Boulderjaw... Why are you immune? Why does Petalrain show no interest in you whatsoever? Did something happen between the two of you?"
A smile crossed his features briefly, before being replaced with the stoic look he'd had so far up to this point. A rumbling purr came from him, before he replied, sounding amused: "Because, little Sootpaw, I don't like she-cats. She knows this. Therefore she leaves me alone."
This just left Sootpaw feeling increasingly confused. Doesn't like she-cats? What does he mean?
"So... you don't like any cat at all?"
He chuckled. "Oh, the innocence of youth. No, little one. I like toms. I'm gay."
Sootpaw wondered to herself if that was the reason why he looked so... so solemn, whenever Petalrain was around. Maybe he liked Mousestep, and didn't appreciate her stepping on Boulderjaw's paws?
It was as if Boulderjaw had sensed her thoughts. "Myself and Mousestep are siblings. The two are welcome to each other."
He finished marking the last scent-marker along the border. "Come, we should turn back and wait for them where they left us. StarClan knows what they're getting up to."

PETALRAIN Petalrain watched at Boulderjaw and Sootpaw took off in the suggested direction. The tabby she-cat turned her attention toward Mousestep with a playful gleam in her eyes. The tom brushed against her as they walked and chatted together. Mousestep brought up his kits which quickly soured Petalrain's mood. It wasn't that she didn't like them, she just didn't want to be a parent anytime soon.
Pulling away from him slightly, Petalrain changed the subject with practiced ease. Knowing full well her charm was enough to keep Mousestep talking about things she liked.
Slowing to a stop, Petalrain took the time to mark the scent border before feeling the gentle brush of Mouststep's nose to her cheek. "Share my nest with me tonight," He purred and in which she giggled softly. "Maybe but first I need to finish this outing with Sootpaw to get her off my paws for the day," She told him before picking their way back to meet up with the group again.
With almost perfect timing, Petalrain and Mousestep arrived around the same time as Sootpaw and Boulderjaw. "Do you have any questions before we head back?" She asked flicking her tail as she waited for Sootpaw's reply.

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 8 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw's fur bristled with unease. Petalrain had paired her off with the gay tom - no offense intended toward Boulderjaw of course, she had nothing but respect for the mountainous tom - and gone off with Mousestep. Didn't she know he had kits? Would she really be so bold as to make a move on a cat who already has kits with another?
Sootpaw, suddenly tired of continually second-guessing her mentor, allowed her tail to droop, it scoring a furrow in the ground as her mentor and her... fancycat? were stood in front of them.
"Do you have any questions before we head back?"
"Yeah, I have a question. Do you not give a rat's tail about how your actions affect others? Do you really not care about me? Do you see me as that much of an annoyance? It seems to me like you're only doing this because Hawkstar has told you to. Well, that's not fair on me. If you want to spend all of your days schlepping with other toms - including those with kits - then talk to Hawkstar and get him to reassign me. He'll do it if you ask him to. I've already asked him.
All the frustration, all the worry, all of it... all of it was being unloaded on the pretty she-cat in front of her. She did feel bad, but it needed to happen... She needed to try, once and for all, to make Petalrain see that she wasn't a toy. She couldn't be picked up and put down at will. She had feelings and a heart and wants and needs, same as every cat. In that moment, Sootpaw experienced a level of catharsis as all her woes of late poured out of her.
Boulderjaw and Mousestep looked on, wide-eyed as the apprentice unloaded on her mentor. Boulderjaw surveyed his brother, a sense of scorn in his eyes as he appraised the other warrior, but he stayed silent... he knew that Sootpaw needed to talk her piece before calm could come once again.

PETALRAIN Petalrain expected there to be a few questions about RainClan or maybe about how border patrol worked she did not expect Sootpaw reply. At the start of ther apprentice's rant, Petalrain's eyes went wide before narrowing slightly. It was one thing for Sootpaw to talk to her but not in front of other warriors, especially one she was interested in. Allowing for Sootpaw to rant and rave Petalrain remained quiet until the she-cat was finished. Before she let annoyance and anger flash in her pretty green eyes. "What I do with my time is up to me and none of your concern Sootpaw. You know nothing of what its like to be handed a cat barely a year old that has to follow you around like a gloomy cloud." Petalrain replied, her voice curt and cold. "I didn't want an apprentice! It's almost as bad as having kits! I'm young and I want to have fun not be worried about some cat barely out of the nursey. You still smell like softness and milk!" Petalrain added with a slight hiss to her words. Her annoyance coming out in full force. "I'm done with this conversation. I'm heading back with or without you," She told Sootpaw before stepping away and heading toward camp, her head tilting back to look at Mousestep, expecting him to follow. The tom looked at his brother and Sootpaw before following after Petalrain. He had no desire to anger the pretty she-cat any further. Boulderjaw however stayed near the apprentice. "I'm sorry, lets walk together, I'll show you the long way back that way you get a better idea of how big StoneClan is."tags: @calico word count: ### notes: blah
