Thornscar 15 Moons, NightClan Warrior, She-Cat "Oh brother~" Thornscar sung towards the medicine cat's den, taking advantage of the dusk falling across camp to stalk. The camp itself was quiet, most warriors out hunting or waking to begin their duties. Her fur didn't blend perfectly into the stones, but her dappled coat still gave her the appearance of a soft pile of leaves. Creeping slowly, she stalked to the den, a sly smile forming. News spread across camp like a fire, roaring into all nooks Nightclan had. Her brother, her sweet brother, had recieved his full medicine cat's name at their meeting. Her heart at learning the news soared higher than any bird she caught. And what a name it was, she thought with joy. Shadowchaser, he is a chaser like us, defending his clan through healing rather than claws. Pride filled her chest again, making her whiskers twitch and her fur feel warm. She wanted to be the first of her sisters to congratulate him on his new name.

curiosity is not a sin... ...but we should exercise caution with our curiosity Shadowchaser With leafbare approaching, this was a time of high activity for the medicine cats of NightClan. Shadowchaser didn't enjoy having damp, cold paws as he scouted hither and yon for important herbs, but it would do no good to complain.
Chestnut ears twitched, catching the faint call of one of his sisters - Thornscar - the voice not at all unpleasant. She didn't sound hurt or annoyed, so he finished what he was doing first, carefully laying out the wet celandine leaves to allow for faster drying.
"Here I am," Shadowchaser mewed at last, about to blink affectionately at his kin -- if he could find her.
"Thornsca--" Shadowchaser leaped sideways, his shocked mew turning to laughter as the tortoiseshell nearly had him. It was only his slender frame that saved him, and the fact that she wasn't really trying to pin him to the earth like a frightened frog. "I do not envy your prey, Thornscar. They've no hope at all with you prowling about." Shadowchaser's luminous golden eyes settled on his sister's face, having long since memorized the pattern of orange and black unique to each of his littermates.
He smiled, and gently headbutted her shoulder. "Have you been well?" medicine cat of nightclan williams | jk rowling | background image | table by phoenix Notes: Powerplayed her leaping at him, sorry about that! Thornscar 15 Moons, NightClan Warrior, She-Cat Her brother still has his intution, leaping deftly out of the way of her leap. Thornscar hadn't planned on fully tackling him of course. Her claws were sheathed, and she had purposefully unbalanced her leap to avoid actually hitting him. A pleased sound still bubbled up at his quick reaction though.
"I do not envy your prey, Thornscar. They've no hope at all with you prowling about." She laughed at his praise, a sound that also revealed how proud she felt. She was a good hunter for sure. "Have you been well?" Thornscar gently headbutted her brother with a purr. "Great!" She said, her purr revving up as her chest expanded with pride. "Even better now that my brother has his full name! How does it feel?" Her eyes glowed as brightly as their mother's had when she learned the news. It must feel amazing, she thought. Getting her own warrior name had been thrilling. The energy had lasted through her whole vigil like a fire in her chest. She only hoped Shadowchaser felt the same way. She was prepared to listen to however he felt, sitting herself down and neatly wrapping her tail over her paws.

curiosity is not a sin... ...but we should exercise caution with our curiosity Shadowchaser Shadowchaser knew he was fortunate to have such a strong relationship with his sisters. The kinship between them was not just felt, but seen, especially in the unfiltered pride in Thornscar's voice when she spoke of his new name. Allowing himself the rare chance to express his own satisfaction over this new development, Shadowchaser purred. "I feel - anxious, and deeply honored. I didn't expect to become a full fledged medicine cat after only a few seasons."
All that new responsibility... Shadowchaser's tail tip danced at his paws as he mimicked her seated position. "Certainty will come with age, I hope. Sometimes I wonder if what I know is enough to take care of the Clan. I'm fortunate to have Smokefur in charge, but only StarClan knows when I'll be tested on my own."
Anything could happen.
Another epidemic. Something else. More injuries like Pinestar's. The future promised nothing, but Shadowchaser felt his spirit rally to greet it. The potential for failure was frightening; for Shadowchaser's path in life, failure could mean death for those entrusted in his care. But Shadowchaser couldn't let that fear paralyze him. Smokefur believed in him. His family believed in him.
"I have more herbs to collect this evening," Shadowchaser mewed, standing. "I could use the company." Maybe they could bring Darkstorm and Cobrastrike along? He could think of no better way to spend the night than in the presence of some of his favorite Clanmates. medicine cat of nightclan williams | jk rowling | background image | table by phoenix Feel free to hop in if you want to, BlooRey DVD @zen !

Thornscar 15 Moons, NightClan Warrior, She-Cat "I feel - anxious, and deeply honored. I didn't expect to become a full fledged medicine cat after only a few seasons." Thornscar could feel his worries sit in the air. It was a big responsibility she thought, caring for your whole clan. It was not a position to take lightly. Yet, she knew her brother would succeed in this position. "Certainty will come with age, I hope. Sometimes I wonder if what I know is enough to take care of the Clan. I'm fortunate to have Smokefur in charge, but only StarClan knows when I'll be tested on my own."
"I can see your training has served you well," She commented, leaning forward to nuzzle his face. "I know you will be ready for the challenges that come your way. You were chosen for this position, my brother, and will succeed." Her confidence in him probably didn't ease his worries, but Thornscar wasn't worried. Like Shadowchaser said, certainty will come with age, and until then, he had the support of his sisters to fall back on.
Thornscar leapt to her paws when Shadowchaser stood, her tail waving at his suggestion. "I would love to accompany you! I wonder if our sisters are free to join us as well." She bounded out of the den, eyes searching for the familiar tortishell coats. "Darkstorm, Cobrastrike!" She called, glancing back to make sure Shadowchaser had caught up.

I will wander 'til the end of time, A familiar voice brought a soft rumble from within the warrior's den. Although a tortoiseshell pelt did appear in the entrance, it was not Darkstorm's like Thornscar had been searching for. Instead, tired and gentle green eyes blinked at the young warrioress and her brother. Well into her seventieth moon, the small senior warrior's age and recent life events were beginning to show in her gaze and her movements. "N-Not in here, my darling." She rasped, her voice so seldom used in recent days. Her deceased mate had been one of the few Clan members to seek out conversation with her. Now, only her children ever seemed to hear her.
With a soft clearing of her throat to banish the rasp for the moment, Echobreeze stepped forward to touch her nose to her daughter's. A gentle sweep of her tail beckoned Shadowchaser closer, so she might do the same to him. Her heart swelled as her mind repeated that name: Shadowchaser. Her beautiful son... The last of her kits to earn his name. Pressing her nose to his fur, she felt her heart twinge as she sent a silent message to StarClan above. Our kits are g-grown, Hollowcry... Grown, and strong, and b-beautiful...
Her green eyes glittered with unshed tears as she stepped away, smiling warmly at Shadowchaser. "You l-look well, Shadowchaser." She mewed gently, before something caught her eye in the distance. A ruddy-brown coat appeared through the entrance to NightClan's camp, followed by a tortoiseshell pelt with far more black than hers. Echobreeze's head tilted slightly, the ginger half of her face inclining toward the ground. A soft sound escaped her before she looked back to Thornscar. "You are i-in luck, it looks as though your s-sisters have just returned from a b-border patrol." Waving her tail to invite her other two daughters closer, the small calico felt a characteristic warmth in her chest. Half alive without you

Fierce yellow eyes briefly glanced over her shoulder toward Darkstorm, a red-brown ear tilting in vague curiosity as their mother beckoned them closer. Wordlessly, the young warrior pushed herself forward, a confidence that could not be taught reflected in each step. Stalking forth as though she owned the valley and more, Cobrastrike paused only to tap her tail against Shadowchaser's flank before she closed the remaining distance between herself and Echobreeze. Pressing her nose to her mother's offered one, Cobrastrike eyed Thornscar briefly.
"Did I miss the family meeting announcement?" She inquired, her tone self-assured with every spoken word. Echobreeze laughed quietly, maneuvering to touch noses with Darkstorm, the last of her children. "N-No, no, nothing of the s-sort... Thornscar was s-simply searching for you. L-Luck would have it, I s-stumbled on an opportunity to a-admire my perfect k-kits." She purred, content now that she'd seen them all. Cobrastrike watched as their tortoiseshell mother hesitated briefly to sweep each of them with an adoring gaze, before stepping back. "I-I'll leave you f-four to it, then." She mewed, her tail waving gently in farewell as she began a sleep-stiff pad toward the fresh-kill pile.
Cobrastrike's sharp gaze trailed their small-framed mother for another few heartbeats before she flicked an ear and met Thornscar's gaze. "What's up?" She half-drawled, tail tip curling over her back. "You or Shadowchaser need something?" The warrioress added, eyes darting to their brother. Although she expected Thornscar to be several shades angrier had someone dared cross Shadowchaser, Cobrastrike was prepared for anything. No one got to mess with her siblings. No one.

If it feels good, tastes good, It must be mine...
Padding back into camp at Cobrastrike's side, the two of them split off from the other to cats in their patrol when they saw their mother's waving tail beckoning them over. Thornscar and Shadowchaser were already there, so Darkstorm trotted the rest of the way to close the distance quicker, eager to reach them in case something was wrong. Several heartbreaking thoughts occurred to her in quick succession, but she forced them away for now, until she knew for sure just what this little family gathering was about.
She let a soft purr rumble in her chest as she greeted Echobreeze, pressing her nose to the older she-cat's cheek briefly. For a few heartbeats, her normally burning orange eyes softened, warm with love for her mother. Then she stepped back and swept her gaze over her siblings as Cobrastrike asked them if she had missed the family meeting announcement. Her ears flicked as Echobreeze padded away, leaving her children to their own devices. She should go hunting with her, spend more time with her mother.
Thoughts about Echobreeze were interrupted by Cobrastrike's questions, however. With how relaxed every cat was, Darkstorm didn't think anything was wrong after all, but she was still curious. Echobreeze had said she would 'leave them to it'. Leave them to what? “So what are we doing?” Darkstorm was always up for spending time with her siblings. Actually, it seemed like it had been a while since she had spent much time with her brother. She and Thornscar and Cobrastrike were always together in some form or another, but Shadowchaser's path was far different from theirs.
Speaking of which. “Oh yeah,” Darkstorm suddenly remembered and stepped closer to the tom, butting her head against his shoulder affectionately, “Congratulations on your new name, Shadowchaser.” She stepped back to study him for a moment, perhaps only slightly less proud of him than their mother was, and it showed clearly on her features. Her fierce orange gaze glinted with both amusement and ambition, “Just wait until I'm Darkstar, with my brother the medicine cat. We'll make Hollowcry the proudest cat in all of StarClan.” Her tail flicked first one way and then the other, tapping her sisters as she grinned at them both, “You two will have to fight it out to decide who gets to be my deputy.”

curiosity is not a sin... ...but we should exercise caution with our curiosity Shadowchaser Shadowchaser's paws felt light as hummingbird's wings, as he glowed beneath the collective praise from his family. It was good to feel validated; they would never know what it was like to grow up in the shadow of NightClan's three fiercest she-cats, and though he had never resented them their talents, every now and again he would feel like the 'odd cat out'. They had achieved their warrior names a full season before he'd gotten his medicine cat name, which was fine; that was the way this worked. But Shadowchaser's confidence was not infallible. It always felt good to know his sisters and mother thought highly of him.
Even after the epidemic. Disappointing his family was not an option.
Shadowchaser purred, a low, pleasant hum that gradually faded as he put his thoughts in order. "We're going herb-collecting." Black whiskers quivered, maw pulled in a suggestion of an amused smile. "Not the most exciting, I know. I appreciate the help, though." Shadowchaser dipped his head to Darkstorm, torn between hiding and showing how much everyone's congratulations meant to him. "Thank you."
'Just wait until I'm Darkstar.' The tom's tail-tip abruptly stopped moving, and he covered up his initial pang of alarm with a soft laugh. "That would be a new age for NightClan, to be sure!" StarClan, that's putting it nicely... A Darkstar-led NightClan, with Cobrastrike and Thornscar as co-deputies... Shadowchaser shook out his pelt, trying to shed the feeling that he might drown. Stars above, he wasn't prepared for that. Is anyone? Echobreeze, maybe, but... For the good of the valley, Darkstar probably wouldn't happen.
"I want to find borage leaves before the cold weather kills it, and chickweed for leafbare." Shadowchaser's tail pointed in the direction of the wooded marsh. "They can both be found near RainClan. If you're ready," he mewed warmly to his littermates. "We can leave." medicine cat of nightclan williams BlooRey DVD @zen | jk rowling | background image | table by phoenix

Thornscar 15 Moons, NightClan Warrior, She-Cat
Thornscar supressed a laugh at her sister's suggestion that she'd be leading while Cobrastrike and herself would have to fight for deputy. This tortishell warrior knew they'd rule jointly for keeping their family together while making Nightclan stronger than it had ever been. Three stars in one clan, who knew if the other clans could even handle them. It would be an incredible sight, and for a brief moment, Thornscar imagined the trio leading a proud charge towards Starclan's Claws. Fur blending into one beautiful sight, their clan strong behind them. Even Starclan had to understand they were a unit.
Thornscar did not voice her opinions aloud, feeling the excitement roll from Darkstorm as she imagined her own version of their future. It was glorious, no matter the version it was. "Herb-collecting is important." She said, giving her brother a nudge. "It means Nightclan will stay strong for leaf-bare, and that we get to spend time with our best brother." With a good-bye nuzzle to their mother, Thornscar walked in sync with her siblings out of camp, letting Shadowchaser take the lead towards whatever herbs he requested. She would help him collect the whole forest.
