Frozenrain73 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanThe night before she had gone to see Dawnblossom, the pale warrior-queen had ventured on her own to StarClan's Claws. Hawkstar had slept peacefully by her side, and Frozenrain had tiptoed from their shared nest, discarding the easy comfort of his presence for a little... soul searching under the pointed stones. She had known for a while that something in herself had changed.
Her energy levels... Her mood... Her appetite.
As Frozenrain entered the sacred gathering site, the matron's heart was alive and pulsing with too many powerful emotions to name. If she was pregnant again - StarClan, what if she lost another litter? Could her heart bear it? Could she look her mate in the eyes and tell him, if she had failed a second time? Frozenrain's entire being ached at the thought. She was not a lovely young queen in the prime of her life, and even when she had been, Breezekit, Frostkit and Dawnkit had departed from the world before they'd ever gotten to experience it.
The blue eyes she was most known for gazed wetly at the protrusion of rocks reaching toward the stars.
In a way she had never thought possible, Frozenrain had gotten some desperately needed closure, over her first litter. Though it cut her deeply to know that Hawkstar had fallen in battle against LightningClan (had they not done enough? StoneClan would always be tested by storms, it seemed), the news he had brought back from StarClan had shaken her heart to pieces.
She had pressed her muzzle into his neck fur, and gently cried. Cried with pain. Cried with grief. Cried with a thousand thank-you's that their kits had made it to StarClan after all. And then, slowly, she knit herself back together. Both of them had needed time to recover; Hawkstar's wounds had been on his body, and hers had been on her spirit.
Now that they had both mended...
This fresh shock to Frozenrain's heart left her spinning, thrashing through the water and trying not to panic. Wanting to feel close to her lost loved ones, but unable to make the long journey to the Moon Tree (especially without a medicine cat to guide her), Frozenrain had gone to the only other place that made sense. The she-cat curled up beneath one of the pillars of stone, its shadow thrown over her like a blanket of ferns.
When she awoke, it was to familiar scents. Some she hadn't smelled in so many seasons. It was as if her mother had come down to earth to gently groom the fur between her ears like she'd done when Frozenrain had been a kit. And then there were three fresh scents - unknown yet familiar. My kits. My precious kits. Frozenrain's heart trembled, but when she raised her head to meet the dawn, it was with a smile on her muzzle.
Though her paws felt flattened grass beneath, she was already back in StoneClan - greeting Hawkstar, letting Vipertail and Herondive know how much she cherished them, visiting Dawnblossom to hear the news she already knew in her heart to be true.
Herondive...
It was almost as if she could smell her daughter here.
Frozenrain's smile slipped, her whiskers twitching with curiosity. She could smell her daughter here. Tracking the smell to its source, Frozenrain's blue eyes widened as they glimpsed a nest of moss and feathers tucked under the tall spire she'd fallen asleep against. It had been easy to miss in the dark. Frozenrain drew closer, letting the scents wash in. One was unmistakeably her daughter's.
The other... was Falconstorm's.
When she returned to StoneClan it was with news concerning their kits. Both the ones they had seen grown into warriors - and the ones that had yet to be born.
"Hawkstar," she mewed softly, finding him entering camp with the last of a patrol. "You and I are about to have two very interesting conversations." Frozenrain held a smile, not wanting to give away the purpose of their talk in front of the others. This was a private, family affair first. "Walk with me?"

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains He'd been distracted most of the morning. Since waking up to an empty nest, the sand-brown StoneClan leader couldn't shake the feeling something was not quite normal. Despite the desperate urge to search out his mate, Hawkstar had resigned himself to a patrol with a small group of Clan members. If Frozenrain had wandered away, it was because she needed a moment to herself. She would return to him when she was ready, and the StoneClan figurehead respected her choice. Doing his best to cast aside lingering worry, Hawkstar joined Hailstrike, Boulderjaw and Mothpaw on a border patrol.
Worry aside, his morning trickled on like a stream through the stones. Mothpaw's curiosity and complete faith in Boulderjaw was endearing and a little contagious. Many questions were asked, spanning a multitude of topics. Eventually, exhaustion won out and the game of twenty-thousand questions ceased. With a chuckle, the sand brown leader suggested they head back to camp, having walked the length of the LightningClan boarder successfully. The return journey rekindled his earlier worries as Hawkstar wondered whether Frozenrain would have returned. His tail weaved slowly behind him, the only indication of his bubbling anxieties. Barely aware of the way he held his breath, Hawkstar ducked through the camp's entrance
A familiar voice called his name, its softness immediately quelling his wandering mind. Exhaling in relief, the big tom turned his amber gaze upon his beautiful mate. Before he could return her greeting, however, she was speaking once more. Sand-colored ears perked in a mix of curiosity and alarm, the tilt in his head reflecting the sentiment. "Of course, anything for you." He rumbled gently, glancing over his shoulder to nod to the remainder of his patrol, dismissing the members. Pale amber eyes quickly returned to his mate, studying her features momentarily and picking out little anomalies that told him something else lurked beneath her smile.
Dismissing the soreness building in his scarred chest, the StoneClan leader fell into step with Frozenrain, his short coat brushing against her longer one. He let her silently lead him, content to remain in comfortable silence until they were certain of their solitude. Casting her a curious glance, the broad-shouldered tabby nudged his mate gently. "You've left me with a pawful of rather... Ominous words, you know?" He purred, his voice teasing but undoubtedly worried as he continued to observe her. Despite his worry, the affection in his gaze was unmistakable.
If there was one thing in this world of which he was absolutely certain, it was their love. With Frozenrain at his side, he believed he had the strength to scale whatever obstacle might be thrown their way. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain73 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanFrozenrain's mein gentled, and her tail curled fondly around his as it had always done. "I do not mean to worry you. However... An interesting development has occurred concerning our daughter, Herondive." Even as she spoke calmly, Frozenrain was coaching herself on how to approach the situation.
Was it cruel of her to feel betrayed? Disappointed? To believe that her precious daughter had gone against StoneClan in one of the most tragic of ways? Yes, it is cruel. If it is love, and it must be to make her behave so distantly, then she cannot be blamed. I will need time to move past these feelings, though.
With a soft exhale that carried the weight of all her unspoken words and fears and questions, Frozenrain explained what she had found. "I went to StarClan's Claws last night, to feel close to our little ones." Frostkit, Breezekit, Dawnkit. "When I awoke, I discovered a nest near one of the pillars. It had Herondive's scent, and Falconstorm's." The blue color of her eyes seemed to deepen with seriousness.
"I do not know how long this has been going on, and I have not confronted her about this yet." Frozenrain's plush gray-and-cream head was shaken slowly. She did not know what the future held. It was unthinkable that they might somehow lose their daughter to a TreeClan tom, but it had been unthinkable that Herondive enter a Cross-Clan relationship in the first place.
"I think it's too much to hope that this is a phase," Frozenrain mewed, hints of sadness evident. "Of all cats... A medicine cat..."
It was a love story that would only end in tragedy. Frozenrain's first priority was her family; for all the passion and loyalty she felt for StoneClan, Frozenrain wished to protect her daughter's feelings if at all possible. They would keep this secret a secret, and, as her parents, decide how best to bring it to a conclusion with the least damage possible.
If she could shield Herondive from a lifetime of longing for a cat she could not have, Frozenrain would. Regardless of the choices their daughter made - for good or for bad - Frozenrain could never turn her back on her own kits.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Despite the softening of her features, Frozenrain's demeanor did nothing to quell the apprehension dancing in his chest. Wrapping his tail with hers as she initiated the contact, Hawkstar studied her curiously another moment. That is, until she revealed the subject of interest to be their daughter, Herondive. His large pawsteps faltered momentarily, though he was quick to collect himself and continue at Frozenrain's side. "Herondive..?" He echoed, the disbelief evident in the rumble of his voice. And yet, he knew Frozenrain was not the type to say something unless she was absolutely certain of her findings.
If Frozenrain believed an interesting development had occurred concerning Herondive, it was likely that one had. When she shared with him her findings, his pawsteps did cease. A nest? With the scents of Herondive and Falconstorm? Hawkstar's heart clenched in his chest, and the big tom's pale amber eyes focused on his paws for several agonizing heartbeats. His features were void of anything but shock and something akin to betrayal, something he and his mate seemed to share concerning this matter. Signs of life returned to him slowly, beginning with the lowering of his broad-shouldered frame into a heavy sit.
Although the frequency of these moments seemed to be increasing with every passing moon, he couldn't help but feel old in that instant. The weight of his disbelief brought with it a wave of exhaustion, stealing away his breath and any fragments of energy he might have had left. His ears tilted back, and his gaze slipped closed before he shook his muzzle softly. "Our daughter... I don't doubt your assessment, yet... Of all cats, Herondive?" His voice was solemn, heavy with something resembling grief. They hadn't lost their daughter, and yet... The deception brought with it feelings just as strong.
It was not that he ceased loving her. Nothing in the valley or the stars would ever sever the connection he felt with his family. Family was more than bloodline, it was more than Clan boundaries. "This sounds like a story that should feature Vipertail, not Herondive." He conceded, opening his amber eyes to reveal a serious glint in them. "I fear you're right about it being more than a phase... If they have built a nest, then it is a place they've visited more than a pawful of times..." His jaw worked thoughtfully, the big tom weighing their options.
This pattern of behaviour, it had to be stopped. The longer it occurred, the higher the chance of it becoming public knowledge. StarClan's Claws was not a spot visited often by Clan cats, but all it would take was one. Frozenrain had proved just that. "The nest, beneath the spire... It needs to be disposed of. If you identified their scents.... We can't risk someone else stumbling upon it." He rumbled gravely, lifting his head to meet her gaze. "We will need to speak with her." He added, searching her features as though they might hold another answer.
He didn't think Herondive would leave StoneClan. And Falconstorm didn't seem the type to abandon his post in TreeClan. This... This story, this concocted fantasy romance... He recognized it was doomed to fail, one way or another. Hawkstar only hoped he and Frozenrain could bring it to an end before it reached a much more climatic and much more damaging end. As a Clan leader, he was forced to worry at the reputation that would follow its discovery. But as a father, the much larger part of him... He worried about what the reputation would do to Herondive, what a messy and abrupt end to this relationship would do to her.
He would do everything in his power to shield her from as much of the tragedy as he could, even if she resented him for it. He would protect her. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain73 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClan"Yes." The nest would have to be destroyed. Frozenrain was prepared to return to StarClan's Claws to do the deed herself, however... They needed to speak to Herondive as soon as possible. Together, as her parents. This was a family matter first, a Clan matter second. "I believe it would be wise..." Frozenrain's baby-blue eyes left Hawkstar's, gazing back in the direction of the rocky encampment just beyond.
"...to bring in an additional set of paws. We can trust Eagletalon. He loves Herondive as much as we do. That way, we can speak to her together." On this matter, Frozenrain was confident she spoke the truth. The older warrior had been a constant presence in their kits' lives, and even before that, a close friend to them both. A brother to Hawkstar. Frozenrain pressed her muzzle to her mate's cheek, sensing her own turmoil and disappointment and fierce protectiveness reflected back in him. "We are strong. Herondive is strong. She'll get through this." With our help.
Herondive may hate them for their involvement, but in time, and with the impending wounds to her heart healed, she may see what they had to. If she ever had kits of her own - StoneClan kits - Herondive would understand. Motherhood, parenthood was a new journey altogether. Different from what they had come to expect in their everyday warrior lives. Sometimes being a parent meant 'being the villain' for the sake of protecting a loved one.
With a soft sniff, Frozenrain's posture straightened, seeming to relax at the same time as she returned to her 'old self'. "Fortunately, you'll have good news to share with Eagletalon on top of all this." A fluttering breath, a noisy heart, and with all the dignity and delight of an aged queen, Frozenrain announced proudly. "I am expecting kits. Dawnblossom confirmed it this morning." It wasn't a stretch to picture Hawkstar's already pale stripes turning gray at the news, but her eyes sparkled with love and excitement nevertheless. In a whisper, meant as much for her as for him, Frozenrain's voice added to the crisp greenleaf air. "By StarClan, I will carry them. I will make sure they get to live, this time around. Truly live." It terrified her, the thought of losing them, but Frozenrain was going to meet that future with her head held up and all her focus on looking after the tiny lives inside of her.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The big tom's mind still revolved around Frozenrain's suggestion of reinforcements. Hawkstar trusted Eagletalon with his remaining lives, and from the moment his mate brought up bringing him to help, Hawkstar agreed. What he was mulling over was the manner in which to broach the subject. Briefly, he wondered if his brother would feel as... Hurt as he and Frozenrain. Given his thoguhts, StoneClan's figurehead was not exactly prepared for the string of words that flowed from his mate's maw afterward. His attention had been mid-shift, drawn by the mention of bearing good news for Eagletalon, when Frozenrain dropped a metaphorical bomb at his paws.
Mid-inhale, the mountainous tom jerked in surprise. The sudden motion constricted the flow of air in his throat, resulting in a strangled hiccup. A bout of coughing quickly followed, the large tom's shoulder protruding as his head dropped toward the ground in an attempt to stave off the coughing. It took another pawful of heartbeats before Hawkstar could breathe again, his pale amber eyes stretched wide as the moon and tinged with tears from the episode. For a moment, he was silent, gaping at the she-cat whom he loved so.
In that instant, he felt like a young warrior again; a young warrior given the news of a very first litter. Slowly, the shock melted, and although his heart continued to hammer against his rib cage, a brilliantly genuine smile cracked his maw. Stepping closer so he could lay his head over her shoulders and pull her against him, Hawkstar breathed in her scent and struggled to further steady his own breathing. When he spoke, his voice was raw with both emotion and the recent coughing fit. But it was full of love too.
"Stars above, I'm certain you're trying to turn my fur gray." He whispered against her fur. Nuzzling her shoulder as his mind drifted back to the news of new kits, his sandy tail waved excitedly behind him. Tightening his hold on her and dissolving into a deep purr, the big tom sighed contently. "Yet, here I am, loving you more and more with every passing moment..." Wishing that this moment could last forever, Hawkstar slowly released her and stepped away, rubbing his cheek to hers as he withdrew. Warring emotions shone in his pale gaze when he met her blue ones, and his heart remained intent on crashing through the confines of his chest.
Taking one last moment to observe his mate, the large tom straightened his shoulders. "I will find Eagletalon, explain the situation. You find Herondive, bring her back here. I will meet you back here as soon as I can. And Frozenrain?" He paused a moment, waiting on a flicker of recognition in her features, before continuing. "I love you. To the stars and beyond." His eyes softened briefly, before he set off to find his brother in all but blood. If he recalled correctly, Eagletalon was on patrol this morning. Picking up his pace, the tom began tracing the typical patrol root backwards, intending to intersect them.
"Eagletalon." He waved his tail in a beckoning motion, his pale gaze shifting to the other patrol members. Smiling as warmly as he could given the current thoughts tumbling through his mind, the StoneClan figurehead added. "My apologies, but I'm going to be borrowing Eagletalon for the remainder of the patrol." Waving farewell to his Clanmates, the big tom led Eagletalon away from the ears of others. Eventually, he slowed to a stop and faced his brother. With a heavy sigh, he met the other tom's amber eyes.
"Eagletalon, you know that I would never doubt your loyalty. To StoneClan, or to me. However, with an issue as close to my heart as this, I must ask... I have a task to ask of you, one of importance. But it is something I must ask you not to share. Not even with Duskflower. It's... It's for my daughter's sake. I can trust you to keep this between us?" Frozenrain & Eagletalon "I love you. To the stars and beyond."Hawkstar carried her heart with him as he searched for Eagletalon. Frozenrain watched her mate for a while, steeling herself for the trials awaiting them. How could she feel such love for her family and such tension at the same time? No one ever claimed being a mother was easy, that being a Clan-cat was easy, and this was a fine example of why. Her pale gray-cream fur fluffed up, plush coat a suitable defense against the chilly leaf-fall wind. It was time to find her daughter. The apprentices' den was not empty, when Frozenrain peered into the warm darkness. Meadowpaw, Kestrelpaw and the others were still sleeping peacefully; Herondive had yet to collect her apprentice for a training session. Rather than wait there, Frozenrain's paws carried her across StoneClan's encampment to an easily-recognized tabby-and-white she-cat sitting awfully close to Vipertail. "Good morning, Honeynose." Frozenrain mewed, amusement subdued but present in her gaze as she saw the young warrioress's fur fluff up with sheepishness. Honeynose scooted away from Vipertail, voice an embarrassed squeak. "G-Good morning, Frozenrain. It's getting cold, isn't it?""Indeed. Have either of you seen Herondive?"Honeynose pointed with her tail to the warrior's den. "Still sleeping, I think."Frozenrain thanked the young warrioress, and went to the warrior's den. Yes, her daughter was here. No doubt sleeping off the long nights spent at StarClan's Claws, meeting Falconstorm in secret. Frozenrain's tail twitched, but she suppressed her disappointment, gently nudging Herondive awake. "Wake up, sleepykit. Your father and I want to spend time with you."Even if the rest of the den appeared to be deeply asleep, Frozenrain kept her words light. Not foreboding. Even in a Clan as markedly benign as this one, some cats did not know how to keep their ears to themselves. ~*~ Eagletalon gave the mouse he'd caught to Valerianleap, and promised to cuff his ears if the younger warrior even thought about taking all the credit for it. This avuncular teasing was brief, and Eagletalon's attention was very very quickly arrested by Hawkstar's mood. The Clan's leader was smiling, but Eagletalon knew him well enough to know when there was a storm brewing under all that scarred skin and pale fur. Walking a good distance from the patrol, Eagletalon cocked his head at Hawkstar's insistance that what he had to share with him should not be shared with Duskflower. There was a moment's hesitation - his loyalties, for a rare second, split between his brother and his mate. However, that hesitation was over in the blink of an eye. He trusted Hawkstar. If Duskflower didn't need to know what had happened to Herondive, then he would respect Hawkstar's wishes. "StarClan themselves couldn't make me talk," Eagletalon pledged. "What do you need?"What's Herondive gotten herself into? Something this grave... The last time Hawkstar had been this serious, he'd been recovering from a nasty scar on his chest courtesy of LightningClan. 494 Words || BlooRey DVD williams (Vipertail mention!) || Notes: DRAMAAA

HERONDIVE A gentle, familiar voice pulled her from the depths of her sleep, a soft groan escaping the cream and white warrioress. Paws flexed as she stretched, claws extending momentarily only to bury themselves into the bedding around her. A blue eye cracked open, squinting against the incoming light to land upon a senior warrioress everyone in the Clan knew the name of. Blinking blearily, Herondive pulled herself into a more upright position, the muscles throughout her body complaining at the mere thought of the day ahead. Tired eyes flicked over the plush-furred she-cat before her, jaws threatening to split in a yawn.
“M…. Mom..?” She mumbled, just barely succeeding in subduing the gesture of exhaustion. A cream ear flicked curiously as she re-evaluated what Frozenrain had said. Hawkstar and Frozenrain wanted to spend time with her? Guess it makes sense… Maybe this is a family outing? She thought blearily, rising to a proper stand and giving her short pelt a quick shake to dispel any clinging pieces of bedding. Forced to stifle another yawn, Herondive bobbed her head in a show she would follow.
She only started worrying when Frozenrain led her straight passed Vipertail, and out the camp entrance. Glancing over her shoulder to where Vipertail’s black frame and Honeynose’s tabby frame slowly disappeared, Herondive’s tail curled uncertainly. With another glance toward Frozenrain, Herondive could see the corners of her jaws turning down in a frown. “Vipertail’s… Not coming with us?” She asked quietly, the warrioress ensuring her paw steps stayed in time with Frozenrain’s. What’s going on? She wondered, her ears tilting backward just so. A family outing didn’t make sense if Vipertail wasn’t with them. But why else would both her parents want to spend time with her at the same time? She never doubted they loved her, but…

But this… The fewer cats who know, the better the result will be for everyone.” He continued, his voice carrying a strange weight to it. His pale amber gaze focused on some unseen point before them as the StoneClan figurehead sorted through the words that needed to be said. The big tom figured introducing it as he and Frozenrain knew to be true would be the safest path.
“Frozenrain spent the night at StarClan’s Claws, so she might feel closer to our ancestors.” He began. A lingering memory of seeing their three kits, their three beautiful kits in StarClan filled him with a heavy adoration. They were gone much too soon, but... He couldn’t think of any three she-cats he would trust more with their care. “When she awoke, she found… A nest. We aren’t certain how long ago it was constructed, but… Long enough that the nest carried traces of its inhabitants. As I’m sure you’ve guessed one of those scents is Herondive’s.”
He paused, a heavy gaze turning on Eagletalon as he steadied himself. “Frozenrain identified the second as Falconstorm, TreeClan’s medicine cat.” Pale amber eyes closed for a moment, before fixing back on his brother. “We have yet to speak to Herondive, Frozenrain is fetching her now. I don’t want to assume anything, but I have my fears, as I’m certain you do. We need the nest destroyed, before anyone else finds it. Neither Frozenrain nor I could think of anyone who cares for her as much as we do, except for you. And so, we ask this of you.” He finished, falling quiet to let Eagletalon voice any concerns he may harbor.

Frozenrain & Eagletalon “Frozenrain identified the second as Falconstorm, TreeClan’s medicine cat.”The scarred tom's shock manifested in wide eyes and raised fur along his spine. Their Herondive? In a cross-clan romance with a medicine cat? If anyone other than Hawkstar had approached him with this information, he would have cuffed them around the ears for telling tall tales. The shock abated quickly, and he met his brother's gaze with grim determination. "Consider it done." Eagletalon briefly rested his tail against Hawkstar's shoulder - a mark of solidarity - before departing. Time was of the essence, and he wasn't going to fail in this mission he had been given. Eagletalon carried these heavy thoughts with him to StarClan's Claws, his senses made even sharper now that his Clan's and his niece's reputation were both dangling over the edge. With a strong forward momentum, Eagletalon reached StarClan's Claws in no time at all. The brief trek had done little to clear up the whirling mass of thoughts and feelings brought on by this, but he hadn't expected it to. Only a good clean fight - or some downtime with Duskflower - effectively cleared his head every time. Eagletalon's amber eyes rooted through the shadows of the jagged claws; he wasn't a very sentimental tom, but the irony of a CrossClan romance happening here of all places was not lost on him. Bold, weren't they? To lie here under Silverpelt as if they had StarClan's permission. Yet Eagletalon could not find it in his heart to be cross with them. He didn't know Falconstorm and didn't much care to - his loyalties were for StoneClan and his family only. Eagletalon quickly discovered the nest, and disposed of it, carrying the mass of bedding and feathers to the nearest water source. He pushed it into the river, knowing the scents would be washed off. The moss eventually would sink, along with Herondive's secret. This done, Eagletalon set his paws on the path back to camp. ~*~ “Vipertail’s… Not coming with us?”Frozenrain shook her head, walking on until the broad-shouldered form of her mate could be seen a few foxlengths in front. She met Hawkstar's gaze, and could tell from the faint scent of Eagletalon that he had already given him his task. Good. I trust him to be efficient. They were lucky this Clan had such a strong grasp of honor and commitment, even when continuously punished for it by the others. "Your father and I wish to speak with you, Herondive." Frozenrain's baby blue eyes were soft, but guarded. Holding back her desire to let Herondive off the hook with nothing more than a mother's smile and a promise that she wasn't angry. But this was serious. This needed to be dealt with, before it got out of hand. "I discovered your nest in StarClan's Claws. We know about Falconstorm," the tom's name was as unpleasant as stale river-water in her mouth, but Frozenrain batted these thoughts aside. "We aren't here to chastize you," she said a little more gently, touching her nose to her daughter's forehead before stepping back. "We are here to discuss what should happen next. For your sake, and for the Clan's."Frozenrain fell silent then, allowing Hawkstar the chance to speak. He always seemed closer to their daughter than she was, and though Frozenrain wished to change that, she understood that certain connections couldn't be replicated so easily. 565 Words || BlooRey DVD || Notes: Sorry for the late reply!
