Leaf-Fall Day 11, Valley Year 5. ------------------------------------
Fishing here after being escorted out once was probably a bad idea. But she'd come further downstream than where she'd encountered the RainClan tom and didn't think any of those cats came this far in search of prey. So she was preparing to go in herself, in need of a meal and something to eat later as well. Two good sized fish would set her for at least today and tomorrow. She didn't need much, she was a small cat. It wasn't like she had anyone else to fish for in her life, and one or two fish was hardly going to starve out RainClan.
She let her thoughts wander as she fished, wondering about how the valley was changing, if there would be allot of fighting between the clan-cats because of the fire that ravaged part of the valley. Mostly, she wondered how it would all effect she and her family. Her parents were trying to get her to move her nest further into the mountains, were the clans were unlikely to find it. But she liked her nest, in her old owl hollow above water. It was hidden and protected, and she had easy access to food and water. A perfect place. Plus, she'd lived out here this long without any problems, and it was an old argument with her parents. Of course, they wanted to know when she was going to settle down. Which was why she lived so far from them. They meant well, but there was only so often their teasing was amusing before she just got annoyed.

WHAT'S THIS? WHAT'S THIS?Swankit peeped to the left. Swankit peeped to the right. No mother in sight. Echoshade was gone and the other queen was in a deep slumber. It was the perfect opportunity to explore. Usually Lotuswhisker would grab her by the scruff and whisk her back to the den if she wandered too far, which was ridiculous - how was she meant to learn if her efforts were halted by the chains of kithood? Disgraceful.
There were no guards now however, nobody to stop her curious wanderings to be wandered. Unless Uncle Crowblaze was outside but she was certain that the tabby tom was doing 'warrior' things, whatever than entails. However, Swankit would not keep this opportunity to herself and she looked over to her siblings; Owlkit and Falconkit.
Rolling around on her side, Swankit rocked herself over to her sister and woke her up in the usual fashion - by biting the tip of her littermate's tail.
"Owlkit, mother's not here and I plan to explore. Will you join?" Swankit invited, her way of speaking sounding odd in the mouth of a kit. She swiftly sat up and hurriedly brushed the scraps of moss from her fur, glancing at the others slumbering in the nursery. Owlkit wasn't much of a dreamer but in her slumber she had climbed the tallest of trees to meet an old owl. The creature watched her with unblinking eyes but instead of being scared of the large bird, Owlkit was entranced. She opened her mouth to speak to the tall bird but something nipped at her tail and forced the she-kit's eyes to open in the real world. Turning sharply to hiss at the cat who bit her tail, Owlkit relaxed almost instantly. It was Swankit, thus she was forgiven.
Hearing her sister talk about their mother being gone, the she-kit perked her ears up and turned to look for the dark-coated she-cat. Once she was certain Lotuswhisker was indeed gone, Owlkit rose up to sit. Falconkit was still fast asleep and Owlkit was glad for it. While she did love her brother because he was kin, Owlkit felt a stronger connection with Swankit. The suggested plan of exploring did capture the young kit's interest. She wasn't the type to turn down a chance to learn about their home and the lives around them.
Giving her own plush pelt a few licks to rid it of moss, she nodded. "Lead the way sister," She meowed softly to avoid any eavesdroppers.

WHAT'S THIS? WHAT'S THIS?Swankit lead the way? The tabby kit tilted her head as she pondered the suggestion and nodded her head brusquely. As much as she enjoyed following Owlkit's direction, leading the charge herself would allow her to explore the things that caught her interest.
"Yes, let us go." Swankit announced, spinning on her heels and marching towards the nursery exit. She glanced at their brother Falconkit before twitching her ears and carefully creeping out of the nursery - being extra cautious to avoid being spotted by any of the warriors lurking about the camp. Swankit loved her brother, of course she did, but she preferred spending time with Owlkit more.
The mixed-coloured she-kit crept along the edge of the nursery, freezing like a statue whenever she felt like some cat had gotten too close, and eventually ended up near the wall of the camp - twitching her whiskers at her sister. Bigger cats had to use the camp entrance but, as kits, they were a lot smaller and could sneak out under the wall.
"Under here." She muttered before squeezing her head under, her hind legs squashing flat behind her and kicking -like a frog's. Swankit suddenly popped out the other side and rolled to a halt, sitting herself up in a hurry.
The tabby kit opened her mouth and let out a whispered victory scream - sounding like a snake without any fangs. "What should we do now? Try swimming?" Swankit asked Owlkit, uncertain of what they should try first now that they were finally out.

Owlkit was careful not to overstep Swankit as her sister took the lead. She gave a farewell glance to Falconkit. There was a moment she felt a little bad that they didn't invite him along, but it was gone in a flash. Falconkit would likely slow them down, two was a good number for quick missions. Mimicking her sister, Owlkit kept low to the ground, which was easy considering her size.
She pressed her self-close to Swankit and relied on her sister to lead the way. It was nice that they were able to move almost as a single cat. Stopping once when she thought that she smelled her father, Owlkit was glad it turned out to be a false alarm.
Flicking her ears toward the wall she hurried under it right after Swankit and barely avoided getting kicked by her sister. Not that she minded. It was a tight squeeze.
Finally, on the other side, Owlkit licked her fur a bit to settle it before taking stock of everything around her. The sound of camps still rumbled behind them but she knew that the further they went away from it the less of a distraction it would be. Hearing her sister's question drew Owlkit's full attention. Her eyes went wide at all the possibilities of the places they could go.
"Lets try swimming! Maybe we can find a frog. I really wanna know how they jump so high," She told her sister as she tried to figure out which way they needed to go.

WHAT'S THIS? WHAT'S THIS?Swankit looked at her sister as she groomed herself, turning back to scan the area outside of the camp. Honestly? It was a bit under-whelming. She had expected to see a plethora of new things but the riverbed looked exactly the same as it did inside the camp, she could just see farther.
"Lets try swimming! Maybe we can find a frog. I really wanna know how they jump so high,"
A frog? They live by the really wet places. Swankit shut her eyes and screwed up her nose, a face she pulled as she dug through all the whispers and words she had heard. She knew the marsh was wet and she remembered a warrior mentioning how they hated patrolling the Nightclan border because it was so wet and muddy. But where on earth was that? Swankit opened her eyes and let out the breath she had been holding, her tail twitching irritably.
If anything, they should follow the river. The tabby glanced at the river's flow, looking towards the direction was heading. Water headed down, she knew that by watching rain drops. Where the river was going would be where more water is, and most likely frogs for Owlkit. They should follow it.
An idea sprung into her head. Instead of walking alongside it, why don't they use the river to carry them?
"The river can carry us downstream, we can find frogs there!" Swankit stated, jumping into the river without a second thought. Panic quickly engulfed her as she realized what a bad idea that was.
Her legs kicked out automatically and she managed to get her head above the surface, spluttering and gulping air; Swankit knew that the river was stronger than she was and no matter how hard she kicked, the water wouldn't let her move towards the bank. Spinning with her front paws flailing, Swankit tried to blink back the water in her eyes as she called for her sister.
"Owlkit!"

Owlkit watched her sister eyes shut and instantly was curious why her sibling did such a thing. Was she trying to conjure up a image of it in her head? Owlkit closed her eyes sometimes to think, in fact she actually made a den full of her thoughts. It was tiny in all honesty but it was starting to grow, turning into a maze. Certain memories were tucked away inside and questions she had for her mother were stored near the entrance, easier to find that way. For a brief moment Owlkit wondered if her mother ever grew annoyed with her questions.
That thought didn't have long to live until Swankit suggested they use the river to head downstream. It was a logical idea. All the water moved down and gathered in what Owlkit assumed were marshlands. Like Swankit she kept her ears on a swivel when it came to warriors talking about things outside of camp. So like her sister, Owlkit was sure finding frogs would be easier in the swampy ground. But there was a nagging feeling in Owlkit's stomach. Something didn't seem right about jumping right into the water without being strong swimmers.
However, Owlkit didn't get a chance to think too much on it because Swankit went right into the river. Panic overtook the young kitten as she rushed toward her sister but stopped just as her paws touched the cold water. She wanted to jump after her sister but couldn't will her body to do it, fear had trapped her. Hearing her name being called by Swankit made her head hurt and chest ache. Her sister was drowning!
"HELP! HELP!" She began to yowl, crying out and trying to move forward but fear kept her rooted on the bank of the river.

Jade heard the commotion just before the tiny voice started yowling for help. She dropped her fish and darted over, snagging the kit on the bank first and moving her back from the edge. "Stay here!" She told the tiny kit before launching herself into the river. She saw the little ball of fluff being swept under and downstream and knew she had to move fast. It reminded her of the day she saw the fox kit drifting down stream as well. The she-cat took a deep breath and dove under just long enough to check for stones close enough to bash she or the kit then came back up, letting the current sweep her laong until she was close enough to the kit and could make a grab for the little kit's scruff. She couldn't tell her to stop fighting, because she had her by the scruff in her mouth. But she turned herself towards the shore and let the current push her towards the sides of the river at its own pace. The kit she held up above the surface of the water so she could breath and kept paddling along until she was finally able to get out of the water. Once they reached the shore she plonked the kit down and pressed a paw to her back, applying light pressure then releasing it before repeating the gesture to try and stimulate the little to cough up any water she'd swallowed. "Easy, you're safely back on land now." In a little while she'd bring this kit to the other one and see if she could figure out where they came from. @medusa Hellion

WHAT'S THIS? WHAT'S THIS?Swankit's paddled furiously against the water, her legs kicking out with rhythmic strokes. Her Rainclan instincts were screaming at her on how to move, when to breathe and how to keep her head above the water. Yet, there was only so much a kit could do - already her head kept ducking below the water as her legs faltered.
Everytime she bobbed above the water, she could hear her sister but she kept her eyes screwed shut against the water; focusing on paddling. Suddenly, teeth snagged her scruff and Swankit felt her weight being somewhat lifted. She almost tucked her legs up like she would usually do but the tabby kit ignored the urge; kicking against the water as much as she could.
The water dropped away from her but she still churned her little paws in the air, coughing and spluttering. She didn't know who had her but Swankit's nose was clogged with river water so it was anyone's guess.
Hard ground met her paws and Swankit crouched there, trembling somewhat from exhausting. She squeaked in indignation as a weight dropped onto her back, interrupted as a few mouthfuls of water flung themselves out from her jaws. A few more dribbles escaped her until she gave a loud sniffle and curled her tail around her; finally opening her eyes and blinking them hard against the droplets that got caught in them.
"Owlkit? You grew bigger." Swankit muttered, unwilling to move as her legs shuddered beneath her.

When the strange cat moved her away from the edge, Owlkit was freed from her frozen state and didn't listen to the other cat at all. Instead he followed after the strange cat that smelled nothing of RainClan. She wasn't about to let some werido hurt her sister because they were both too foolish to listen to their parents.
Owlkit watched from the edge as the loner picked up Swankit and used the current to travel down the river. Unwilling to stray too far from her sister, Owlkit trotted down to join them as she was placed on dry land. A sharp annoyed chirp escaped her as the strange cat pushed on her sister's back, but realizing it helped Swankit, Owlkit relaxed.
Once Owlkit deemed Swankit okay, she headed right for her sister and curled up beside her before hearing her sister mutter. "I didn't save you, that strange cat did," Owlkit replied curling around her sister to help warm her up. "We need to go home now," She added turning toward the strange loner. "Can you carry Swankit home? I'll lead the way," Owlkit asked before returning her attention toward her sister and picking up the task of grooming her.
